High school was not a very great time in life for me, but thanks to spending time with my peers, life flowed faster, there was always something turned around.... and now I work remotely, daily life looks the same and the priority is money and bills I feel like I have stood still in place

Real talk man. High school was not inherently a fun experience; I hated doing homework, I was bored out of my mind during the day until I got home, and I was an awkward kid with low self esteem. The only part about high school that was awesome was hanging out with my best friends, that I'm still friends with to this day. It's really more that I miss the overall experience of being a kid back then; no real responsibilities other than not fucking up too bad in school and staying out of trouble.

@AmaryxGamesYT 26 is a good age. I think it also has a lot to do with our addiction to technology. I grew up in a time before the Internet and smartphones, so I know what it's like to live day to day disconnected. I felt more alive, and life felt more real. Now, life sort of feels semi-virtual. I think because we're online nearly all the time now, it's impacted our ability to enjoy not only technology, but life in general (it's numbed us).

Highschool was for me the best example on wasting time on something pointless. My biggest sin in highschool was to put aside everything a young person should have experienced at that point, like friends, love and experiencing life, for the sake of being a straight A student that ultimately led to nothing of value. So I feel like I basically wasted my youth.

Bro I’m ngl I’m 28 and I’ve been falling back into my old habits I had in school. I call into work a lot just so I can play video games all day sometimes and I feel like a loser for that. But it feels so good when you don’t have to do anything, and right now, I have enough money to sit and play video games any day/night of the week I want to. But I know when I turn 30, everyone is going to be looking at me crazy if I’m still doing the same shit 😂

For the last year I basically got to go back to high school conditions again and I'm convinced most people actually miss lack of responsibility combined with a lot of autonomy/seeing friends everyday. You know how everyone jokes about the "Unemployed friend on a tuesday" going on the whackiest of adventures, that's you in high school. 99% of screw ups are forgiven because you're a kid, you have a lot of free time to try new hobbies but combine this with naivety and everything is fun, all while you get to hang out with people you actually like 5 times a week. Once you graduate though, suddenly a lot of responsibility is thrusted onto you which eats away at everything else. I came to this conclusion this year. I'm 24 now, but years 19-23 were spent building my life. I got a career job, got a girlfriend, got my own car, got engaged, and got a house. Then I lost my job/car at the same time and two months later lost my house/fiancee at the same time. It was basically a reset back to 18, but now I'm 23. I moved back in with my parents who combined with savings from my previous job, got put in a position again where I have basically unlimited autonomy to try new things. I got to use this time to start controlling my schedule by teaching my own swim lessons which paid more than my previous job, and combined with me not having any major debt/finance problems, I basically got to have next to no responsibility again. I got to use this money to try out lots of new things like learning a instrument, trying video editing, getting into mechanics and fixing a car(that dud broken car from the post office came in handy for this), trying programming, trying different workout routines. look into multiple trades/skills to find one I like(and try a few) all while still getting to go hunting 5 times a week in the fall if I wanted to. I also got to meet some very cool/very weird people with all the different hobbies I got into, and since I now know what to look out for in terms of screw ups, its a lot easier to avoid them. My family was worried about me because "I must be miserable with having everything fall apart so quickly" and yeah the first two months were miserable and spent doom scrolling/self pity but I've been having a blast since. I go into the service in March, but I feel like I've learned more in this last year than I did throughout the entirety of high school because I had the nativity/inexperience of a kid.
Also the thing on teachers putting up subway surfers to keep kids attention. For about a year, I worked at my ex fiancee's daycare with her and I can tell you on simply how they acted/said which kids were "ipad kids"(unfettered access to the internet.) My age bracket of kids was basically 4-9 year olds(with some 3 year olds from time to time) but the way some of them acted was insane. All of them are subject to more outbursts. We had 2nd-3rd graders reading/doing math at multiple grade levels below where they should be. We had a 9 year old who couldn't spell his name despite it being 5 letters long/spelled exactly how it sounds. We had kids that when given scratch paper and crayons/legos would stare at them blankly not knowing what to do because their creativity was killed by drip-feed content. We had all ipad kids erupt in unison when one of them said a gen alpha word like sigma, rizzler, etc while all the other kids just looked at them weird. The ipad kids never had a "why x" string either(referring to a kid just asking you a bunch of questions that keep piggybacking off each other.) We had kids describing the content of animes/shows that were rated 18+ to everyone and they couldn't grasp why we told them not to because they assumed everyone else in the room has also seen/was normal to see shows like the 7 deadly sins/future diary/deathnote animes, NCIS, family guy, south park, etc adult shows at a age before reaching double digits. I think the saddest thing though was basically all the Ipad kids had the same personality, they all talked and acted the same. After you see the kids everyday at work for a bit, you start to pick up on quirks they do/how they behave. But all the Ipad kids were basically the equivalent of a unnamed character from a faction in a fallout game. All of them say the same things, do the same routines, and behave exactly the same, its sad. Also the "cocomelon drug" meme is real, they were not in my room but I've never heard a group of kids 3 and younger shutup so quickly than when that intro came on. The 3/4 year olds that came in my room past 5 when it was closing time so we would put them in my room to watch tv while their parents came/the daycare got cleaned would absolutely lose their marbles if they just as much as saw the cocomelon icon on the tv when I turned it on.

Now everything revolves around work and money and its easy to miss those brief moments where you as an adult can have a moment from when youre younger where you just turn off the worry and enjoy the moment

By the way about bullies from school if they won't change their behavior in the instance of adulthood they might get arrested since most of the time bullies have limited to no morals.
How do I know this I heard about my bullies becoming very unhappy adults after school life. There was a dude who was best bros with one of my bullies, but he didn't personally bullied me this dude got his girlfriend pregnant & he instantly became a teen baby daddy.

8th grade and Senior year was my favorite years in school. Hated some classes and love some of the classes I took. Sometimes I would reminisce the good ole times with my highschool best friends of the stuff we've done. College was meh since I was basically a slave to homework but made some cool college friends.
After graduation it sucks to have debt with little money to spend, but you know I made use of what I earned and sacrificed things that were basically a want. There's things I regret (like naïve me going to an expensive college) and fond over the past, but in the end I can still make up with what I understood and develop new skills that I never thought highschool me would've experienced.

Responsibility isn't what is the bothersome part, its the fact the responsibility both as an adult and as a teen outweighs the payoff, aka the free time or other benefits after working.
You are overburdened by responsibility that rarely has a payoff in your favor for holding that discipline.

  • @lucasnooker
    @lucasnooker 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

It’s not just the responsibility. The mindset just changes. I’m nearly 30 and I’ve tried to avoid as much responsibility as possible lol. Lived at home to save on bills, avoided having kids because I felt it was a trap for my life, same with marriage, etc.
I still don’t enjoy things the way I used to. I love video games but now I see them differently, I can’t help but see them for what they are now - animations, code, sound and art just bundled together in different ways. You over analyze everything. Where as back then you just enjoyed… getting older sucks!

One of my friends from school keeps going on about how they "miss secondary school" and can't really fathom how much I hated it. It was shit, nothing actually prepared me for the real world, it had little relevance to what I want to do with my life, loads of people were just arse holes and it was overall crap. Seeing friends everyday was nice ig, being younger and not having to worry about adult stuff much wasn't too bad but that's just being a teenager, not school.

When i was in college i remember a married guy with kids telling me that college was the best time of his life ever and asked me if i feel like it's amazing. It wasn't amazing.
I could never relate to these people because i personally busted my a** of both in school and college. For me life never started until i turned 30, really. Because right now i can afford things. Right now i actually feel like i'm not a complete slave and i can finally pick, choose, do whatever i like.
20s sucked man, it's almost like it's an bad DLC for childhood.

As someone who deeply misses high school, I totally see your point. I think for a lot of people including myself it’s a mix of nostalgia and missing having no responsibilities. My high school experience was definitely a little different than the average, I went to a small private school. Every day was the boys and I just causing mayhem😂 and due to the size of my school there wasn’t really even cliques or anything. Everyone got along, there was the main ‘most popular’ group of boys and girls in each grade but everyone intermingled. I will say I do tend to overlook all of the really hard things I was going through at the time when looking back, it’s those rose colored glasses of nostalgia. But I do DEFINITELY miss the 2010s. The entertainment was definitively better-movies, video games, you name it

Yeah, I'm born in 1997 & I miss how it was so easy to afford your own car with just some random minimum wage fast food job during high school, but now I feel sorry as hell for this generation of North American youth who can't afford to drive no matter how hard they work & save money from scratch.
You are mind-blowingly right about your theory in that title by the way because I feel like I enjoyed playing video games & watching anime because I don't have to pay for bills beside owning a car as a high schooler. Also, my video gaming hobby was more enjoyable because games back then had an actual plot written by hard work & creativity. My Mom was paying for my video games & anime because she's so nice to me & love me as her son, so sorry I'm kinda of a momma's boy back then.
Yeah, I like hearing your philosophy about nostalgia about youth life in the early to mid 2010s.

Some classes I took really interested me,and I think I was more sold by the learning than the social aspect if I had to compare.

Yeah University is expensive as hell, but
    - I was free to pick what kind of classes I wanted/ found curious.
    - I was freer than ever to miss classes if something were to happen, as long as I take my own responsibility to reschedule or make up for them
    - the friends I met at University were by far some of the nicest people I have met in my life.

Im pretty introverted so i like being alone. It's a very interesting title. I basically agree with it. There were elements of 2007-2012 that I wish were preserved and not thrown away due to lack of reasonableness in both friendships and corporate handling of great series. Investing looks to be setting me up to retire early (it could have happened last year if I had bought a certain dip)... but lack of responsibility?
I want to say with all the poverty I'm aware of now compared to when I was in high school means I'd be taking on more responsibility. But in a sense that's a freedom of its own kind, isn't it? To actually be free and able to help and thus be free of all the feelings/thoughts that can come with being unable to do anything. Interesting times ahead.
Would love to say a lot more but it's a long comment as is. However, I've seen the humble pie you've mentioned in action, and when I least expected it. Like you, I definitely want to impress upon people younger than me that a lot of the people who wrong them will mature over the years, and more importantly that they themselves have a lot of opportunities to improve their lives that didn't exist during high school, like investing and learning how to be more confident, engaging people.

I find that people who have this attitude about hs didn't do much in high school. For me, a lot of things came to a screeching halt after graduation because i wasn't good enough to go to the next level. Mainly sports and performing arts. I went from drumline leader to absolute nobody. I went on and partied in college and grad school, but lost my local celebrity status in a sea of faces. Im ok being someone that peaked in hs because, for me, the next peak would have been becoming a famous actor or playing for Manchester United or something which was entirely out of reach.

Been 16 years since I graduated high school and I don't miss it. Socially High School was a bad time for me and a lot of people were shallow. I had a few friends but most of my friends I had in high school we either had a falling out or we don't really talk anymore. Lost a lot of friends over the Covid hysteria.
With that said I do miss video games from that era. Gaming was a lot better in the 2000's than these overpriced games as a service gacha fests soaked with progressive identity politics.

It’s not even that. High school felt a lot more flourishing when it came to social dynamics meanwhile most workplaces feel draining to your sense of self-worth, but regardless I don’t miss the homework. You used to be able to garner a sense of community online but with how politically polarized most social media outlets has become with a hyperfocus on furthering an agenda, it feels everyone acts mischievous for their own selfish gain which is exactly how you end up feeling about corporate execs. However, that’s not to say there weren’t teachers that were more down to earth in comparison as there definitely were - but most always, the managers feel akin to the office & most particularly the student counsel with district being close to principal. Sometimes you’ll find a co-worker you can resonate with though it feels more like doing group projects (if that, oftentimes) than actual hanging out.

Over the course of the last 3 going on four years I’ve realized that I didn’t miss high school I hated the school part what I did miss was the time I spent with my friends when we could go do to the local McDonald during lunch skipping class to go hiking in the mountains, going down to the local park to just hang out or going into town to play Pokemon go, messing around with each other or going to someone house or apartment to play BO2 or MW3 late on a Thursday or Friday night. What I missed was the free time i had with the boys now they’re all going to college in other states like Arizona and Texas some one went to Stanford the others joined the marines and have been in North Carolina years now the others joined the navy and has been in a submarine for 5 years now and the others are working full time jobs and most have girlfriends and some have kids so they don’t have much time to hangout anymore and some moved back to their home states like Colorado and New York or even home countries like Japan, India, Mexico and the Philippines and a few became NEETs that I’ve been trying to contact but seem to have basically gone off the grid and are always on discord and steam but never reply to anything. Once I realized that everyone was moving on with their lives and I stuck living in the past trying to act like I had all the time in the world like I did in high school and community college I realized maybe I should move on and remember the good time the free time I had and lack of responsibility because that’s not gonna comeback at least not unless I’m rich or something since I’ve come to that realization I’ve just decided to move away from my town and become a wild land firefighter and I’m going to undergo training soon within the next few months and try to move on with my life like my friends did before me.

Meh, I had a decent experience in high school. I graduated in 2015. So glad that is over with. Seems like people who miss high school peaked during that era lol. My life got exponentially better when I went through college. Ended up getting a bachelor’s and master’s degree in engineering. Now I can have fun and play games whenever I want! After work that is 😂

High school itself was meh, but spending every second I could spare playing Halo with the bros during that time was glorious. Honestly, most of my life has been pretty good until the last 4 years I've spent in corporate America which ironically felt a lot more like high school than high school 😅

Damn looking at the comments everyone seems to be in their 20s. But I am still in high school and it sucks for me. I don't get bullied or nothing but it's just boring asf. Almost everyone is trying to look better than everyone and shit like that. Like bro just be you. I am also a quieter dude in school probably because I care too much about what others think tbh. I just turned 18 so everything feels even more weird bcs I feel like I am expected to have stuff figured out, but I still fucking can't wait to get home from school and play games and watch videos. I do really good in terms of grades but I don't really see it as anything impressive bcs it's easy to me. Idk man, the thing is I don't think high school is the worst, instead I feel like it only goes downhill from here so I try to enjoy it as much as I can but It's not enjoyable. Everyday in school feels like a drag bcs I can't ever feel comfortable in it. Always feel like someone is listening waiting to make fun of me and stuff like that and I can't stand that for some reason. Well that was a little rant lol.

7:52 thats nice 🥲 oh5 minutes l8 damn. I talk about this story a lot but this kid who used to bully me in middle school he died as well and I'm not going to lie bro I was happy about it people get really surprised when I say that but I don't think people understand how bad bullying can be sometimes and how much your confidence can still be trash years later because of it. I remember him talking to some pretty girl and he said if anybody drove by and shot he would take her in the house... I was sitting right there... I don't even think he would look at me if people started shooting in that area
