Martin Luther did a pick and choose of the Catholic things he put in his new religion; he was the very first cafeteria Catholic. So his new "faith" was a shallow hulk of a religion with all of the good Catholic stuff removed. This has given every protestant, since then, an inferiority complex and explains why they hate Catholics.

You know what I noticed Catholics are obsessed with Protestants. When you watch Protestant shows 90% explain once why they are not catholic then don’t talk about it anymore. Every Catholic apologist show I see constantly brings it up. Christianity is the one true faith and making a big deal over the minor differences of different denominations is wasting time that we should be using on the great commission.

My husband passed away suddenly on Saturday morning February 17. Every morning we watched The Catholic Talk Show, or Fr. Jim Blount, or Fr.Chris Alar. We’d drink our coffee and pray The Angelus, The Unity Prayer, and St. Michael and Michael Of The Morning prayer.
I will miss him next to me at Mass, I will miss him next to me for the rest of my life.
Please pray for my family. We know it’s God’s Will, we know He chose to heal him in Heaven. We know God was merciful to John.
He loves Jesus Christ fervently, and Holy Mother, too.
But, we need prayers to navigate this loss. We need prayers to be able to survive.

I was raised in a wonderful baptist church with strong ties to Moody Bible Institute. I was taught that scripture is the infallible and ultimate authority. My parents put me in an all girls Catholic High School and I had questions about why Catholics had "added" books to the bible. Once I learned a bit about the history of Christianity and how my KJV came to be then it made me question other missing parts of my Christian heritage and this led me to the sacraments. I entered the RCC church in 2017. My "baptist" momma who had left the RCC Church decades before my birth returned soon after. Thanks be to God.

I went to the mall on Ash Wednesday to shop for a new computer when I was approached and asked about the ashes by three gentleman! I thought they were genuinely interested but soon realized they were a ministry team. They went looked for Catholics on the one day we are clearly marked! Little did they know I have an MA in theology (scripture concentration to boot) from a Catholic seminary. I am the faith formation director for my parish. They set a trap and I was happy to spring it! I hope it helped clear their misconceptions!

@daxypoo True. I try to talk to prots and show them they are wrong, but some times, they are so invested in their beliefs and they closed their heart to the truth, so even if you correct him in every single thing, he still wont change. Its best to see whether they are actuallt curious or have another agenda, and if its the latter, just ignore them. In my experience, in a lot of ways, some evagelicals exhibit similar characteristics to muslims and they are si brainwashed they cant see the truth. It is sad, but you cant convince everyone

I totally understand what Keith said. I grew up Baptist and was told Catholics worship Mary, etc. One of my former co-workers is Catholic and he just had such an air about him. After a couple of years I asked him “what do you have that keeps you so even keeled and positive.” He said his church and overtime explained his faith. He eventually became a deacon and he invited me to go to RCIA for a class. And at age 51, I converted to Catholicism, was baptized, confirmed, and received the Holy Eucharist. And the rest, as they say, is history.😊

Beautiful Mother Maria thank you to be with us. I love worship glorify you and your son Jesus our God almighty
You were right. Many or most catholic worship Mary. The above is a cut and paste of a comment here in YT. You have to take a propaganda class to be catholic...you just have to ask Jesus for salvation once, and in a instant you are saved. Big difference. RCIA classes never talk about the seedy underbelly of the graven image soaked CC and its truckloads of pedophile priests. I believe in freedom of religion. You are welcome to believe as you want.

The fact that you don’t know that and are trying to teach us Catholics is a little embarrassing. We don’t earn our salvation, it is a gift. Unlike many of your non-denominational brothers and sisters however, we do believe you can LOSE this gift. Great episode. I was a Presbyterian pastor in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church for a few years, but sensed serious incoherence in the Reformed faith as I studied deeper the principle of *sola scriptura*, read the Church Fathers, and learned about the Eucharist. My wife and I ended up coming into full communion with the Church back in 2011. Now I'm a permanent deacon and theology teacher at the local Catholic high school. Keep up the good work!

It's the "recommitted myself to Jesus AND Mary" that gives us Protestants pause. You say there is no worship there but it sounds like you are dedicating your life in part to her. There's no mention of God the Father of whom Jesus is begotten. The elevation of God's creation concerns us. The talk show hosts are right though. I think we probably do agree probably 80%-90% doctrinally, which is why the focus on Mary breaks our hearts.

@@dianerupert5196 I get your point. Jesus was honoring his mother's wish as instructed in Exodus 20. However, in later verses, Jesus makes it clear that she has no station above his other disciples (Matthew 12:46-50, Luke 11:27-28). And another verse to think about: John 3:29-30 "The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete. He must increase, but I must decrease." This applies to Marian elevation, too. How can you say that devotion to Mary brings about more devotion to Christ? Like John the Baptist, Mary and all of us must decrease so Jesus is properly glorified. Yes, Mary is blessed, but no station or title is given to her in the bible except "mother of Jesus."

Imagine a livestream of Rosaries being prayed not at a single location, but where Keith could be onsite at one location with a crowd of people praying, and this group could do the same at their own location, and maybe some others with their own gatherings. Unite groups that pray the rosary. GabiAfterHours promotes the Rosary and maybe he could do something. Rosary Army does stuff with the Rosary and even has it in their name. Who knows how many groups could unite for at least a one-time thing.

That reminds me of a Rosary chain some groups do worldwide. I know the Marians of the Immaculate Conception in Stockbridge, Mass did something like that. Basically they got a bunch of churches together across the globe, assigned each group one of the 4 mysteries, and the group prays, meditates, etc about that Mystery for an hour, and then passes it on to the next group.
I live streamed it last year and it was really cool being a part of it, even if I wasn’t there in person and didn’t know the people before and after me.

I’m a 56 y.o. new Catholic (Easter Vigil 2023) from lifetime hard-core evangelicalism, the last two decades as a strong Calvinist Presbyterian. In my conversations with my Protestant family and friends, their arguments trying to get me back to “their” side or against Catholic doctrines and dogmas always devolve to emotion. At the root of “Sola Scriptura” is private interpretation - a prideful “I know best what God means.” It is a major blind spot for most devout Protestants. They do not consciously realize the amount of pride wrapped up in their death-grip on “Sola Scriptura.” But merely prick that outer shell by suggesting that Christ established a Magisterium that has divine teaching and Scriptural interpretation authority, and the all the defensive shields come up. They claim, “I submit to the final authority of Holy Scripture.” But they really submit to the authority of their own preferred interpretation of the Scriptures. They submit only to their own consciences. Pointing out that fact makes for a very uncomfortable few moments.

    • @wjtruax
      @wjtruax 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@CatholicDefender-bp7my there is tremendous sincerity in the faith of all my devout Protestant family and friends. They want me “back” because they are concerned for my soul, which I greatly appreciate. That soul concern opens up the opportunity for me to talk about my concerns for their souls. They love Christ and want him to be glorified above all things. They sincerely think they are doing that. It’s that demonic deception in which they are trapped by the extremely subtle pride of “Sola Scriptura” and all the “we know better” baggage it brings with it. Our Lord preached a paradoxical faith. Another true Christian paradox is, “Freedom is only found in true submission.” Submitting to the true Church, instead of one’s own interpretation of Scripture is a huge and radical step. I understand the difficulty. It took me almost three years. Grace & peace.

Listened to the podcast last night on my way home from a St. Dismas (prison ministry) meeting. Keith has been there from the beginning of my conversion. Men like Scott Hahn and Steve Ray are great, but I wanted to hear from someone who has recently converted, like Keith. To walk away from your former faith, and in his case, his job requires a huge leap of faith. I try now to bridge that gap and help other non-Catholics find their way to the Church. Like Keith, I was raised in an Evangelical home, and we openly bashed Catholics. We referred to the Church as the whore of Babylon and the Pope as the antichrist. These things were often talked about in evangelical circles, like at Sunday evening services, or on retreats. I've come to the conclusion that Evangelicals suffer from extreme envy and anxiety when it comes to the Catholic Church. They HAVE to disprove it and throw stones for it, otherwise they feel their religion is invalid. After my Saul-2-Paul conversion, I can't shut up about Christ and the Church.
Keith is so right about how we change those perceptions about Catholicism - we first must live out the faith in our lives. If you're a hypocrite, they will call you out. Live above reproach and let others know you for your love, not hate. When I approach Protestants in love and compassion, and allow Christ to work through me, it almost always bears fruit. We also must be public and bold about the Church, our commitment to the Sacraments, and the Gospel teachings of Christ. Cradle Catholics walk away from the faith everyday saying "I never heard the gospel preached." Stop with the milk toast, limp-wrist homilies, Bishops/Priests/Deacons need to be bold in preaching Christ lived, died, and was resurrected so that we might live forever with Him!

Thank you SO much! There were a lot of things that you shared on how to respond to Protestants when they ask why Catholics worship Mary and the Saints etc. Why we go to confession & other sacraments etc.
I have responded with: we don’t worship Mary or the Saints, we pray to them to pray for us. To ask for their support when accomplishing certain tasks etc. Your response on how you explain to Protestants was wonderful and helps me explain a little deeper. Explaining that as a Catholic, we are Christians, the first Christians has stopped those wanting to debate me as to which church or faith is better. That we are taught specific things and that we do not change the narrative to suit what is convenient for me. That God had rules and they are not meant to be bent to suit our needs. I have had many people try to get into an argument with me out of nowhere just because they know that I am Catholic and that I believe in repenting for my sins. I tell them that I believe what I believe. That I’m not going to change my faith, that I’m not going to argue about it as much as they want me to. That they are free to believe in what they want to because that is why God gave us free-will. But that their wanting to push forth a debate as to what and who I believe in is not very Christian of them. It’s malicious with Ill intent and is very self serving which God does not teach us. They usually stumble and cannot come up with a response to that because they know what I’m saying is true. God and Jesus are one. When I pray to Jesus, I am praying to His Father. MY Father. The only God. When I repent to God, it is between me and my Father. And not their business to know.

When a Catholic says I am Catholic, not Christian , he/she is using the "meaning" of "christian" as one of the thousands of protestant churches. Then obviously they are not christian in that sense of the world.
This has come about through the protestants who ask people: " Are you Catholic OR Christian."? This is a typical American thing which is starting in Europe also but wasn't before. When this happens to me, I answer them straightforward and say I am a Catholic and Catholics are Christian because we follow Christ and the Catholic Church has been instituted by Him.
It teaches them 2 things. 1. I am a christian 2. The church I am in is instituted by the ONE I follow, Jesus Christ.

Actually Mr. Nester thank you for coming on here... you are covering a topic for me that is one of the most painful subjects as I watch people, and listen to people who are NOT Catholic that have all these misconceptions about my faith... Although it is a SMALL example; even the British TV series Downton Abby has an episode early on where the Earl of Grantham "makes fun of" the fact that we kneel a few times during the mass. That honestly hurt.... So thanks for helping to clarify much of this...I always learn so much from this show.... still don't totally agree with you three about CHURCH MUSIC... (LOL)...but I so love this show...

2 of our adult children have left the RC Church & they say, "if it's not in the Bible, it doesn't exist" I even quoted several other things from the Bible that doesn't support Bible alone at all, but they seem to be blinded to the Truth; it's really hard. One has been in an evangelical church for years now & the children too; the other doesn't go to any church but just takes what the Protestant Bible says & has also protestant Bible study book. It's VERY frustrating. I'm a convert to the RC Church & I was always drawn to it when very young, but it was when I met my husband & got married, I finally managed to be a Catholic 3 yrs. later. Praise be to God!

HI Guys, greetings from South Africa. Thanks for an incredible show, its always informative and inspiring. I can totally resonate with what you are saying a a cradle Catholic. Im still busy with RCIA but have experienced exacly what you are describing in a country that is predominantly Protestant, the latter of which is deeply divided on so many platforms. I was also poorly catechized and had no sound foundation for what I believed to being a Christian. I enjoy your show and must confess Father Mike also (hehe), as well as the Apologetics llike Jimmy that you invite regularly. It is so good and free to finally get some concrete answers on my questions. God bless and keep up the good work, your humility and humor are admirable.

At the beginning of the video Keith talked about Protestants Jumping from Church to Church.
One thing I love about the Church is we as Catholics can kind of do this as well. I love going to Masses in other Perishes. Each Preist has their own style if you will of saying Mass and Homily. And many Perishes have there own added traditions such as Praying the Rosery, Divine Mercy and or other Chaplits and set of Prayers. And I haven't found one yet where they arnt glad for you to join in.
Then if traveling and you want to go to Church exceptions aside it's fairly easy to find a Catholic Church.

My grandmother HATED Catholics. Called us "fish eaters." She was very upset when my father married my Catholic mother. Grandma was some form of protestant. When she got very old she was rather indigent and the only home that would accept her was Catholic. She got to experience the Mass and learn about who were actually are. She was received into the Catholic Church about a year before she passed away. She realized for over 80 years she had been completely mistaken about the Church. Deo gratias.

Thank you for this episode. I have felt this way for a long time but could never come up with the words to describe it. You gents did that. "What we believe" vs "what they don't believe" really snapped me to attention. Also the isolating, concreteness of an individual Protestant interpreting Scripture in different ways that is contrary to another's interpretation. You guys identified my questions and answered them. As a Catholic, it was hard to use the mindset of "what we don't believe". I am used to falling toward catechism, Scripture, tradition, and Church teaching. Thank you all for the insights

Love the work you are doing brothers. As a evangelical Christian with a Pentecostal background I have to say I love the Catholic Church. I would consider myself a Orthodox protesting Catholic now. My hart was opened when I heard a Orthodox priest , a Catholic priest, and a Anglican priest all preaching the same gospel. I got and read the Catholic catechism and found the exact same faith I have always held to by the grace of God. There are a lot more Christians out there who would strongly affirm the apostles creed and stand in unity with their brothers from the East and West . Pray God we start to come together in this wicked age. Our Lord is coming back , let’s unit and be as faithful servants ready for their Master return.
    Thanks again

@@kyled3737 I am not an authority in the church, but I imagine it will be okay for you to attend Mass, to experience it for yourself and to observe what happens. I think you are most definitely welcome to join in the prayers.
But I heard from a traditional Catholic podcaster that we are to refrain from taking communion while we are in a state of sin. When I know I have sinned during the week, and failed to confess, I remain in my seat during communion.
Hopefully another Catholic will come here and clarify this for you.
RCIA is basically a series of classes that introduce the teachings and traditions. In this setting, you will meet Catholics in person who can guide you.
I would recommend calling the parish and asking about this. 😊

Im a convert, i was baptized methodist and was pretty devout but finally left the church at 18. Spent about 12 years agnostic, i studied buddhism, taoism, atheism, and finally found myself a christian.
The next 12 years i spent obsessed with finding the true theology of god. Investigated jehovahs witnesses, several baptists, free methodists, Presbyterians, and after all that i realized no denomination had it right so i refused to join any church but id visit any of them to worship. Finally one day when things were very low i prayed to god to show me the truth. That night i dreamt of the catholic church and was shown a vision that it was the true church.
I woke up and didnt want to believe it, I believed all the myths about catholics. I didnt know a single catholic in my life, there wasnt a catholic church for 30 mins drive from me. I became obsessed with joining the church and getting into RCIA. My wife thought i was having a midlife crisis!

I don't want to be elitist but most Protestants I talk to have zero understanding of where the doctrines they believe actually came from. Ask: "Do you believe in the Trinity?" "Yes." I point out that it is not in the Bible. "Yeah but all three names are there so it essentially is." I then point out that he said he believed in the "Trinity" not just the three persons of "Father, Son, and Holy Ghost." The "Trinity" is a doctrine that defines the nature of one God in three persons. It isn't in the Bible, it took something like 200 years to define it and there were heresies along the way. It didn't develop by itself.

I converted and joined the Church 12 years ago at 30 after a short upbringing in the Evangelical Congregationalist church (my parents only took me to their church until I was 7). Despite this, Christ was calling me Home since I was 5. Despite the terrible things I had been taught about the Church and Catholics, I always knew it was my Home.
The real kicker is that my full confidence in my need to join the Church came while I was attending a Protestant seminary for a master’s degree in counseling. Their inability to answer my “big” questions, and their outright support of heresy, is what lead me to finally confront the misconceptions about the Church and to realize Her Truth.
To this day, my family is unhappy about my conversion. While my father is passive about it, my mother often asks antagonizing questions with no desire to hear answers or have a dialogue. It breaks my heart that she believes what she does about the Faith and now me as a Catholic. We used to be very close, but my marriage to a Catholic and my conversion changed that.
But I trust in Jesus, and that the Holy Spirit will do the work of changing her heart of stone. I continue to raise my boys as loudly Catholic and try to catechize them to the best of my family’s ability. ❤
Thank you for this great discussion. 🙏🏻
