These questions and logical reasoning led me towards Catholicism. I asked myself a simple question, "What did the earliest Christians believe?" To my surprise, I stumbled upon a fact that I couldn't accept: Jesus founded the Catholic Church. It dawned on me that if he indeed established the Catholic Church, and he promised that the gates of hell won't prevail against it, then I must be living in denial. I realized that if Protestantism were true, universalism had to be true, which is not the case. I just wish my family could understand this.
St Irenaeus confirmed catholicism for me

Absolutely bro. Once I realized this all I could see during Jesus's ministry was him establishing sacraments and the foundation of a Church for the Holy Spirit to work through. I really hope that the Orthodox and Catholic Church can reunify once again for the sake of the world.

They try to construct paradigms where good and evil still exist in their world. They don’t because there is no purpose. We would be nothing but soulless biochemical reactions if they are right. Ahh... no problem. Honest questions deserve honest answers. You just ask the wrong people? Give an example of your questions
and consider calling into the Catholic Answers radio show. They will direct you to the speaker best qualified to respond. Personally with a background in the science arena I insist on observable facts. The church is loaded with them; everything from the analysis of the Shroud of Turin to the Eucharistic Miracles [I think there are around 200 of them verified]. Proof that Jesus is God? No problem, He did over 40 specific miracles during his 3 years of teaching ... and many more where everyone in a crowd who came to him was healed. Just ask Jesus to show you He is God... and if honest ... He will respond in a time and place of His choosing [He will tailor the response to you personally].

Please explain this to me, there is so much confusion.
Leviticus 18:22 has been translated in common English versions as: Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination. You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; such a thing is an abomination.
And when you’re an abomination you try to obscure that bit of scripture. What would St Catherine of Siena say?

    • @michaelpcooksey5096

Lie = To have sex with. No same gender sexual stimulation and release. ... an abomination because pleasure becomes the central objective instead of obedience to God's instruction to use sex only for the procreation of children within a lawful marriage of male and female.

After watching this with my wife, here are my impressions: Well, the speaker has a bent towards the crude. It is completely out of place in this setting. Then, his talk needs to have clear linear directionality. It does not. That would take actual work in preparation instead of just speaking off the cuff like he did. I.E. writing out the talk as notes and restricting oblique jokes to prevent THEM dominating the presentation. He bounces all over the place so much only specific examples remain in memory. Those examples ARE good solid highlights … but the weeds and changing winds of thought make them isolated quick items that disappear into a huge field of six foot tall waving grass. Finally ,while the speaker is obviously educated, he is slow to obtuse in picking up on the lack of audience appreciation for his chosen mode of humor. In fact it was hard at times to differentiate between what he was trying to get them to laugh at … and what he was actually presenting as talk material. The audience didn't laugh ONCE. My after effect was similar to being whirled around and around on a spinning merry go round disk and then told to get off. Bottom line: He could do much better so get cracking... you know better !

To them He has promised salvation to those who do certain prayers and devotions. Can the church validate them? No, not the promises ... but they do authenticate the status of capital S Saint to those the Lord or our Lady have spoken to. A number of those prayer sequences I have completed: St. Bridget's 15 prayers [to be done daily for a year] for example. The issue is can we relax in our holiness seeking. Nope, if we stop working there we begin to slide into sin. What do you think?

Dr. Guarendi is correct that an incoherent or self-contradictory system is a sign of an error, but he is wrong here in two ways:
    1) A system can be coherent and still be false. This is what games involve. A good game is a completely internally-coherent system... but it is false/imaginary.
    2) Roman Catholicism is largely more coherent than some religions, but it has several very serious inconsistencies internal to it having to do with its claims about infallibility and papal supremacy.
It very well may be that he discerned Roman Catholicism to be, in some respects, more coherent than whatever system he was in, but the problem is that if he is just as critical of Roman Catholicism as he is of other Christian traditions (not including his misrepresentations and exaggerations), Roman Catholicism will not survive either.

The basics are just what makes you a Christian. We have to agree that God is in charge and forgives on our sins. There is a lot of disagreements on everything else, but its bizzare to say basics don't exist (or if they do, its only whatever the Catholic church says). I am fervently pro-life, but that isn't a "basic" position as Scripture is actually really vague when it comes to abhortion. Good point on the Bible differences though (I didn't even know that we cut the OT down)

@WeaponofChoice-hx2hn The argument is so much whether we should listen to the apostles (we agree on that), but on what percisely did they mean by what they said? (There might be debates on what exactly was said as well, but I think that's not the main focus). When people ignore something clearly stated in Scripture (and what is "clear" may be a matter of debate, but isially not), I would tend to be suscious that they truly beleive (although only God knows for sure). I find it questionable that people who beleive homosexuality is okay ito be suspect. However, I wouldn't doubt piousness because sdomeone has a different intrepretation on the book of Revelations (virtually nothing is clear in that).

The Catholic Church is THE Christian Church that Christ established.
Pacianus (A.D. 372), in answer to Sempronian the Novatian, who demanded of him why Christians called themselves Catholics, replied, "Christian is my name, and Catholic my surname; the one is my title, the other my character or mark of distinction"

“See that you all follow the bishop, even as Jesus Christ does the Father, and the presbytery as you would the apostles; and reverence the deacons, as being the institution of God. Let no man do anything connected with the Church without the bishop. Let that be deemed a proper Eucharist, which is [administered] either by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. The Bible is read every single day in the masses that take place everyday around the world. The Church gives us the sacraments and we are expected to live out the faith when we leave mass. The Catholic Church has the highest moral standards of all religions. Of course, the Church is made up of sinners that live short of the standards, but we judge medicine by those who take it, not by those who don’t.

Buvazoi.....viewers, just look at the reply of Catholics.
Can u at least be intelligent enough to reply according to what is commented. When I say tht the RCC teaching is wrong n contradicts bible, u reply with another one of your RCC teaching tht has no substance, still contradicts bible n does not answer any of the questions I raised.
Fact is, everything tht I commented, are bible verses which say tht no man on earth is empowered n authorised to add, take away or change. N if u have another book tht shows tht u hv added or taken away or changed verses from the bible, then it means u hv the bible tht says one thing n your book tht says n means something else. N the verses I mentioned, clearly states tht no man has authority to add or take away from god's word.
The addition tht Mary is co redemptrix n co mediatrix as found in the catechism is clear enough tht these contradict bible.
N infallibility of popes is demonic. This is what decrees tht the pope has authority to add or take away from the word. From infallibility all additions are made n decreed tht they are from god. Thts why it is deceiving n demonic.

Please stop spreading falsehoods. *_Catholics are the first Christians_* and belong to the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church built by Jesus upon Cephas (Aramaic means Rock) see John 1:42 also.
Know what Christians were first called? Followers of *the Way.* Later given the name Christians as a derogatory term by deniers of Christ. Read Acts. Later, St. Ignatius was the first to write of Catholic. He was taught by St. John and ordained Bishop of Antioch by St Peter. Read his letter to the Smyrnaeans (c. 107 AD). P.S. P.S. Jesus said and gave His Apostles and their ordained successors, the Bishops/priests that authority. Jesus also breathed God's breath upon His Apostles, and said *_whose sins you forgive are forgiven and whose sins you retain are retained._* Not to anyone else and no angels either. No other person can remove your sins from your soul *except those ordained successors of the Apostles as established and delegated by Jesus.* The Apostles then passed on that Sacrament to their successors (Bishops and Priests) whom they taught and ordained. Jesus sent them to continue His ministry and gave Simon bar Jonah a new name: Cephas which is Aramaic and means Rock (English is Peter) also the keys to the kingdom of heaven which represent complete authority to rule and make decisions in place of the King. This One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church is the only one which Jesus promised to protect and guide, sending the Paraclete (Advocate) only to His Apostles and their successors in the Church to guide in truth. (Jn 14:16-18; 1 Tim 3:15).

Conversely, Peter (and His successors) was consecrated by Jesus (the Head Shepherd, the High Priest) to be the visible Lead Shepherd, the visible Head Bishop over The united (one), universal (Catholic) Church which Jesus, (the builder and cornerstone) built upon Cephas and has the prophets and Apostles as the foundation. See John 21:15-17 when Jesus makes Peter the visible, delegated Shepherd on earth over Jesus's flock (lambs and sheep) in the Church (Sheepfold of Jesus). Feed and tend (teach and guide) to truth of Jesus's teachings (dogmas/doctrines) and commandments.

      Hey dannyboy, I've presented,
with erudition, many historical facts as well as biblical facts in several of your numerous posts throughout.
Oh and btw, *_Catholics are the first Christians_* and belong to the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church built by Jesus upon Cephas (Aramaic means Rock) see John 1:42 also.
107 AD). P.S. It is the Catholic Church whom gave the world the canon of the bible: all 73 books. Protestants took away from the Holy word of God.
Conclusive, just as the first disciples and Apostles of Christ were called "followers of the Way" and not Christians. By your same illogical stance, then, were the Apostles "Christians" since at 1st they were known as "followers of the Way"? How then did they change their name from "the Way" to "Christian", and then later to be called "Catholic" Christian c. 107 AD? See how ridiculous your viewpoint is! The Church is Catholic because she is "for all (universally) people". Hence, all the first disciples (means "followers of Christ") were Catholic Christians.
      1 Timothy 3:15
...in God's Household which is the Church of the living God, the pillar and bulwark of truth.
Singular: *_the_* Church. *_The_* Household. One, single; not plural. Which is for *all* people. A universal (Catholic) Church.
Not any of those other over 45,000 different separated denominations that don't even agree on their own various beliefs and are their own authority, eschewing God's authority which He delegated to the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church.
      Amen

Jesus established his church with the apostles in Matt 16. The apostles were born again Christians jn 3:3, n they died as born again Christians. They preached only what Jesus commanded n they were not infallible. N this line of born again christians exists until today.

Actually dannyboy, if you knew history you would realize that the official name of the RRC is just "The Church ". She is called Roman because Protestants derogatively labeled her that. The first church established in the city of Rome was by St. Peter, the first Bishop of Rome (official title of the Pope) and where Sts. Peter and Paul were martyred on the same day. She is Catholic because she is ONE (catholic means universal) for all peoples. She is Holy because Jesus (the cornerstone) built her upon Cephas (Rock which in English is Peter) compare John 1:42. She is Apostolic because she has the Apostles and prophets as the foundation. Read Ephesians. And The Church is the household of God and the pillar and bulwark of truth. 1 Tim 3:15. Jesus commanded believers to "Listen to the Church" and "obey your Bishops". Amen

Is Mary the mother of god.? If Mary is not the mother of the triune god head then she is not the mother of god even if Jesus is her son n god. It's absolutely stupid, ridiculous n embarassing to call a human being the mother of our divine creator. Can a created being be the mother of the creator? Can a dead human, still in the ground, be the mother of almighty god? Thts why u need another lie for the assumption into heaven. N can a dead human be the mother of father god who is spirit. N can a dead human be the mother of the holy spirit whom the RCC calls spouse of mary, another blasphemy. N can a spouse also be god to Mary?
The rest of the world does not know tht this is one of Mary's titles or else it would be the joke of the century.
This is why the RCC is not of god. When I was catholic I could not see wrong in anything but after a person is born again, the holy spirit will teach n enlighten. Thts why Mary is not known as the mother of god in the bible. It's only found in the RCC catechism, decreed n man made in Rome thru infallibility.
Infallibility is demonic n a curse. From here all the traditions come forth n all caths are forced to believe. Mary as co redemptrix, co mediatrix, even contradict the bible n slaps Jesus in the face. But who knows n who cares. The history of miracles at that location are there for examination ... as are those at Fatima, Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico, and on and on. Thing is ... one has to actually want to find the truth to begin with ... and that means turning away from the man in the mirror to look at solid facts ... both facts that seem nice, and those that are terrifying.

First John 1:8 says: “If we make the statement, ‘We have no sin,’ we are misleading ourselves and the truth is not in us.” Verse 10 also says: “If we make the statement, ‘We have not sinned,’ we are making him a liar and his word is not in us.”

. "But is the Catholic religion, and indeed Christianity, in fact irrational?"
Absolutely! You see, the Catholic religion and Christianity are two different things. For instance...
    1. At Matt. 23:9, Jesus said: "Call no one on earth your father; you have but one Father in heaven." But, Catholics are taught to address their priests as 'Father."
    2. At John 17:3, Jesus said that his Father is "the ONLY true God." But, Catholics are taught that the Father is God, the Son is God, and the holy spirit is God."
    3. At John 4:23, Jesus taught that "true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and truth." Catholics are taught that :"we worship one God in trinity."
    4. Jesus NEVER taught his followers to worship Mary. Catholics are taught to worship Mary.
    5. Jesus taught his followers to pray to his Father. (Matt. 6:6, 9) Catholics are told to pray to Mary.
So, do I see the logic of being Catholic? Absolutely not!
