Pulse Motor On A Stick

  • This is simple electric pulse motor mounted on a 'craft stick'. I show it here running on a pre charged 2.7v / 5F supercapacitor and a 1.5 v button cell. For some strange reason the motor will run for 7 hours on the tiny button cell. The lowest run voltage I have seen is less than 100 millivolts but it needs about 1 milliamp. The little 'stick motor' is setup so I can test low power sources such as indoor solar panels and homemade batteries.
    Here is the link to the reed switch:

    For the last year or so I have been using a lot of popcicle sticks to make little circuits on. I have made a lot of your penny type circuits using different coil arrangements.

      Those little sticks are fun. I had to fix my original Penny today. The 1M pot went out. It has been running non-stop on a solar rechargeable Epsom salt and stainless steel pot scrubber cell for many months now. It runs all the time day and night-- summer and winter. When the pot failed it failed in shorted way and the circuit when on full power and the light when on full and would drain the battery quick.

    nice, the reed switch actual acts as a spark gap transmitter, which is what make electricity wireless.

  • @magnetman2010
    @magnetman2010 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't use the pot any more. I use a one meg resistor with a 104 cap around it and some times add a 100 ohm resistor to make it a bit brighter.

    Ya, Lidmotor, my observation (from years, if you also look at my OU Joule Thief movie from my channel) is that watch batteries are more overunity than other batteries - i dont know exactly, maybe the maded inside chemistry, as you say, but this is the experimental truth, works well, in a overunity way. :) thanks for sharings, keep going, very nice project!

    I like how things we think we know inside out throw up surprises. Seems to me with this, that the magnets always have the same properties, the switch is open or closed, the coil will snap its back EMF fast every time. It would be a case of enough to move the magnets at all will keep it running, the constants keep it going.

    As always so neat and tidy and so effective. I have items arriving from eBay that have taken so long I can't remember what I planned to do with them and I can't find the items that arrived quickly because I put them somewhere safe. I will have to take a break and do a big tidy up soon. Those faucet lights are a good example. Do you think I can find where I put them??

    • @Lidmotor
      @Lidmotor  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Why is it that the one critical part one needs for a project is always found in place where you know you never put it. Sometimes the item is sitting in plain sight and I just don't see it. Sometimes I get so frustrated that I just want to throw out the stuff and start over.

    Great little pulser Lidmotor. This is an ideal device to capture the backspike energy into say another supercap, regular cap, then measure what energy can be recaptured for re-use. Your reed switch is tripping from the coil fields rather than the perm magnets? That is curious also. aloha
    A good science experiment

    • @Lidmotor
      @Lidmotor  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jack Scholze Hey Jack. I don't know exactly why the reed switch works next to the coil. The reed still works off the rotor magnets but the coil must have some effect on it also.

    sir another question it's about the coil that ur using. what is the guage of it, how many turn and what is the wide of the air core. that is just simply came from a tv flyback?

    • @Lidmotor
      @Lidmotor  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +erbinjay padit The coil is a standard plastic sewing machine thread bobbin filled up with 30ga magnet wire. It has about 6 ohms of resistance. I didn't count the turns. It is not critical.

      The coil is a standard sewing machine plastic bobbin wound up full of 30ga magnet wire. Several hundred turns. The size wire and number of turns are not critical.

    what if you used a schottkey diode with a lower forward voltage of say 0.2v? lower forward voltage means less reverse voltage and more efficiency.

    • @Lidmotor
      @Lidmotor  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually a 1N4007 or a 1N4148 switching diode is better ---but I like looking at the light because it visually lets me know how much juice is moving around. This is not very efficient but it is fun.

    how long does the motor run on that capacitor if you left it alone?

    • @Lidmotor
      @Lidmotor  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The motor runs about 10 minutes on this cap filled with about 2 volts. If I put a resistor in the circuit it will run much longer. The button cell long run time really is a mystery to me. There is no way that should have happened.

    Another great vid! Great job!
    Just a couple of questions:
    1. Did you buy/make that little breadboard?
    2. What is the manuf name & part number for the diode & reed switch that you used?
    *Note:* Your button cell may contain silver oxide. Check here: www.ehow.com/about_5605853_silver-oxide-vs_-alkaline-battery.html
    for more information on silver oxide vs alkaline cells.

    • @Lidmotor
      @Lidmotor  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The little breadboard is a cut off piece of a longer one that I got at Electronicgoldmine. I don't know if they still have them or not. The black reed switch is 'magnetic proximity switch' I got on EBay. They use them in alarm systems and such. The LED is just a common garden variety white LED.

      A B The Neo magnets are grade 42 discs. 5/16"x 5/64". I bought them at Harbor Freight tools. They came 10 to a package for a couple bucks but I don't know if they carry them anymore. Any neo disc magnet close to that size will work.

    • @ab_ab_c
      @ab_ab_c 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      TY!
      Have you ever seen/used this webste: Pulse Motor On A Stick
      You can look at the forces that different grades of neodymium magnets can produce. Your magnets produce something like a magnet to magnet force arrangement (i.e. your coil's magnetic field vs your magnet fields, for a short time interval).
