The production quality of your videos is right up there with some of the best content creators. The camera angles, the music and the colour correction is top notch. Also being in a beautiful location is huge bonus. Thanks for sharing this walk with us, I sure hope to do it one day. P.S. hope Dougie's calves are okay 🤞🤞
I have watched several videos about the Milford Track. Without any reservations, this is by far the very best I have seen. Plenty of comments below say exactly what I am feeling. And your sense of humour made the day. Thank you.
From the cinematography to the music choice, you absolutely nailed this one! One of the best hiking videos I’ve seen in a long time. I loved all the historic facts too!
The Milford Track looks absolutely incredible! 🏞 Those views and the journey through Fiordland are just breathtaking. The itinerary and distances seem perfect for soaking up the landscape - definitely inspiring for anyone wanting to experience New Zealand's wilderness. Thanks for sharing this adventure! 🌿🚶♂
Hayley, this is SO good…broadcast quality, in my humble opinion, and as a couple of the networks are getting interested in showcasing walks in nature, I see your work as eminently credentialed to be included. I hope you receive some acknowledgement and encouragement to spread your message and fun to a wider audience. You and Dougie make a great ‘point and counterpoint’ couple and I am surprised that Dougie didn’t drop a few ‘photocopiers’ as a result of his calf pain and inflammation, which I saw in his gait as he walked (I hope he’s getting some good medical advice and even physio for future-proofing himself). Great work indeed and you captured the essence of a really special place. 👏👏👏👏
I put my public holiday morning to good use and finally had the time to watch it. Congratulations Hayley - I've been a fan from the start and I think this is your best video so far! Stunning scenery.
My partner and I watched all the Milford track videos we could find before we did the track in February this year, This is the best we've seen yet! I also pulled a calf muscle and went for a Thai massage in Te Anau the day before! Lucky for me the massage resolved the issue but the walk was still pretty tough especially the decent on day 3. it was so beautiful, incredibly rewarding. Thanks for helping us relive the experience! Look forward to seeing more of your awesome videos :)
What a funny coincidence that you also pulled a calf muscle, would have made the video that much more relatable 🤣 I agree that decent was tough!! Thank you so much for watching 💚
Aww thank you for keeping those TH-cam algorithms happy 😂 I haven't quite been back in Aus for a full year yet, but i'm sure New Zealand will start to call me any moment now!
What a great adventure! Thank you for sharing this amazing footage and entertaining commentary. Bonus points to Dougie who bravely managed to keep going with that calf injury.
Looks like a great time! I did the Kepler back in 98 as a 21yr old kid, lol. Have always wanted to do the Routeburn or the Milford when I am next in the South Pacific. Very well edited!
Haha i'm hoping in 20 years my own videos will help me remember what the track was like. 😛 I am yet to do the Kepler! Definitely keep Routeburn and Milford high on your list! Thank you! ☺️
Another goodie Hayley. Obvoiusly footage from the archives, but full of humour, wit and practical info. God we live in a beautiful country (on the proper side of the Tasman) here in NZ. Loved it, as always. Thank you yet again. Come Back! G.
Thank you so much! I was pretty fascinated by the old photos I found when doing my research. So I love weaving both the vlog style and actual info throughout. Feeling like a pretty lucky Aussie that New Zealand is never too far away! I think I can hear whispers of NZ calling already. 😋
This was ripper! Did this walk (guided, I must admit) with my Mum a few years ago, and this brought back heaps of memories. We were wading through knee-high water most of the last day, we had that much rain! Also super cool to see your editing/filming skills getting better and better Hayley :)
So crazy how the weather can make for a totally different experience! We were so slow with filming that everyone on the guided hike would catch us each day so we were basically doing it with them 🤣 Thank you! I really appreciate you watching 😊
I did the Milford Track back in 1987, the guided walk. The infrastructure for the independent hikers was pretty much non existent. We got to the top of McKinnon Pass and saw nothing, it was shrouded in cloud. Your video brought so many great memories and huge forgotten parts of the walk. I do remember though that the sand flies and sandfly point were no joke.
I did laugh at some of the excerpts they had on the hut wall from the early 1900's about how 'distasteful' they were that they couldn't see anything up the top knowing the mountains were sitting right there. It would have been rather disappointing! Im so glad the video could bring back some memories 😊
I recall arriving at Mintaro hut and being told by the ranger to drop the backpack and climb the pass as there wasn't going to be a view the following day. What I saw the following day was one of the private guides standing at the pass offering a hot chocolate in the pouring rain, only to snatch it back on realising I was independent. No love 😞 Epic video for an eqic walk! Awesome work. PS Marchies over sandies any day. Marchies are easier to swat! PPS where are all the dead boots hanging on the final sign?
Just booked my first Great Walk! Will be checking out your what to pack vid. One day I'll do Milford Sound track. Please, what is the song about giving a piece of your soul? Thank you!
Curious to know what time of year you went given this is recently uploaded but it’s winter and you’re swimming :) Trying to find info on hiking just prior to Great Walks season opening :) So great you could swim!
Haha this was prime time January, most of my hikes will often be done in the warmer months for better chance of filming without rain difficulties, and for swims! 😛 I remember I did do the Overland track in Tassie on the very last week of the off season. It was pretty cool with the snow but I imagine NZ would be double snow 😛
I think it is allowed as I believe I have heard of a few people doing it. I'm sure you are a machine if the thought of doing that has crossed your mind! 😛
Ha, pros of keeping the bladder water only. Microfiber hand/towel is going to get a workout. One step at a time leads to one day at a time. Someone cares about the food prep, but like if a tree falls in a forest and no one is around, did it happen? Dougie going to get passed by an 81yo... Yep start early and then you don't have to rush to get there before nightfall, so much to enjoy and take in. Will say NZ Marmite is better than the UK... but both don't hold a candle to Vegimite.
if sun is the true source of heat and it is millions of miles away from the earth then how come heat from the sun can travel millions of miles through freezing vacuum of space unaffected while few 1000 meters of altitude on earth can become the difference between 0 & 40 celsius

Incredible footage, scenery, commentary, editing, shenanigans, everything! Exceptional Filmmaking, wow

Ok this has inspired me I am definitely heading back into the hills this summer
I agree with this plan of yours! 🙂

PS. I was disappointed that the authorities only categorized walkers as ‘guided’ or ‘independent’ I would have chosen door 3: ‘misguided’
What a beautiful part of the world. Thanks for sharing Haley.
It really is! I’m grateful we had a view up the top! Thank you 🙂
This was pretty good, I think the humour was my sold point : )
I put my public holiday morning to good use and finally had the time to watch it. Congratulations Hayley - I've been a fan from the start and I think this is your best video so far! Stunning scenery.
This is a feast for the senses. Thank you for bringing this world famous walk into my living room. I look forward to Milford IRL.
A feast for the senses, I love that description! 😄 Thank you!! I look forward to you looking forward to Milford in real life 😋
Outstanding filming and editing guys, this looks and feels so professional! Great channel and simply love it! 👌👌
I always appreciate comments on the filming and editing. Thank you so much! Thanks for watching 😊

Oh the memories ❤ and I have to say I love watching Dougie lol and yep I'm with him, it's one step at a time 😂
46 min thank you ! I watched it twice in a row ! Miss New Zealand so much .
Aww thank you for keeping those TH-cam algorithms happy 😂 I haven't quite been back in Aus for a full year yet, but i'm sure New Zealand will start to call me any moment now!
This was fantastic, your hard work and skills have turned this already beautiful trail into a complete experience that can be shared with the world.
Aww thank you so much! It is my hope that people can sit down with some popcorn and experience the hike virtually! :)
What a great adventure! Thank you for sharing this amazing footage and entertaining commentary. Bonus points to Dougie who bravely managed to keep going with that calf injury.
Another epic hiking video. Filming and editing and content all amazing. Well done!
One step at a time ❤
🥾💚
Yayyyy! Gosh, some solid memories revisited there in another quality instalment. Absolutely stunning work. Enjoyed this one very much. 💚
Its so nice to hear everybody recalling their own memories while watching the video! 😊 Thank you so much! 🫶

@@settohike Yay. Hope the whispers turn into vocals and then SHOUT at you. Cheerz.👍👍
@@grahameharris5557 hahah I'll wake in the middle of the night scared, wondering who is shouting at me 🤣
@@settohike It'll be the call of the Kiwi, for sure. No need for alarm!
Beautiful!
It sure is! 😊
This video just popped up on TH-cam! Nice videography and very entertaining. Did this walk twice in the 1980s, brings back great memories.
I'm glad TH-cam is serving up the right videos! Thanks so much, happy it could unlock a few memories 😊
Awesome Hayley. Thanks for taking me home. I'll have to get back there and do some hikes.
Thank you for watching 😊 Sounds like you’ve got yourself a good idea, my list is already building for the next visit!
Just awesome Hayley! Super fun and interesting vid, loved every second. Tourism NZ I hope you're watching...
To your hiking partner, IDK exactly what he did to his calves BUT look into calf compression sleeves! It's honestly a gamechanger.
Yus, this the one I have been waiting for, thanks Hayley
I hope it’s worth the wait! 😊
Such an incredible walk, breathtakingly beautiful!
Really enjoyed this, love the dynamic of you both 😊
Thanks so much! Haha there are only 2 other hikes still to come with Dougie that I’ve got footage of. Not sure if I can convince him for any more 😛
Cool video, I enjoyed watching it very much. I've never been to New Zealand, maybe one day....after all, it's just across the ditch.
Great work!
Great video and thanks for filming it so beautifully!
Thank you! 🙏The mountains are great models!
Thanks for sharing another great video. Awesome work! 👌
I've only just started watching, but man am I excited for this! 🙌

@@settohike a fantastic 46 minutes it was 😄
This is awesome!! Thank you so much for sharing. I’d totally hike with you!
Amazing production Hayley, nice work as usual.

First great walk at 60! Hope to do them all as I’m moving to NZ in 5 years. I hope to be doing this at 80 myself as well as racing my bicycle.
Another great video. Am off to walk the Routburn track in a few weeks after watching your video of that walk. Perhaps the Milford will be next
Ooo nice!! Have a lovely time! Part of me almost wants to say I liked the Routeburn hike better but then it’s impossible to compare!

One day at a time. Once you have woken up and packed up, the hard part is over.
I was wondering if anyone was going to bring this up. haha I agree, the most challenging part getting out of your sleeping bag.
It depends, sometimes you need one day at a time, sometimes you need one step at a time :)
I so want to do this hike!!! I got onto the Jatbula trail this year - so hoping to get a booking for Milford next 🤞🤞
The Jatbula is on my list! Fingers crossed you get Milford next year! :)
♥
❤😀
Beautiful video, thanks for sharing! What month did you hike? The weather looked amazing!
Thank you! We did it in January so definitely lucked out with a taste of sun and mist! ☀️
If you love to hiking, probably indonesia would be good for you. There are so many big mountains wit amazing view
I'd love to do more international travel, thank you i'll investigate 😀

@@settohike Okay - good to know! I did the Overland in December and it still snowed then. It was so cold!!! No swimming for me :)
You look so much like Kitty Sullivan. (early 80's tv show)

I think it is allowed as I believe I have heard of a few people doing it. I'm sure you are a machine if the thought of doing that has crossed your mind! 😛
