Dude I fully get this. I had an operation just over two weeks ago to fix a small tear in my shoulder and decompress the joint. This gives pain relief and restore full range of movement. The upshot is I have to keep my dominant arm in a sling for 5 weeks.
Non of this is as painful as ribs and a punctured lung!
What I have found is that it’s stopped me riding my bike, playing drums and being able to drive. All of this is very isolating.
All of the above are the ways that I deal with depression too.
I’m feeling pretty low today and yesterday and just watched this. I won’t say I enjoyed watching it as that seems wrong. I did, however, find it affirming and it really resonated.
I think you’re right about setting goals.
I started doing a vlog a week ago to try and give myself direction. It’s hard to find content though with only myself for material 😂.
Anyway. Props for doing the video. It’s tough to talk candidly about these things. I hope you keep your chin up and may your days be full of max comfort and little to no sneezes.

Thanks for doing this video series. I am 2 weeks into broken ribs and in a lot of pain. Doctors in my area are reluctant to prescribe anything other than anti-inflammatories, and they really tear up my stomach so I gotta get off them as the stomach pain is making things worse. Really sucks. And no, your vids on this are not boring. Grateful to know how I can expect this to progress as doctors don't really give a lot of info or practical advice other than " rest." As an athlete, this is soooooo hard to do
    !

Dude, you had me cringing and feeling the pain I could see etched in to your face - took balls to make this and full respect for doing so. Many others will agree I am sure and some will benefit from the knowledge and first hand experience you are sharing.
Long journey it may be, but it is one you will complete and be back on that bike before you know it.
Sending healing vibes and best wishes for a speedy recovery all the way from sunny Egypt.

Worthwhile video/series man, and yeah recovery sucks and can be hard. Reality checks like this are important and I think a lot of viewers will learn some important things following you through this period (what can happen even on a casual ride and what to expect during a hard recovery). Healing vibes and heal up. Keep your spirits up and try remember feeling low is normal after a heavy off, and due to medication.

I had 2 fractured ribs from a ladder fall and I can understand what you are going through. The first week is the worst. It was painful just getting out of bed and going to the bathroom. The second week is better. Then after that it slowly gets better. It takes about 6 weeks total I am told to totally heal. Good luck on your recovery.

@@TheRideCompanion slow, but each passing week gets a bit better. Like you say it's the small wins, a daily poop! I get it. Great to hear your story. I have 5 fractured ribs all on my right side from rib 7-11 and a perforated lung from 6 weeks ago. The question is I think one or two have re-cracked cause I keep hearing a grinding noise when I breathe also I am more out of breath coming into the 6 weeks. Did you suffer anything like this...?

  • @eightlivesdownmtb
    @eightlivesdownmtb 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Mate. You’re all in order and certainly not in a class of one. Over the horizon you’re fine; breathing, laughing, coughing and sleeping without pain. That is a fact. I’ve done a few ribs (also eight in one go), including massive bruising to my lungs that almost stopped me breathing.
I stopped the opioids as they don’t fix anything and where I was trying to shit a week-old turd through a triple-broken pelvis was a twat I didn’t need. The senna didn’t help.
It’s OK to be hurt. It’s OK to feel like shit. But you will get better. Good on ya mate.

    Your asking for advice......edibles 😂
I've just had 4 months out after slashing a tendon then carpal
    tunnel, I'm a spark so I couldn't work.
Only advice I can give is what helped me, make a plan for everday, hour by hour if needed. Make a list of things to do and prioritise or categorise tasks. Make time for hobbies and or learning.
Personally......I stop taking medication as soon as I can, hate how they affect me physically and mentally and if the pain is being masked I'll do more harm. After my last 3 operations and double leg break I took pain killers for no more than 24 hours after the operation or injury with a few paracetamol for a few days for sleeping at night.
Plenty of the right goods and plenty vitamin d from the sun.

May I recommend, from horrible painful experience, avoiding any food that might promote gas, while on the pain meds. As for vitamins, you may also want to be sure to have a full spectrum multivitamin with the B-complex and minerals. As for zinc, it is possible to take too much, which will make you otherwise ill, so watch that. Not boring at all, be well. 💯

As a nurse my main recommendation would be to get on a high protein diet to get you on the healing path fast. I would recommend 2 fortisip compact protein a day between meals to boost your system. No matter how good your diet is it won't be enough. Get well soon and don't push yourself to hard 👊
