Did this, and yum! I have a little cheap crock pot and it worked well. I added diced sweet onions, spiced up the meat with light garlic and a few shakes of Montreal steak seasoning. Then tried something weird, I stuffed it in some refrigerated croissant dough, baked for 17min. Did have to slice up the potatoes smaller, but it was worth it!
@@Chevyman02 Nothing is ruined. The beauty of food is that you can make it to your own taste. If you don't like sour cream, don't add it. My husband doesn't like onions. I do not use them. The onions upset his stomach. No big deal.
I made this tonight! However I did it a bit different……used dehydrated sliced potatoes and soaked them in water first. Layered everything in a 2qt glass baking dish. Added 1/2 c water to soup and milk mixture. Used raw cheddar. Baked in 400 degree oven for 45 min. Was PERFECT!!!!!! This was soooo good and delicious…..I’m going to attempt it with freeze dried potatoes, beef, cheese and milk. This may turn into a fave pantry meal!
There is nothing better than meat, cheese and potatoes! Thank you for the tip of half ground beef half ground turkey. I used to always cook ground turkey with beef bouillon to get the beef flavored taste! Definitely will be trying this, but I’ll be using ground turkey with beef bouillon.
I make this in the oven! Although I season the meat and sauce as well as salt the potato layers. I forgot to salt the potatoes one time and it was extremely noticeable. The secret to an amazing sauce is 1/8 tsp curry powder(along with the other seasonings). Trust me on this one! I'm going to love making this in the slow cooker! Thanks for the idea!

Down to just us two octogenarians too and slowly learning how to cook smaller amounts….not easy after having five children and used to huge meals. Just about have it to one and a half meals so lunch the next day is leftovers.

I had one of those meat choppers you used and the handle became sticky and I threw it out. Yes I washed it every time. I started using a potato masher and it works better and easier to clean. That slicer you used.... I have the pampered chef version and have cut the tips of my fingers off a few times by not using the handler. I don't use it very much anymore. I'm going to try this meal today...Thanks
thank you very much for the recipe and giving your opinion on certain items you use, I was thinking about the mandolin . the recipe is definitely worth trying and the meat could be changed very easily on what a person feels like having. great idea with the ground beef and if a person feels like alternating to diced ham or adding spinach you can . thank you
I love that hand shredder! So easy to hand wash, too. It does more than cheese. You don't need a separate slicer for the potatoes. The hand shredder I bought years ago included a straight blade option to slice vegetables, too.
Not many people know about turning the tab of pull-top cans to help with opening them. Yes, one has to be careful of the edges in some of the smaller tougher cans but a great way to get cans open. Just thought I'd let you know I noticed how you opened the cans.
I am so glad I found this channel, subscribed and will be trying this recipe out tonight! Thank you for the fun, uplifting video and how you go over everything makes it simplistic. My only hash I have with you is if you take a look at the cheese plate you have in the video... you left SO much cheese on that plate! Haha, alright time to make this dish! :D

You can also buy the Tele milk, shredded cheese, it is really good. I’ve tried Sargento, which is good too, but Tamu is basically like freshly shredded cheese, and it doesn’t have all that weird powdery stuff that grocery brands do.
Hi you forgot either going to Olive Garden and getting one of their giant salads and breadsticks to go and they really do give you ample dressing or a nice side of fresh steamed broccoli nicely buttered. Honestly I think the salad would be more of a hit because it’s Olive Garden’s salad. Yummy
The recipe looks good, will try. As the the meat masher, a fork or a potato masher work just as well, and you don't have to go out and buy a meat masher.
Use tortilla chips instead of potatoes, add taco seasoning to the ground meat, and substitute a can of Rotel for one of the cream of mushroom soup. Tex Mex version!
I'm unable to find the link to the cheese grater you mention in the video. There are a couple on Amazon which look like the one in the video but I'd like to know which one specifically you used. Great recipe!

I’m so glad u said that about mushrooms and using diff things, since I don’t like them either 🙂

I have to add a little chopped onion, a dash of garlic powder and pepper.. This is going on my list for dinner this week. Thank you!!

I made this yesterday and there isn't one bite left! Great recipe that even my children will eat. Thanks.
So glad everyone loved it!
This looks delish! Topped with bacon, sour cream and chives would be tasty, too!
Yes, more fat is better!

@biggyrat1313 it's a figure of speech! I've heard it used for decades!
@Chevyman02 you could use plain Greek yogurt
I would have added diced onion to my ground beef for additional flavor…looks fantastic and super easy! ❤
