I love seeing this old stuff from my hometown. Someday, I will find the "I Love Lucy" promo from this station that I have been looking for.

My entire past flashed before my eyes! Worked for erol's briefly, before blockbuster took over, also met Mr. Ray at a bar one night. At first I thought he was joking, but it was him. These commercials are a blast ... and so many movies on tv then. I miss those days.

WTTG was an Independent station until 1986, when it became a full-time affiliate for the Fox network.

So did I for the weekday afternoon cartoons after school and "Big Monday", Big East Basketball especially when Georgetown was on and playing some of their home games at McDonough Arena when the Capital Centre in Landover was not available

It was until 1986 via the Metromedia network and it could be seen all the way on Maryland's Eastern Shore as well as parts of Western Maryland and the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia

Five was first a DuMont station when it on the air in 1945. The call sign (WTTG) is named in honor of Thomas Toliver Goldsmith,an engineer who worked with Allen B. Dumont. Its first studio was
the long gone Raleigh Hotel at 12th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue,
NW. In 1964, the station moved to its current studio at 5151 Wisconsin Avenue,NW. Early Five shows included, "Milt Grant Show",
"Pick Temple's Giant Ranch", "Cavalcade of Stars", "Romper Room",
"Captain Tugg","Countdown Carnival" and "Panorama". In 1956,
DuMont died and it became part of Metropolitan Broadcasting
Television, which later became Metromedia Television until
1986,when Fox Broadcasting Company bought Metromedia.
Today, you know Channel 5 as FOX 5.

November 6, 1984 is the airdate since the news promo mentions election results.

That "One O'Clock Movie" opening title looks like something WTTG's sister station WNEW (WNYW) used back in the day for their movies, maybe Movie Greats. By the way, on Election Day night, WNEW aired the movie "The End" with Burt Reynolds.

It was kind of confusing at times but if you knew which part of the area you were calling, you were set. At least Metro was somewhat cleaner and didn't breakdown as often in the 80's than it does now

Wish I could hsve acquired WKRP syndicated reruns with original music intact. Glad shout released WKRP with 90% of the music intact . It's a shame WKRP wasn't revive until 1991 but it sucked
