    Well done brother. I been a mechanic for 19 years and I still get the pre start jitters when done cam belt. Only thing on them belts I don’t do is the starter motor removal and pin in the flywheel I just mark the crank pulley and it’s always worked for me.

    Top man. Probably the most definitive “how to” on TH-cam for this. Used it to change mine yesterday. Saved myself about £500. Thanks.

    I did mine at 200,000km its now at 230,000km and no problems. No garage wanted to do it. These are great cars to work on and its videos like yours that allow people to save money and do something productive. Well done. BTW at 200,000km the old belt looked just like the new one.

      It's awesome to hear that your car is running smoothly at 230,000km after doing the work yourself. I'm glad the video could help and that you're enjoying working on your car. It's great to know the old belt held up so well too. Keep up the good work, and thanks for the support!

    Got all mine apart earlier, checked it and the writing (gates) still looks all really good. Couldn't see any worn teeth either when rotating the crank. Decided to leave it for now.

    Well done another belt sorted . One of my pet hates working on cars is stud adhesive (Locktite) I know it serves a purpose but a tight bolt is a bloody site tighter to undo with that on it. Same as a torque setting for a bolt then turn it through whatever degrees (Maximum yield stretch bolts)much rather old fashioned torque it up job done lol.

    Sound. Good on you. Be careful underneath when loosening the crankshaft bolt. Perhaps a quality impact tool would be a good thing to consider for safety's sake. I had a 2A Land rover sitting on me, and it stings a bit.!!

    my 2011 sd4 says 10 years or 105,000 miles for timing belt, the other thing that needs doing at the same time is all the transmission oils and haldex etc, the auto gearbox oil needs replacing but it requires the oil level to be measured at a certain temp so needs specialist equipment

    The water pump - Plastic impeller on a steel shaft, it's almost like they want it to fail (same design on my 2017 2.0td kuga, slipping at 81000 miles, forced a timing belt change tho so every cloud).

    Nice job but how you do it on a jaguar 2.2 diesel xf with the engine stait? It is almost inpossible to remove the startermoter. The crankshaft bolt is also difficult to undo and again torck to 70nm + 80° because these is no room for a angel gauge.

  • @montyman665
    @montyman665 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi pal well done on tackling that. Just a little tip if you got the correct locking tools you dont need to tipex etc as there locked and going nowhere but understand its a bit of insurance. Also I would not have removed the starter i would have locked the cams then paint marked the crank sprocket to the engine casing installed the belt then turned the engine twice slowly to make sure ther is no interference align the crank reinsert your cam fuel pump lockers job done just watch on some cars there are no keyway in the sprockets but this saves you loads of time and as you did always turn the engine over slow twice to make sure there is no interference you can not go wrong.Oh and I have done hundreds if not thousands of belts being a mechanic and i still have a twitchy arse moment when turning that key lol good luck keep the vids coming love them.

      One key point to note with the Ford installation (Mondeo, SMax, Galaxy) is that the RH engine mount MUST be removed to provide access. Luckily we had a second trolley jack and were able to support the engine with that - with wood to protect the sump of course. Thanks again - Rob 👍

    That looks a bit of a faff job. Think ill look at an indi garage to do it. I certainly wouldn't pay 1k though. £300 with supplied parts is about average.

      it wasn't that bad to be honest, I think at the time of filming it was that price at the dealers, most people wont touch em in my area, so good luck

    Hi Big Man. Another Epic Journey completed 👍. ps. It may of helped if you took off the coolant cap
    earlier, to release any vacuum, in the water system during coolant drain. This was a win win
    Cam belt change. Congratulations. See you in the next one. 👏👏

      I didn't try that so probably would have worked... or an air line would have done the trick thanks for the advice 👍 merry Christmas 🎅 🎄
