Good evening Mrs Soup! Fantastic film. Loved every second of it and each actor is brilliant... Telly Savalas just melts my heart. Not even been remotely tempted to watch Mamma Mia, nor do I care for ABBA songs. This is the original and best.
I heard once that when Gina Lollabridgida did this movie, she knew no English and learned all of her lines phonetically. But that can't possibly be true, - her comic delivery is perfect, Kristen Wiig couldn't have done it any better.
We love this film so much that when in Rome three years ago, we didn't do as the Romans do, but went to Ariccia, a little outside Rome, which is actually where this delightful movie was shot. We stopped and chatted to locals. NONE had heard of the film or knew that a film had been shot there and we bumped into the mayor or maybe it was the deputy mayor when I popped into the municipio to use the loo. He was delighted to meet tourists from abroad and said he had heard that years ago a movie was filmed there with Gina Lolobrigida but had no idea what it was called. Thanks for putting it up, it's the best. Delicioso.
@@ROMANABSOLUT hi, no, we walked along the little roads but nobody knew which one the house was. we saw the church, that was easily recognizable. To be honest, for good memories of the movie, watch the movie. Ariccia looks quite run down though it was a pleasant place to visit just like most Italian villages are.

It's not far from the church, maybe 200 meters away, but due to the labyrinthic street geography, it was impossible to EXACTLY locate it. Hai ragione Lilian, la penso come te. Gina Lollobrigida è un grande personaggio, con voce e fisico eccezionali. Come attrice si è costruito una carriera internazionale (pur non essendo eccezionale come attrice) tutto da sola con la sua sola grinta, un miracolo di per se stesso, non avendo nessuno dietro a spalleggiarla. In seguito è diventata una bravissima fotografa e scultrice, ce n'è di che restare sbalorditi, eppure...Alla fine ha ricevuto ovviamente meno riconoscimenti e ammirazione di chi aveva il grande vantaggio di spinte e appoggi formidabili. Ed era anche, ed è rimasta, una donna molto semplice. Di donne come Gina ce ne sono davvero poche in giro. La ammiro molto

Questo film è stato lo spunto per uno dei musical di maggior successo di sempre a Broadway. Rispetto ai film americani della Loren sono senza dubbio migliori i film hollywoodiani della Lollo ,che oltre tutto ha girato ottimi film anche in Francia e in Inghilterra,alcuni dei quali son diventati dei classici.Esempi: in Francia ha girato film come Fanfan la Tulipe,Les belles de nuit, è stata la più bella e brava Esmeralda in Notre Dame de Paris e anche Venere imperiale perchè aveva come regista Jean Dellanoy; in Inghilterra girò con Sean Connery The woman of straw, film colà molto apprezzato anche per la sua interpretazione. La Loren prese casa a Hollywood e vi rimase per anni ed anni girando film che a distanza di anni dimostrano che senza De Sica le sue capacità recitative sono evanescenti. Infatti le sue performance cinematografiche americane sono alquanto discutibili e il successo commerciale di quei film è deludente, al contrario di quelli della Lollo che in America hanno avuto un ottimo successo anche commerciale.Insomma la signora dagli oscar facilI non vale quello che ha voluto sempre far credere con l'aiuto naturalmente di pruriginosi ed interessati estimatori.
