    =============================
    Today you will be learning about the differences between the Siemens S7-300 and S7-1500 Advanced series PLCs.
    For both systems, a wide range of modules can be used according to the task at hand and a cost-effective stock of spare parts are readily available.
    Released in 2012, the SIMATIC S7-1500 is the successor of the longstanding S7-300 PLC.
    Although they are interchangeable in many situations, the S7-1500 generation integrates the latest and future-proof technologies into an automation system with enhanced system features over the S7-300.
    With the engineering system TIA Portal, the common engineering platform for all SIMATIC controllers, the SIMATIC S7-1500 is designed for fast market changes, constantly shorter product life cycles, and increasing cost pressures.
    Both the S7-300 and S7-1500 PLCs are similar in shape and size and are built around a modular, expandable design. CPUs, I/O modules and communication modules may be added as needed to a standard backplane that can be sized to fit your specific project.
    Up to 32 expansion modules can be installed with both systems, requiring only a DIN rail mount and backplane.
    The S7-1500 has a standard built-in display and keypad that allows for basic configuration and diagnostics without the need for an external screen.
    Both the S7-300 and S7-1500 series PLCs have many different configuration options that allow the optimal CPU to be selected depending on the application. Both platforms provide several CPU categories including:
    - Standard (for typical applications)
    - Compact (for applications where space and cost is a concern)
    - Fail-Safe (for fail-safe applications)
    The S7-1500 significantly increases performance over the S7-300 with a faster backplane bus, standard PROFINET interface, and shorter reaction times.
    As a result, the updated PROFINET interface provides greater reproducibility and precision in the microsecond timeframe.
    When programming for slower processes this may not make a noticeable difference in the real world, however, it can be very useful in high-speed applications such as assembly lines.
    Two Profinet ports come standard on every S7-1500 CPU although you may select additional ports and communication protocols when ordering.
    As an added bonus, you are able to configure these ports as a bridge which acts as a mini switch. This can be very convenient when linking devices and interfacing with the PLC in the field.
    With S7-300s, the desired number of ports and appropriate communication protocol must be chosen up-front.
    Prices between the S7-300 and S7-1500 are very similar between like models. If cost is a major concern, the S7-1500 compact version provides up to 70% cost savings, as well as 25% space savings compared to the standard CPUs, although some features are limited.
    There are several main factors to consider when selecting a PLC for your project. These factors are:
    - Application size,
    - Available space,
    - Communications protocols,
    - Processing performance.
    By using the Siemens website, you can select the appropriate PLC for your specific application. Here is the link to the PLC selection tool of Siemens:
    sie.ag/2GGMrkm
    In conclusion, both the S7-300 and S7-1500 PLCs are capable and proven systems, providing modular, cost-effective, and application-specific solutions to fit your needs.
    In the future, Siemens will slowly begin to phase out the S7-300 in favor of the S7-1500.
    Eventually, the S7-300s will no longer be supported, although that is still many years away. As of now the added benefits of the S7-1500 offered at a price point similar to the S7-300 make it a no-brainer to go with the updated PLC on your next project.

    2:47 Standard, compact (C), fail-safe (F) and you could add technology (T) version. Those have more motion ressources. There is also the new redundant (R) and high availability (H) S7-1500, but R and H doesn't exist in the S7-300 platform. You had to go with S7-400H "in the past".

    You are doing a very great job with your content. i have few questions to ask about S7-1214C PLC
    1. If an S7-1214 Siemens PLC has several LED indicators that can be used to verify if the
    processor is operating correctly and the Maintenance LED is flashing yellow and there is
    no memory card. What does this mean?
    2. IF An S7-1214 stopped controlling the machine. The STOP/RUN indicator is yellow and
    the ERROR LED is red. What’s wrong?
    3. A controlLogix 1756 processor has a flashing green I/O LED, ehat does this mean and ehat should you do to troubleshoot?

      Hi Adam,
      Thank you for your insightful questions. While they are excellent queries, they fall outside the scope of our current lesson platform.
      If you're experiencing issues with your LEDs flashing, there could be a variety of factors at play. Fortunately, assistance is available!
      Your local Siemens representative can offer valuable support. Siemens provides a comprehensive website and blog equipped with troubleshooting guides and technical manuals to address your needs. Much of their online troubleshooting assistance is complimentary. However, there may be charges for direct technical consultations.

      Hello Abdoulaye Fara Diaw,
      Thank you for your question. The answer to your question is maybe. Depending on how complicated your S7-300 logic is FB, OB, FC and DB blocks are, you might have to rewrite some of the logic and configure your hardware too. • @realpars
      @realpars  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In order to be able to select the Simulation button, the program you would like to download needs to be selected. Click on the PLC in the project tree. If the Start Simulation button is not selectable, try recompiling the hardware configuration and then recompile the software configuration. You should be able to start the simulation at this point.
      If not, make sure the S7-PLCSIM program is installed correctly. The best way to do this is to start the simulation program and see if it will fully boot up to the CPU status window. Also, the S7-300 series of CPU's requires S7-PLCSIM v5.4 or earlier. The latest PLCSIM programs (v12, v14, v15) only work with the S7-1200 and S7-1500 CPU's.

    So it seems like the only difference is 1ns processing time which is really not needed for 90% of the applications and the built in display. Nothing is said about the differences in programming with TIA portal and Simatic Manager. It's left open, what the price really is for a basic configuration say 64 I/O's and 8 axes for example. In my opinion it is usually the programmers skills and Know-How to determine which PLC and programming environment is selected.

    • @realpars
      @realpars  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are a number of other differences, including an expanded instruction set with the S7-1500, built-in OPC-UA support, built-in web-server, better diagnostics, auto-tuning PID, and motion control support, just to name a few. And yes, the increased CPU speed is not really a big benefit unless you are doing high-speed operations, such as packing lines or fillers. As far as programming packages, SIMATIC Manager cannot be used for the S7-1200 or S7-1500. But TIA Portal Professional can be used with any S7 CPU, making the the best choice for programming any Siemens PLC. The S7-1500 has a pretty high price tag for small systems, so for a 64-I/O system, an S7-1200 can be economical (

    I will never play along with the monopoly of Allen Bradley and Siemens, whoever wants to make these companies richer welcome, I have had projects for more than twenty years working and making upgrades with PLCs from different brands, they do the same!!! More economical!! And even in some cases, better functions such as Rest API, OPC UA, it seems like a robbery to me that just by checking a box on the portal they charge you 1000 dollars just to enable OPC UA, that's it!!
