    Hi Matthew, at what temperature do you start reduction. Also, do you add any alumina hydrate to wax when glazing lids and rims of lidded jars to prevent them from sticking together.? Love your videos!

    • @MatthewKellyPottery
      @MatthewKellyPottery  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Around 1500 and I don’t wax the rim. I find that waxing takes more time and can make names of it drips on other parts of the pot. I don’t ever have a problem with them sticking unless I have made them too tight to begin with.

    I love these new color combos, I know you use gas, does the affect change much? I use copper red also but use Stephen hills mystery magic, and it’s been kinda different. I only have access to electric kiln, which is cone 6. I don’t get to control the reduction rate (Wish I did), but my copper red is an amaco brand. Starting to think it would be bette to make and mix my own copper red. I am wondering what would change if I add more titanium dioxide or bentonite to it would help. I made a half gallon so a full batch is 1380 titanium dioxide so 1/2 gallon is 138, and bentonite full batch is 230 grams. Not sure how thick the mystery magic should be or the copper red still doing tests and had some neat affects but not what I want. First try I may have used too much mystery magic on my bowl because most of the copper red didn’t show up on the outside it ran down, and inside had some blues and purples (no red, definitely not what I wanted). But it looked amazing when it was still hot and turned pretty ugly once it cooled.

    Looks like a great firing! Beautiful colors and combinations! Did your potter friend say what percentage to substitute the Minspar for the Colemenite? I have the same problem with my red glaze. Also, I noticed you don’t use cone packs in your firings and I can’t see a temperature probe. Do you judge end-of-firing by watching the color of the atmosphere? Thanks for filming and sharing these videos!

    • @MatthewKellyPottery
      @MatthewKellyPottery  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He did but I have to ask him again. I can’t remember the percentage.

    • @MatthewKellyPottery
      @MatthewKellyPottery  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1/3 minspar 2/3 Custer

      I haven’t tested that yet but will be on my next time mixing my copper red.

    Great stuff Matthew... you call it layering glaze but is?that the same as flux?

    • @MatthewKellyPottery
      @MatthewKellyPottery  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No I just call it that. It’s a glaze that doesn’t look good on its own but interacts well with other glazes making them run more.

    The unloading was a bit dark, maybe next time try to put a lamp behind the camera, because the colors didn't show up completely.

It has such an incredible richness and sheen that is MMMMM MMMM MMMMM!! Did you have the recipe on another video? The new combo is kick ass on the jars and where you carved and in the handles, yes sir, very nice indeed. Thanks for sharing Matt
