Inside Look: American Airlines Admirals Club at DCA Concourse D

The Admirals Club is the standard lounge for American Airlines and the very first airport lounge brand. It dates back to 1939 at New York LaGuardia, established by C.R. Smith who was the airline’s first CEO. A hub for the carrier, Washington National Airport has an Admirals Club in each of the airline’s concourses. Here, I visited the one in Concourse D on a Friday morning, doing a little bit of plane spotting over breakfast and an Old Fashioned before a plane spotting trip in Atlanta.
Per AA.com, access is granted into the Admirals Club through memberships (price based on AAdvantage status), as well as OneWorld frequent flyer and credit card status, military duty and $79 day passes. This location offers amenities you’d expect, including call rooms, conference space, WiFi and charging ports. But it also has great views of the ramp, taxiways and all three runways at DCA. Situated above Terminal 2, the lounge also gives a clear shot of the National Mall and the Tidal Basin across the Potomac River in Washington, DC, anchored by the Washington Monument and the Jefferson Memorial.
