Brilliant. Now that I know what you have mapped out, time to rewatch your session!
@nonagonsf thanks for your answer.. the vci actually is released over here in europe :)
way to rock it, brotha. come back to chicago sometime
I prefer to map controllers more like traditional studio mixers than like DJ mixers. My normal performance setup is 8 channels, each of which has reverb and delay sends. This lets me do things like dub-out a single melody line with heavy reverb and delay without muddying the mix by also affecting the bass and beats. Unless you're referring to the global sends mapped to the encoders, which is more a convenience than anything else.
@weltraumpapst Unfortunately I never recieved a MIDI implementation chart, though I imagine that Vestax will make one available when the VCI-400 is actually released.
I actually wrote a utility patch in Max for Live that loops through every CC in every channel, sending every value from 0-127 in order to help quickly figure out which CCs were mapped to which LEDs on the controller. This was particularly helpful when in determining which channel / CC controlled the VU meters.
Nice creative use of the Vestax 400... I am more of a live performer myself and considering getting a controller like this. Thanks for sharing.
@iriesmiletube Everything in this video was done with Ableton Live and Max for Live.
Hej,
maybe you want to make a video-instruction, on how to setup such M4L-Patches? Would be very interesting to see, how complex it is, to made such patches … can you estimate the time, spend on the mapping of the controller at all?
awesome!! do you have some kind of sketch-up with all the midi in & out messages of all mappable controlls the vci400? cheers..
love the track and the idea of using it for ableton..
I knew it... nice work...
Interesting! Could you please tell the address of the download link for patches and device presets? I didn't find on controllerism. Thank you and keep up the great work!
👏 Wow great stuff just want to let you know almost 8,5 years later what you did here is absolutely Genuis. I admire your creativity and out of the box thinking. I'm an inspiring music producer, still saving up to buy a midi controller like a launchpad or Ableton Push but you got me thinking to do something like this in the meantime as I own a Vestax VCI-380 it doesn't have as many controls as the VCI 400 but I'm sure I can come up with some creativity. Will you please let me know if this will be possible with the VCI-380. The VCI-380 actually has better performance pads compared to the VCI-400. Unlike the plastic buttons on the VCI-400 the VCI-380 pads have that rubber feel and has a pad effects mode which make them pressure sensitive. I'm very sad that Vestax went out of business because they made awesome controllers with great build quality. I'm from Cape Town South Africa these DJ controllers are hen's teeth here and the DJ's here don't understand the value of these controllers, I got my secondhand virtually new for 190 dollars. They have loads of functionality in a small form factor and are built ruggedly compare to the DJ controllers on the market today. One last question, about the patches you were referring to in the video does it require coding knowledge to create patches or is it not that complex to create a patch. I will appreciate your feedback and I really enjoyed your video, it gets a like from me nearly 8,5 years later 👍.
thanks!!!
i think you made it more complicated .. but i really like ur choices ..
what is the software ??
where can I get firmware/drivers for this ?
Great!!
What is software?
traktor pro?
This or APC 40? If you're gonna use Ableton.
@smashcorefilms It depends a lot on how you want to use Ableton. The APC40 is built to be a physical manifestation of Live's Session View, which is great if that's the way you work and/or you want lots of faders (APC has 9 + a crossfader). The VCI-400 has more variety in the controls it provides (touch-sensitive encoders, encoders with push button action, etc), so if you have performance ideas that map more easily to those, the VCI would win.
Not a simple answer, but it's the best I've got =).
bows
y spend the time to set 2 reverbs? ur complicated in an annoying way. Only thing I would take away from this is ur beat repeat mapping to the faders, which honestly i didnt hear u use in ur video cause it sounded sad the whole time which i coudnt bare listening to & left early >_<
