I stumbled across your channel and subscribed. I live in a van yr round in Canada and can relate to the cold temps , woke up to my water frozen this morning , 22 below zero last night . We are either bad ass or nuts to live this life style , I'll go with bad ass . I put hot water bottles in my downfill duvets everynight so its cozy when I shut down the heat and climb in bed . I wouldn't change my way of life for anything ! Look forward to your up coming videos

I went to the primary school next door, we love the area... spent the night there in August, it was heaving.. but it was worth it because it was the night before my 60th, we were meeting up with family in Helensburgh.. yes it is cold in the winter but it is so worth it, it is so much quieter.

Thermal undies and mixture of silk and wool sweaters (not acrylic!) and you will require minimal heating. I suspect Elli's age might mean the insulation isn't up to standard - particularly under floor and roof. I wonder if some thermal covers for the windows and vents might help? Looking forward to seeing the vid on Lomond Lodges - driven past there so often and wondered what they are like. Liked your cheffery turn, Cam - vegan bacon was a revalation that only recently entered my own menu and I was surprised to find such differences between them. Rug up and courie in you two!!! YAM xx

No1 get a good thick blanket to isolate the cab from the motorhome it's the coldest part of the motorhome. No2 get some window draft proofing and put it round your skylight, no3 when you put your blind's down always put the fly net down before you put the blind's down it helps with drafs,no4 condensation on the windows just put up with it. Better on the windows because if it isn't on the windows it will fined the next cold place probably wear you don't find till the mold.

    • @highlands2hammocks

I hope this doesn't offend you!! After watching you two, the first time I was singing the chorus "Bonnie Banks o' Lock Lomond." I only remember the chorus anymore. I learned that song when I was a kid. I have some Scottish ancestors, and my Dad loved the song!! You were going alongside the Loch of Loch Lomond. I think I got the spelling right. Sorry if I didn't. I don't know if that's from Scotland or not, but I like the some allot! It reminds me of my Dad.

Congrats on the book!! I enjoy reading books on people's travels, I would like to know if you have some details of the history of the places you were? My travels are limited to watching videos like these on travels, and taking virtual tours of historical places. It's been over 30+ since I was able to visit Scotland/Ireland and England. 3 months, roughly a month in each place. Interestingly enough, we did not go to the "touristy" spots, but chose to go to places the locals recommended. Berwickshire was spectacular!! Thank you for sharing your travels, this old man here loves it!!

Would absolutely suggest that you buy a load of thermal curtain lining. Line all of your curtains and close them as it gets dark. Get thick foam, cut it slightly bigger than the roof lights and cover these foam roof light blockers with thermal material. Heat rises so I'd keep these in place through out winter. If storage for these is an issue then you could use reflectex instead. Might also suggest long curtains of thermal liner on tension rods across your habitation door and across the cab area, the cabs are never very well insulated, so by isolating it you are not heating an area through which heat is lost.

I listen to these with (in ear) air pods... He speaks in a normal voice and she speaks so softly. And then the music's loud sometimes and sometimes it's not. And then when the storage compartment slam shut.
It's the up and down of the loud volumes versus The whispers that kill me. I can't maintain a consistent volume level without straining to hear or panicking to turn it down because it's so loud.
I love these videos but I wish the volume was more consistent.

Second if you find a narrowboat vlog by Foxes Afloat, they travel around England, but at the moment they are in Scotland. You will see what life is like on a narrowboat. @@highlands2hammocks Highly recommend a diesel heater. We're sitting in our van watching you freeze and taking off our jumpers because we're too hot, and it's on the lowest setting. QC on the Chinese imports can be a bit hit and miss, however, we've had ours for a couple of years without any issues. If you are ever in the West Country I'd be more than happy to help with installation. Good luck and congrats on the book, looks awesome.

You luckey two getting a week out your gas bottle in winter . We just manage three days per bottle with our truma heater.
People say get a diesel heater which are great but I can not live with the clicking and you need a mega battery bank to run for ant length of time.
We did NC500 earlier in 2021 and stayed at the Kelpies on way and was £5 overnight for motorhomes . Must have changed since then , might be a summer thing .Mind you did get a coffee included from kiosk.
The advantage of winter vanlife is that you do not have to winterise your van and keep a electric radiator and dehumidifier running 24/7 for 4 months. I bet that will cost more this year like your diesel. Enjoy your adventures.

    • @highlands2hammocks
      @highlands2hammocks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah we try to use it as little as possible haha don’t run it over night and try to use cafes instead during the day for when we are working 😊 it sure is a major cost during the winter!

First time I've seen your video, I'm from midlands,Absolutely love Scotland. I've just retired and want to buy a vehicle to live in and travel around Scotland. Now some people say don't get a big vehicle as you won't behable to travel all Scotland. I notice your vehicle isn't little. So have you had any difficulty with country roads. I also would be interested in buying your book. Thankyou for sharing your experience. ❤

Hi Sheila 😁 aww that sounds fantastic! As we live and work in our van full time, the space and comfort was very important to us. There are a lot of narrow roads in Scotland but we have managed fine in our van. There are often alternative routes for those that are not suitable for motorhomes too 😊 you can purchase our book on our website which is highlands2hammocks.co.uk 😊 thank you for your support and happy travels ❤️

Another fab video, thanks for showing The Kelpies as I have never seen them but they look so impressive and huge! How strange that the NT signposting for the Dunmore Pineapple wasn't better, I would imagine it would be lovely in Spring and Summer for picnics and dog walking there. Hope you got away from the storm and have stayed safe, warm and dry. Here in the North West where I am we have taken a battering, some of the glass in my greenhouse broke and my late dad's wishing well water feature with cast iron was knocked on it's side as never before. Love your meals and it's the kind of thing I do is make without measuring and one way or the other it works out. Looking forward to receiving the book. Take care and keep making memories. 😄
