  • The Honda Nighthawk S or CB700SC is one of my favourite motorcycles of all time and I would say one of the best motorcycles ever built.
    This is a ride out in South Yorkshire and Derbyshire with some more modern companions.
    there are 2 Vstrom 650's a Yamaha Super Tenere and a Cagiva Navigator
    Lots of rough single track roads on a cold, damp, wintery day.
    The sound of the Nighthawk S is totally addictive.
    Every time you open the throttle you simply can't help smiling.
    All a very happy accident.
    If the USA had not put the increased import tariffs on 750cc and above motorcycles Honda would never have redesigned the crank.
    Putting a shorter throw crank into the existing 750cc air cooled engine transformed it completely. The 700cc version revved out quicker to a ridiculous red line and actually produced significantly more power than the original 750cc version.
    It set the trend for oversquare engines that still persists to this day.

    It's so good to hear great commentary and sounds of engines that take us back to those years, that atmosphere. In the 1980s, I was a teenager and these motorcycles were an unattainable dream. Today I'm riding Nighthawk 650 and I'm smiling. This motorcycle should be prescribed by doctors!

      I bought my nighthawk for £200 it had sat for a while but when I seen it new the potential the bike had, oil plugs fuel and started right up never really had many problems with this sc700 only problem was finding original indicators but love this bike 👍 so glad I seen your video just confirms what others see in this classic motorcycle ✌️✌️

    I always liked the Nighthawk S and wish I had gotten one years ago when they were popular and newer.

      i love it mate and hope itll be back on the road again this year, i have some difficult choices though, i really do need to clear some out, and the Laverda and Nighthawk are arguing about it :-)

    Had THREE. Miss them A Lot. Also had a collection of V4 Interceptors. If I found a CLEAN one of either, ‘I’d write the check’. In 2024, parts availability would be Only concern for the “S”.

    If you had it running thru a 4 into 1 Supertrapp, youd be... Speechless!! Thats what mine has. If Hinda really wanted people to get back into Street biking. Bring 5his back out, theyd crap at the success it would have! Great vid.

      great bikes, Mine is a 4 into one Dunstall design, the pipework inside that Mega is like a trumpet lol. Sounds like a VFR400 on steroids (or as once described as an angry nest of Hornets in a megaphone ) 🙂 Cheers for watching mate. Ride Free 🙂

    I had an 84 CB650 SC nighthawk 4 valve model for a few years, a US import. Great great bike, super comfy, really quick, showed up 600 bandits and kept with 1200's. With a 16 inch rear I could literally drift the back end. Why did I get rid of it because the charging system was rubbish. It had an exictor alternator that didn't start to charge until 3500rpm and would draw 5 amps out the battery which was no good for commuting around London but perfect for those long roads in the US.

    It appears you have a Nighthawk of the '83 -'85 vintage, I have a '85 CB 650cs Nighthawk, how does it compare? They are cheap to buy here, and in my mind underrated. All those features for
    the time are unbelievable. I got my 650 for $1895 USD with 13 thosand miles on the odometer in May 2022. Only big problem I've had is having to rebuild the carbs, thanks to our gas being contaminated with 10% ethanol in Calif.

    • @barebonesmc
      @barebonesmc  ปีที่แล้ว

      yep, same problems with fuel on all the old bikes. i bought an ultrasonic cleaner lol, the 650 is softer and more gentle, single cam engine if its the one i think, the 700 is just a rev monster lol :-) Cheers for watching mate, ride free :-)

      Hi, thanks for the comment. The 83-85 650's are DOHC, and quite fast for their time period. I think you were referring to the '82 650, it was a SOHC. BTW, the DOHC 650 redline is 10 thousand.

      @@johnlambert3273 dont think we got that one in the uk then, the one we had was a single cam with the old CB650 engine in, next came the CBX750 and the F2's, cant remember a 650 twin cam engine at all over here but ive been wrong before lol

    Hi there BareBones... was this bike a keeper then or have you sold it? (..or do you want to sell it!)

    • @barebonesmc
      @barebonesmc  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      ive still got it, its just about to go back on the road and next year becomes tax and MOT exempt, on one level, i cant imagine selling it, but i am thinning them out, and the end goal is 1 donkey (the Vstrom) 1 dirt bike (the pegaso maybe will fill that role) and 1 classic, which means either the Nighthawk or the Laverda will go at some point. final decision not made yet to be totally honest. ive put more work into the Laverda than any bike i have ever had, it was ressurected from a pile of oily boxes into what it is like now. but the Nighthawk is special 🙂

      @@barebonesmc In a strange kind of way I had wished that you already sold it; maybe it is the inner Scrooge within me that feels my wallet might just open - I have already scoured ebay looking for an original 4into2 exhaust system!
      I didn't quite take-to the UK versions of the old nighthawk; comstar wheels, 4into4, and the 650 engine that I believe had the ancient sohc motor(??) The latter one like yours I think are all US imports (hence the 700cc).. but that style really did it for me, along with the tech specs including those self adjusting valves from our home market CBX750f circa 1984 - now it is becoming mot/tax exempt (plus the low maintenance) they are a very tempting prostpect!
      Coming back down to earth the reality is I need to make more space, which isn't at a premium now I have found the delights of atv/quads.
      After watching your vids, and the amount of track time you have done at our beloved circuit, I guess it isn't beyond the realm of possibilities that I might see you at Willingham one of these days!

    • @barebonesmc
      @barebonesmc  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MrStr8den it is a very different beast to the one we got, the closest we got was the CBX750, but it missed on the shaft and the longer stroke engine made it pick up slower too. the 700 is a masterpiece in many ways, and yes, the LOOK is what singles it out too. what is at Willingham? Cambridge area not really my stomping ground, but i like to explore 🙂 mine has a Dunstall 4 into 1, but its getting a bit old now lol, i may try and sand blast it to refinish it again because the sound is wonderful. open or packed. the original 4 into 2 does come up occasionally but not often. i do have a pile of parts to go with it too 🙂 but i wont be selling it yet so your wallet is safe for now lol maybe next year 🙂 ride free my friend

      @@barebonesmc If I'm not mistaken quite a number of your videos where you are talking were shot from the riders perspective lapping around Cadwell Park, leading me to think that you're are based in lincolnshire. Willingham Woods is just outside Market Rasen where a popular bike-meet gathers every Sunday. I don't religiously go there, but if you do manage to get yourself there in roughly know what bike to look out for. Btw, at present I'm riding a Chris Pfeiffer rep bmw800r!
