    Cant thank you enough!. I fixed an extremely loud squeaking sound on cold start by watching this video. I did not change the belt but just tightened it using the tensioner. Great camera angles, very clear explanation really helped. My car is a 1999 accord..

    Excellent stuff. I just changed my belts and it is perfect (Honda Accord 2002). I used a bit of 10wd40 on all the bolts before I loosened as some were stuck... seemed to do the trick. Thanks for the step by step and tool list especially!

    Thanks you so much for the video! Mechanics put the wrong size belt on mine so now I'm going to replace with OEM part myself to stop it from squealing at start ups. Bob Blarney's comment has a great tip of not using a pry bar, but rather, use the provided 1/2" square hole pointed to the left/ passenger side at the top of power steering pump and use a breaker bar or ratchet to tension the belt. Much better leverage and no denting scratching surrounding parts!

    Nice video. All this time I thought my Honda had one belt. I see that it has two now. But I have never had the belts changed. So the other day I sprayed "belt conditioner" on them and now my belts make this strange noise. I read that the belt conditioner can also mess it up too. I should've left well enough alone.
    But I think I will change the belts anyway since I never have.

    • @NutzAboutBolts
      @NutzAboutBolts  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thurm101 Belt conditioner only last for a while before the lubricate dry's up... But I would never use anything on the belt since they're suppose to be dry and when the belt do squeal, that's a sign that its your belt that is going bad.

    This video seems very well done, I had both belts break entirely on my 1991 Accord LX, and I'm assuming the engines are similar just based on where the pulleys sit. Is there any huge difference between the 1991 and this model?

  • @Anguilla2001
    @Anguilla2001 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    How can you determine the correct tension for the belts? Would a torque wrench help? I'm afraid without experience I would leave it too tight or too loose and either burn the alternator or the belts would wear out too fast.

    • @Eckster
      @Eckster 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In this case it's simply tightening the power steering back into place, basically you don't directly tighten or loosen the belt, you just tighten the other component into place and it's already in the right position for ideal tension.

    Changed my Alternator belt, no more squeak on cold start.
    My issue though is after putting the power steering belt back on it's insanely difficult to turn the steering wheel. Maybe my belt is too tight or too loose?
    Think I'll have to take it to the mechanic tomorrow, at least the alternator squeal seems fixed.

    • @NutzAboutBolts

      @@NutzAboutBolts Thanks for the quick reply. I'll try that. It's really tight already it seems but maybe I just gotta throw more elbow grease in there.

      After putting the power steering belt back on, the belt's chirping, as well as my power steering is insanely tight. When I turn the steering wheel in park for example the pulley seizes & stops spinning.

    • @NutzAboutBolts
      @NutzAboutBolts  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you have AC for your car, there will be an extra pulley so the belt will need to be longer, if you don’t have AC, then your vehicle don’t have the compressor AC pulley for the belt, so it’ll be shorter. Hope that helps.

      @Ottonic6 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I went outside right after watching your video and did the job. It's a little tricky, but with a little twisting and turning I got the belts on. I just thought I'd mention. there is a 1/2 in insertion hole on the top of the Power steering pump to fit a breaker bar for tensioning and I thought I could use my 1/2 in. Craftsman ratchet (don't have a breaker bar), but the head was too big to get in there. I suppose with a short extension I could have used it, but didn't have one, so I used your method and pried it to get tension. Anyway, thanks again.

    First this applies to 4 cylinder Honda for that time frame, the v6 models have one serpentine belt which powers alternator and power steering. Second this isn't your drive belt, it's your belts for power steering and alternator. Not your engine's drive belt which is much more complexed and cost much more.

    • @NutzAboutBolts
      @NutzAboutBolts  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vangundy ch I think you’re confused, the one that drives the cam, water pump and crank pulleys are called timing belt, some have the timing chain.This one is called drive belts since there’s 2 belts driving the pulleys, the one belt that drives all the pulleys are called serpentine belt.

      +ChronicOnMyBrain there's a 3/8 hole on the power steering pump pulley to pull the tension up so that you can tighten the bolt in if you don't have a pry bar.

      +Hunter Hoskins they should have a similar set up if it's the older model. I believe the newer model uses a serpentine belt and not drive belts.

    I have replaced both belts, power steering pump and it is still making a rattling noise like something is loose, can anyone help me figure this out?? I do have the power steering fluid up to the top line so I'm not sure what's going on. Any ideas??

    • @NutzAboutBolts
      @NutzAboutBolts  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the noise wasn't there before, then recheck your work, could be the belt isn't tight enough.

    today i decided to go to the mosque to perform Al-Fajr prayer , with my first 100 Meters suddenly all the red lights on the dashboard started , i stopped the car and found a cat stuck in there , the AC and charger belt was taken off , i found a sharp blade in the car and i started cutting off the belt to rescue the cat , i used the jack handle to pull the wires and the hoses away , finally it comes out with some hurts in feet with no broken bones :( i feel sorry for those cats and i hate them in the same time

    • @NutzAboutBolts

      change the fluids first since its cheaper to do it, if nothing change, then change the pump next. There could be air in the power steering system.

      we used the pry bar to remove slack from the drive belt. You can also use a 3/8 ratchet on the alternator slot on top as well to remove slack on the drive belt.
