- Mikhail Baryshnikov in a number from the Rodgers - Hammerstein Broadway musical "Oklahoma!".
From the 1980 TV show "Baryshnikov on Broadway - with Liza Minnelli".
Subtitled in Norwegian.
Can't help loving Baryshnikov - and he was so right for not doing ONLY classical ballet. He's bursting with buoyancy, exuberance and powerful energy like a fountain. He usually overshadows everyone around him.
That's SUZANNE WALKER dancing the big solo with Baryshnikov! I knew her a few years after this production as a very talented modern/jazz dance teacher at Wright State University, in Dayton, Ohio in the mid-1980's. We did a few dance concerts together. She also co-choreographed a production of HAIR that I was in at the university in 1986. This lady is a REAL TALENT.
I was lucky enough to be mentored by Suzanne Walker during my years as a dance major at Wright State University, 1980-1984. Her skills, technique, choreography, and performances are flawless! She is an awesome individual. And I was lucky to perform with TheRootsMan as well!
Ой, Барышников... Он как Чудо... с большой буквы... и сколько работы во всём. Брызжет энергия, жизнерадостность и обаяние.
THE FIRST TIME SAW HIM LIVE WAS IN 1975,WAS IN FLORENCE ,GISELLE WITH REMARKABLE CARLA FRACCI,WOOOW
@TheRootsMan I had Suzanne as a guest teacher yesterday, she is wonderful
👣👣👣👣👣👣 Amazing dancer 💌.
A total-pro, showing all would-be contenders just how the BEST does it! ------WolfSky9
Major Correction: OKLAHOMA! was NOT the first show to advance the story with ballet. Nearly a decade before OKLAHOMA!'
George Ballanchine did it in ON YOUR TOES -another show with a Rodgers score.
sei un figo pauroso!!!!
These clips are great- what sequence should they be watched in?
1:52 is too funny! They jump up in the air together, and then she comes down.... and he's still flying and then he comes down. She's not quite up to his technique (not that I am bashing her - I mean: how could she be?).
Lawrence Welk dancers - ha ha. Well the women anyway. Not the best venue for our favourite Russian's tecnhique.
@mayaboldyrlol Not to speak of his technique... :)
He was always the pirouette king with impeccable balance. But the Grace and hangtime of his leaps are out of place here. Too lofty . Everyone is back on the ground and he's still in the air. 😄
