He never does a song the same twice. Always into it. What ever flows. A Legend he is.
That's the JAZZ in BROTHER RAY'S SOUL.
he always said that lord bless his soul he's gone now
Facts u gonna get some twist
Mr. Charles is an American Hero for many reasons. His incredible talent being only one of them. I can imagine how much brighter Heaven got when his smile walked through the Pearly Gates.
The 37 dislikes are probably young punks who just don't know how to appreciate sweet sounding awesome music.
You give them too much credit. Trolls.
people with differing opinions are now trolls. Well done...
Joe G Definitely
Fucking withe trash alway talking shit
Hey old man i like this too
I love that He is so emotional and passionate about it. He even chuckles in the middle because he enjoys what he's doing. Forever Ray Charles
i bet im the only person here commenting thats from georgia...our state is the best its so incredibly beautiful...always have and always will live in georgia
Sometime in the mid 1960's, The Central Park Band Shell - Backstage, late night. The band had just finished up, and the star of this show..Ray Charles ended his marvelous gig, (as he often did), with the achingly lovely ballad, "Georgia on my Mind". He was backstage (we were doing a photo shoot for a local paper and had a superb view of everything). Well, as the applause grew and crescendoed, Ray stopped... touched the arm of the person who was walking him down the back stairs. He was wearing a deep red jacket. He threw his head back, smiled from ear to ear and just stood there, 'drinking' in the appreciative shouts and clapping. A moment I recall clear as a bell: close to fifty years on. I shall never, ever forget it. RIP Brother Ray!!
I imagine what the world looks like at your time ??
You recounting of your Ray moment in Central Park is a classic. What an image and it has me rocking-Ray. Thanks so much, Cynthia!
Fondly remembered, humanity will never forget as long as we walk this earth.
I'm a jazz bass player. No matter where, no matter when, if the group plays this tune, everyone stops, listens, and comments how much they love it !!
What a compliment to Ray Charles !!
The Man. The Music. The Legend.
Ray Charles masterpiece forever
He was a genius, he was an evidence that the obstacles are in the mind, his mother said hin "you can be a blind but you never benn a handicapped" in these moment was born the bigest legen in the blues musico
Here is a man who lived for the music. It is truly a beautiful thing.
Right on, bro....and the 18 'dislikes' haven't a clue and don't have Georgia on their mind, nor anything else it appears....so sad. Let's dedicate this song to them, shall we?
I was born in GA, now I moved to Singapore. even tho Im not 100% american, this song means a lot to me *tears*
I grew up in Massachusetts. 22 years. Then moved to Georgia fir several years before leaving. Now and for the rest of my life a piece of my will always long to be back in Georgia. Hence why I lovce this song.
It's a beautiful thing to hear a musician just "sit" in his music, and enjoy it. Not rush or feel the need to alter it to make an audience comfortable with what's now the "Radio 3:30". Songs by such truly passionate artists as this don't really start getting "goooood" until 3:30...and then to see it through to the SONG's end, but still not carry it a second too long is absolutely art within itself.
im only 27,but man does this stop me in my tracks everytime, gotta respect Ray
this is actually really powerful. a black man singing a tribute to a state that, well, come on people, but there's so much deep love there. wow. lovely.
Watch the movie "Ray," he came off the plane in Georgia for a concert, was made to understand no black person would be allowed into the 'white only' concert hall and immediately returned home. He was sued and banned from ever performing or even returning to Georgia. This song is a subtle protest. He was posthumously awarded by the state of Georgia.
the song was wrriten about a girl named georgia by hoagy carmichael
This man felt the music more than anyone ever has and ever will.
That's what makes him such an excellent musician, and gives him such a fantastic stage presence.
Agh.
Why was I not born earlier so as to see him in person? ;_;
This man is maybe the greatest musical mind ever Idk if any1can ever make music that classical smooth and brilliant all combined in 1
music like this makes you travel to another place ...make me forget everything bad is happening, and becames a moment of joy and happiness...thank you ray charles
Ray Charles certainly brings a song home. An irreplaceable gift.
you have to ask yourself if Ray Charles would be as famous as he is if he wasn't blind. And i say HELL YES. absolutely amazing man.
Why I'm crying listening this ? (From France)
@cameron251 after I graduate college, I'm moving to Georgia, not only cause of Ray Charles, and Gone With The Wind, but of the scenery, and the beauty of the land.
I missed his last performance at San Diego's Humphreys by the Bay. A loss I'll never get over.
I've been struck by the Ray Charles bug. Fuck. Young people need to listen to this.
svuu done!
Ive just recently like fully gotten into his music and its making me want to play and sing blues/soul
svuu i listen to this 3 years later im 18
svuu my bad 4* years later!
Everybody needs to listen to rhis
I've never even BEEN to Georgia but this man makes me want to. He was the epitome of soul.
Had the pleasure of seeing Ray live and let me tell you I felt the energy in the auditorium.
Ray was a real showman,a crowd pleasure and when Ray got going that old right leg of his was flying all over the place. R.I.P. Ray!
In different walks of life we are privileged with gifted and talented people. There will only be one Ray Charles ad we were blessed by his talent. He lives on in his music.
I'll alway respect Ray Charles, I'll meet him in person back in 1976. Greatest singer of all times, in my book. R.I.P. Ray Charles
Undying legend... Wish I was born when he started singing...
I WISH I could be HALF the MAN of Ray Charles!
So much soul! God I love how TH-cam let's be experience live music from even lifetimes before my birth. Whether it's Ray, Jimi Hendrix, or otherwise. The Internet age is a blessing, and so is the musicians who left us these treasures

He was given a gift for sure.
My jazz teacher always used this song to explain music theory to the people in the class who were beginners.
I am from Georgia and Georgia is on my mind.
Where else but in America can a blind black kid hooked on Heroin grow up to become one of the greatest recording artists in history? No Where else that where! He made millions of dollars and was worth every penny of it.
If he was a kid hooked on cocaine he would never have made it. Cocaine is introduced after the money starts rolling in and the entourage begin to tussle for their piece of the pie. That's how it works in the industry. This song had a lot to do with how white America treated him like criminal.
Buck T that's why America is the best country on earth!! For blacks, women, white, asian, Latino, gays, and the whole bunch. God bless America.
Am I though?
Robert Matthews That is certainly the joke of the century 😂
Buck T hewasa great pianoist
One of the finest musicians and treats of my life was seeing Ray Charles play in Atlanta Ga back in the early 70's.
Today, Georgia on my mind... !
this song SHOULD NOT have any dislikes.
love this song
I love just how much creativity musicians expressed back in the day. The soul and sincerity are nowhere to be found these days. RIP Brother Ray.
Love you, Ray Charles!!!! You've touched so many hearts!!!! You are sorely missed !!. Then, there are these great videos that make us feel you're still here!!!
Thanks for posting!!!
Ray was always off the chain!
Good Lord have mercy was that man Ever blessed with talent! RIP Ray Charles! You have given more to this world, than it deserves!🙏❤👏
Everytime I hear this song it makes me think of losing and missing "YOU" mama, sweet woman of my whole lifetime through, oh how I truly miss and will always love youuu! Helen Ruth Norwood Fortson. Ray Charles thanks for such a beautiful and amazing song.
Just knew how to Interperate music. Loved the way he made them alive.
we will never forget this big legend of soul,,music todays sucks
more than that. Everytime my grandpa hears me listening to him he tells me to turn the volume up and he starts singing and crying. I do too.
Music Music Music...he absolutely brings it on this version..still hard to believe that he and his ilk are gone.
BRILLIANT!!!!
My favourite Ray Charles Robinson song, also my singing nemesis
Was watching "Ray" today...had to come take a listen to the real thing. Breathtaking. And speechless by such divinely bestowed talent. Seriously unreal.
Happy Birthday Georgia, this song was made for you......

A National Treasure. God bless you, Ray Charles.
Not sure there will ever be a better vocalist...There is a piece of his soul in every word he utters...You can hear it...More importantly, you can feel it...There's none better for my taste

God, that's One of da best Songs, i have ever heard.
you know a song is good when 30 seconds in, you got goosebumps...
there's just something about this rendition... ya know? it's like he's singing for your pain and for the pain we all sometimes feel... this really moves me.
the best songg ever i most cry by this video
In respect with the person that I care and admire all my life. Rest in peace my friend.... His still in my heart my friend ray Charles we grow up together.
This is my song, i love jazzy slow songs like this. Amazing just magnificent
To those wondering what he is saying at the end of the song...he goes into "speaking in tongues". It is a pentecostal gift that some Christians practice. Sometimes one may feel God's presence so strongly that gift bubbles up out of said person. I will not argue with anyone on this, simply responding to the two questions I saw. What you believe is fine with me.
Dad. This is for the wonderful times we had😊😊
that people that disliked were georgia cops of 1967
I really like this song, which I remember every listen to this song was when I was with my dad went on his way to Bandung and we always sang his song "GEORGIA ON MY MIND_Frm RC" May my father be happy in Heaven, I miss you dad
