    Mr. Charles is an American Hero for many reasons. His incredible talent being only one of them. I can imagine how much brighter Heaven got when his smile walked through the Pearly Gates.

    Sometime in the mid 1960's, The Central Park Band Shell - Backstage, late night. The band had just finished up, and the star of this show..Ray Charles ended his marvelous gig, (as he often did), with the achingly lovely ballad, "Georgia on my Mind". He was backstage (we were doing a photo shoot for a local paper and had a superb view of everything). Well, as the applause grew and crescendoed, Ray stopped... touched the arm of the person who was walking him down the back stairs. He was wearing a deep red jacket. He threw his head back, smiled from ear to ear and just stood there, 'drinking' in the appreciative shouts and clapping. A moment I recall clear as a bell: close to fifty years on. I shall never, ever forget it. RIP Brother Ray!!

    It's a beautiful thing to hear a musician just "sit" in his music, and enjoy it. Not rush or feel the need to alter it to make an audience comfortable with what's now the "Radio 3:30". Songs by such truly passionate artists as this don't really start getting "goooood" until 3:30...and then to see it through to the SONG's end, but still not carry it a second too long is absolutely art within itself.

    this is actually really powerful. a black man singing a tribute to a state that, well, come on people, but there's so much deep love there. wow. lovely.

    • @franklinsamuels9255
      @franklinsamuels9255 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Watch the movie "Ray," he came off the plane in Georgia for a concert, was made to understand no black person would be allowed into the 'white only' concert hall and immediately returned home. He was sued and banned from ever performing or even returning to Georgia. This song is a subtle protest. He was posthumously awarded by the state of Georgia.

    Where else but in America can a blind black kid hooked on Heroin grow up to become one of the greatest recording artists in history? No Where else that where! He made millions of dollars and was worth every penny of it.

    • @franklinsamuels9255
      @franklinsamuels9255 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If he was a kid hooked on cocaine he would never have made it. Cocaine is introduced after the money starts rolling in and the entourage begin to tussle for their piece of the pie. That's how it works in the industry. This song had a lot to do with how white America treated him like criminal.

    To those wondering what he is saying at the end of the song...he goes into "speaking in tongues". It is a pentecostal gift that some Christians practice. Sometimes one may feel God's presence so strongly that gift bubbles up out of said person. I will not argue with anyone on this, simply responding to the two questions I saw. What you believe is fine with me.
