The thing I like most about Mr. Pike here is that it seems to me, that despite being who knows where, playing music for decades at this point, he still seems as excited as a 17 yr old to go through and explain his pedals and aspects of his show. Dude’s never had a top ten hit or “F@#’ you money” (from his music’s earnings anyways, not that he hasn’t done well making a career for himself). You can tell he does this for his love of music…that, kids, is called hard work and integrity. I know it’s a cliche but there’s a reason for that: love what you do and you’ll never work a day in your life.
I love this band and Matt Pike! He seems to have no noise gate?? Lol 😂 😂 And his delay and modulation are in direct (no fx loop)? Thx for your answers 😎
I wonder if he hit the microphones too hard and that is why the audio is garbage. I listen on my surround sound and it sounded muffled and turned down.
Premier Guitar must not have listened to this video edit before posting it. Maybe it happened on TH-cams end. This pedalboard video is the second half of the Matt Pike rig rundown linked to below. The guitar sound is fine in that original video. Enjoy. th-cam.com/video/klzLb0Bh5x0/w-d-xo.html
Crazy idea maybe, but what if the guys of Premier Guitar brought someone along with them to properly record all of this so that you could actually hear what it's supposed to sound like? I think that would make a great show!
@@scottallen9556 what is your problem? There were one of a kind pedals made specifically for him that he will never recover. What kind of services have you supplied to humanity? Cause spreading vitriol towards an artist because you don't like his tone in a YT vid makes me think you haven't done shit... His tone moves mountains live, nothing compares
Seems like the guitar sound is much better in the original rig rundown which contains this segment. It must have been an editing setting or something on TH-cam's end. The guitar sounds like a slow AGC is squashing it here. Original rig rundown with apparently better guitar sound. th-cam.com/video/klzLb0Bh5x0/w-d-xo.html
Maybe it’s just because I don’t understand the allure of his tone, and although I dig his genuine passion for it, this is one of the worst rig rundowns I’ve ever watched.
I'm into effects, but have to say that this is indulgent to the point of silliness.Like his ego and competive nature have run amuck. With signal chains, it's always a good idea to keep it as short and simple AS POSSIBLE. The thing with live rigs,- and the bigger the venue and sound system, the more the case,- is that most subtleties are lost, so it makes little difference if you're using a expensive Strymon, or a budget Boss; all that really matters are the amps themselves, and how and if the signal is separated and channeled.Very different from the bedroom or studio, which I think is lost on many home players. It's impossible to tell, given the poor recording, WHAT is happening here; there are many of the SAME effect,- basically mid focused Drives and short delays,- with a few( likely courtesy)" noise makers" thrown in for momentary "colors".If the idea of having pedals is to broaden and expand the tonal and structural palette, the most you can say here is that he tried as many possible hues of the same shade. But then, I don't really know their music.I will check it out.
Gotta admit, trimming down is sometimes pretty therapeutic. Less shit to worry about. At one point I had 3 drive pedals, which each had different eq and dirt levels, but nobody in a crowd notices that stuff, just more to carry

The look of pure sonic bliss on the interviewer is so amazing.
Edit: Matt’s sound is super physical, you feel it as much as you hear it.
Couldn't agree more!
Every time I watch a rig rundown with Matt Pike I feel like I knew more about his rig before than I do afterwards. Bless him; he's one of a kind.
Dat sustain. Dude's playing a stringed didgeridoo
That dopesmoker riff! Just in time for 4/20
Also, glad Chris mentions The Botanist. Love that track
I've seen them live last year now, man it was intense, SLEEP rules !
Matt looks good! Rock on man! Hope to see these guys when this is all over.
Authoritarians never give back what they have taken. RIP the constitution
BEASTLY tone. The King of Mids.
3:17 is my favorite part
The Stuff Mike Does I’ve never seen Chris’s eyes go so wide, but then again I’d probably have the same reaction as well
I am guessing it is loud. Even by rig rundown standards.
Plus it probably sounded really cool.
all hail the king of all riffs.

3:08 brain goes into space and 1000 years are lived between each blink of the eye in an alternative universe
Now we need to see Al's bass rig
I love how squashed the sound is when we listen to the amps/pedals! DAMN!

i can only imagine that in person this sounded amazing, but the audio for this segment sounds like trash
I wonder if he hit the microphones too hard and that is why the audio is garbage. I listen on my surround sound and it sounded muffled and turned down.
We had one SM57 and he had 5 amps and 8 cabs ... we did our best.
Yeah there’s no way most microphones can take this abuse.
@@premierguitar you guys are great. Love the show.

The only thing that I was waiting for once this aired was Als Rig Rundown but I guess he declined on that one
Sadly he did...
Anybody know what boots he’s wearing
I bet this was a nightmare for the sound guys
Long live!
Love it

Mario Driessen It sounded precisely the way it was supposed to sound: God-awful!!
the sustain was the dopesmoker sound
"rabid mamMAL"
m'Mahl
nice
THAT 12FRET IS SMOKIN' MAN¡¡¡¡
Lol dudes a total gear maniac like me
This pedalboard got stolen shortly after this was filmed
That sucks :(
Just read that Delta Airlines refused to pay him back.
That is awful
I fucking hate Delta so goddamn much.
Seth DeWitt Someone heard this rundown and viewed that as a service to humanity.

His favourite pedal is the WHAMMY!!!

FUUUUUCK! I thought this was new and had his new board... at least they cut down the hum a weee bit...

this. and all the comments are hating on it here, while everybody loves it in the original video lol
weed lol
Very interesting even if it´s don´t my style. I think it was terribly loud there. Can only imagine how it sounds there .
You need to start listening to sleep my friend😁
I bet it sounds killer in person, but over video, it sounds fizzy as fuck
That dude is awesome
Matt sure looks better after quitting booze.
ugh i wanna hit the like, but it's at 420.
Love Pike and this seems awesome but the sound makes it unwatchable. Appreciate Premier Guitar for trying though.
Sorry. I fell asleep.
His “shredding” is lol
Go listen to his other band high on fire, much different sound than how he operates in sleep
Hurry, get this guy a line of coke!!
Mike love ya but this is all so unnecessary
péssimo guitarrista
Way too many effects for me I'd like to hear what his playing really sounds like
What? Most of the time it's just copious amounts of fuzz and OD which doesn't obscure what he's playing, just makes it more distorted.
Check out high on fire way more technical
Come on premier, mic that shit correctly!
We had one SM57 and he had 5 amps and 8 cabs ... we did our best.

Only because they didn’t mic shit properly! Sleep took me while to get. It takes a while to acquire the taste?
dezionlion That very well could be it as well.

Premier Guitar Ouch. Kudos for doing your best to tackle that however.
Reminds me of ya mothas bush!
worst tone ever
Lightenupandshoot Mikey Yet he has more talent in his big toe than you do with your shitty photography lol
@@johnfrosio8846 He doesn't have a big toe anymore lol

Yawn...
Is he drunk ? Looks like....😒
High as fuck, he doesn't drink anymore
Seth DeWitt - he’s high on fire! 😆
definitely slow
These tones suck, can't he just play the guitar normally so we can get an idea
Yeah dude, gimme those sexy blues licks
What a shitty sound!! Dude, get a Helix, you'll save space and dust!! And probably (probably) sound good!
