When this guy removed his existing shifter, the shifter bushing was not on the ball end of the shifter (the part that fits into the transmission). Sometimes you have to fish the bushing out of the transmission. He also didn't mention swapping the bushing onto the MGW shifter. You have to do this.
Like your vids. When i had my 99 and 03 Cobras i had a steeda triax. Was perfect on the 99 but didnt like it on my 03. Your vids make me miss those cars. Had kids so needed a more practical car. My version of a minivan is my 2014 ruby red raptor. And my wifes grocery getter is a 2012 srt8 Cherokee. Your vids have made me get the itch for another 03-04 Cobra.
Pretty much same story: have a pro 5 in the car. Sorry as it is... miss shifts, grinds. It came in the car when purchased. I trust this will make a big difference for me, as I absolutely could not stand the pro 5.0 setup. Thinking about an install this evening. Take care! J
Great video! I use the mgw on my 08 gt500, it's an absolute must for the s197 cars. I've have b&m, steeda, cheap eBay, and Hurst. Mgw's design and feel is unbelievable and next level compared to anything I've ever used before. I'll only use MGW in all my cars now.
I have the same on my 04 Cobra 🐍 try and angle the orange pc to 7-8 o'clock instead of 6 o'clock makes for reaching it a lot easier if u go with the race stick.. I did the same and ordered two Race and the middle one from standard..
Mustang Lifestyle MGW is a big difference when it comes 2 shifting! You learn something new every day. Meaning, how you replaced, the old shifter, to putting in the new 1. Very impressive! Other than the whine of the supercharger (Not Feeling) the sound. But I hear the meanest, of the Cobra, when you got on it!
You can lower the standard handle down further and it'll be close to race handle but more comfortable imo. You can raise it by halfway up and be close to their comfort handle. I like the standard handle cuz it can be adjusted towards race or if you're going for a long cruise to a show, adjust it up to comfort. I swear by mgw in my 03 gt vert.
Have you guys upgrades Ashley's shifter yet? If not, I put the Barton Hybrid 3 with the flat stick in my car and love it. Just as your MGW shifts easy, the Hybrid 3 is so quick and easy. For us MT-82 owners, almost all the clunks/grinds are gone! Great video as always
If only the S550 shifter install was this easy. I remember the days of having my 01 GT and how quick it was to install an aftermarket shifter. The good ole days! Lol! Nice install man 👍🏼 and your Cobra is sick! Gotta love that whine! 😁
Hey man. I enjoy the videos. I'm pretty sure the gold ringed cover is supposed be over the shifter base but UNDER the orange block. Anyway do you feel the MGW is worth the price? I'm currently rocking the El Cheapo from LMR because my stock shifter was worn out garbage.
Man. I have the Pro 5.0 and it feels like my trans is taking a shit, thing feels like it’s 2 clicks before it goes all the way in, gonna have to order this
great vid. I currently have a pro 5.0 installed on my Gt and I find it really stiff and notchy from gear to gear. It's occasionally grind to 2nd but that's it. I'm seriously thinking of switching to the Mgw
I've got the 03 mach 1. Besides the CAI,Ported/polished intake and pypes exhaust, it is stock. the clutch will be changed out very soon. Wanting to get a short throw shifter. I live out in the sticks here in Lipan,Tx. We don't have access to performance parts except through Autozone,OReillys or online sales. SO, TRIAX OR MGW???
I wonder how that shifter compares to my steeda triax. I went from upr to steeda tri ax and tri ax was a much shorter throw. I gotta try mgw someday maybe.
I hated the Steeda Tri Ax on my 2001 Cobra. But that is just personal preference. I loved my pro 5.0 on the 3650 in the 01 Cobra but did not like the pro 5.0 on the t56 in my 03 cobra.
Hm,sounds like trans and gear ratios mix and matching shifters makes a difference. Well ive had upr blue thunder in my 92 5.0 and in my 94 5.0. My current cobra came with a tri ax and its a t-45 but still i can tell its still shorter than my previous upr's but to be honest i still like how my t-5 shifted, not so fond of this t-45 and it will need a rebuild later this year sometime
I've only ever had Tri-Ax shifters but everything I've ever heard is that the MGW is the best. Mine were installed by the previous owners, I'm debating whether or not it's worth the swap.
I had an MGW on my 2000 Camaro Z28 and loved it. I've also driven two SN Cobra's with t45's, one had an MGW with the standard handle and the other had an MGW with a race handle. Race handle was too short and made some shifts difficult but when you got it right, it slammed home. I'd go with the standard. Much more comfortable to daily it around/cruise with. I have a Triax in my 99GT and am looking to replace it with an MGW. MGW has much better return to center and gate feel. Comparing all the common t45/t56 Mustang shifters, in order of preference: MGW w/ Standard Handle > Triax > Pro 5.0 > BBK.
did you adjust the compression clamps, or stops? I'm having an issue some going to 3rd and have went to 1st several times or it appeared to not want to find or go in 3rd
Hey andrew! Would you recommend a Short throw shifter?? Ive been thinking on getting one bc i really do not like the stock shifter, feels so terrible sometimes and is not the smoothest ever , but what do you guys think? Any specific brand or so? Love the vid btw!!
Very informative video. I've been ruminating over replacing the stock shifter on my 2003 Cobra. You make installation look easy. I'm not real handy with cars. On a side note, the audio system you have looks awesome. Do you have info on the make and model of the system? Thanks.
The system is stock besides the head unit. It is a Pioneer head unit. Not sure on model. Very simple unit that works well. As for the shifter. It is super simple to install and MGW makes it super easy with included allan hex wrenches and gasket.
Thanks for the info. Do you know anything about a supercharger pulley upgrade? It's my next mod but I don't know where to go for a kit or to find a tuner to do the work. Appreciate your feedback.
Technical question for Andrew: When doing VMP dyno pulls.... Can the 2015-2017 Mustang GT factory speed limiter cause the fuel shutoff to happen early. I have Roush phase 2 installed and and fuel shut-off is happening at 6850 rpm on dyno pulls. (625 RWHP). I have 3.55 rear.
What tune are you currently running? It is possible to hit speed limiter. It is all a good idea to remove the ABS fuse + the "tree" plug on the passenger side where the cold air intake sits. It depends how high of RPM you are bringing it up to.
Running the Roush phase 2 install tune. was installed by a ford dealer. can you explain more about what ABS fuse ,also what cold air are you saying about as SC cold air input is on driver side. Thanks for fast response before..:).
I meant driver side. Sorry. The ABS fuse is in the fuse box. It will disable all traction control/advance track. If you wanted to remove the speed limiter you could get a aftermarket tune. VMP Performance's tunes are very good especially for 15+ Roush/TVS cars.
hey Mustang Lifestyle, is your center console vent bezel rattling? i notice you are using the old "card" trick. My new edge had the same issue, to stop the rattling it took off the entire bezel, you will notice where the bezel rested against ( or rather, where would rattled against) was a small "edge" of the dash right behind it. What i did to fix it was i got some the "soft" side of Velcro and cut it to fit the width of that edge and put it all around the edge. This "cushioned" the bezel and filled the empty space preventing the damn thing from rattling like a toy. If you have a similar issue give it a try so you don't have to use cards or pennies to shut it up.
I have been wanting to do it for a while. I just haven't had the chance to take apart the center console. I will definitely do that. Thanks for the advice. And yes it rattles without the cards there. Typical New Edge lol.
haha nice it doesn't have to be velcro it can really be anything thin or and soft to fill the small space and quietly absorb the impact. I couldn't stand seeing pennies so many pennies sticking out of the dash
No way I like the stock one. The Turdzilla will get a quick release with a harness and roll bar. The Cobra's steering wheel has an air bag as well removing it would not be the smartest.
I noticed in the thumbnail that you have paper or cards on top of the a/c bezel. Aha is that to stop the rattle. Cuz I did the exact same thing and it helped lol just curious xD
Not in the Cobra. I like the factory steering wheel. It is significantly thicker than the standard GT steering wheel. The Turdzilla steering wheel on the other hand needs replacement.
Tyler Wallace Not at all. These cars are still highly sought after even after all these years, and will continue to be so as the years go buy since they're getting harder to come by.
I've never understood the fascination with mustangs. They all sound the same no matter what you do to them. They all look the same no matter what you do to them. They're only good for one thing performance-wise and that's 1/8 or 1/4 mile racing. Now I understand to each their own, but if you were going to build a "performance" car wouldn't you build one that was an all-around car? Cimino's down it Myrtle Beach during Mustang week or Ford week not sure what it's called in some of these guys had a hundred thousand plus dollars put into these Mustangs and none of them or capable of keeping up with the stock 911 or Corvette on the track. I just don't get that loud look at me single purpose vehicle mentality I guess. Then there's the orders the only people worse then Mustang owners are Duramax owners. 🤣🤣🤣

Pin this!!! It’s a must
MGW is a good shifter i have it my 08 GT about 3 months love it
That last minute is what we really wanted to see!!!! Awesome vid!!
I just installed an mgw shifter on my 03z, and it is a night and day difference. Great videos man👌
Like your vids. When i had my 99 and 03 Cobras i had a steeda triax. Was perfect on the 99 but didnt like it on my 03. Your vids make me miss those cars. Had kids so needed a more practical car. Nothing wrong with the Raptor and SRT8 Jeeo! I'm sure eventually you will get a 03-04 Cobra :)
MGW is amazing! Complete night and day difference on my 99 Cobra! Loves the vids!
Thanks!

7:55 It's definitely smoother... WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. :-) Well that escalated quickly!

Omg...the cobra is so sick man😍👌
Thanks!

I dig the personal touch with the radio display.. car is awesome..

Dude i love my MGW shifter. That thing is so beefy. shifting is so much better with that shifter in there
Having a short throw installed in my cobra not sure what kind he chose hopefully it's a good one
i had one of these on my 98 cobra there awesome and you can drop the arm to make it a shorter shift

Great video I have one in my GTO and it's an absolutely amazing shifter. Also no confusion of what gear you're going to.
Man. I have the Pro 5.0 and it feels like my trans is taking a shit, thing feels like it’s 2 clicks before it goes all the way in, gonna have to order this
Mgw is the way to go. Best shifter on the market.
I THINK I LIKE THAT SHIFTER.. IT GOES NICE WITH THAT COBRA, DUDE.. THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO.. NOW I'M LOOKING FOR A MGW FOR MY MUSTANG..👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
I had that same exact radio in my newedge lol! I loved it!
adam boggess I was thinking the exact same thing I have that one too 😂
great vid. I currently have a pro 5.0 installed on my Gt and I find it really stiff and notchy from gear to gear. It's occasionally grind to 2nd but that's it. I'm seriously

Great Video! Just bought one can't wait to install it!
love my mgw in my cobra!
You looked exactly like one of the twin babies from rugrats at the first of the video!
Love watching the how to videos thanks guys! Keep them coming!
I wonder how that shifter compares to my steeda triax. I went from upr to steeda tri ax and tri ax was a much shorter throw. I gotta try mgw someday maybe.

This is a long shot, but where did you get that orange gasket?
what radio is that. I need something nice with a killer display for mine. Upgrading real soon because I will be playing BT music religiously
Love the Barton shifter on my 2012 gt👍🏻 no issues so far after 5 years😉
Well actually 3 years that I've owned it!
Aw man I wanted more pulls at the end lol thumbs up as always!
Wait until the TVS goes on the car :)
I have a mgw shifter on my 03 cobra best shifter hands down but too bad i need a new clutch and its hard to shift at wot
good taste of the music man I'm already used to the song
did you adjust the compression clamps, or stops? I'm having an issue some going to 3rd and have went to 1st several times or it appeared to not want to find or go in 3rd
Hey andrew! Would you recommend a Short throw shifter?? Ive been thinking on getting one bc i really do not like the stock shifter, feels so terrible sometimes and is not the smoothest ever , but what do you guys think? Any specific brand or so? Love the vid btw!!
Yes ditch the stock truck shifter! MGW definitely.
So sick cobra... And nicely done video mate! Gonna get my hands on one next year.
Thanks!
Will a short throw shifter fix the shifter being tilted towards the driver?

That wotbox action lol. I figured out how to make it pop on command with the wotbox
How?
Gotta change that handle.....Are you going with the Mcleod RXT?
Andrew, off topic.. how do you like that radio lol was about to grab the same one.
I like it. Works great, has bluetooth, has external mic for hands free calling, usb, pandora. No complaints.
Hi,
What do you prefer for tko 600 ? Hurst or MGW?
Thanks!
I am a big fan of the MGW I have tried many other shifters but the MGW is precise and short.
That outro song goes so wood with every video lol
hey Mustang Lifestyle, is your center console vent bezel rattling? i notice you are using the old "card" trick. Haha yeah
My e brake handle top button sometimes vibrates from exhaust drone,i need to find something to put there.
how does the MGW compare to the Pro 5.0 Shifter?
So far so good. It is much smoother and much less transmission noise.
you install the boot first before the orange piece.
Time for a new wheel in that cobra, quick release would set it off!!
No way I like the stock one. The Turdzilla will get a quick release with a harness and roll bar. The Cobra's steering wheel has an air bag as well removing it would not be the smartest.
That's badass love the videos
Thanks!
great vid bro
The radio banner...i see what you did there lol
I noticed in the thumbnail that you have paper or cards on top of the a/c bezel. Aha is that to stop the rattle. Cuz I did the exact same thing and it helped lol just curious xD
Yup Lol. Even a low milage Cobra rattles. Damn Fords
Mustang Lifestyle aha I thought I was the only one too lol #mustang problems.
I need that cobra 😍😍
:)
Most videos I have watched on mustangs ,they always change shifters
What radio unit u running bro
I have a 2004 gt can someone list some mods I should start with? I already have accel coil packs, off road X and cat delete
VMP Tune with SCT X4, jlt cold air intake, rear end gears either 4.10s or 3.73s
She was screamin!! i don't think you'll be missin a gear anytime soon Lol!
With stock shifter third is a bitch to get into
thought about a new steering wheel?
Not in the Cobra. I like the factory steering wheel. It is significantly thicker than the standard GT steering wheel. The Turdzilla steering wheel on the other hand needs replacement.
nice Drew drew
I prefer the notchy shifters. feels good to know it goes into gear
Fck man that whining will never get old, eargasm every time🤗
Ash should get one for her car. ;-)
+Bryan Hallman hmm :)
ever considered putting the stock radio back in the car? lol
what kind of radio is that one?
Pioneer Double Din. Not sure on model. Ashley got it for me. It has bluetooth, USB, pandora support, fm, etc. Very good unit and works well.
Mustang Lifestyle thanks for replying! love the looks of it!
Am I to late being infatuated with the cobra
Tyler Wallace Not at all. These cars are still highly sought after even after all these years, and will continue to be so as the years go buy since they're getting harder to come by.
Tyler Wallace I literally just bought one, amazing cars and they make power so easily. Definitely worth all the hype
Wesley Schwinn yea they are amazing I really want a cobra R but idk if that's pushing it
finally. Loved the MGW in my 99 GT. Never missed a shift. Now get one in your girls.
Soon! Lol
The stereo in the car said mgw shifter install.
+DarkHorse Vlogs it's a conspiracy!
ITS ALIVE
Nice. Looks like a real easy install, considering it looked like you pretty much did it with one hand...LOL...LOL Nice pull!
cool
First
Man what the fuck you doing with that old ass head unit. That better be the next mod asap
No plans to replace it. It works well.
“Uhh”
Am I the only one that gets annoyed by the demo mode on car stereos?
Gg
better imgrade before the five o smokes you
Scott had some interesting outcome at the track stay tuned!

Then there's the orders the only people worse then Mustang owners are Duramax owners. 🤣🤣🤣
learn to shift then complain
Music ruins your video...u don't need it, overpowers your voice and major annoying
