FFXIV - Imperial Leitmotifs [PART 1]

- Here are all the leitmotifs / recurring melodies (Up to 5.3) associated with the Garleans, the main antagonists in Final Fantasy XIV! Later I will upload an easy way to play these themes on the piano if there's interest ^^

UPDATE: The song at 5:50 is actually A Pall Most Murderous, the Ghimlyt Dark theme! I heard piano and went 'hee hoo The Burn' so please note that!

Terncliff is fucking amazing. It's as Chopin and Tschaikowsky had a depression-music-baby.
In general the Garlean Leitmotif is very Orchestral and Grandious.
Gods I wish my body would allow me to play the piano.. I got a nice Yamaha in my house but since I take epilepsy medication I cramp and have a very hard time controling myself..
god the way it transitions from the Garlean anthem to Revolutions at 6:50 gives me goosebumps every time
I thought I was doing pretty well in having caught about half of these! This is amazing, thank you so much for making it!!
There is also Imperial Will in the Emerald Weapon OST! And probably more I didn't notice.
I believe the main melody of Dangerous Words is also the beginning progression of Imperial Will!
I liked to think it's a continuation of the inversion of "Oh we're the bad guys this time" when you start upsetting the orchestrated balance of the first. You're the one bringing change and threatening the established way of life, so you get a remixed bad guy theme!

Hey, that’s an interesting perspective! We’re the Warrior of Darkness there, but it doesn’t just show “dark = evil” as we’ve been lead to believe so far. In returning Darkness to the First, we’re combatting the Light-induced stagnation of aethers there to try and make things right! SHB really turns things on it’s head when it comes to the “rights and wrongs” of our actions and alignments, ayy?

This is a fantastic breakdown of the leitmotifs and I appreciate it. Also I'm in favor of what you mentioned of 'easy way to piano these themes'.
Awesome vid! I knew about most of these, but it's always nice to see these leitmotifs in the limelight. There's also The Black Wolf Stalks Again (Emerald Weapon 2d Phase theme), which features Imperial Will heavily in multiple ways. And I believe I also hear a sped up version of the 'gaius' leitmotif you found in A Land Long Dead and Penitus, although I'm not 100% certain. It's the fast electronic/gitar part in TBWSA.

After EW, I call that first one the Broken Garlean song.
So I don't think it changes too much but the track from Tsukuyomi phase 1 isn't Wayward Daughter, that's the phase 3 track with the vocals and guitar and her (far too late) resolving to fight against everything that made her what she was. The phase 1 theme, which you played here, is Nightbloom. Aside from that, this was incredibly interesting and definitely a good analysis. I'm very interested in seeing the piano sheets.

i knew Zeitgeist is commonly used in english.. but leitmotif is new to me :)
also, do you think 1:55 until about 2:13 in this vid of Penitus (th-cam.com/video/jx3QPiTcXa4/w-d-xo.html) is also a reference to Imperial Will? to me, the chords sound similar to the chords that play during the main motif of Imperial Will, but since in Penitus the melody is absent I wasn't sure whether this is a reach.
May be a little bit of a reach but you never know, Soken’s genius knows no bounds!
I actually haven’t heard this part of the song because my speakers cut it out ( only really play high treble ) so I’m rly glad you pointed it out XD Man, what a great section! Love them strings.
@@zenosyeetgalvus yeah! if it was a conscious reference it would probably be a bit more obvious, but I still really like the progression of that part!
Wait a sec, what is the Prae motif doing in Shadowbringers' boss theme?
It’s often used as a general ARR throwback, so in boss fights or other themes that need the ‘WoL fighting a Big Bad’ feel to it, you can hear the leitmotif there ^^
