Those older Johnson and Evinrudes are just a pain in the ass to start...I'm running my dad's 1978 Johnson 35 (that he bought new mind you) on one of my boats and I gotta make sure I eat my wheaties that morning....it fires first or second pull literally every time but man...it's tough. Ill pull on my 40 Yamaha 2 stroke all day and still not exert that much effort in one or two pulls of the Johnson. Congrats on getting it running though, they're awesome little engines
@@FishingOntario if I were you, I'd keep it man, throw it on a manual jack plate (vance manufacturing or on the fly) and run the piss out of it....it will get a little easier as time goes on also. They're great engines...like I said, I'm still running my dad's 78 and she rips still til this day and has never been touched other than normal maintenance and an occasional pull cord
There is a BIG part of me that wants to do just that, or swap it out for a short-shaft lower, convert it to a 35hp (carb swap) and see if I can get a 14ft tinny to run 40mph 😂
Looks like a short shaft, but thats a solid motor. Im currently running a E25RCR. Air, fire, gas is all she needs. Its a point system, so its fairly simple system. Awesome looking motor as well.
I believe it had "L" in the serial number, which denotes a long shaft, but hey, what the hell do I know! lol. Thanks for the comment and for watching :)
Did you ever get your motor start with ease? I had a 1963 Johnson 18 horse with the same issue, I replaced coils, points (set them to proper gap (.020) and condensers, she fired right up with the easiest of pull.
We got any Evinrude fans here?
Brother. You just gave the so much hope and great ideas with lessons already get to to my Evinrude 20 here soon. You have my respect sir
That is awesome! Comments like this are what keep me making videos. Thanks so much for watching, glad you got something out of it! ❤️
You seem to make them very well. You include and talk through your mistakes. That motor mount is genius. Please keep going

@@FishingOntario Just wanna say that in my eyes it is a short shaft, i have alot of those motors
I wish that were the case, but it is in fact a long shaft, with the model # being E20CRL - the “L” designation means it’s a long shaft

Nah, never. It was always a bear to pull over and I eventually sold it.
Lmao see you jump for joy was the highlight of the video! 💪🏻
As you can tell, I was a little excited after a couple weeks of frustration lol
What year is that motor?
I don't even recall! I think it was maybe mid-80's?
Holy smokes 😳😆
Literally, lol
Dude that’s a spitty little motor! You should be all teeth when you take it out on the water…
Its a short
Is it?
