@@stvnbo But to be fair, while the saga is called Zero Escape, it clearly doesn't mean it in the literal sense, but in an analogy sort of way At least for the second and third game
Fun fact: there was an experiment in the 70s where 10 people with completely different backgrounds(ethnicity, relationship status, thoughts on religion, age, etc.) were put on a raft and sailed across the Atlantic without surveillance to see what they would do(in terms of would they kill each other or make love). (Btw it was just them and the guy that designed the experiment). And at the end the 10 participants did want to kill someone, and it was the ‘scientist’ guy because he was being an @sshole to them. And even when interviewed about it years later they all said that they were still great friends and that they all hated the scientist guy.
Eyyy I watched that Wendigoon video! I love that story, it’s very heartwarming and points to the fact that reasonable people will try to work together when united against a common force….in this case the scientist himself lol
Honestly that story is hilarious because the more you read into it the more you start to understand the psychology... of the moron who designed the experiment. It's an embarrassing kind of hilarious seeing a middle aged psychologist thinking like some edgy teenager in a black trench coat who thinks he's "extreme" because he listens to black metal.
@SHinierthennyourforeheadit's not necessarily the actress rather than the direction. It really is giving dollar store junko even if her voice isn't that bad. Sasha and anima though....woof

I'm a lesbian and a T1 Diabetic, so while the Gio endgame gay reveal was hysterical, what really got me was the mid-game, route dependent, secret diabetic reveal. King. Get a CGM. An insulin pump. Anything. What a madman. Dosing on vibes alone.
Here is a question I just noticed thanks to you... how is he still alive during the Trust Route? The longest a diabetic can go without any insulin is like... two weeks in the best case scenario.
@@NionivekYou see, the corn is actually a canon event and exists in the military base in a state of superposition until needed. Obviously in the trust route, Lumi secretly finds out about Gio's secret diabetes and then makes him insulin via corn which is totally how it works my source is
In Danganronpa, you dread getting too attached to the characters in case the worst could happen to them - hoping beyond hope that some of your favorites survive. In Inescapable, you start wishing a nuke would just drop on the island.
Honestly, DR's no better IMHO. Lest I remind you this is the same series that sexualized Mikan and Kotoko (two SA survivors), including the latter who's *literally a child* and played her and Haiji (an actual p*do) for laughs and even wrote it as attractive. Then there's DR3 single-handedly destroying what made the first two games good and retroactively making Makoto and Chiaki look _so much worse,_ and V3 basically killing the series. Just because DR is better at hiding it's incompetence and malice does _not_ make it any better.
im not denying that inescapable is way worse than danganronpa, but like, this is still exactly how i felt about the entire cast of danganronpa (or at least for the first game, havent played any of the others). especially makoto. i was literally so mad when he survived getting attacked and escaped getting executed. like, i logically knew he was gonna survive because he's the protagonist. but i really wish he didnt. i always get so confused when people talk about how likeable or well written the danganronpa cast is. like, did we play the same game? maybe im just weird.
Ok so the lust route you can try to force Mia to kiss you (resulting in her rightfully slapping you and calling you a despicable monster) and in the trust route she reveals that a co worker tried to sexually assault her so that makes the lust route even WORSE
Yeah the way lust was done was absolutely irredeemable. Like why the fuck did they choose lumi to be the horny one in dream sequence when she is canonically asexual… they could have chosen any of the other girls for it
also , something disgusting to know about annika's lust route!! Children when getting SA'D badly giggle because they don't know how to react ( i watched a warning video about it on youtube im not a horrible person,,, where it played a girl's giggling and it said if you think the girl was having an or... it means you're a SAer idk ) and do you know who else giggles when being SA'D and is infantalized?? 😨😨
The worst thing about this game by far, for me personally, is that I look almost identical to Harrison - down to the clothing style. I'll never know peace again, my friends will never let me live this down. Can't look at myself in the mirror anymore. I shall proceed to launch myself into the fucking sun
I wish I had never been subject to Naomi's voice acting. There are ways to portray angry, unhinged characters without screaming into your ear every time she speaks :((((
As an artist, what pisses me off the most is that the art in the cgs and the sprites is not bad! I love the direction where they used "acrylic standee models" for the characters, I think it's charming And yet it was wasted all on this horrible game. No wonderful character design, art direction could NOT save the horrendous writing
GOD FINALLY A COMMENT THAT MENTIONS THIS. The designs and art is SO GOOD IMHO. If only we lived in a diff wprld, where this game was as good and short as DDLC...
I was just going to say this, honestly I like how the characters look. Design could be better, more consistent, everything else is bad... but I like looking at them. My brain's just like 'man, what a shame...'
I totally agree! The standee approach is reminiscent of Danganronpa and their use of flat character sprites but given a twist that makes it charming instead of seeming like a straight rip off. I wish that the game continued to find clever ways to use their inspiration to their advantage by putting new twists on it… maybe it would have been passable then.
I remember when i first heard that moment, i was for some reason like, "Damn, that line is actually kind of cold." Then when i went to eat, i thought about it again, and slowly realized how fucking funny and nonsensical it was. "I'm the garbage collector, because i collect garbage." The more and more i think about it, the funnier it is. It's proof that the people who wrote the script for this game just used the first draft. There's literally no other way.
Despite the number of times you told us that this game ripped off Danganronpa, I still had my jaw on the floor when i saw this game using the EXACT SAME dramatic body discovery and comic recap shots from Danganronpa. Holy hell
Part of the reason why this video is *so* clip heavy is because while I was working on the edit I kept thinking "They're going to think that I'm just being dramatic or hyperbolic if I don't show them what it's actually like" because without proof it's hard to believe it'd be this egregious. The other main one is the tea party scene, if I'd only described that without showing it I think a lot of people would've just assumed I was exaggerating for comedic effect.
"No one is going to know about your game and if they do it's going to be because of this video" is a more toned down version of "I will eviscerate you in fiction. Every pimple, every character flaw. I was naked for a day; you will be naked for eternity." from a knight's tale
I’m only 13k views away from having the most-viewed video about this game on the internet so there’s a very real possibility that this will actually be the most influential piece of Inescapable media out there lmao

Shout-out to people watching this who don't know Danganronpa and Zero Escape characters, and are just hearing a *torrent* of Japanese names that mean nothing to them as the characters are summarized. I will assure you, that everything being said makes perfect sense. ESPECIALLY "he's like if Junpei Tenmyoji from Zero Escape was ride-or-die for the thin blue line." Poetry.
I love the idea that someone is going to watch this video and then play Zero Escape to figure out why I called Daan that, I'd love to see them get to the end of ZTD just to see if they agreed when it was all said and done.
Out of all the "dark secrets" in the Trust route, Daan's makes the least amount of sense to me. Wouldn't the story of a sickly child overcoming his illness and growing up to become a star athlete be even more inspiring than "he was a prodigy cyclist ever since he could walk"?
Yeah, she looks like a pedophile designed her to lust over her. The infantilisation. The way she is basically serving them all. And she is also drawn the youngest. Thinly veiled fetish
@@siggevidstige8019 my deepest condolences to you and any annika's you know. I don't usually get to see names of people I know in games due to being Nordic and after this I hope it never happens again
i just wanna add (before having watched the video): i was there when the casting call for this game dropped (PUBLIC casting call btw, on fuckin castingcallclub of all places), when it was just called "project daedalus" or something, and it gave off EVERY possible red flag to the point that it seemed like a complete scam and neither me nor my voice actor friends were interested in auditioning. there was no character art, and even weirder no character NAMES (it was all "sweet attentive swedish maid" or "introverted nerdy british boy", which is VERY rare for games like this), the lines were absolutely atrocious and all seemed like such ai-generated stereotypes based on whatever the archetype was (there was one listed as like latvian nonbinary engineer or something that was straight up "i can be whatever you want me to be, darling ;)" which, as a nonbinary person, raised some. concerns.), but weirdest of all was the pay; it was listed as "$1,000 / finished hour" which is INSA N E for a project of this scale. and again, this was on CASTINGCALLCLUB, the website where mostly beginner voice actors audition for small indie stuff or fan projects (or dozens upon dozens of gacha life animations). and they were AMBITIOUS. asking for different accents on i'm pretty sure every single character, and making it clear this would be a project (so a LOT of work on the actor's end most likely). like. i just really need to emphasize. i don't know if they got a voice director, but based on how poorly their casting call was formatted, i highly suspect it was all self-directed on the actor's end, which, in a character-based visual novel where every character is supposed to have extreme personalities and distinct accents, is . and obviously they were asking for accents or nationalities that they know next to nothing about, hence how wonky all the accents and pronunciations are ALL THIS TO SAY: that's why the voice acting is Like That. and i do not mean this as a dig at the actors themselves; just at the devs and writers for handling this about as poorly as a voice acting project could be handled. if i got handed a script for "pampered french teen business heiress" without proper guidance i would probably set on fire
honestly some of the voices in the video actually sound kinda good? if they weren't such insane scripts and in such a joke of a game. i hope the VAs can get better roles in the future because it sounds like with a bit more experience, proper direction and a serious project (as in something being produced seriously and professionally) they could really shine
You know...the Giovanni as gay thing COULD have worked if it was played up to focus more on his family than the toxic masculinity thing. Like "My wife is even MORE of a devoted Catholic than me, if she knew I was gay, she'd take my children from me, and I love them more than life itself! I'd be excommunicated, kicked out of my home, and my darling children taken from me...I'd lose everything and everyone I love!" It'd be much more understandable why he'd want to hide his sexuality then if he legit feared he'd lose his children over this secret being exposed. Then it could make him likable. Add in more scenes of him talking about his family, of how his son and daughter's faces make him smile just picturing them in his mind's eye, then it makes him relatable. Sympathetic! It COULD have worked. But they botched it.
oh shit, and then they could have hinted at him talking up how important and wonderful family is, but have him only ever do that with the kids, never his wife... minor point, but showing some struggles with the wife, but the kids are his life would fit it
tbh I feel like the "Killing game with no game concept" seems so funny and unhinged like "You'll be forced to play a game of life or death! "A game that will make you...." "...." "What were the rules again?" "What do you mean? I thought you were the one deciding the game" "I was one responsible for choosing the location and kidnapping the people you were the one choosing it!" "ARE YOU SAYING I GOT A BUNCH OF STOCKED FOOD FOR NOTHING BECAUSE YOU DECIDED TO BE INCOMPETENT AND NOT DO YOUR JOB?" and then it could have both of the headmaster try to figure out what game they should play and either have them making shit up on the post or just changing it every 5 seconds so no one knows how to win, if you do it properly it could be a interesting premise
Exactly! Making it some satire of the entire genre where the people running it have no idea what they're doing could have worked well, but instead it's....this.
God Annika could have worked if the infantalization was a key part to unlocking the true route, Harris would need to be able to see past Aniikas childish exterior and would have to see she was uniquely capable in her own way depite her disabilities. He would have to *Trust* that Annika was more than her first glance and i am so mad she was reduced to a child caricature.
Ima be real. I didnt like it when Mikan was sexualized in DR2. But Annika is so much worse. Mikan has some serious mental issues that definitely needs repairing, but the times where she's nit depressed, she actually acts normal and sweet. Annika is mentally a child.
im autistic + a few orher things and can act very.. childish as well as a coping mechanism for some. Stuff. i saw myself a bit in annika.. it really sucks that she ended up like this because she really had potential to be really really well written stealing her and making her an oc idgaf anymore
I'll give them this. Most of the time the children that get drafted into these bizarre death games are either American or Japanese, having them all be Europeans is a nice change of pace
yeah that's the one grace i'll give them. we rarely get europe-focused content and if we do it's either britain, italy, france, or maybe germany. and 90% of the time it's because they're doing tourism there or bc they're talking about history. having so many characters from so many different parts of europe and having them say so many things in their native languages is such a breath of fresh air even if it's in a game like this
Meanwhile I'm patiently waiting for Africa or South America to be the main focus... (Also sorry that the first prominently European version of this sucks so bad!)
It's too bad some of the accents are so horrific. I feel for the voice actors. Most of them seem like they're not half bad (I think the death scenes really highlight that these voice actors do actually have some skill), but they've been given material they clearly aren't practiced in and either poor or no direction. Ideally for me personally, they'd cast people from the places they're trying ro convey, which it seems they did with some of them. But at the very least, for how much the game costs, they could have done some accent coaching or hired people with more experience in accent work. It's kind of funny how the accents seem to be on one or the other as far as the scale of quality. It's especially unfortunate that the main protagonist is so bad.
I havent arrived yet to that, I'm scared...did they do something worse than Dangan with Mikan? You should do better than your inspiration, or similar, but NOT WORSE
yeah that ain't right, how did they put someone like her in this clusterfuck and think it's okay, doesn't feel right and reminds me of the bad routes of school days
I genuinely cannot believe “I don’t even know if you’re waifu or husbando” is actual dialogue written for this game. Absolutely incredible stuff, guys.
I mean, I've barely started the vid, but have they not missed the point of Daganronpa like champs to say that there is a clear end date and everyone who lives gets 500,000? Sounds like an incentive to get along to me. Like, every time an argument gets too heated, "hey guys, 500,000, remember?"
At a bare minimum they could've said "There's a prize pool of 5.5 million euros that'll be split evenly among the survivors, so act accordingly" so that there's at least SOME incentive for conflict.
i thought that this was a meme comment with fake german as a joke only to come back, notice the “translate to english” button, and discover that it’s actually in german lmao
Giovanni's story makes me particularly angry because it could've been genuinely compelling if it was written by someone competent. But maybe I'm just being blinded by Gio's tits and my crush on him
One day we will get a good "homophobe realises they're gay and actually develops and unlearns shit" story not today though. and we lost Giovanni for it
Hi, I'm the voice of Lumi! Daan's VA shared this with me and I watched the whole thing, which I thought this was great work! You gave some very good criticism, made me laugh (especially on the Gio part), and most of all, I respect you for playing through all 4 routes! If it was hard to sit through the Wonderland scene, believe me, I had just as hard a time voicing it. I was not expecting to do that sort of scene for Lumi at all when I was told she was the emotionless type of character lol. However, it was fun voicing for Lumi as this was my first big role in something so it will always mean so much to me! Hopefully you had fun whenever you could while playing! ❤
I’m glad you enjoyed it! I said this to Daan’s VA as well, but I admire you for being willing to sit through a video that’s pretty hostile to something you worked on, especially given that it was your first big role and I know how easy it would be to be defensive about that (and I definitely wouldn’t blame you for it either). I’m sorry to hear that the Wonderland scene was hard for you too, Lumi’s role in that scene has consistently felt very weird and out of place given everything else about her and I can imagine it wasn’t very fun to get hit with that out of left field. There were definitely some solid Lumi moments, though - as much as I thought it was a little out of character for Lumi to team up with Isak to kill Gio, I thought you did an especially good job at conveying her frustration with him and how he ruined the plan. I wish we’d gotten to see more of that side of her - there could’ve been some good opportunities for her in Greed and Lust to let the frustration at the way the contestants spiral slip out. I completely understand Lumi meaning a lot to you as well, I think we all tend to be very attached to those kinds of firsts and I’m glad it was overall a fun experience! As much as I didn’t like the game, I can definitely say that it was a lot of fun to play through in its own way - especially the Gio bit, I genuinely haven’t laughed that hard at anything in ages. I hope to see you (and your colleagues) in bigger and better projects in the future!
You did a good job and tbh, I really like your voice acting!! I just think Lumi had a LOT of potential thrown out of the window, which is such a shame because for what you've been given, you did a great job! Can't wait to see you in future projects!
i always used to get annoyed when i saw people going "i bet they're in the closet" about someone being homophobic, sometimes its just a shitty cishet person and nothing more. its cool to see someone call that stereotype out
Exactly! Does nothing to combat the homophobia and does nothing to combat the misogyny, while implying those are more inherent in gay men than cishet men
genuinely laughed out loud at the part that starts with the character going "i'll be succinct." followed by your caption of "She will not be succinct." incredible

It was a ride to voice in this game and this was my first payed job, but I get that the game could use some guiding. I watched the whole video and I can totally understand it. I hope daan made it at least a bit more fun XP!
I genuinely respect you for being willing to sit through the video, because I think if I were in your shoes I probably would’ve had to turn it off. And I will say that Daan’s habit of randomly just saying whatever emotion he’s feeling at the end of a sentence has worked its way into how I talk because it was legitimately funny, so I think Daan was a net positive all things considered lol
Oh cool! With that attitude, you'll definitely make it in the industry and Im glad you got payed for your work! Hope to hear your performance in other works.
I'm glad you took the video well. Can't wait to see your voice acting in other projects because you did a really great job considering the script, I'd say! As a voice actor myself, I wish you nothing but the best!

2:00:18 Portuguese speaker here, just wanted to point out that the way they are pronouncing her name (or shortened version of it) is wrong. Francisca when shortened is Chica but is pronounced as 'Sheeka' because "CH" in Portuguese makes an 'SH' sound. So when they call her Chica it just sounds like they are calling her 'girl' in Spanish.
It took me noticing that the C was capitalized to realize it was supposed to be a nickname and not the Spanish word for girl 😭 they should have just nicknamed her Kika bc I was sitting here like "wdym a Portuguese person is constantly being called the Spanish word for girl and doesn't immediately kill whoever calls her that"
As a British person the delivery of "well that's just rude, innit" at 51 mins in made me cringe so fucking hard. whoever made this clearly doesn't know how innit works as a sentence piece and the voice actor clearly didn't know how a british person talks. I also got whiplash with the discussion of the prize being €500k because.... harrison immediately replies "wow that's more than my salary!" and maybe it's a me problem but I don't know the conversion of euros and great british pounds, so it gave me the impression that the writers just... @@GarryDumblowski You definitely can, but there's the simultaneous circumstances that €500,000 is significantly more than the yearly salary of a bus driver and that anyone trying to get that much money exchanged will have to go through a more specialised service that might ask why you have that much foreign currency.

love how during the second comic book recap 2 characters pronounce Isak's name 3 different ways in as many sentences. microcosm of the voice direction issues
I have never been certain how to say it because they constantly switch it up between eye-sack, iss-ack, and isaac, and even Isak himself doesn’t seem to really know which one is right.
Okay but like. "it'll be livestreamed to our viewers on the internet" ... making them aware they're being watched. meaning they have plenty of reason to still conform to societal norms and like. not murder each other...
Yeah like they explicitly acknowledge that Valerie’s parents were at least following along at the end of Greed, so at a bare minimum anyone with any proximity to power would be basically untouchable. Did Isak and Lumi just like… think the Italian mafia wouldn’t maybe have something to say to them if they murdered their leader?
Oh 1000%, I know I ragged on this game a lot but I was dead serious about Annika deserving so much better. I think I said to another commenter that her and Sasha were my least favourite to interact with bc Sasha would do some Sasha bullshit and with Annika I was always terrified of what they were going to do to her next.
Small gripe compared to... everything else, and it's not like this is the only game that portrays bodies unrealistically - but you're going to sit there and tell me that Francisca looks like THAT when she had a baby TWO MONTHS AGO????
This game is if a group of people came together and decided to turn their discord RP into a videogame, looked up how to be camp and poorly tried to follow the exact definition. I actually burst out laughing at several lines of dialogue from the sheer absurdity
As cringe as this may be to admit, as someone who actively participated in danganronpa discord killing game roleplays, I've seen groups of teenagers write more compelling plots, characters and create better art and designs than this actual fucking game company 😭😭
@@Essayienien yeah, in those situations (as someone who has participated in some) Discord RPs are usually done as a passion project, so those teens actually try their damndest to portray their characters--original or no--the best they possibly can. And that usually entails regulating participants who are intentionally or otherwise derailing the whole thing _(I say this as someone who's had that happen to me before)_ before the affair devolves into . . . Well, another Inescapable.
@@Essayienien As someone who STILL participates in danganronpa discord killing game roleplays, there are two sides: people have a LOT of talent with the most biggest writing masterpieces I've ever seen and... inescapable.
One of my biggest problems with the game is that only one of the routes contains murder mystery elements despite the fact that this was marketed as a death game.
i think that the reason interacting with mia locks you into the suspicion route is because it would make her death and the ending more impactful- if the player is choosing to interact with her shes probably their favorite, or they at least get to know her through all their interactions. instead of just making characters that you care about so that any death is impactful, they just picked one they forced you to like so they could focus the ending on her (unnecessary) death...
Another thing about the weirdly American centeric game composed of ostensibly European cast members, why would Giovanni, an Italian Mob Boss, use the Stonewall riots as his queer cultural touchstone? Like, I'm not European, but there HAS to be European queer history he could have referenced that would have made way more sense
As an asexual myself, I should be happy to see the inclusion of an ace person in the cast. But the fact they're described as 'heartless', which falls back on the stereotype that asexual people are like emotionless robots who can't feel love or affection, along with the wonderland dream where they were desperately begging to be 'used' by Harrison, make that a very, very insulting inclusion and honestly makes me feel a little sick. Not one thing in this game's attempts at 'representation' isn't just a horrible insult. They don't even accidentally get something right!
@@indigomizumi I mean, when you think about it, it's kind of ironically embedded to the concept of representation in media: Representation requires the experience from the side that is represented, NOT the side that observed them, as it can have skewed perspectives and not have the full picture. But since most people that are in control of the media's narrative, writing and visual/audial expression never experienced those represented moments, by the nature of the representative usually being a minority and/or treated unequally, or they more often then not get it wrong. In short, The fact that we want to represent something means that the people which create that representation likely aren't part of it due to the fact the represented are not equal in amount and status, and that can make the representation incorrect Moreover, even consulting only a single or few represented people about can also go awry, as most representation aren't one sides to fit all, Like how all Autistics or all Asexual are different and experienced different things. That's why I think Clear and Major Media Representation should be made with consultant of sufficient amount of the represented AND Proper research of the topic and it's many perspectives.
@@tetrachart4156 Thing is, you also just need more representation in volume. There are so many different aspects of being autistic, and so many different people can have nothing in common yet still all be asexual, that simply consulting enough people still wouldn't do them any justice. The people affected by autism or those that identify as asexual are so diverse that it's genuinely impossible to represent them with one character, as is the nature of a spectrum. The best one story can do is avoid stereotypes.
Considering the gay guy is a raging misogynist and transphobe, the asexual person is a robot who is sexualized as fuck in the dream sequence, the enby is a complete sex pest and the mentally challenged one is sexualized to hell and back, I cannot believe this wasn't some right wing psy-op made by boomers to spite minorities or something.
1:27:15 So the Chapter 1 case is notoriously simple for *English* players. In the original Japanese game, Leon is written in English still - meaning that it's far trickier for Japanese native players to understand. While we all saw it instantly, many Japanese players would have genuinely had to figure it out with the clues provided since unless they had a rudimentary grasp of English, it would have been total nonsense to them. It's just one of those unfortunate lost-in-translation moments.
@@LowIntSpecimen Late response, but I think it’s stated because it was easier for her to write his name in English rather than with the Kanji characters (Leon v. 怜恩) ESPECIALLY when writing the name backwards AND upside down!
What possessed them to think they could over power a 55 year old mafia boss who is still ripped? He could single handedly kill all of them with his bare hands. As a Mafia boss he probably has killed many people before.
Anna makes me super uncomfortable. It comes across less like good faith disability representation and more like the Writer's barely disguised fetish they're retroactively trying to justify
OH my god I JUST realized why Naomi’s voice was grating on my brain specifically. She sounds EXACTLY like one of the creatures from that one part of nostalgia critics the wall review. The one with the hat
What’s wild is you’re not even the first person to make that connection lmao, like if multiple people are independently coming to that conclusion it’s pretty damning
I cant handle your character introductions. It's so damn funny. "Hi, I'm Daan-" Daan is genderbent Dutch Aoi Asahina except with a boner for cops and a fcked up view of justice. DAMN
Daan’s bio was one of the first ones I wrote and also probably the one that changed the least over time, mostly bc I just thought all of it was pretty funny the first time. “His personality is like if Junpei Tenmyouji was ride-or-die for the thin blue line” is one of my personal favourite lines from the whole thing.
@@reaperassasin11 For context, coming from an ace (lesbian) person myself who individualistically likes the idea of certain parts of sex and sexually charged experiences and activities as a way to feel good about myself, my body-especially since I am also chronically ill-and as just a continuation of physical intimacy but cannot imagine myself in the position doing it with anyone nor do I experience sexual attraction, you can absolutely desire sex/sexually charged intimacy, experience sexual attraction and have a libido and wet dreams, ad infinitum while being on the ace spectrum. E.g., someone who's on the ace spectrum may not experience frequent sexual attraction and/or or the general desire to (always) build up to sexually charged intimacy in their relationships but can still be turned on, desire sex, engage in bdsm and kinks and pleasure themselves. Now is that scene supposed to be a depiction of the fluidity of sexuality? Of course not, at least not intentionally, in the instance of Lumi.
how did they completely miss the point of the comic book recaps in danganronpa being big energetic climaxes?? why’s the music so calm, why’s the voice direction so limp, what was the thought process at all?????
Thank you for putting that small wiggly friend to maintain my sanity. I have no idea how you and chat managed to get through dialogue like that for 4 playthroughs without getting locked up in a mental asylum.
I had to put him there for my own sanity, ngl. I had to play another 20 hours of this game to get the background footage so I started adding him in while I was editing bc he made me happy lmao Also frankly I think the only thing that got me through it was knowing that I was eventually going to get my revenge with this video. Also a lot of alcohol.
The blorbo... the sploinky... rewatched this video immediately just for him... Edit: Also as a vod watcher I can confirm Viv usually starts actively consuming alcohol just to get drunk at around 30-60 minutes on average.
As someone who has spent WAY too much time creating DR OCs(at this point probably like 6 years if not more lmao) I so agree that this just feels like a cast of DROCs without refinment because I WAS THERE. Never have I felt such second hand embarassment from watching something like this... Never have I felt the urge to just steal all of these characters and actually do them justice AND ALSO HARRISON??? GIVING BAD FAME TO FLAMMER SHIRTS??? BIGGEST SIN OF THIS GAME /lh
As for the remaining lust endings; The special CG you get with Anikka shows Harrison ordering her around in their house. Turns out they’ve gone to couples therapy, but Harrison discontinued it as “why should I spend money on someone who sides with Anikka.” The only semi-good thing is that you can hear Anikka curse him out continuously, which is kinda funny. It ends with Anikka storming out the door although it’s not clear if she returns or not. And for Francisca, the CG shows her married with another face-less dude, with Harrison on the phone. And he is BEGGING for her to come back, since he thinks it’d make for a banger porn video. Even says that her husband can watch. Luckily she doesn’t humour him and just hangs up. I’m happy that it doesn’t work our for Harrison in any ending, but… yikes, bro.
32:39 the way i screamed "NO!" as soon as I heard the french accent paired with the tiny small child character. I dont think ive ever had such a gut wrenching reaction to a character in a visual novel before.
the immediate realization that its One Of Those Characters. and its not even trying to hide that. like at least in DR they made the goth lolita character based on the clothing culture and made her be extremely manipulative, making people believe she’s not nearly as big of a threat as she really is, but here its just. Lolita. not the style, but like. yknow. and giving her a mental disability just so she can be “technically not a child” yet still horribly infantilized and CLEARLY mentally immature (which is its own issue, giving her autism to make her ‘childlike’, but i cant even touch that without wanting to scream)
@StrawberryCocoaPowder To be completely fair, that clothing style is called lolita and you call people who dress like that lolitas. Although I doubt they knew that so
thank you for discussing the ableism with the discussion and treatment of Annika and her infantilization as well as sexualisation. It's estimated 90% of women with an intellectual disability encounter sexual abuse throughout their lives. It's so bad that forced sterilisation of intellectually disabled women is still legal and practiced in many first world countries (as it's expected they will be raped at some point and their carers do not want them to risk getting pregnant) and they do not have their own reproductive autonomy. Another reason is carers not wanting to deal with them having periods. It's horrendous. Anyway, I seldom see people discussing the issues of disabled people, especially not the developmentally disabled. Thank you so much it means a lot and it made me feel tearful hearing a TH-camr who cares because usually it's the opposite where I'll watch a video and suddenly they'll use the r slur or say something awful. I wish you a lovely day and thank you for the video
can confirm, I'm autistic and disabled in other manners and the amount of sexual abuse myself and my disabled friends have gone through is bullshit. I wish people would acknowledge it more often because it's a very present danger
Isak looks like if JD from Heathers worked in organization 13 and shopped at hot topic. His voice sounds like someone doing a bad impression of James from team rocket
See this basic concept could have worked so much better if it had a similar premise to The Trust. It’s reality show with a big cash prize, but it gets split evenly among every member of the cast, so you don’t get left with much. They can choose to vote people off in order to increase their winnings. There’s some other shenanigans you can do to get more money, but that’s the basic premise. Just change the voting to killing and give a reason for each character to be desperate enough to kill for it, and that’s already a much better set up.
The fact that they made it a death game with a prize but explicitly wrote parameters that completely disintencivize murering each other is insane, like every aspect says "behave". 1. They get a fixed cash prize that doesn't increase or decrease no matter what you do. I'm pretty sure that a game show involving killing other people would be declared null and void if kills happened so murdering would likely to getting no money anyways. 2. They have a very specific, rather short end date. They have to survive on an island for six months. They have zero reason for conflict since at worst, they spend 6 months with assholes on an island and they never have to see them again. Also, every conflict directly increases the potential of death because if something goes out of control. 3. IT'S STREAMED AND WATCHED BY PEOPLE. If you murder someone, your ass is on trial for MURDER. Bye bye to the money. Also... one participant is the heiress of a perfume empire whose parents are rich rich and the other one is a fucking mafia boss. You think you'd escape consequences if you killed either (ironically they were exactly the two murder victims). No, mafia obviously will brutally torture and kill you, and even the perfume empire parents will hire black market people to have you hand-delivered to them for retribution.
Ok can I just say, the good ol “Orient express twist” (They all did it together (spoilers for anyone who hasn’t read a 50 year old book)) would have been a *terrifying* climax in almost any other game. Imagine if that sort of thing was done in a proper danganronpa game, final class trial, it’s revealed everyone is working against you and *has* been working against you from the start. That would be *awesome*. It’s just a shame it’s in a game that couldn’t write its way out of kindergarten.
Yeah like you could do something very cool with that concept - having a killing game where there's an Orient Express ending (even if it's just an optional one) where everyone except the player character gets in on the killing and leaves you trapped as the one innocent person is something you could really do something with. In concept, I get what they thought they were doing with that, but instead it's just like... oh, ok. This was stupid. Especially because you don't actually have to try to live on the island with the dynamic that all the others are killers - it would've been genuinely really cool if you had one more murder after that where they have to trust you to figure it out because they can't trust each other, knowing that they're all capable of killing and deceiving. Instead it just skips to the end and does nothing with it even though there's another month left in the schedule. Even the times Inescapable threatens to do something interesting it immediately undercuts it with a bafflingly dumb decision.
@@craftergamer9058I think that's exactly WHY it could work in that setting - especially something like Viveros suggested, since everyone/multiple people *could* work together to betray you and in the end, you have to figure out which of them the game will even let you punish while you have to live with all the others for at least another chapter. Not that they'd have to know that in advance, THEY could undertake the plan falsely assuming they could all be rewarded...and/or one or more of them knows it won't work and calculates their contributions so they won't be the scapegoat but someone they want dead will be...and/or after they realize it they all turn on each other and argue why they're not the "real/most" culprit...idk, I think that rule just makes it more potentially interesting.
@@craftergamer9058 in the orient express, i think one of the people tries to volunteer themselves for the crime since they had the strongest reasons to kill them
@@craftergamer9058 to be slightly fair, that doesn't get established at the start of the games, so for the 1st or 2nd murders it could work, or until whenever Monokuma puts it in the guide book. (idk if 2 or 3 stated it from the start, but i know in 1 it wasnt established until trial 3)
Y'know, I think what enrages me most about the suspicion ending is the fact that they all got away with it! They murdered an innocent girl and knew exactly how to save her, but just let her die all the same. And none of them faced justice for it.
@@fierytigergaming8112 Thing is, Mia's poisoning happens notably slower than the rest of the cast, so there was a window of time where every poisoned victim was dead except Mia, a window that the culprits could have used (or Daan, at least) to still give her an antidote. That suspicious timing could come up in the trial, even.
The fact that they're all like ''murder is bad'' only to have murdered a completely innocent woman and none of them reflect on that is wild. like I get Sasha might not care but Annika Fransisca and Daan?
yiik is the yiik of earthbound type games then? makes sense. maybe mario and luigi… idk yiik is fucking weird. i would say undertale but undertale is very derivative of earthbound already
LMFAO i just finished an 1hr video about yiik and then watched this one immediately after having never heard of both of these games before, i think inescapable manages to be worse because of the long duration and inexcuseable price
The Trust route tells me that you could make a pretty damn good story about how a lot of famous social experiments that aimed to prove something sinister about "human nature" (e.g. the Stanford prison experiment, the Milgrim experiment) needed A LOT of meddling from the researchers to get those shocking results. As it turns out, most humans are not too keen on harming other humans without being coerced into it. Some shady wannabe scientist or TV producer constantly poking and prodding at a group of people trapped on an island in an attempt to turn peaceful cooperation into a Lord of The Flies scenario would be a great premise for psychological horror! Shame this game ain't it. Side note: While the voice acting in this is really shaky, I've got to point out that Mia's VA absolutely nailed the German parts. Her pronounciation is flawless. Either she was raised bilingual or she put in an impressive amount of work for this shitty little game.
It's genuinely baffling how bad it is. And it's not like it just gets desynced from the music if you sit on the starting screen for too long, because it'll hold off on actually giving you the notes until it thinks it's hit a point that it should come in at. If it turned out that that section was programmed with a different song and then it randomly got swapped to that one it would make so much more sense.
@@beingmegucaissuffering.5326 and, mind you, the harp strumming is like 10 minutes max of gameplay. If anything, the pumpkin balancing minigame was far more annoying
as someone who's portuguese, francisca's romance route being "garagem da vizinha" is a reference to the song by quim barreiros that is basically about the singer and the neighbour having an affair and personally i need francisca to be in a better game than this PLEASE ill save you francisca ,..,..
@@blueberrymuffin_144 AND IT WAS ALSO A GOOD FODA-SE. Man, this might be the most wasted portuguese character in existance, please put her in a better game...
It might be stockholm syndrome but after sitting through this video I find myself facinated with these characters and almost liking some of them, especially watching the trust route I found myself actually kinda caring about what happens to them (except harrison hate him, particularly liked Annika, Mia, Francisca, and Eva) and even pausing through some of the lines of the ones I liked to get a better idea of what was happening. Great video I loved this lmao- I wish this game was better, it makes me angry how it's made so poorly it reads as actively hostile to what it tries to represent. More specifically, I resonated with Annika more than I was expecting and it hit a bit close to home, and how shes treated throughout the video made me viscerally uncomfortable. It also reminded me of those things and makes me want to be more intentionally communicative about my relationship with my maturity and how others interact with it. Thanks for highlighting that, as uncomfy as it was (good gods)
Yeah, I liked a lot of the character designs and I feel like most of the characters personalities would've been fun if they had more balancing and were fleshed out a lot more. And the idea of trapping people on an island with no rules and watching it spiral to chaos is really fun. Overall the set up was so good it's just butchered by poor execution and dumb decisions by the creators
When I first played the demo, I thought to myself "This game has no potential". Like, I felt like there was no inciting incedant and that they literally had zero motives to murder each other. Watching this I felt validated on the "no incentive to murder" part lol
Okay this is a huge nitpick and not even THAT bad in comparison to the more egregious writing, but a huge pet peeve of mine and what signals to me that someone is VERY bad at character writing is making bad Likes/Dislikes. Notice how nearly every characters’ profiles have like a fun fact, little trivia thing for their Likes (usually favorite foods, hobbies, etc.) but their dislikes are almost always abstract concepts that are representative of their core belief system (Harrison being “loneliness”, Daan being “unfairness”, Gio being “heroes”, etc.) Sasha’s likes/dislikes are hilariously non descriptive too, like yeah we can tell that the pervert hacker likes mischief and “your annoyed face” and dislikes direct conflict. Do they have a character OUTSIDE of that basic premise? Like maybe Sasha likes drag shows? This would allude to how they quote RuPaul all the time. I don’t even *like* Danganronpa that much anymore but compare this to any of those characters: Mondo Oowada owns a miniature dog named Chuck which contributes to dispelling his image of a hardened delinquent, Sonia Nevermind, in the original JPN text, frequently swears in English, which is a funny personality quirk and also makes sense considering she’s a world leader.
I don't even get the purpose of short likes/dislikes list. Like, maybe I'm outing myself here, but at least in RP scenes it helps you know what you'll be dealing with and that helps with planning our naratives; here the stories are *already* set in stone, and, unless they do a *catashtropically* bad job writing, it would've been obvious anyway.
I said this to my friend! Saying things like a character "Dislikes snooty people" is such a nothing statement. Nobody likes snooty people, not even snooty people themselves. That tells me nothing about this character, other than the fact that you ran out of ideas for them.
I put this video on as background noise for my knitting, having never seen your channel before, expecting to zone out after the first five minutes. Instead I got blindsided by Drag Race references, unwillingly had war flashbacks of my high school Danganronpa phase, had physical cringe responses like I have never experienced before, and listened intently to every minute. Never in my life did I expect to hear "Danganronpa" and "Shuga Cain edit" spoken in the same video, much less the phrase "Dutch genderbent Aoi Asahina with a boner for the cops." 10/10 would watch again but skipping over the actual game footage this time
My favourite thing about the comments on this one has been the number of people who’ve been like “I put this on as background noise but then I heard (insert one of a million unhinged things) and I had to lock in to figure out wtf was going on”. I was worried while I was making the video that I was getting too wrapped up in too much of a silly little thing, and that the length was too long, so I’ve been really glad that other people find this deranged game as captivating as I did lmao
I was putting it on in the background during work and ended up moving from my work desk to my bed to watch the rest of it like a movie once my shift was over. I have never played any of these games mentioned but your presentation and this game's sheer audacity hooked me in. I definitely want to check out other videos of yours. I love rant videos like this of stuff I have no clue about.
every time i put this video on in background while i do work, i immediately get sucked in 10 minutes later, i'm enraptured by every second of this video
as a British person, Harrison's voice and dialogue confuses me because it feels like a combination of a bunch of different places and dialects with no consideration put into choosing a specific place of origin. his accent sounds posh, maybe from the north of England or rich parts of london, but then he says slang like "innit" and "bruv" which just aren't used very often in those communities. slang like that is typically used in the south, areas like Birmingham or the poorer parts of London. normally with british accents and dialogue u can typically figure out someone's home county from their accent and speech but with Harrison i just can't???
It has the same energy as the pokemon sword and shield english translation, where it's just a strange mish mash of everything vaguely british. but at least there it's a fantasy world inspired by Britain, not meant to be real life, and the story is entirely pointless not... The whole fucking game. And his posh accent makes it sound even more unnatural when he says innit or bruv, because those accents just... Don't pronounce things like that. tbh for me his voice didn't even entirely read as a British accent to me, although I'm not the best at identifying accents so that might be a me issue
Same thing about francisca. Sometimes she says things commonly said in portugal, which is okay, she speaks portuguese, BUT SHE HAS A BRAZILIAN ACCENT, not only that, her way of speaking is also brazilian, so i don't know if she is brazilian or portuguese. Not only that, but her portuguese is somehow form nowhere in brazil, there are no ''Mano'' or ''Piá'' so that i could identify a place, she's just... from somewhere
Fell asleep with this video playing and had nightmares about Isak. No, I am not kidding. This game has ruined my life, and I’ve never even played it. I will continue to watch this video every day.

As an italian, can I just say that Giovanni's voice acting and writing are god awful? I'm 100% sure the voice actor isn't italian or has ever tried to learn the language. At best he tried to mimic the pronunciation of the italian words and did a bad job at it, at worst he never even tried to listen to a real italian speaking the language! First of all his name's pronunciation is completely wrong. I can understand someone that doesn't speak the language pronouncing it like every character (and OP) does in the game, but Giovanni should know that his name isn't pronounced like that! "gio" in italian is pronounced like "jo" in japanese, or like it would be pronounced in the word "jonathan". It makes me furious that he can't even properly say his own name. Additionally every italian word he throws out of his mouth isn't pronounced the way someone that has spoken the language his entire life would. The pronunciation and intonation of the words are both off. I suggest the voice actor does a ton more research next time. Lastly everything he says in italian doesn't make sense, the writer(s) have thrown a bunch of italian words in there hoping they make sense. And sometime they kinda do, like when he says swear words when he's mad, but they almost never sound right. Like they aren't words that an actual italian would use like that. If there ever is a next time they should really consult with someone that speaks the language. I don't know about the other characters and languages, but I have a hunch that they did the same thing for almost every one of them.
54:53 A missed opportunity is to have the character die irl if they die in the dream. (Maybe Harrison could just be injured if he chooses himself). Screw the routes, imagine CHOOSING who dies first.
Harrison's English accent is so bad to a degree that I have rarely seen Everything about it down to the way he say "innit" is simply wrong in the stupidest way possible. It's almost funny at points
out of all of the ways I've heard american people say innit as a joke, even in *purposefully bad ways*, it has never sounded as awful and unnatural as the way Harrison said it
He sounds more like he's autotuned, honestly. I'm British and I would not have even guessed this guy was British if you hadn't told me. Getting to the "innit" was like a slap in the face omg
I'm English and the moment I heard the voice I had to find out who the voice actor was so I could get explanations (He was born and raised in Canada and only uses his natural accent in all other jobs)
Ok, I hate to say this, but is it weird that Isak, at least seeing him here, is VERY ironically entertaining. Like, everything about him is so inherently ridiculous that I can't help but laugh
I said the same thing to my friend. He's so annoying but you could tell the VA was having so much fun with their role that you almost have to forgive him because their enjoyment of getting to play a total maniac is contagious
Yeah I think he's the only character I kinda vibe with, he is the only redeeming part of that Tea party sequence because the overdramatic Gundham clone doesn't seem to change at all in this scene, while the other 2 are just different characters completely
When the first line of voiced dialogue you put in the video played and it was just the opening to the Team Rocket motto, I paused the video, closed my eyes, and waited for death's sweet embrace to take me. It didn't come though so I kept watching. EDIT: oh jesus i'm in for it huh
The crazy part is that that’s literally the first thing that plays when you start the game. Credit where it’s due, at least they tried to set expectations appropriately low lmao
My heart SANK when about three minutes in i saw the name "Eva Tamm", frantically googled her in fear, to have my suspicions confirmed. Tamm is a common Estonian surname, it means oak, which is the national tree. One of THREE Estonian characters I've encountered in non-estonian media, and she's in this game -_- literally fucking heart broken. The transphobia for one is distasteful, evidently. And you're telling me there's a Swedish and a Finnish character and they don't take the opportunity to use the characters' cultural backgrounds for interesting interactions? Na, why would a character who's been kidnapped try to connect with other kidnapped people from cultures they've likely interacted with before?! As an estonian Eva has likely visited Finland several times, and may have relatives in Sweden, for example. Also missed opportunity for the fact that Eva is a character from a small country many don't hear much of and an attention seeker. If her sounding like a valley girl were a purposeful creative choice maybe she's stripped herself of any indication she's Estonian to more easily fit the image she wants to present of herself. After all, not many would find an Estonian accent sexy. Her cultural background doesn't inform any of her actions, her characterisation or even her vocal performance. What was even the point? As I said, she's one of three Estonian characters I've seen in non-estonian media. I always get a little excited when I hear there's an Estonian character in something, and this time, I was right to feel horrified instead.
The thing about her being from a smaller, often neglected country is something they really could’ve done something with as a social media influencer character, especially given Estonia’s unique history with mass media as an SSR that could get some Western television signals through - of all countries, given the producers of the game - Finland. Hell, even just a joke about how she’s used to voting digitally could’ve been a silly little nod to Estonia’s e-government stuff. There’s a history there that could’ve been used to inform her character and her pursuits and tell a more interesting story about her, but instead you wouldn’t even know she was Estonian if she didn’t specifically tell you.
@@TheViveros Absolutely! And if they wanted to actually write character development they could have her arc be about learning to be proud of her culture instead of putting on a fake valley girl accent and trying to be as "generic influencer" as possible. They could have built off having a character who doesn't have an obvious tie to their cultural heritage by making it a narrative decision that goes somewhere instead of whatever the fuck they did. It wouldn't be unrealistic for a young person from a small country people rarely hear of to get one lick of "viral fame" and chase more of it to the detriment of expressing their own personality + cultural background. Competent writers could've done something with it. And having other European characters in the cast should've made any form of cultural reference easier, you'd think. An interaction between Lumi and Eva on how the former's family has gone on day trips to Estonia to buy cheaper booze, for instance, would be a no-brainer. You'd think having Finnish involvement in the game would make little facts/references like these beyond easy to implement.
@@kajakas_kulp Ah man. Estonia sounds cool, full of history and culture. I mean that seems obvious to every country that exists, but it truly is a challenge to make a character from a different country from your own. Like mannerisms, language, social interactions, even mixing media from other cultures into their own. I understand the frustration when they get most info from the first page of google.
Speaking of european interactions, isnt Isak Norwegian? And Annika is swedish? Norwegian and swedish are plausible to understand by ear, and finns(due to, uh, opression.) are usually educated to learn swedish. I feel like it couldve been a neat flavor to see some of our characters with similar languages speak in a different language to attempt to keep something on the down low? Or something? (Edit* seems like the greed ending the mafioso and the mechanic did speak a different language to hide what theyre talking about to hide it from harrison, so good on them ig.) Or like. bare bitch bonding over being from an area with cultural overlap. Or digs at each other. Most online finns I know take any opportunity to make fun of swedes(rightfully so), and god know swedes have a lot of shit to talk about its neighbours. Also, only vagely related: I, for one, am from sweden and greatly dislike heat, and moreso than being kidnapped and focibly stranded on an island, being forcibly stranded on a TROPICAL island?? Id die. Like, some skandinavians adore warm vacations, but fuck that noise, Id rather ski everyday for a week straight in fjällen again than travel anywhere near the equator again. All that to say: do the characters ever really remark anything about the locale? Comparisons to their homes, if theres anything they miss or prefer? Idk.
Talking about poor queer representation: Making Lumi, the "heartless" one (by the games own description at some point), asexual is also a reductive stereotype, so much so that I half expected it. Media often paints us as emotionless or at least unable to feel/express deeper emotion. It is very unsurprising that writers who clearly don't know what they're doing would fall back on that stereotype and make their only ace character sound apathetic af. I wouldn't be surprised if this bored/uninterested VA work isn't fully the actor's fault, because I would bet my month's salary that they asked her to make her character sound cold and emotionless.
I skimmed the comments before getting too far in the video, and only just got to the Wonderland dream so I'm not sure when that's mentioned, but...LUMI? "KILL ME WITH YOUR LOVE, I'M HERE FOR YOU TO USE" LUMI? Like it's clearly all in Harrison's head but is the choice to use the canon(?) ace character for THAT "side of temptation" ever interrogated?

GIVE HER BETTER WRITING/MORE STORY, PLEASE SHES THE BEST CHARACTER 2. make her nice/friendly/whatever, she doesn’t have to be monotone and all that…or MAKE HER SOCIALLY AWKWARD IN A NORMAL WAY 3. just remove the wonderland scene istg DONT DO MY GIRL LUMI LIKE THAT
him saying "crucification" 1:31:00 is so funny cuz that's just literally not a word. it's crucifixion. even looked it up to make sure it's not some lesser known version of the word.
After watching over the Alice thing again, I looked up Valérie's VA, and lo and behold, she's a singer. I can't help but think that the writers were like "well I guess we're contractually obligated to make her sing" but since it didn't fit Valérie's character very much, I wonder if this scene was the way they thought of to make use of her talent?
As someone whos favorite danganronpa characters are Gundham and Korekiyo, Isak feels like an attack on me personally. He really feels like a total misunderstanding of why both those characters are the way they are. He seems to have Gundham's outword personality, lacking any sense of subtilty, but Korekiyo's inward personality, or at least a surface level idea of both. But Isak doesn't have any of the nuance or depth of either. There is no reason why Isak is the way he is, which makes him far more boring of a character than either of them, and far less likeable. Gundham, by contrast, seems to act the way he does because of his own insecurity and distrust toward others. Gundham isn't a bad person, but he doesn't particularly like other people, and tends to get bullied, so he like he is better than everyone around him so he can brush off their insults as not mattering due to coming from someone beneath him. Once you get past his abrasiveness and eccentric personality, he is actually a genuinely good person. You can see it in the way he treats animals, as he feels they won't judge him or hurt him the way humans will. Isak seems to have none of that. None of the insecurity, none of the hidden kindness, he's just weird and unpleasant. Korekiyo, on the other hand, unlike Gundham, is entirely sincere in his presentation. He hides nothing (besides his face) and truly does not care what others think of him. He is eccentric, strange, and off-putting, but not because he tries to be. He just is. Isak is a little more similar to this, but still lacks the depth Korekiyo has. Isak is also more similar to Korekiyo in that they both seem to be a little sadistic (though Kiyo is also masochistic) and both seem to enjoy watching how everyone else handles the situation they've been put in. But, Korekiyo is more than these traits, where Isak seems to stop here. Korekiyo also has a deep, genuine love for humanity and all its facets. But also, Korekiyo is deeply traumatized, which lead to huge aspects of his personality. Though he is an unreliable narrator to his own story, what Korekiyo tells us about himself and his sister paint a very uncomfortable picture in which he certainly appears to be a victim. No matter how much he romanticizes it, it absolutely affected him negatively and lead to deep, lasting trauma which, after her death, lead to his unhinged ideas that lead to his crimes. There is a clear line of events which, if you trace it back, you can get some idea of who Korekiyo may have been before, or could be without the abuse he suffered. He may have actually been a good person, with how much love and care he showed his sick sister (which she very likely took advantage of. Remember, she is the older one, and he seems very subservient to her.) Isak, on the other hand, just seems like an asshole. None of the love, none of the passion, nothing that makes Gundham and Korekiyo interesting characters. At least, from how he was presented in his video. I can't fully judge without playing the game, but man, with how much I love these characters, I had to say something or the thoughts would rot in my brain forever.

In Danganronpa, you dread getting too attached to the characters in case the worst could happen to them - hoping beyond hope that some of your favorites survive.
In Inescapable, you start wishing a nuke would just drop on the island.
The game that makes you WISH Nagito was here to do exactly that
Honestly, DR's no better IMHO.

Ok so the lust route you can try to force Mia to kiss you (resulting in her rightfully slapping you and calling you a despicable monster) and in the trust route she reveals that a co worker tried to sexually assault her
so that makes the lust route even WORSE
Yeah the way lust was done was absolutely irredeemable. Like why the fuck did they choose lumi to be the horny one in dream sequence when she is canonically asexual… they could have chosen any of the other girls for it
also , something disgusting to know about annika's lust route!! As an artist, what pisses me off the most is that the art in the cgs and the sprites is not bad! I love the direction where they used "acrylic standee models" for the characters, I think it's charming
And yet it was wasted all on this horrible game.
Definitely. Some designs could be better (like Viveros said, to show the personalities of the characters) but I really like Lumi and Gio's designs
I love the acrylic standees, reminds me of dead of winter. I’d love to see that style used for another game

The other main one is the tea party scene, if I'd only described that without showing it I think a lot of people would've just assumed I was exaggerating for comedic effect.

i just wanna add (before having watched the video):
i was there when the casting call for this game dropped (PUBLIC casting call btw, on fuckin castingcallclub of all places), when it was just called "project daedalus" or something, and it gave off EVERY possible red flag to the point that it seemed like a complete scam and neither me nor my voice actor friends were interested in auditioning. there was no character art, and even weirder no character NAMES (it was all "sweet attentive swedish maid" or "introverted nerdy british boy", which is VERY rare for games like this), the lines were absolutely atrocious and all seemed like such ai-generated stereotypes based on whatever the archetype was (there was one listed as like latvian nonbinary engineer or something that was straight up "i can be whatever you want me to be, darling ;)" which, as a nonbinary person, raised some. concerns.), but weirdest of all was the pay; it was listed as "$1,000 / finished hour" which is INSA N E for a project of this scale. and again, this was on CASTINGCALLCLUB, the website where mostly beginner voice actors audition for small indie stuff or fan projects (or dozens upon dozens of gacha life animations). and they were AMBITIOUS. asking for different accents on i'm pretty sure every single character, and making it clear this would be a project (so a LOT of work on the actor's end most likely). like. i just really need to emphasize. i don't know if they got a voice director, but based on how poorly their casting call was formatted, i highly suspect it was all self-directed on the actor's end, which, in a character-based visual novel where every character is supposed to have extreme personalities and distinct accents, is . and obviously they were asking for accents or nationalities that they know next to nothing about, hence how wonky all the accents and pronunciations are
ALL THIS TO SAY:
that's why the voice acting is Like That. and i do not mean this as a dig at the actors themselves; just at the devs and writers for handling this about as poorly as a voice acting project could be handled. if i got handed a script for "pampered french teen business heiress" without proper guidance i would probably set on fire
Honestly this does a lot to explain why they’re Like That, but also good god that sounds insane
honestly some of the voices in the video actually sound kinda good? if they weren't such insane scripts and in such a joke of a game. i hope the VAs can get better roles in the future because it sounds like with a bit more experience, proper direction and a serious project (as in something being produced seriously and professionally) they could really shine
hahaha you and me both. my friend even had to twitter DM dreamloop to ask about it.
Was gonna come comment on this point. My issue with the voices is less the actors but the direction they were given which was none.
I've never heard of Casting Call Club... is it any good to find resources?
the fact 3 out of 4 routes involve isak rizzing women is actually hysterical.

He's so real for that, actually
Tbf it’s the same woman but I also refuse to believe this dude has rizz.
He also has a strong design and his voice acting slaps. They had it all and threw it away!
oh shit, and then they could have hinted at him talking up how important and wonderful family is, but have him only ever do that with the kids, never his wife... minor point, but showing some struggles with the wife, but the kids are his life would fit it
tbh I feel like the "Killing game with no game concept" seems so funny and unhinged like
"You'll be forced to play a game of life or death!
"A game that will make you...."
"...."
"What were the rules again?"
"What do you mean? I thought you were the one deciding the game"
"I was one responsible for choosing the location and kidnapping the people you were the one choosing it!"
"ARE YOU SAYING I GOT A BUNCH OF STOCKED FOOD FOR NOTHING BECAUSE YOU DECIDED TO BE INCOMPETENT AND NOT DO YOUR JOB?"
and then it could have both of the headmaster try to figure out what game they should play and either have them making shit up on the post or just changing it every 5 seconds so no one knows how to win, if you do it properly it could be a interesting premise
Somebody take Faulerro's place and make a Danganronpa series like this

Ideally for me personally, they'd cast people from the places they're trying ro convey, which it seems they did with some of them. But at the very least, for how much the game costs, they could have done some accent coaching or hired people with more experience in accent work.
It's kind of funny how the accents seem to be on one or the other as far as the scale of quality. It's especially unfortunate that the main protagonist is so bad.

I genuinely respect you for being willing to sit through the video, because I think if I were in your shoes I probably would’ve had to turn it off.
The fucking weirdest thing about this is that the studio isn't american. It's fucking finnish.
Media like this is part of the reason why I have a cynical attitude towards representation in media.
@@indigomizumi I mean, when you think about it, it's kind of ironically embedded to the concept of representation in media:
Representation requires the experience from the side that is represented, NOT the side that observed them, as it can have skewed perspectives and not have the full picture.
But since most people that are in control of the media's narrative, writing and visual/audial expression never experienced those represented moments, by the nature of the representative usually being a minority and/or treated unequally, or they more often then not get it wrong.
In short, The fact that we want to represent something means that the people which create that representation likely aren't part of it due to the fact the represented are not equal in amount and status, and that can make the representation incorrect
Moreover, even consulting only a single or few represented people about can also go awry, as most representation aren't one sides to fit all, Like how all Autistics or all Asexual are different and experienced different things.

As for the remaining lust endings;
The special CG you get with Anikka shows Harrison ordering her around in their house.

Weirdest part about her is that in the Casting Call Club for this game, they literally describe her as a "lolita"...

Yeah like if it was a reality show that *became* a killing game because of desperation it could be really compelling.
That wouldn’t really happen in a danganronpa game because of the whole only one person can be the blackened.

That fishing minigame is the most atrocious rhythm game I've ever seen
It's genuinely baffling how bad it is. And it's not like it just gets desynced from the music if you sit on the starting screen for too long, because it'll hold off on actually giving you the notes until it thinks it's hit a point that it should come in at. If it turned out that that section was programmed with a different song and then it randomly got swapped to that one it would make so much more sense.
Especially when the "good" "great" "perfect" text appears OVER WHERE THE NOTES COME FROM, BLOCKING YOUR VIEW??? WHY COULDNT IT HAVE BEEN UNDERNEATH
It really took the "worst rhythm minigame" crown from the skyward sword harp strumming 💀
@@beingmegucaissuffering.5326 and, mind you, the harp strumming is like 10 minutes max of gameplay. If anything, the pumpkin balancing minigame was far more annoying
Its also the most terrible fishing minigame ive ever seen too, amazing how they did a twofer with that
"Which IS deeply relateable as someone who also doesn't like Harrison."

as someone who's portuguese, francisca's romance route being "garagem da vizinha" is a reference to the song by quim barreiros that is basically about the singer and the neighbour having an affair
and personally i need francisca to be in a better game than this PLEASE ill save you francisca ,..,..
i legit burst out laughing when i heard her go "FILHOS DA PUTA" essa gaja é do norte caralho ahhahaaha
help when she yelled “FODA-SE” i laughed so hard i wheezed and started coughing . shes actually iconic 😭😭
I CAN FIX HER (put her in a better game)
@@blueberrymuffin_144 AND IT WAS ALSO A GOOD FODA-SE. Man, this might be the most wasted portuguese character in existance, please put her in a better game...
put her gio and annika in a dangan fan game that actually knows wtf it's doing and all of them are fan favorites instantly
Great video I loved this lmao-
I wish this game was better, it makes me angry how it's made so poorly it reads as actively hostile to what it tries to represent.
Overall the set up was so good it's just butchered by poor execution and dumb decisions by the creators
this is EXACTLY HOW I FEEL AJJDKAHDJ
When I first played the demo, I thought to myself "This game has no potential". Like, I felt like there was no inciting incedant and that they literally had zero motives to murder each other. Watching this I felt validated on the "no incentive to murder" part lol
Okay this is a huge nitpick and not even THAT bad in comparison to the more egregious writing, but a huge pet peeve of mine and what signals to me that someone is VERY bad at character writing is making bad Likes/Dislikes.
Notice how nearly every characters’ profiles have like a fun fact, little trivia thing for their Likes (usually favorite foods, hobbies, etc.) but their dislikes are almost always abstract concepts that are representative of their core belief system (Harrison being “loneliness”, Daan being “unfairness”, Gio being “heroes”, etc.)
Sasha’s likes/dislikes are hilariously non descriptive too, like yeah we can tell that the pervert hacker likes mischief and “your annoyed face” and dislikes direct conflict. Do they have a character OUTSIDE of that basic premise? Like maybe Sasha likes drag shows? This would allude to how they quote RuPaul all the time.
I don’t even *like* Danganronpa that much anymore but compare this to any of those characters:
Mondo Oowada owns a miniature dog named Chuck which contributes to dispelling his image of a hardened delinquent, Sonia Nevermind, in the original JPN text, frequently swears in English, which is a funny personality quirk and also makes sense considering she’s a world leader.
it reminds me of my first deviantart ocs tbh. They all hated, like.. "mean people" or some shit lmfao
Sonia unironically spouting "Jesus shit son of a bitch!" lives rent free in my mind even after all these years
also sonia likes serial killers, and occult stuff! you wouldn't guess that from her appearance, talent, or how she behaves most times
This man is a vocal chimera
@@nerdychocobo its just like tracers issue from ow lol we need more british vas for british characters

THAT WOULD BE SUCH A COOL CONCEPT
Everyone would choose Harrison to be put out of this misery sooner, though.
@@shytendeakatamanoir9740 well this hypothetical is assuming the game wasn't trash, so still cool in concept!
Harrison's English accent is so bad to a degree that I have rarely seen
Everything about it down to the way he say "innit" is simply wrong in the stupidest way possible. It's almost funny at points
out of all of the ways I've heard american people say innit as a joke, even in *purposefully bad ways*, it has never sounded as awful and unnatural as the way Harrison said it
I'd honestly rather just be called a slur than be called a bruv by the least bruv-sounding motherfucker this side of the prime meridian
He sounds more like he's autotuned, honestly. I'm British and I would not have even guessed this guy was British if you hadn't told me. Getting to the "innit" was like a slap in the face omg
@@TheViveros As a Brit, that comment fucking sent me. Thank you.
Isak is actually rather funny ingame unintentionally. The less everyone takes him seriously the better it makes him look imo
You say "I thought it was written by someone on 4chan" but 4channers wrote Katawa Shoujo, a game with genuinely incredible disability rep
And Snoot Game, with (arguably) solid LGBTQ+ introspection
The irony is delicious.
Idk.
@@TheViveros That makes me VERY tempted to make an original Estonian character purely based off this idea. THAT SOUNDS SO INTERESTING, GENUINELY.
Talking about poor queer representation:
Making Lumi, the "heartless" one (by the games own description at some point), asexual is also a reductive stereotype, so much so that I half expected it.
Like it's clearly all in Harrison's head but is the choice to use the canon(?) ace character for THAT "side of temptation" ever interrogated?

since I’m bored, here’s how I think lumi could be fixed!
1. GIVE HER BETTER WRITING/MORE STORY, PLEASE SHES THE BEST CHARACTER
2. make her nice/friendly/whatever, she doesn’t have to be monotone and all that…or MAKE HER SOCIALLY AWKWARD IN A NORMAL WAY
3. just remove the wonderland scene istg DONT DO MY GIRL LUMI LIKE THAT
him saying "crucification" 1:31:00 is so funny cuz that's just literally not a word. it's crucifixion. even looked it up to make sure it's not some lesser known version of the word.
The timestamp is wrong the scene is at 1:12:38 but I agree the incorrect word/mispronunciation made me laugh so hard
Remember, she is the older one, and he seems very subservient to her.)
Isak, on the other hand, just seems like an asshole. None of the love, none of the passion, nothing that makes Gundham and Korekiyo interesting characters. At least, from how he was presented in his video. I can't fully judge without playing the game, but man, with how much I love these characters, I had to say something or the thoughts would rot in my brain forever.
Well said 👏🏼
