    This product was first introduced years ago from the UK as a Breakaway Canon. But thanks to the oversea asian market illegally copying that copyrighted products (like the Whopper Plopper Lure was) it's being offered under a lot of different names at a lower MSRP than the original product was. So i combined several different videos from when it first came out, to spin casting in the field to the present products to help give you a better understanding of how to mount & use this cast control device.

    Great instructions and information. I have mobility issues as well as a lot of nerve damage to my arms & hands. I want to fish, but it's difficult to get the casting that I want. Hopefully this casting trigger will translate to my light, freshwater panfish & bass rods.

      I'm sorry to hear that. Really. I almost died from getting the bends from a shark attack that left me with partial nerve & mobility issues for the rest of my life. My left arm still shakes after all these years. Watch my videos. You'll see my left side still having issues but it's a daily battle for me. I have issues even holding up a fishing reel. But i fight this every day of my life.

    Great bit of kit, those Breakaway Canons - I think we have chatted about them before Chris. They work well with Mono too - I don't use Braid. I've got one on most of my surf rods. I always mount mine below the reel, because I'm Left handed, and it makes it easier if a Right handed person wants to use my rods.
    Someone said to wrap a couple of turns of electrical tape around the rod before mounting the Canon - I did that, and when I came to remove the Canon to sell the rod, it took the decals off the rod, so that wasn't a great idea. Best wishes for the New Year, stay safe & well - Dave. 🎣🎣👍👍

    Hi Chris love the content you produce certainly different to how we fish in AU and have picked up some great tips from you. Just a quick question on the Breakaway Cannon on all the video demos I have seen nothing is ever mentioned about where the drag setting should on your reel prior to casting heavy weights do you need to tighten down the drag before casting and then turn back to your normal setting? I use a Finger Stall for casting off the beach and always tighten drag prior to a cast to stop slippage but am interested in trying this product. Cheers

      I'm sorry, i'm used to this product & never shared what i've learned about that. It totally depends on the casted weight. If it's less than 3oz just take a single wrap around the nob of the Casting Trigger. But anything heavier in weight i always take 2 wraps. The original Breakaway Canon never rusts so i don't have to worry about fraying my line. But those cheap knock-offs will rust after 6-months. Many users have told me this. All my original Breakaway Canons from roughly 6yr ago have absolutely NO RUST. The illegal cheap copycats do rust. So in the long run purchasing those cheaply made overseas units will end-up costing more. I've tried finger gloves but still like using these Canons more.

    In south africa most of the high class surf rod come with the cannon molded on to the rod. Have a look we have thecassian rods. And okumia rods plus others design for south african condition

      Yes, i've noticed that for years sir. When i do casting vids it's purely for my viewers. I don't use or need them. Been doing this since i was 8yrs. I've learned through trial and error on how to cast long & safely on nylon, mono & fluoro. I've a box somewhere of them but i just give them out (what's left). I'm not the best long distance caster in my group but i'm up there. Have permanent neurological damage to my left side due to a near fatal case of the bends from a shark attack when i was younger. My left side is now 90-95% talking w/my right. Only my left arm isn't talking much. Just look at my vids. On almost everyone you'll see my left arm shaking w/no weight. Was worse before.

    Can the breakaway cannon be used with 30-40lb Mono also ?
    Or just braid.

    • @ScubaChris
      @ScubaChris  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mostly for braid but also mono as well.

    those breakaway cannons are amazing but they rust and break ive bought like 4 of them and they just break because there is like a metal rod that holds up the trigger and that rusts. wish there was a better built one.

    • @ScubaChris
      @ScubaChris  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sounds like you bought knock-offs. The ones i got came from the originators in the UK. Everything else is cheap asian knock-offs. The originals were called Breakaway Canon. In the USA try facebook.com/BreakawayUSA

      I'm in the UK, I've bought a few of them from Norman at Breakaway tackle, and never had a genuine one rust yet. As Chris said, loads of cheap copies about.

    • @ScubaChris
      @ScubaChris  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@normalman23 The metal rod does look the same but obviously hasn't gone through the tempering as the originals did. For me i'm sticking with these originals. I hate seeing oversea copy-cats steal someone else's design for profit. Hard to enforce Patent Laws in China & elsewhere. Look at the Whopper Plopper lures. Another example of pirated Copy Righted products being exploited overseas.

      @@trampster7306 I'll always try to buy the originals of anything. Not fair that thieves are getting rich off someone else's work & finances.

    What kind of bells are you using?

    • @ScubaChris
      @ScubaChris  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your typical one-way bells. They're distributed in all Hawaii retail stores by Izuo Brothers. I think my friend Bill Newton sells them online. Links are in my videos.

    How are zip ties not easier than cheap looking electrical tape?

    • @ScubaChris
      @ScubaChris  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I've tried that. No way will you get it tight enough as the thicknesses keep changing. Look at the foot, it's slanted at an angle. But putting a single layer of tape over it helps & you need to cross-tie strap it. Look at my vids, i've shown that already. TY.
