    As a southpaw, I see a whole different advantage to that gizmo! Right-handers wouldn't notice, but the direction the line winds on and off the spool of all spinning reels is the wrong direction for holding/releasing with the left hand. Take my word for it, that is a very cool idea for correct handed people like me!!

    I bought one of those a couple of month's ago to test out. You really feel like there is nothing holding you back on a cast and can really put some muscle behind a throw. I used electrical tape to secure it to the rod and only loop it around once. Works like a champ. Going to buy another one for my other 'heaver'.

    Been using my Breakaway Cannon for years - love it. I would recommend when you're using more then 4-5 ounces using a shock leader (a mono or floro leader that is long enough to wrap around the spool twice in the "cast ready" position - it should be 1 1/2 times lb. rating of main line - ex. 20 lb. main line / 50 lb. shock leader). That way you won't bonk your buddy with the weight when it snaps off when your loading the rod trying to hit that aircraft carrier.

    • @neil1150

      More sensible if using a powerful cast on a big lead, shock leader should have 10lb of breaking strain for each ounce of weight bing cast.

    • @prynceal6762
      @prynceal6762 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point but only reason I disagree is because you will be using some type of line to line knot that will have to travel thru your guides and with casting heavy weight that line is traveling at a high speed, when the knot meets a few guides the line between the knot and the spool began to slow down and increases the chances of the dreaded wind-knots.

    The official instructions are to wrap the line around the spindle once. However, if your drag is fully tightened simply arching the line over the spindle and setting the trigger is all that’s needed. It’s quicker to set, and the reel prevents any slippage. Works for righties and lefties.
    It also is ok to install the trigger a couple inches up from the reel if that’s a more comfortable hand position for you.
    The things work like champ!

    I don't mean to hijack this post but the tool that you're using is known as a bionic finger. It's not really necessary to add it to a light spinning rod as you not really gonna throw heavy lures and baits with it and the chances of you cutting yourself is very rare. It's more comfortable and quicker to use a casting glove with lighter braids up to 0.24mm. Here in South Africa we normally equip our large grinder setups with bionic fingers due to us throwing larger baits with sinkers ranging from 5ounce to 9ounces. Another tip when casting is not to throw straight from behimd you but to rather swing the rod around you causing the extra momentum to make you lure/bait fly larger distances. Cheers all the way from South Africa

    • @saltwater_addict742
      @saltwater_addict742 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh and there's no need to wrap it twice, once is enough due to less friction breaking the initial swing.

    • @KayakhacksFishing
      @KayakhacksFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Interesting name! I was not aware of that. I only use this on my heavy surf rods because, as you point out, it is not needed elsewhere. I tried not wrapping but the Ardent Gliss line is so slick that I had to wrap once to make it work. Thank you for the casting tip!

    I used one of these, unfortunately, holed a US submarine with a 6 ounce pyramid sinker, I didn't see, sank it.
    Go figure.

    If you want to improve on your surf casting distance look up this ol British man named John Holden. It was a game changer for me.

      Lol! I am still trying to mimic his pendulum cast!

      @@KayakhacksFishing main thing is making sure your left hand is doing a good amount of lever work and your right hand is treating the rod like a spear.. when you are casting you're casting mainly with your right arm.. I can see it when you cast. Try doing the movement slow and with no weight or anything on your line just doing the movement of casting without casting anything out or being concerned about the pendulum aspect but just the left acting as a lever and the right as a spear thrower not casting all in the right.. do this a few times before you actually cast and then try.. I taught my nephews like this and they learned within minutes.

    Not judging, but....your casting form is a bit awkward. If ya use a pendulum cast off the beach, you'll get even more distance on your casts. Just saying...........

      I have been trying to master the pendulum. It is much better than what I do now. Practice!!

      I cast pendulum, with 50lb or 70lb leader, straight over head, Method: leader 1,5 times length of rod, pull rod back over head, let sinker lie on the sand, rod tip probably 700mm from sand, step back about 500mm. now cast straight over your head, the bait and sinker will give extra pendulum action, let go at 45degrees, with braid and good rod you'll get 100m - 150m. easy. When you cast straight over head, you also have total control of direction. So the okes next to you don't have to duck.

    Just tape your finger, if you have such delicate index finger. Simplify.

    If you cast any further, you might want to warn China.

    Sorry, I just don't buy that you're worried about bonking a some sailor on a ship out in the ocean! Still, think I'll try this out.

    Cool device, but Steve Sherron might block you from his channel for using it. May not be Alpha Male approved.

    No way in hell are you going to cast that distance. I don't care what "gadget" you use.
    Also, if your finger is that tender, maybe you should learn to use a baitcaster or a spincaster.
