    Had leg cramps at night my whole life. My job requires standing for long hours - I don't drink enough water in a day either. I finally solved the problem by taking 400mg, 2x per day of Magnesium. I don't dare miss my daily dose or it's almost a guarantee that leg cramps will wake me up at night.

      Well, for years I've also taken MAGNESIUM in the evening for the same reason. Then about 6 months ago I tried MAGNESIUM LOTION. OMG!! I had zero expectations. I slathered this stuff on one night, mostly back of my legs, lower back, and inside of elbow. Dear baby Jesus! In less than an hour I got SOOO sleepy, I fell asleep in a chair for hours, which I never do. Finally got to bed and slept another 9 hours, which is unheard of. But it was the quality of the deep sleep I had missed for years that really struck me. Now, I use it sparingly unless I know I need that extra sleep, in which case I use extra lotion. I don't need blood tests to tell me it works!

    I found that hot water like in a hot tub will almost relieve cramps instantly. Since I no longer have that, I use a heat pack. I have had leg cramps since I was a child. I am now 80 and knock on wood, I haven’t had any for a while.

      I've had them since I was a child. Even had a doctor tell my mother it was just growing pains she just walks around too much. Then in my adulthood when I was having my gallbladder removed my doctor told me my body was low and magnesium and when I looked up some of the symptoms leg cramps was right at the top of the list followed by heart palpitations from. Doctors today don't know shit about food or nutrition or vitamins and supplements. Today I take 400 mg of magnesium daily everyday for the past 20 years. And not magnesium oxide either that's scraping the bottom of the barrel I take magnesium citrate or better such as chelate or tartrate

    When I worked at a gym, using the jacuzzi there helped my muscle cramps. Though, working at the gym, and working out there, was also the cause of my muscle cramps. And they're right that stretching the cramping muscle immediately can stop the cramp. But it has to be immediately. Once it was fully cramped was too late for me. By then, only the jacuzzi helped.
    PS, I've used the ACV for restless legs. It helps. But pickle juice helped even more. So, maybe pickle juice would help with leg cramps, too.

    Bay leaf tea! After years of nighttime leg cramps, I read an article about bay leaf tea. Being blessed with a ten-metre bay hedge, it was an easy option - and it works! Luckily, I love the aroma of bay leaf and it’s easy-peasy to make. I cut 5 leaves into a pan of boiling water, lower the gas and let it simmer for approximately 6 minutes. Smells great, tastes good and I haven’t had cramps for over a year ☺️. Apparently, the leaves are rich in magnesium. I did try magnesium supplements once, several years ago; made no difference (except to my bank balance!).

    I've had very painful leg and feet cramps at night for years. Magnesium helps (I take it daily) to minimize the incidence of them occuring, but only heat helps once they start. Stretching won't work them out. I have a large microwave heating pad I keep next to my bed. I sometimes have to repeat the treatment a few times. But it really works!

    I have cerebral palsy and I struggle with leg cramps and spasms. I have tried lots of home remedies. Heat helps the most as well as homeopathic OTC's. I take a magnesium supplement and in an emergency pickle juice will help stop a leg cramp. It probably works on the same premise as the apple cider vinegar, all I know is it works for me.

    Thank you so much for your valuable information vids. What about inner thigh cramping?

    • @allannaguit358
      @allannaguit358 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used to get those, especially in the middle of the night. In my case, I found that I'd get inner-thigh cramps because my thigh muscles were tightly wound, usually from a longish bike ride during the day. One evening I was sitting down watching TV after a bike-ride day, dreading yet half-resigned to suffering another 3am cramp, when I decided to dig a thumb into my thigh just above my knee and the muscle started jumping around - a big reaction. It felt weird but kind of good so I kept digging. Eventually, the muscle relaxed and stopped reacting so much to the massage. So I dug my thumbs into other parts of my thigh chasing those "wriggles" until I'd covered and relaxed the muscles of pretty much the whole thigh. Then, I did the same to my other leg. When I extended the massage to the inner thighs (using my fingertips this time) I found I had to be careful not to overdo it or I might actually trigger a cramp. Well, that night I didn't get the dreaded post-ride cramps, wonder of wonders. So I massaged again the next night, and again escaped any cramps. And now it's a habit; I take a few minutes and massage my thighs as part of my pre-bed ritual. I also do it during the day whenever they feel a bit tight. It took maybe a week of daily massages before I found that my thighs were basically relaxed even before I start the massage (from the lack of muscles jumping around). I've been inner-thigh cramp-free for several months now. I already hydrate and stretch regularly, but these thigh massages were the real fix for me. Hope this helps!

I massage her during attack and cover her with those foams you spoke of and they do help.( considering the pain, they work rather fast) Will try that as preventive. @@anyascelticcreations I sleep with a loose (not tucked under the mattress like a lot of people do) top sheet. The end of the top sheet is tucked under my feet. When I occasionally feel a cramp while sleeping, I just pull the sheet hard which causes my toe to be pulled back and that fixes the cramp.

    I have had calf and foot cramping issues the last 2+ years. I just thought it was from overuse (marathon/half training and races) and due to adding calf raises to my workouts. Or from being dehydrated. So I just tried to drink even more and massage but neither seems to help much, if at all. I never thought about a possible circulation issue. I am super active and thought only sedentary people have those issues. I have also noticed more and more if I squat down to do something and then stand up I get dizzy for a bit. I know that is usually something to do with blood pressures but not sure how to make it stop happening. Some people say it is normal, but I am not sure about that.

      Have somebody help you. Lay down on your back with your legs straight out. They will sit at your feet and gently push your foot to the side (inward). You should feel it in your tibialis anterior. Do this for each leg one at a time. This is a move I do for clients. Bonus round: Have both feet pointed inward at each other.
      You can also strip the muscle by placing your thumb at the shin bone and going to the outer side up and down from ankle to knee. You'll feel the separation between muscle and bone as you do it and it feels GREAT even better when someone else does it.

      Supplement with electrolytes. There are many brands on the market, just make sure there's plenty of potassium and magnesium as they are the biggies. (Most people aren't going to be low on sodium because of modern diet, but the electrolyte drinks have that as well so you're covered.)
      For immediate relief, try direct heat. Put a small rag in hot water, put it in a zip-lock bag and place where it hurts. Some people claim that cold works (not my experience) so if heat doesn't then try cold. If heat does work it will only 'soften' the cramped area.
      If you sweat, urinate, vomit or have diarrhea you will lose water and the water will carry away electrolytes with it. You will have to replace those, either with a high-quality diet or supplements.

    • @trelligan42
      @trelligan42 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      NOTE: My other reply assumes that you have a palpable muscle cramp and nothing else. There are organs (mostly intestines) that can cause pain, and muscles can cramp because of other pain nearby. Your body is trying to 'hold everything tight' to prevent further damage.
      If you have had this before (and survived this far) you're probably okay, but consider visiting a doctor to rule out this possibility.

    I have found putting some old wine corks in the bed help stop my leg cramps. It could be psychosomatic - I don't care. It works for me.

    My cousin, who was a marathoner all of his life, swore by yellow mustard. When he got a cramp, he would eat packets of mustard. It works on the same principle of breaking the brain-muscle connection, just like apple cider. I've run into enough different people who swear by it, that there must be something to it, but it's never worked for me. I keep an elastic band next to my bed and when I get a cramp, I use it to stretch the muscles.
