I am sure most people will point to the 660 and 700 versions as being head and shoulders above the original 600 model, and I would mostly agree. However, the 600 was at least one of the early if not the first of the big bore atv's. It had a rougher ride and was not as powerful as future models, but being a solid axle you were able to slide the rear end around like a giant version of a sport atv. In fact I never had trouble keeping up with friends that had sport atv's unless it was a banshee lol. It was the foundation of a legendary atv, and a very fun atv to own.
Nice video. A mention of Cannondale and the 400EX would have been cool. The EX was the first new sport quad offered after the consent decree expired. Speaking of consent decree, three wheelers were not banned. The manufacturers admitted no guilt. They agreed to stop making them to avoid litigation.

@@DirtObseXXion Yup. You're right. In the days before indoor plumbing, the ladies refused to go out in the middle of the cold winter night for a pee, so a used honey can (usually sold in one gallon cans) was placed somewhere in the house and emptied in the morning (usually by the adoring husband of course - lol). In today's world, the term "Honey Wagon" is slang for a vehicle used to collect raw sewage from septic tanks. Also known as a septic truck.

Three wheelers were never banned, as you say in your video. Public opinion about them, pressure from Uncle Sam, and the forth wheel introduced by Suzuki is what ended the 3-wheeler run. To this day, you can still manufacture in the US and sell three wheelers. The only ban related to 3-wheelers was in the 2000s when Honda and Kawasaki lobbied the US to ban the importation of 3-wheelers from China. But this was only because they didn’t want Chine to cut into their 4-wheeler market share.
I belive I said the Consent Decree "essentially" banned them. If nor, that'swhat I meant... But I thought mass production of 3wheelers is banned now, I believe since 2008.. They can be built, but can't be produced in any quantity, so that's why we see the one off builds and trike kits..
Good video, I would like to add the 1985 Honda Big Red 250es, its iconic in the early days of atc/atv development, The Suzuki 125 may have been the first to 4 wheel's it was still dominated by the Big Red ATC 200es (84) and the 250es (85-87). Thanks for sharing.

I thought about the Thundercat when I made this but I figured a bigger wasn't really an innovation, so the Prairie 650 represented because it was the first twin.. Good point on CanAm though..
The Suzuki lt 125 was pull start I know I had one.
and I believe that they were a 4 speed auto clutch with reverse
@@nick044 no it was 5 speed and I also remember the the reverse was a RED T handle right behind the pull start and you pulled it up to go into reverse .
@@crazyflyboy30 I know about the red handle but on my lt125 it goes L (1) N 2 3 4
@@crazyflyboy30 nevermind. I stand corrected. Its L N 1 2 3 4
Liked it! Good onfo.
Thanks!
Missed the 1988 trx 300 which is most sold and reliable atv of all time.
Longlivethefourtrax250r
230 Quad Sport was the best all around back then.
No criticism... good job.. i just thought all the years where a year earlier then when i remember but i could be wrong. ❤ my YTM225dr
👍
Thanks!
I'd like to see more on the trx250r. I don't think theres a single model that has been more successful racing.
I think anyone who knows anything about ATVs would have to agree
@@DirtObseXXion most likely, unless you're new to the game..it's a new hobby to some folks, other folks like me, a broke teenager in the 90s could only dream. Until the 450r came out in 04', if you went to an ATV mx race, most of the atv's were trx250r's.
Was Yamaha not the first to have suspension and shaft drive on the 3 wheelers
No debate over floorboards vs footpegs?
Footpegs! Well, on a sport quad anyway
Can't remember my comments from last time, but I know they were good, so . . . same same!
I'll even give you another thumbs up - lol
Same same is good! Thanks Q! Did you see the words of wisdom in the description?
@@DirtObseXXion
LMAO! Too funny! I read the descriptions 95% of the time, but in this case I only read "Re-upload!!!! I got called out and had to change some information" and then stopped - DOH!!!! If I would have kept reading, I would have made a comment about it for sure, so . . . good catch on your part & thanx!
You do know what a "honey can" refers to right?
@@quaddingsous well I assumed it was a sh*ter... Please tell!
@@DirtObseXXion
Yup.
You skipped over the 400ex. The rebirth of the sports quad.
Not technically an innovation.. I'd put that in most influential tho.. This video was an experiment to see if the format would do ok... It hasn't done very well tho..
Dirt ObseXXion I Loved it. I had no idea about that three wheeled cart thing.... fascinating. By the way, I also wish the big 4 would sack up and make sport quads again..... I ride a bone stock 88 250r, love it.
@@ronaldtartaglia4459 That's awesome! I'd love to see sport quads make a come back.. I work for ATVonDemand too, we're really big on vintage and sport machines...
Dirt ObseXXion I love that channel. I told the guys at bvc to let Rob Ray test their new trikes..... no response though.
@@ronaldtartaglia4459 He's outta the game anyway.. Body cant take it anymore.. Dude was a ripper tho!
No mention of the Odyssey? 😂
Eew no.. That's a SXS
What about the yamaha banshee 350 twin atv yes it's sport atv though
My 1985 lt125 has 10inch rims on it
You forgetting about the honcho 4x4 the first 4 wheel drive atv
Nice!
What about the Kawasaki bayou 300 and 220
Good video, I would like to add the 1985 Honda Big Red 250es, its iconic in the early days of atc/atv development, The Suzuki 125 may have been the first to 4 wheel's it was still dominated by the Big Red ATC 200es (84) and the 250es (85-87). Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! Good addition!
Grizzly.....yes EPS is a key innovation to an ATV. The people who knock it have never really tried an EPS equipped machine-especially after a full day ride
Definitely agree!
interesting.
Thanks
👍👍👍
Thanks Doc!
You four got Honda fourtrax 300
Honda Fourtrax 300 4wd and Yamaha Wolverine 350 4wd.
No way ATV history can be summed up in 7 1/2 minutes.
Just some firsts along the way..
You missed the yamaha moto4 and big bear.
Missed 400ex and 2001 raptor 660
I own a Suzuki LT125D I pulled out of a ditch at my hunting cabin along anybody another Suzuki fourwheeler
I think Arctic Cat was the First 1000 ATV.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure the thundercat was first 1000cc.. It was torque tho, and only 63hp
1985 yamaha yfm200 should have made the list
Should have mentioned the honda oddesey 350
Can't in good conscience mention something with a steering wheel... You're right tho, I should have mentioned it
You should have said the 90’s Honda fourtrax 300
You're right, I have that one covered in a upcoming vid though.. Awesome machine
You skipped the 99 400ex
Yeah that could've made it based on importance to the market alone..
@@DirtObseXXion it helped respark the industry
@@cbr600rrturbo Definitely
First real four-wheeler was Rupp Corporation Mansfield Ohio
Yeah I've heard...We'll have to through a mass produced or major manufacturer in there i guess... At least the tricart was in it..
Wonder why Suzuki never made a side×side???
Because Suzuki is awesome and SXSs suck.. 😁
@@DirtObseXXion oh ok!!
N I'm here with my Lil Ozark 250 ltf
What about lt230s quadsport ?
That should've been in here, I agree... If it's any consolation we're doing a bit of a restore on one for ATVonDemand.. Probably going to be a summer video

They skipped a bunch of Honda’s atv’s. The Trx 125 and the trx 250x and 250ex
We weren't trying to be comprehensive, just covering some key benchmarks
Honda 300 fourtrax fw 4x4
The lt125 did not have electric start
What the fucking hell what about the Kawasaki Bayou
Recon 250
Yamaha moto 4
honcho 4x4??
You're a deep diver eh? Not many folks have heard of a Honcho! From what understand they were never really production ATVs.. Kind of piecemeal productions for the most part.. Still probably a story worth telling if I can find some footage..
Banshee.
I beg you pardon?? First haha
Pardon Granted! LOL! Thanks Pisty!
The LT125 never have electric start.
Damn, my bad.. Thanks
I said the same thing because I have one and most of my friends.
Awesome little history lesson....but I am sorry to say I am boycotting the channel until I see the pink bikini jump video happening. 😜
Ha! Thanks dude! Bikini may have to be summer time project!
