I highly recommend you go to a diesel shop and get a diesel programmer. It will help you get much better fuel mileage. Also I do recommend if your going to do a lot of cold weather camping a diesel engine pre heater, it saves a lot of wear and tear on the engine. I also recommend you get a diesel heater for the truck camper it will save you plus cuts down on condensation from propane heat, also a small dehumidifier will help save you from mildew that causes mold. Last thing get a froli system for under your mattress or a dricore Matt. No joke the underside of your mattress will grow mold quickly you need to get something that allows air under the mattress. Oh and if you do run into an issue of your tanks freezing it lines freezing they have tank warmers that are super low wattage heat pads designed for campers as well as heated water lines and heated hoses. Sorry that’s a lot but basics for you that I picked up from many other full time truck camper owners that do northern winters in their truck campers.

We chose a Truck Camper for the same reasons. We survived 2 winters in Canada and offer tips for making it in -40 weather on our channel. The toughest part is finding places for dumping tanks and filling up on water. You may want to look into Mount Washington on Vancouver Island. When we lived in Victoria we would drive up there to ski for the day and enjoy the most natural snow of any mountain in North America. Bonus part is when you are off the mountain, there is no snow so easy to find water and a dumping station. And lots of off-grid camping spots that are free (ioverlander). In Alberta Lethbridge has the best setup for winter access to water and waste disposal. Good luck, enjoy the lifestyle and we look forward to following along.😃
We’ve heard similar things about dumping too, we’re hoping to find some campgrounds every so often that still have their dumping available through winter every so often to also charge up our batteries, but we’ll most likely still be figuring that out when the time comes 😁 we’re avid users of iOverlander and are wanting to explore Vancouver island at some point too! Get yourself a Hellwig Big Wig sway bar. It will stop most of the side to side sway. Along with the other suggestion about stable load spring engagement devices you will be rock solid.
Airbags are not really the option to steady the sway. Get your springs updated by a real spring shop and consider a good hellwig sway bar setup. Also Bilstien or Fox shocks are choice for on and off road stability. Get your loaded truck weight including a full tank of fuel. It's a great truck you have there, plenty of power and longevity. I had to scramble to get my pickup worked out last year. I placed an order for a lance 1172 (looking back it’s to big but it is what it is) and was told it would be a year. Welp things changed as 2 months later it was ready. So kind of ended up with the cheapest diesel that can take that weight in Ontario. 2015 f350 dually. 18 months later I think its problems are worked out.
We average 25L/100KM with an F450 and Eagle Cap 1200 Truck Camper (14,000LB). CON: Jacks are the weakest component for us. What is the plan for Winter? Safe Travels! 🤓😎💜💚CA❤👋
Ouch, that’s a thirsty rig 🥲 is it petrol or diesel? We’ve only had to take this off twice now and find the jacks are the sketchy part 😩 Winter plans so far include not freezing to death and snowboarding 😂 We haven’t fully decided what we’ll be doing just yet as we’re still learning the possibilities of this beautiful place and finding our footings. So we’re open to just about anything 🥰

Thanks a lot for this interesting video. I once crossed Canada from Halifax via Whitehorse all the way to Inuvik and Tuktujaktuk. I am also planning to get a truck camper now. What I don't like in video is that you can't even make a 11min video without sucking on your drinks all the time. That is very annoying and doesn't add to the quality. Maybe the next time, you drink 1/2L before!! the video. Greetings.
At this stage we won’t be working in the industry, but we have factored in ski pass costs while saving before arriving purely because we know it’s not a cheap hobby 🥲

Look into Upper and Lower Stable Loads for your suspension. It will greatly reduce your reliance on the airbags and it will reduce sway/roll.
