People remember "Say Cheese and Die" because the book was much darker. In fact, most of the stories that are well remembered for being good are because of the books, not the show.
In piano lessons can be murder, in the books the bad guy gets dragged into the forest and is never heard from again. Man straight up probably got killed in the woods.
I remember being genuinely disturbed by the ending of the Click short story. In that, the battery dies after he presses the power button, and is in complete darkness. I’m assuming he was just alone in the dark until he died from starvation or dehydration.
@@okayiguess74 I thought about that too. Would it be scarier to die like that, or to somehow survive and and live the rest of your life in the dark and silence? I’d rather die
The book ending of Go Eat Worms had the kid get a new interest in butterflies instead of fishing, so instead of being fished with a sandwich as a twist, the kid gets impaled with a pin on a butterfly board. Stuck with me for years.
Yuuuup! I remember that! Though, your comment heavily implies it, you don't actually say and I want to make it clear to other readers that he was impaled by a giant butterfly. (Might have been a moth? Slight difference, but for all intents and purpose the same) So I believe in the show, similarly, we never saw a giant fish, but implied that nature reversed and a fish was fishing him. But yes! The way it was described in the book was quite haunting. The flap of the wings, I think even it described a high pitched sound it made. I caught that the butterfly stuck a pin in him, but didn't catch that it pinned him to a butterfly board. Like... crucified, kinda? Limbs spread apart like a butterfly/moth specimen display?
Everyone talks about how Ryan Gosling was the kid in Say Cheese and Die but I want to talk about how the main kid in Night of the Living Dummy 3 is played by Hayden Christensen
Sure, lets talk about how he, a youngling, was turned into a ventriloquist puppet and how it SOMEHOW influenced his betrayal to his role as Jedi Knight in revenge of the sith. I mean come on, how has no one seen the resemblances between both roles of being puppets to a great evil?
Calling All Creeps was the episode that's been stuck with me for years. Something about the ending where he just decided to brainwash the entire school because he knew they'd still treat him like dirt stood out to me. Something about the way they handed him the cookie. They knew he wasn't a creep, but they knew that he could lead them. Almost makes me want some kind of continuation or crossover.
I always hoped for one too, and you’re in luck - the Creeps FINALLY appear again in one of the newer comics, and it’s a crossover with a bunch of Goosebumps creatures, including Keith from I Live In Your Basement!
I loved the ending of Calling All Creeps! That was poetic justice! I was bullied a lot as a kid and I would have loved to get back at my bullies too. Watching those kids in the school being hateful jerks just made me lose all sympathy. Why save people who cannot be decent human beings? Nope. You play stupid games, you win stupid prizes. Enjoy the freaking cookies, jerks. 😎
The episode, “Welcome to Camp Nightmare” , the ending freaked me out so much as a kid. When I looked into the sky, or went to any type of camp, I was worried that I’d look up and see planet earth or something.. gave me the chills so many times
What horrified me in cuckoo clock of doom was the implication that anything in the year 88 was gone. How many other kids weren’t born? What significant events never occurred? We’ll never know and that’s pretty scary
In elementary schools, one of my friends saw the cover for the book and freaked out. He started crying and ran to hide under a desk the teacher was sitting at. She was confused and asked what was wrong, and with a whimper he said "It's scary".
Lol I loved goosebumps when I was 6 And my friend got me out by, get this, Pretending to be slappy to scare me It worked and I never watched an episode again I fucking hate how dumb I was
One time in elementary one of my teachers was taunting me for being afraid of that cover. Days went by and she keeps on mocking me. But I'm glad I moved to another school after that incident
@@SimplyColin Honestly it still is. Not only was that Annoying Orange effect used for intentional creep factor, but everything about the context, the implications of what they're going to do to him (which is much darker than the book), the dialogue, the way they talk and those GODDAMN SMILES! This was the only time the show scared me as a kid.
Love the fact that the perfect school is #2. I feel like most people, while they do enjoy it, don't have it in their top 10 simply due to the fact it's not one of the classic goosebumps books, making it easier to forget. But it is without question a top tier goosebumps episode.
FlynnMasters It’s by far the creepiest to me because of how realistic it is Cloning technology DOES exist! They haven’t done humans yet but I guarantee you that will be possible in the future also The actors in that episode while kinda cringy were really great in their roles. The Staff of the school genuinely freaked me out as a kid they all felt off. I came up with a headcanon that the staff of the school were the first students clones that grew up into adults. Oh yeah and then there’s the fact that the parents are living with a REPLICA of their child that can basically live a normal life. Also I guarantee you that they kill those kids after a while so they can make room in the cells. Damn that episode was so good!
To be honest, I gotta thank Goosebumps for getting me into the horror genre. It introduced me to a lot of horror aspects, monsters, and tropes. I know the books are cheesy and some of the episodes are kinda lame, but some of those episodes really terrified me as a kid. Despite the kid-friendly appeal, I still cherish the series a lot even when I got older.
The two werewolf episodes were actually the ones that scared me the most. I was born in 97, so I grew up with Goosebumps on VHS. The two werewolf episodes were the ones that scared me so hard, I had reoccurring nightmares and a hardcore fear of werewolves. I'd honestly go as far as to say that Werewolf of Fever Swamp is a crowning achievement of children horror for just how effective it was at building dread, and how horrifying the werewolf was
The shot of the Werewolf in the kitchen was one of the best scenes in the whole series, that episode was scary as hell (also one of the few where the monster kills a person. honestly I think it’s one of the best Werewolf movies I’ve seen, there really aren’t a lot of good Werewolf movies unfortunately).
Dude the werewolf episodes f'd me up. And it was weird bc even as a kid I didnt think the werewolf episodes were that scary, but for some reason they just sat in my mind and constantly gave me nightmares.
To add a little context: the two scenes that really messed me up were the ending of Fever Swamp, and the cliffhanger to part one of Werewolf Skin. I can't really explain it, but something about the skeleton floating out of the swamp finished the job the shed attack started. As for Werewolf Skin, it was the noises the werewolves made combined with how violently they were trying to break through those iron bars always freaked me out.
But it wasn't the pilot episode. The actual pilot was the first Living Dummy adaptation that was 90 minutes & shown during primetime on Fox. Probably because of the format difference it isn't included in collections & may even be lost media. Haunted mask was just the first made as a normal episode.
@@samrobotsinThey never made the first Living Dummy book into an episode. I don't know why you're spreading misinformation when the literal show runners have commented on why they never adapted that book into an episode.
Okay I doubt anyone else noticed this, but I just wanna say it's hilarious and genius that you used the Spongebob Battle for Bikini Bottom music for the sponge episode.. that's perfect lol
@@ImCarpet @carᴘᴇᴛ And he used the Frantic Factory tune from Donkey Kong 64 for the living dummy episodes. Which is great because most of the enemies in that level are evil toys :D
The shocker on shock street book is really good, the whole theme park seems enormous and you feel isolation from the kids being all alone there. The twist is also pulled off really nicely. Also the kids never get revenge, it just turns to the point of view of the father and how he dismantles them
Hey guys, just wanted to quickly say that this October (October 2021) I will be making a video ranking all the Are You Afraid of The Dark Episodes as well. I know that's really far away but hopefully you guys stick around for that. It'll be an interesting ranking because unlike Goosebumps I've only seen like 3 episodes as a kid, and even now as an adult I've only seen like 10 episodes total. Anyways, that's all I wanted to say, and also thank you for showing this video some love as of recent
that is a TASK ahaha... I'm imagining the judging criteria will have to be different considering the fact that AYAOTD stories are structured differently.
Are you going to one day do The Haunting Hour episodes? Also you got a new subscriber! I love your way of reading. How you introduced the episodes, gave information and everything! Im excited to see what else you have!!! Have a fabulous day!!
i only ever read the books, no tv, the sponge story and those of the like were actually scary. No kid acting, no useless dialogue, every version was better in the books :/. Cant take any of the kids seriously in the show. Great video tho. And yes, the ones i remember the most is the sponge under the sink one and the monsterland ones lmao p.s. even the worms book is only just mediocre, at least it doesnt show the worms moving around and stuff from their point of view, thats awful. How the kids react doesnt help either (acting).
@@memeteam8274 i agree that the books are more immersive and arguably 'better', but I don't think it's fair to write off all of the child actors. A lot of them were really good, and the adult actors (even if characterized) were almost always excellent.
@@MrParkerman6 It's mentioned there because it's relevant to the episode, and she was very young. No one asked for the r/im14andthisisdeep nihilism, dude.
I remember the episode where they were on an island and find a GIANT ASS shark tooth that only could have belonged to a shark literally bigger than the goddamn island. It really invoked my imagination as a younger kid.
The line, "I know they're all stereotypes; nerd, bully, girl" had me dying just because the way he said "girl" and the context behind it for some reason. 😂😂😂
I laughed at the girl comment but it was so true in the 90s esp- most characters my friends liked were the girl ones just because they were the girl ones.
huh Vampire Breath has a dif ending from the book. Cause I can distinctly remember in the book After finding out their vampires Freddy exploring the bathroom for other stuff and finds a bottle of Werewolf sweat, accidently spilling it on them and ends with Freddy hearing Cara growl ( guess they're vampire werewolves now?) far more interesting an ending then what the show did at least
Even though the books have darker elements the episodes scared me more as they were showing the monsters in the real world. Knowing that made me more unsettled
I remember as a kid being especially freaked out by I Live in Your Basement, Curse of Camp Cold Lake, and Let's Get Invisible (particularly the description of the mirror world) I also remember being intrigued, but not really scared, by The Haunted School and How I Learned to Fly, the latter being especially interesting for being probably the only Goosebumps book I know of to not really revolve around horror while still remaining intriguing.
The scarecrow episode is one of my favorites. Scary, good acting, good run time, and the setting is amazing, because they cant ask for help, its just them and the scarecrows. Its perfect
The Scarecrow Walks at Midnight was the only Goosebumps episode that really gave me the chills. Honestly I'm so glad it ranked so high on the list and at number 4. My favorite number.
I watched it a few months ago for the first time and it freaked me out. Just the setting alone was enough, but being stalked at night by a scarecrow is so creepy
Our high school actually allocated the MOST budget to the arts, drama department included. We had a 550 seat auditorium, a fly system, a scene shop. On top of that, it was big enough that our Middle School next door would always use it for concerts, so that Phantom episode isn't farfetched at all.
I wish we had your funding! We have the biggest stage/ auditorium in the district and we still had to BEG for a new soundboard when ours broke. Our stage is collapsing in the middle to, yesterday a kind put his foot through it
Calling all creeps freaked me out as a kid. The way his friend tries to stop him from allowing everyone from eating the cookies because there is still time is quite sad. The reflection of the creeps in his glasses also does an affect.
The Haunted Mask has SUCH good acting, it really blows your mind with how bad some of the later episodes are (I guess they focused more on quick scared than actually telling an interesting story). The scene were Carly Beth rips up her duck costume is so dark and sad, like her ripping of her innocence after being tormented for so long (even by her best friend), the way she then stops crying and fixes her hair to go out to buy a new costume with a feeling of revenge, and the ending is so heartwarming, using her mom's sculpture of her as a sign of love and also to remind herself of who she really is, its not just a silly prop to look scary because "ooohh beheaded!" it actually has deep symbolism. Gosh I could just go on and on about this episode, its one of the best pieces of horror for kids ever created in general, and Carly Beth did an amazing job throughout, its a shame the rest of the show didnt live up to this, but I guess they put all their best effort in their pilot and just kinda lost that fire, but there are still some other great episodes like Stay out of the Basement, Dead House and Cry of the Cat.
This may not be LS Mark reviewing every single Simpsons episode but DAM I cant even binge an anime. The dedication is crazy for stuff like this! Great video!
I haven't seen that one yet but I watched the Disney movie and Family Guy ones. Surprised he hasn't done a Fairly OddParents review/ranking video yet since he's made tons of videos about the show's downfall but maybe that's next, if not then I'm betting on SpongeBob or South Park (to keep in line with reviewing adult show episodes)
As a kid I didn’t find Vampire Breath scary, but I found it super cool. Seven year old me was in love with the idea of being a vampire. The ending was a dream come true in my eyes
I remember reading and checking goosebumps out at the library and then checking out the vhs after I was done reading them. My mom wouldn’t let me watch them until I read the books and then the horrorland series came out and she’d buy me them if I had straight A’s. Memories lol
Don’t know why I’m 5 months late to this video when I love Goosebumps. I’ve been watching it my whole life just about. I like how much effort you put into it. A video about The Haunting Hour would be great too, but I already appreciate just this
I can tell this channel is going to blow up! The video was incredibly thorough and well made. My favourite episode was The Cuckoo Clock Of Doom, the ending is freaking amazing.
I’m thinking back to first grade when my class had library privileges and we had to get our book choice approved by our teacher. I have no skills to speak of but I was an early avid reader. I was 7 and I picked out a Goosebumps book back in 1998. My classmates picked out Clifford or My First Reader books. My teacher told me I wouldn’t be able to read the book I chose because it was deemed a more advanced read than a first grade reader’s aptitude. We sat down and she prompted me to read the first two pages to prove her case. I read the two pages perfectly fine and she digressed. Unfortunately I’m tapped in the head and adore gore and crime as an adult. I did this to myself.
Your choice of #1 made my childhood self happy cry with validation cause I always said this one was with my friends and they disagreed. Thank you. You are a man of culture
Attack of the jack-o-lantern really messed me up because of the ending, I know how stupid the aliens looked but the was the first I really started to think about how I could be taken and killed and no one would know what happened. And the fact they were eaten is what really got to me... not sure why but that one messed me up
SAME when i was a kid i was scared that the aliens were under my bed, table, or even behind me. that episode definitely traumatized me the most and only because the aliens looked so freaky and kid me couldn't handle it
For some reason, the Mummy episode (the one in the suburbs) was THE ONE episode I couldnt watch, the mummy looked so fcking scary and the fact it was in the basement and everyone knew, like it wasnt a surprised like Vampire Breath or whatever, their mom just brought it in and put it there like yeah whatever. That just horrified me, the idea you couldnt really do anything bc it was already in your house (and yes you can flee your home but I was a little kid, home was like that one place were you should feel safe)
Wait, the mom willingly just let the mummy chill down there? I know what you're saying, though, about home, and it's one reason why the vibe of so many of these books/episodes was scary as a child. Also a reason why people not believing the kids worked sometimes, because kids can't do much with adult help.
My favorite episode was the one when the main characters go trick or treating and encounter aliens. The one with pumpkin heads. Not that scary but I love it.
I'm so glad someone gave Perfect School the respect it deserves. Honestly felt closer to an Are You Afraid of the Dark episode rather than goosebumps. My favorite episode was Haunted Mask, but that was only my second favorite book. My favorite book was My Best Friend is Invisible because of the ending, which they couldn't truly capture in the show. Because, while the endings were the same on paper, the book ending was even more disturbing. All the characters crowd around Brent (the invisible boy) as the main character shines the invisibility revealing light around his room. When the characters see Brent, they all start screaming “Yuck! He has only one head!” and "[His arms] are so short! He can't wrap [them] around himself. How does he keep himself warm?” and “Why doesn’t he have tendrils and suction pods like we do? Where are his antennae? And how can he see with only two eyes?” Because all the main characters have been crazy-looking aliens the entire time. And then the parents say they have to take Brent to a zoo because "humans are an endangered species." It disturbed me so much as a kid, and I was actually disappointed this story had an episode at all. That ending was such a letdown in comparison.
I think it's the opposite. Their reactions in the book felt like it was played for laughs and Brent was sent to a zoo. In the episode, it's implied that they're going to kill the poor kid. This was the only time the show terrified me. I always found that Annoying Orange effect terrifying and I have no idea what kind of sick fuck would keep using it for comedy (I'm exaggerating, but still)! I appreciated how creative they got with their budget, and I also like its simplicity. Also, everything about the context, the dialogue, the deadpan way they spoke, those fucking grins and the implications. After they turn around, they say: "We're only here to help you Brent..." "To save you from the others..." "We won't hurt you Brent. We promise..." It still freaks me out.
@@troin3925 That's fair. I still liked the book ending better. I didn't really see it as funny, I suppose. I thought that being surrounded by monsters who were implied to have wiped out most of the human race, have started their own society on the foundation humans built, likely killed your parents, and now want to put you in a zoo to be studied and laughed at is a scary ending. I also admit that part of why I'm still so fond of the book is because it blew my mind. The protagonist was a strange, alien creature the entire time, and I had never experienced an ending like that. It recontextualized the whole book- Brent was just a kid hoping to stay safe but longing for a friend while Sammy was part of the society that seemingly conquered the human race. I thought that was such a cool twist, but I see how the episode would be creepy. I think I was just mad that they adapted a story with such a visually important twist I loved and personally thought the eyes on the back of the head looked dumb.
@@amarvelousgeek222 The book version was one of those twists that really took advantage of the medium. We can't see what people look like, so we take it for granted that they're just humans, but they're never described either until the end of the book which is clever.
A Marvelous Geek The Perfect School is the ONLY Goosebumps episode that could ever happen in real life and that what’s makes it scary especially since Cloning has been proven to be possible. We haven’t got to humans yet but that’s probably going to be possible within the next decade. Also WTF happens to the kids when that lock up fills up do they kill them?! Geez that episode is so dark
Which makes me wonder why Troy Steele from Blogger Beware likes that, but hates Chicken Chicken. The man is a fraud who can't handle real literature for adults.
@@SS-mc5be Super late response, but yeah, I agree. In the book, iirc, the protag wishes she never met the wish granter or something, but then the story ends with her being punished for all her troubles by being turned into a bird by her bully.
Let's not forget the part of The Ghost Next Door where she saves Danny, but in the process, unintentionally makes the man who does it- a postal worker who is bullied throughout this whole episode- a hero. For those who don't remember, she can't touch Danny and bring him out of the house herself, so she plays the piano (just like a stereotypical ghost in a way), to notify the postman that someone is still in the house. He goes back in and finds Danny and I think it's implied that the likelihood that he'll be seen the same way by the town is reduced. That made this already emotional episode even better!
I’d honestly say my favorite episode ever was the werewolf of fever swamp. I loved it so much. Werewolves are my favorite monster creatures and I really think that R.L. Stine did a good job on that book. I remember the differences between the show and the book but it still worked in my opinion.
I can’t help but notice you used the music from the Chauncey fight of Luigi’s Mansion for the ranking of the “Strained Peas” episode. Big props for putting so much time into what music matches the correct episode.
Looking back now as an adult I liked how the episodes really used horror as an allegory for childhood fears like in Vampire Breath it's them moving to a new place I think, My Best Friend is Invisible is being ostracized.
i remember the ending scared the shit out of me when i was little too. the weird, grotesque and miserable looking face on the kid in the tank was terrifying
Cry of the Cat scared the hell out me when I was kid, the animatronic is so damn disgusting. I went back and rewatched it to see if it was just childhood terror and that maybe I've gotten over it as I've gotten older but NOPE. Still scared of that hairless thing, especially the noise it makes *shudders*
Glad to know I'm not the only one. I got the DVD as a kid and I had (still do? That might sound silly as an adult) nightmares of being chased by that animatronic. Where the hell they got that thing I don't think I'll ever know. But it's uuugly 😭
I actually like My Hairiest Adventure, just for how bizarre it is. But I do respect the opinions of those who dislike it, since there's still plenty to hate. Personally, I love twist endings like that come from nowhere, like Welcome to Camp Nightmare and Calling all Creeps. Say what you will about them, but they are memorable, even if for the wrong reasons.

Oh. my. god. I actually clicked on this video to try to find this one episode of goosebumps that really scared me as a kid. I didn't scare easy and it didn't traumatize me or anything but I remember seeing a part of it and immediately turning the TV off, running downstairs to my cousin who lived with us at the time, and asking him if he had seen the episode. Man, I had started to think that I wouldn't find it by #15, BUT alas, 1:25:00 is the image. The exact image I've had in my brain of that episode for YEARS. Go eat worms had a darker ending in the book Where instead of fishing, he ends up doing the whole 'pinning butterflies' or whatever thats called And he wakes up to a massive butterfly holding a sliver needle over him
Too bad they never adapted "The Horror At Camp Jellyjam" into an episode. That one always meant a lot to me, being the first one i happened to come by and read.
This was actually one of my favorite books, and I've re-read it several times. I am also disappointed they never filmed that book. But then again, how would they even try to make the monster, given the series was made in the 90's? all cgi? a robot with leather/rubber costume? personally, i probably would have hated the on-screen adaptation, if they made a bad job trying to make the jelly monster "come to life"
Thank you so much for posting this video! I can only imagine the amount of pain from gritted teeth you had to go through from the sheer amount of cringe from the worser entries in this series. XD Funnily enough, I was TERRIFIED of this series as a kid-not from the stories/episodes themselves, per se, but the book covers and the commercials freaking 3-6-year-old me out to the point where I never wanted to see or read the individual entries. The commercial for the scarecrow episode and the infamous Haunted Mask cover, both book and V.H.S., were responsible for some of the first nightmares I ever remember having. (Seriously, check out the commercials on TH-cam if you’re curious, even for the stupider episodes-they’re VERY unnerving, even to adult me. 😰) Nonetheless, it was my first real exposure to horror as a kid, and while I didn’t seriously start getting into the genre until I was 15 as both a fan and an aspiring writer, I’ve now grown to love this series as an adult, even with all the ‘90s cheese and dumb twists it has that can drag it down. So, I just wanted to thank you again for putting so much effort into this vid, because this series does mean a lot to me. :) Keep up the fantastic work!
My favorite episode is *_Cry of the Cat._* It's scary, funny, and meta in a way that I really enjoyed. Also, the ending is the one that stuck with me the most.
Goosebumps the series is my childhood back in the 90's. I was born 1998, the year I started watching the Goosebumps series. This series is one of my favorites from the 90's. while i read the book, i never saw the episode for "say cheese and die," and seeing the footage i said "wow that kid looks like ryan gosling" a moment before you clarified it WAS him. i don't know how i never knew. great vid btw!
In the books, there was actually a series 2000 sequel to Horrorland, and there was one sequence where the character gets strapped to a dentist chair, where this dentist-crocodile (animatronic?) threatens to drill through his lips.
God I remember these. Thank you for bringing me back to a mostly happy childhood. ^_^ I say mostly happy cause nothing's perfect, and I truly can't complain.
Imagine if they did an episode / TV movie special where all and I mean ALL the kids from each episode come together and team up to stop the antagonists / the monsters who they had to deal with in each episode.
Hey, good job! I like your VG music choices, and the Mother 3 visual.
That shit blew my mind when I saw that for the first time
What horrified me in cuckoo clock of doom was the implication that anything in the year 88 was gone. How many other kids weren’t born? What significant events never occurred? We’ll never know and that’s pretty scary
I wouldnt have been born!!!
You should definitely rank all the haunting hour episodes.
Facts man. I loved haunting hour and thought it was great. I’d love to see something like that
@@Mr-Opium Haunting Hour is really being slept on
Haunting hr is definitely better. It became darker and more grown up like are you afraid of the dark
I remembered being scared of really you
@@eagle8038 that freaking Ice Cream Truck episode was horrifying
Kids who were able to watch the Slappy episode were like Gods among men
In elementary schools, one of my friends saw the cover for the book and freaked out. He started crying and ran to hide under a desk the teacher was sitting at. She was confused and asked what was wrong, and with a whimper he said "It's scary".
PLEASE THE TEACH PUT A SLAPPY EPISODE ON AND MOST OF US LOOKED AWAY AND CRIED
WE WERE 5
Lol I loved goosebumps when I was 6
And my friend got me out by, get this,
Pretending to be slappy to scare me
It worked and I never watched an episode again
I fucking hate how dumb I was
One time in elementary one of my teachers was taunting me for being afraid of that cover. Days went by and she keeps on mocking me. But I'm glad I moved to another school after that incident
It gave my sister nightmares about being turned into a dummy
Ok, the end of My Best Friend is Invisible actually traumatized me. The way the eyes poked through the heads sacred 5 year old me shitless.
oh yeah I mean I was old enough to not be scared to death but it was extremely unnerving for my 9-year-old brain
I thought it was extremely stupid for an ending. Even for Goosebumps standards.
no don’t get me wrong, now looking back it’s stupid but as a kid it was unsettling
Its probably the best twist ending in the show
When I met RL Stine I got him to sign my copy of Welcome to Dead House. One of my favorite books and episodes.
Love the fact that the perfect school is #2. I feel like most people, while they do enjoy it, don't have it in their top 10 simply due to the fact it's not one of the classic goosebumps books, making it easier to forget. But it is without question a top tier goosebumps episode.
I like Perfect school so much mostly because it was the go to Goosebumps DVD to watch.
And Alex rider point blanc without the twist ending
Not had an excuse to say Alex rider since the Amazon show
To be honest, I gotta thank Goosebumps for getting me into the horror genre. It introduced me to a lot of horror aspects, monsters, and tropes. I know the books are cheesy and some of the episodes are kinda lame, but some of those episodes really terrified me as a kid. Despite the kid-friendly appeal, I still cherish the series a lot even when I got older.
Goosebumps was the training bra for all of us who now love Lovecraft, Junji Ito, Stephen King, etc.
For me it was the dead time stories show that only has 8 episodes at least then died sad
This, then The Haunting Hour got me into the horror im in now
Nahhhh the tv show is cheesy the books nahh in the book of go eat worms the kid gets impaled by a giant butterfly on to a board they get very dark
Feels like I went from Goosebumps to Dead Space in the blink of an eye.
The two werewolf episodes were actually the ones that scared me the most. I was born in 97, so I grew up with Goosebumps on VHS. The two werewolf episodes were the ones that scared me so hard, I had reoccurring nightmares and a hardcore fear of werewolves. I'd honestly go as far as to say that Werewolf of Fever Swamp is a crowning achievement of children horror for just how effective it was at building dread, and how horrifying the werewolf was
Same dude. I watched it and my Grandparents creepy-ass, middle of nowhere house, and it fucked. Me. Up. For. Life.
The shot of the Werewolf in the kitchen was one of the best scenes in the whole series, that episode was scary as hell (also one of the few where the monster kills a person. honestly I think it’s one of the best Werewolf movies I’ve seen, there really aren’t a lot of good Werewolf movies unfortunately).
the werewolf episodes were executed really well. i always found them to be the scariest too
Dude the werewolf episodes f'd me up.
This is well edited it gave me goosebumps
Bruh
LOL I get the joke

Bruh jk, I like it

I always found it funny how the haunted mask was the pilot episode for goosebumps. They really started out the series with their best episode!
And then Persona 5 music for the Phantom of the Auditorium... holy shit you're killing it with these music choices!
@@ImCarpet I noticed beneath the mask but I did not notice the connection
I’m so glad people are starting to pick up the reason for the music choices
@@ImCarpet @carᴘᴇᴛ And he used the Frantic Factory tune from Donkey Kong 64 for the living dummy episodes. Which is great because most of the enemies in that level are evil toys :D
Song of Time (?) from the N64 Zelda games during Cuckoo Clock of Doom, too
The shocker on shock street book is really good, the whole theme park seems enormous and you feel isolation from the kids being all alone there. The twist is also pulled off really nicely. Also the kids never get revenge, it just turns to the point of view of the father and how he dismantles them
Scarecrows walk at midnight fucked me up as a kid I still remember that episode so vividly
I couldn't sleep after seeing that episode
Oh wow. I just subscribed just for that. I cannot wait! 🤩
And yes, the ones i remember the most is the sponge under the sink one and the monsterland ones lmao
p.s. even the worms book is only just mediocre, at least it doesnt show the worms moving around and stuff from their point of view, thats awful. How the kids react doesnt help either (acting).
@@memeteam8274 i agree that the books are more immersive and arguably 'better', but I don't think it's fair to write off all of the child actors. A lot of them were really good, and the adult actors (even if characterized) were almost always excellent.
did you know that the person who played becca in teachers pet died? This is true because you can see in loving memory of Michelle Risi, the actor.
Dang . That’s too bad
Rest In Peace
Millions of People have died since that episode. Several People die every second. Also several people are born every second.
Dame that sucks
@@MrParkerman6 It's mentioned there because it's relevant to the episode, and she was very young. No one asked for the r/im14andthisisdeep nihilism, dude.
I think Old Story is actually terrifying, considering it has a commentary on bride kidnapping(in this case groom) and human trafficking
the concept is so chilling and way too real, it deserves to be higher as it’s an allegory for grooming
I remember the episode where they were on an island and find a GIANT ASS shark tooth that only could have belonged to a shark literally bigger than the goddamn island. It really invoked my imagination as a younger kid.
Deep Trouble
Everyone saw the haunted mask being #1 coming
I sure did.
As a kid I never liked the haunted mask. I always thought it was super boring to me
@@jadas8686 ong I hated those episodes
No surprise
Best book and TV series episode, hands down.
Well, Freddy would be. Cara wasn't related to him at all in the book, so she's just a werewolf.
Personally I always thought the books were scarier. I used to read them every night and let my mind go wild
the books were 100% scarier without a doubt
Even though the books have darker elements the episodes scared me more as they were showing the monsters in the real world. Knowing that made me more unsettled
You ever listen to the audio tapes of the books? Those where scary AF!
When I was little, I read that one about the mud monsters before bed and I thought I was the bravest kid ever
I remember as a kid being especially freaked out by I Live in Your Basement, Curse of Camp Cold Lake, and Let's Get Invisible (particularly the description of the mirror world)
I also remember being intrigued, but not really scared, by The Haunted School and How I Learned to Fly, the latter being especially interesting for being probably the only Goosebumps book I know of to not really revolve around horror while still remaining intriguing.
The scarecrow episode is one of my favorites. Scary, good acting, good run time, and the setting is amazing, because they cant ask for help, its just them and the scarecrows. Its perfect
I may be messed up, but in the coocoo clock of doom, I was glad the sister got erased she was cruel to her brother for no reason
Nah, she deserved it.
She really didn’t tho. Siblings are meant to be annoying that’s basically their job,

The Scarecrow Walks at Midnight was the only Goosebumps episode that really gave me the chills. Honestly I'm so glad it ranked so high on the list and at number 4. My favorite number.
frrr I hated scarecrows when I was little 😂
I watched it a few months ago for the first time and it freaked me out.
Our stage is collapsing in the middle to, yesterday a kind put his foot through it
I’m so jealous, all my schools growing up only had cafetoriums.
Calling all creeps freaked me out as a kid. The way his friend tries to stop him from allowing everyone from eating the cookies because there is still time is quite sad. The reflection of the creeps in his glasses also does an affect.
the reflection in the glasses is perfect. It’s a low budget way of doing it yet extremely effective
@@SimplyColin couldn’t agree more!! I would also like to add in the chanting
Ayyyyy another simpsons/LS Mark fan
I watched that both videos... this one and LS Mark's Simpsons one.
The episode of this that I remember the most is Stay Out of the Basement.
I think a lot of people remember that one most, it’s iconic
The plants with the hands and faces gave me the willies at the time.
One day at horrorland was always my fav. Fallowed by Stay Out Of The Basement. classic episodes.
As a kid I didn’t find Vampire Breath scary, but I found it super cool. Seven year old me was in love with the idea of being a vampire. The ending was a dream come true in my eyes
I’m sorry but I wheezed when Slappy said “You’ll be mine Kitten....”
A video about The Haunting Hour would be great too, but I already appreciate just this
I played escape from horrorland so much as a kid, it’s actually really fun, the werewolf chase scared the shit out of me
I can tell this channel is going to blow up!
I did this to myself.
thank you so much for covering this series. it totally isn’t talked about as much as it should be 👌🏻great job.
thanks man!
Your choice of #1 made my childhood self happy cry with validation cause I always said this one was with my friends and they disagreed. Thank you. You are a man of culture
I remember “Vampire Breath” made me think I was gonna turn into a Vampire when I turned 12
Attack of the jack-o-lantern really messed me up because of the ending, I know how stupid the aliens looked but the was the first I really started to think about how I could be taken and killed and no one would know what happened. And the fact they were eaten is what really got to me... not sure why but that one messed me up
SAME when i was a kid i was scared that the aliens were under my bed, table, or even behind me. that episode definitely traumatized me the most and only because the aliens looked so freaky and kid me couldn't handle it
Same😅
It's weird that Camp Jellyjam never got adapted. I remember that one more than most other books.
dude I know, right? that was one of my favorites as a kid
It was most likely because of the budget
Was that the one with the blue eggs?
@@isetmfriendsofire I think that’s Egg Monsters From Mars
OOH ain’t that the one with the slug monster cult??
For some reason, the Mummy episode (the one in the suburbs) was THE ONE episode I couldnt watch, the mummy looked so fcking scary and the fact it was in the basement and everyone knew, like it wasnt a surprised like Vampire Breath or whatever, their mom just brought it in and put it there like yeah whatever. That just horrified me, the idea you couldnt really do anything bc it was already in your house (and yes you can flee your home but I was a little kid, home was like that one place were you should feel safe)
The basement scene got me so stressed when I was little
Wait, the mom willingly just let the mummy chill down there?
I know what you're saying, though, about home, and it's one reason why the vibe of so many of these books/episodes was scary as a child. Also a reason why people not believing the kids worked sometimes, because kids can't do much with adult help.
My favorite episode was the one when the main characters go trick or treating and encounter aliens. The one with pumpkin heads. Not that scary but I love it.
Same bro that shit was immaculate and the ending was perfect
The episode in question is called “Attack of the jack-o-lanterns”
And then the parents say they have to take Brent to a zoo because "humans are an endangered species."
It
disturbed me so much as a kid, and I was actually disappointed this story had an episode at all.
After they turn around, they say:
"We're only here to help you Brent..."
"To save you from the others..."
"We won't hurt you Brent. We promise..."
It still freaks me out.
@@amarvelousgeek222 You have a point.

The Ghost next door genuinely makes me cry, just something about the piano at the end.
Best goosebumps video ever
The story of Be Careful What You Wish For is kind of mean-spirited, even in the original book.

You’re 100% correct
The closest thing we got was "The Perfect School" but it's still a great episode.
was that the one where the school kids teleported to some parallel blackand white universe and everyone wanted their "color"?

But then again, how would they even try to make the monster, given the series was made in the 90's? all cgi? a robot with leather/rubber costume? personally, i probably would have hated the on-screen adaptation, if they made a bad job trying to make the jelly monster "come to life"
Only the best
Thank you so much for posting this video! I can only imagine the amount of pain from gritted teeth you had to go through from the sheer amount of cringe from the worser entries in this series. XD
Funnily enough, I was TERRIFIED of this series as a kid-not from the stories/episodes themselves, per se, but the book covers and the commercials freaking 3-6-year-old me out to the point where I never wanted to see or read the individual entries. :)
Keep up the fantastic work!
Honestly the goosebump episode that scared me the most was when I was a kid was "Night of the Living Dummy" but right behind it is "The Haunted Mask"
My favorite episode is *_Cry of the Cat._* It's scary, funny, and meta in a way that I really enjoyed. Also, the ending is the one that stuck with me the most.
Love the video man keep up the great work
1:29:30 A kid literally says “Get off the stage, Fuck off!”
Me: 😨 just disbelief lol
Goosebumps the series is my childhood back in the 90's. I was born 1998, the year I started watching the Goosebumps series. This series is one of my favorites from the 90's. I watch most every 90's kids show, but the most important ones for me are Pokémon and Goosebumps. I have some Goosebumps books in my cabinet, but not a lot. Sabrina Griffin
while i read the book, i never saw the episode for "say cheese and die," and seeing the footage i said "wow that kid looks like ryan gosling" a moment before you clarified it WAS him. i don't know how i never knew. great vid btw!
I am so glad this exists
2 years later this is still one of my favorite videos to watch when I want to revisit the series
Imagine if they did an episode / TV movie special where all and I mean ALL the kids from each episode come together and team up to stop the antagonists / the monsters who they had to deal with in each episode.
Hey, good job! I like your VG music choices, and the Mother 3 visual. I actually had a vivid nightmare inspired by the lawn gnome episode, where they were in my mom's backseat and got me, presumably transforming me into a gnome. I actually had to retire my Goosebumps bedsheets as a kid because I kept getting nightmares, haha!
9:45 Dude, I think Matt might be a Junji Ito “protagonist”
