I think it's funny that incogneto did it to himself by blocking the brick so much when you advised him the wheat was it. Then you play a strategic block and he melts down. Plus he complained about the table talk but was doing it just as much.

incog was being angry, irrational and toxic, but plowing your road connect is I think the correct play. I know it's hard to be objective when you're playing and when a player is being stupid and malicious, but I think the double play is a good strategy here if incog was playing rationally. Always fun watching, love the gameplay!
I just played with a guy named bnoah who is also emotional and a horrible toxic player. They constantly make threats to ruin player game unless they do what they want. They call dibs on ports and say if anyone makes a move against them they will be solo all game. It's tragic. Just like this game they vowed to ruin my game they stayed at 5 points while I was able to get to 9. Then they threw in my face that I was low IQ and that they were top 5 before so they know best.
The funny thing about 40:00 with bronze is that he completely contradicts himself. He claimed the 9 wheat was “100% the block”. He also claimed that you blocking his 9 ore “ruined his game”. Seems to me that it’s not possible for the 9 wheat to have been 100% the block if you were able to completely wipe a contending player out of the game by blocking something else.
@@dandydrew It was fair. You needed the wheat and you gave a chance for him to trade for it. Did you consider ever ‘wasting’ a turn to connect your road segments? No telling if black would have taken road from you if bronze didn’t sabotage your game against his own interests, but is it possible to get too comfortable as the sole road player? Especially when all 3 opponents are fighting devs and pulling road builders and monos?
@41:10 My first thoughts here were, incog has vowed to ruin your game, your win con is road, he is the only one in the position to block your win con, secure road and connect immediately. I see how attractive a city was, but it was very interesting to watch the next turn unfold. I think I found it interesting also because of how much Dandy stressed the point of securing your win condition when you were talking in the beginning about the people fighting over dev cards and who should block who, but then didn't secure that road win condition there. Maybe at the higher levels spiteful play that tanks your game like that is less common or not something that's reasonable to account for. Keep in mind I am very new to this game and I don't think I am very good haha so I am just watching to learn some things. I wonder if the emphasis in the beginning of securing your win condition in the post mortem commentary was influenced a bit because you knew that happened with your road. Either way, it makes the point much more teachable for me. I guess my question is, even though it slows down your production, do you feel that connecting is a better move than the city because it secures your win-con more easily? Curious to hear your insights.
Beginner here. Recently found your videos and always try to do the mental exercises at the beginning of each game. Can someone explain to me what the main fault of choosing 8-5-4 down and 10-8-5 down would be? You would secure the 3 best wood tiles and also the 2 best sheep tiles, while being in position to settle on the bottom 3:1 port to funnel all the wood into other materials. Black would take 8-4-3 and red might take 9-10-2, but copper ends up in the same place right? So you can still shoot for the 6-5-11 but also have better early port access. Additionally, can someone explain why it was better to get wood wood brick to start over brick sheep wheat? The ladder seems better to set you up for the road settle on 6-5-11 based on the likelihood of rolls. Does it come down to getting targeted for steals from early 7s? Thanks! Loving the videos and I love a good mix of live and post commentary for the combination of in the moment thinking and post-game analysis.
Great question! So the main thing is that despite the production, this play would leave you with really inflexible resources and no easy porting strategy. Even if you have this much production, if you're constantly 3:1ing that cuts this production into a third of what it could be, not to even mention that you're very likely to 7 out with all of these inflexible resources. There's a couple more problems here: firstly, remember how Drew calculated out that players needed wood and sheep? If Drew takes the 10 8 5 that calculation is no longer true and both of those spots in the middle might very likely be taken. Finally, in longest road games a good strategy is to have roads that you can connect in order to get longest road. See how upset Drew was when he got his connect plowed, and why right after that he plowed incogs connect? This is because road is really important, and the connect is a powerful tool to get it. Good luck playing Catan!
I think the mistake you made after Incog got mad was you continued to talk and try to justify it. I find that once a player has a meltdown it is best to not respond at all and stop talking about it. There is a better chance they will cooldown and get over it but if you continue to talk about it then they will continue to sabotage.
I think it’s good for you to mix it up with all formats. A bit of post-commentary, a bit of live commentary, coaching, viewer game analysis, and even the VC games bring a whole different vibe. When brown went 3 10 11 would it have been better to plow black to the 9 10 2? He might have still beaten black to 3 10 11 and ended up with both spots. Is that too greedy?
I like the self reflective series more than the in game series as they feel more put together or produced a little bit (even if they’re not it’s just an overall feeling as a viewer). But that said I also appreciate the in game series too (just so long as they’re not inclusive of voice chat as that’s usually never enjoyable for me as it’s so contentious).
This happened to me 3 times in a row. I blocked a player once first orbit third dice roll wasn’t even a solo block on the double shared 6ore and he lost it solo blocked me knighted me for the rest of the game. And spend the whole game telling me how stupid I was in chat. That was the last straw for me.
To be fair, if I had someone telling me where to place my pieces in setup, and constantly telling me my blocks were wrong, I'd probably be irritated with them too. And if you're playing the social game and take away someone's wincon, you've got to expect backlash with how that losing player reacts. You both played each other (one was just more vocal about it) and ultimately the better player (red) won.
Starting with roads is really strong especially when you're potentially worried about being plowed on the way back. yes Drew did a good job figuring out how the board would be placed, but it's not guaranteed. The starting road makes it much more likely that he actually gets one of those important settles in the middle of the board.
Right where you built the 4 roads to retake it, you could have instead built left from your 5/6/11 city to black's settlement, then up to connect gaining 4 points towards road for the price of 3 and still had enough resources to pop for the potential win. Now, we know from later on that was actually a YOP so it wouldn't have actually gotten the win but still. Love the video, shame Incog is so emotionally weak as to completely lose it after such a nothing situation.
I am new to the game, so I wonder if this is a way to play for a better position? You know you can't win, so you make an alignment with the other bottom position. The other 2 will have to fight each other and 2 coordinated players. Can you squeeze a victory or a second place like that? Obviously this guy was just angry, does not really apply but it made me curious
Imo I wouldn't block the 9 ore. I'd have blocked the 9 wheat as red is so far in front. The 7 happened to roll on reds turn when red had 10 cards. Incog's game is really easy to stall by blocking the ore if they pick up momentum. But it certainly wasn't an egregious block.
Why did you opt to take the 6/3/11 with your first pick? Wheat and sheep are your more rare resources. I usually want to start with those. Especially for that wheat. Just curious.
@@davidlessenberry8736 Statistically I still think it is better to take your rare resources when you can get them. You might get robbed more if you have those road resources that people want initially. People are less likely to want wheat and sheep from the jump.
Well incog was clearly letting his emotions run his game and that’s too bad. However sometimes in a random ranked games people will just get pissed if they think they are already losing and keep getting robbed. I’ve seen it time and time again - once the breaking point is it hit whoever caused that is the target forever. Hard to know when it is worth stealing for resources vs. not pissing someone off unfortunately.
You keep saying incogneeto shouldn't block you but if you are not blocked yes he has more competition for his win condition but at least the game won't be over in 20 minutes like it would be if you are not blocked lol
As a rage player in a few games (the reason I watch now and don’t play, personal choice so it’s still fun for others) Incog was wrong. Great block it was option to steal from either black or incog, since red had no cards.
I think you placed your initial settles out of order. Starting road is super over rated here when you can pick up brick sheep wheat and you are on 2 wood hex.
I prefer these types of videos with the post-game analysis. I feel like Drew's comments are more insightful and consistent. With the live games he sometimes gets too caught up in the moment.
Instead of blowing brown and going your own road route around the dessert, you probably would have enough resource to settle & secure road. Then brown will fight his own road without throwing his resource to others and feeding them roads.
Jo Dandydudedrew, i realy enjoy your vid, but you shoudl totaly delet the second of amazon from this video, cuz i see part of your adress. And I have one question, why you pick the 8/4/5 spot as second and start with road, instead of taking the 6/3/11 second and start with the more rare recouces wheat and sheep
While incognito absolutely lost his mind, you did hit that nine multiple times in a row, but every single time it was the correct spot to block. He was just way too invested in his emotions
This sort of toxicity is why i preferred community games vs random opponents. Got a lot more respect within a community and any toxic players were usually well policed.
I feel the live games are most enjoyable but doing commentary after gives you the ability to go more in depth on the strategic side. Think you cover the desires of more people that way doing a mix of both.
Im really not sure what it is about these types of players... Just finished a game where as soon as I place my starting settle (took coast port on remaining wheat hex) that "plowed" someone else and the first thing they say is "Well my goal is to ruin OJ's game and solo block them the whole time". I just dont understand that reasoning as were all at 2 and this game is designed around making mid game pivots. The abusive chat for the remainder of the game was just draining too. Sucks the fun out of a game that is supposed to be fun.
@@dandydrew it does not let me choose the quality of the video? I tried going back and starting all over again I tried closing the TH-cam starting again but all your videos the other ones even the reason one just now works just fine but this one is not. Try playing this video from a random account that is not yours. And see what the options are to play in quality section?
I did use a slightly different method to record this BUT I have used it many times on the channel and it has worked just fine. All my videos are available in 1080p 60 frames HD so you might want to double check your settings. You should be able to choose “advanced settings” and then change the resolution to max.
@@dandydrew works now. Here's what I will say from my observations with other channels. I think there is something internally with TH-cam or settings before you upload. Immediately when video is posted, in lots of places I noticed that it won't have all options for quality selection. But like 30min-1h later. In this case this video didn't have selection for much longer and it wasn't my phone or my account I tried different phones and computers with different accounts to play. So it's eather a software you use to upload or a TH-cam glitch keeping selection options for playback quality much longer than usual.
Hmmmm honestly I do think Drew was neutral, not good, because at the end of the day bronze was right, red won so he should have been blocked. If bronze was stronger he could have personally fought red for army and maybe drew would have won, in bronzes eyes Drew threw the game for red, and red won, in Drews eyes beonze threw for black, but black and bronze still lost. Bronze had a shitty attitude true, but he was still right judging by the outcome
Interesting to see everyone in comments agrees with your play. In my view you made a poor choice. When the game isn't close and red is clearly well ahead you got to block the leader. Catan is designed for everyone to help each other to keep games close. While your justification that Bronze was close to 6 with army, he doesn't have a city and is 2 points behind red who does have a city. Too big a difference to justify not blocking leader.
If anyone sees this kind of toddler meltdown in their game, please don’t let that player trade unreasonably out of spite. Ruins the integrity and no one would speak to other players like this OTB
That’s fair. I like to open lines of communication but if they aren’t being reasonable, maybe it’s worth muting. Hopefully he reflects on this after watching it.
The board is correct in giving road to another player. In the case of Bronze, he wasn’t playing to win but instead he was playing to make sure I don’t win. There’s a difference in intention. It’s made even more obvious when he literally says I will make sure blue doesn’t win. Context matters here.
Yes, cutting my road is fine. It’s the attitude that Bronze is only concerned about killing my game and not progressing his. As an example, if he was playing for the win, he needed to get resources from the other players to do “community service” for the board. Instead, he not only used his cards to cut but then he fed his entire hand to black to make sure he took the road. Playing to see someone else not win is by definition a losing play and against the competitive ethos of the game. I don’t have an issue with the play itself - It’s the intention behind the play that matters.
I disagree, red did not play it well. The fact he took the trades from incog basically ment he accepted the win trade. Red's behaviour is to me close to being as bed as incog. 100% win traded
his account needs to be banned permanently. this 100% qualifies as wintrading, and the in game chats only solidify it. i hope some mods see this so maybe we can get some social justice
I think, you can't complain that much. Players are allowed to throw a fit, if they FEEL mistreated. If you knew him, you'd know, that he would behave this way, and chose maybe not the optimal play, but the best play against incogneeto.
It was clear bronze was playing to make sure I don’t win, at all cost. I cut his road because I knew he would make a fight on road just so I don’t win even though army was his game. Like the previous comment says… context matters here.
@@dandydrew I know, but in the moment you were a threat and Bronze was right to cut you off. You could have easily won if your road network wasn't cut. Even though it was spiteful, it was a good move. Fun but tough game.
Incogneeto is the type of player we all hate to play with. They let their emotions ruin the spirit of the game, especially for just one small block.
Not to mention Incogneeto had potential for road and army there too. It was a great block.

I just dont understand that reasoning as were all at 2 and this game is designed around making mid game pivots. The abusive chat for the remainder of the game was just draining too. Sucks the fun out of a game that is supposed to be fun.
Not to mention taking the wheat hex was my only opportunity to complete my OWS setup which was best for MY game. Sorry it didn’t help yours… lol
Why it's bad quality, it's unavailable 17h later....?
Sorry what you mean? The video is still up and 1080p HD
@@dandydrew it does not let me choose the quality of the video? Like the last one you just posted, I can just the quality I can watch it, but this one it's only showing unavailable and the quality is horrible.
Dandy do you know what bricked up means? 😂
Red could and should refuse to trade with incognito
You showed your zip code at 20:07
All honesty no bias. Incog was a crybaby. Lucky was annoying as hell. Red was nice. Black was chillin.
Isn’t this considered cheating by trying to boost other players?
ingame > post-game
If anyone sees this kind of toddler meltdown in their game, please don’t let that player trade unreasonably out of spite. Ruins the integrity and no one would speak to other players like this OTB
I prefer de live commenting to be honest
I don't know why you don't just mute players that go crazy. I don't want that toxic stuff in my game.
That’s fair. I like to open lines of communication but if they aren’t being reasonable, maybe it’s worth muting. Hopefully he reflects on this after watching it.
Complaining that opponents were feeding others when you are at 9 is illogical. Of course they feed someone else road.
The board is correct in giving road to another player. In the case of Bronze, he wasn’t playing to win but instead he was playing to make sure I don’t win. There’s a difference in intention. It’s made even more obvious when he literally says I will make sure blue doesn’t win. Context matters here.
@@dandydrew I’d say it slightly differently. Even though he is a jerk, the move was the logically expected one.
Like, comment, watch
I disagree, red did not play it well. The fact he took the trades from incog basically ment he accepted the win trade. Red's behaviour is to me close to being as bed as incog. 100% win traded
Red is fine. He played a good game and was reasonable.
The old thumbnails were better
Yo
Incog is petty as anything your not allowed to block and not allowed to talk apparently on catan
Love the content, but personally not a fan of post commentary.
his account needs to be banned permanently. this 100% qualifies as wintrading, and the in game chats only solidify it. i hope some mods see this so maybe we can get some social justice
He literally only blocked you in the beginning. You rob him once, and he lost it.
I think, you can't complain that much. Players are allowed to throw a fit, if they FEEL mistreated. If you knew him, you'd know, that he would behave this way, and chose maybe not the optimal play, but the best play against incogneeto.
Misleading title. I’m disappointed. I was expecting something else…
Second
You criticized bronze for cutting your road network and then you did the exact same thing to him? Bro, look up the definition of hypocrite. lol
Not the same at all. Context matters
