    My father and I have a ringneck dove. She was my father's Sunday school teacher's bird and we inherited the sweet little bird after her owner died from cancer.

      Do you let these fly? I just got free ones because they were stressed in a small cage. There is one female without one wing so I think the two makes is let out to fly would definitely come back in to her. ?? Please let me know how soon to release them for a fly around. If at all ...

    When I watch these bird videos they may me cry b/c I love birds so. I want to be a mom to them just like the people who make these films. The best I can do is provide care and feeding to the babies and juvenile birds at the wildlife center for which I volunteer during the summer. We're not permitted to talk to birds or have any physical contact with them outside of feeding - supposedly, human contact is not "healthy" for them - so I have to do it on the sneak.

    • @lulzBrownie

      P. J. Bovio that sounds awful that you can't interact with them D: you should take in and adopt a pigeon if they ever come in

    • @PJBovio
      @PJBovio 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Thanks for your reply!! Yeah, the wildlife center says that wild birds become too attached to humans if humans interact with them as though they're pets, and that human interaction can damper a bird's ability to adapt in the wild when they're let go. I don't understand this b/c I see wild birds interact with people all the time. But, rules are rules. I'd love to adopt a pigeon, but I live in the city in an apt., not a good environment for a bird, plus I'm sure it wouldn't be allowed by management. I console myself by interacting with the birds that nest in the trees outside my window. They're delightful, loving creatures!

      @@PJBovio Some rare species live among us, son it's not so much of a big deal. But generally, by interacting with wild animals when they're still young, they end up impregnated: they won't know how to survive properly on their own, they won't seek the company of their congeners, they're going to stick with us and take risks. If it's a predator it also becomes dangerous for us, as it's not afraid of us anymore and will attack more easily.
      There are so many cases of wild impregnated animals, who had to be put down just because of that.
      And if it's an adult, you create a stressful situation. I already had some birds who died in my hands just by excessive stress.

      If you're in an apartment you're better off with blue ground (gl finding them for sale) or diamond doves. Ringnecks prevent sleep for you + neighbors in same building. Eurasian collared are even noisier.
      Mourning doves are great, but american legislation is pants on head retarded so you can't own a bird you can shoot droves of every year...

    • @whiskeygrunt772
      @whiskeygrunt772 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@nameunavailableffs Ringnecks are domesticated, Mourning doves are not. You can't keep wild animals as pets. Kind of like house cats and bobcats. Exceptions to everything but that's the gist of it.

    • @nameunavailableffs
      @nameunavailableffs 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@whiskeygrunt772 You literally don't know what you're talking about, and ignorance like yours is what is turning America into unAmerican authoritard cancer. Ringnecks vs exotic doves (or mourning doves, which are actually tamer than many exotics) is WAY different than domestic cats bred to be tame vs wild meat eating animal that sees you as food. Dove is literally another word for pigeon. They are all the same in some ways. They can all be trained - literally seen protected ground dove species (ruddy, I think) trained on videos on youtube. Yes, different species have different traits, but they are all easily tamed (though exotics take extreme work and wild captures startle easy). They appreciate their home, in fact, my blue ground doves don't like to leave their cage, even if I leave both doors open. The female will step up to my hand but she doesn't like to leave the cage to the point she will usually fly back in unless I'm scraping poop out then they will both go out on their own.
      I would definitely not call ringnecks or parrot species "domesticated". They are born quite wild and pretty much have to be socialized. Guinea fowl, too..they take years to chill out. I would say that ringnecks tend not to startle quite as easy (still do), and their survival instinct isn't as strong, but again, they are nothing like CATS bred to be INFANTILE NEOTENY. . . m0ron. PS wolves bred for domestication end up both looking and acting more like dogs...hinthint.
      Oh yeah, go look at the tame sparrows and starlings...lol. Starlings are practically (high maintenance) parrots. ignorant PETA fools smh

      Sadman Plays i wouldnt suggest letting her have a nesting spot during the cold weather, bring them inside and remove the nesting material because that'll just make her want to lay more and it's sometimes difficult for a bird to lay eggs while it's cold

  • @themutantchief446
    @themutantchief446 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't agree with your bird technique. "petting" your birds back makes them aroused and you can tell they already see you as a mate not other birds. That's a problem and you should change your technique. It's ok to scritch the head but never to pet the back of a bird. During mating a bird will pull and touch another bird back.
