Yay, I’m gonna be honest. This comic’s one of my least favorites out of the entire line. Everything about it was completely unlikable, which makes me glad that “The Beginning of the End” came along and retconned it out of existence.
Why do you feel that "The Beginning of the End" is better, cause the Sombra arc in the comics is a direct continuation of the season 3 premiere. What I mean by this is that Sombra's motives as for why he enslaved the crystal ponies was so that he could free the Umbrum. This also explains as to why Sombra is so powerful, despite looking like a unicorn, as he himself is an Umbrum that feeds off of all emotions to become stronger. The s9 premiere Sombra was an entirely different character from what was shown in the s3 premiere flashback. They turned an interesting character into a discount General Zod. @@mkstrider1581 Actually, the comics don’t align with “The Crystal Empire” at all. Or with ”The Cutie Re-Mark” for that matter, which actually gave a larger glimpse into what kind of villain Sombra is more than the former did. For instance, instead of using the Umbrum as his army, he uses mind-controlled Crystal Ponies. He certainly didn’t act like a tragic figure either; and unlike the imposter in the comics, Sombra apparently took great pleasure in making others suffer and instilling them with fear. As a matter of fact, I’ve frequently recalled “The Beginning of the End” giving callbacks to “The Cutie Re-Mark”. Other than that, the comics did NOTHING but undermine Sombra’s potential as a villain. They reduced him to a mere cliche reform in the end, and the way they translated him as a tragic figure was openly cringy. Compared to his appearance in “The Beginning of the End”, Sombra also had little in the ways of great personality, phenomenal development, or sense of dimension. He was more by-the-numbers than anything else.
@@thecloakedagent3403 @The Cloaked Agent the s3 premiere ends with Sombra's horn entering the Crystal Empire, implying his return, and the comic's start off with his horn in his layer under the castle. @@mkstrider1581It’s obviously because an artifact made to create harmony wouldn’t actually kill someone. And in case you don’t remember, the Crystal Heart was made to repel and banish evil, not destroy it. As for “Siege of the Crystal Empire” being a more faithful continuation of Season 3, I highly disagree. It does reference the fact that Sombra’s horn fell off of him, yes. But, it also contains contradictions that openly make it less than faithful to the overall show, such as how the Main Six were portrayed. I mean, seriously. Their personalities were not at all like in the show.
@@thecloakedagent3403 the mane 6 prior to the Sombra issue went through character development, and maintained said character development. Twilight gets over her self doubt and freak out moments prior to the Sombra arc in the comics, and this is blatant as she's confident in dealing with a stronger Chrysalis and a much stronger Sombra. The comics used to connect/make sense of events in the show pre s5, but now they go their own routes(the comics/show). Ha... love that they put that line in when he actually returned in the show.
Yes. The incorporation of that line from the comic to the episode saved it from being forever wasted by the atrocity on paper.
