    Awesome vid thanks Tom. Thought all my problems were solved for $10 but seems like Ikelite can't ship to Aus... bugger. Might have to go the tape route.

      Hey mate, coincidentally I am making an updated video of this problem on the weekend, but in short I just ordered one from BH photo in the US and got it shipped to Australia for $27 USD what lens do you need it for? As I got two of the rings and don’t need the other one

      @@drystoreVideos yeah right, probably best to get the perfect fit... I got mine delivered is less than a week to the sunshine coast from B&H in the US ... so thinking that is the best option

      Great video Tom, did the Ikelite anti reflection ring stop all of the reflections from the corrugated ridges on the 17-40mm lens?

    • @dreamlifephotography
      @dreamlifephotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TankSlaping thanks mate, definitely reduces it a fair amount... you could still get the ridges in extreme situations but its mostly taking out the reflection... I am actually releasing a new updated version of this later today... will send you the link when its up

    How about using an anti reflection crystal dome? I have it now and it's amazing.

    I've not invested in a bigger dome for my camera, but I did get the GDome mobile pro for my iPhone. Unfortunately my iPhone is white, and really kicks off reflections. Initially I cut out some gaff tape to cover up the exposed part, but it leaves a sticky residue. I tried seeing if I could rig a polarizing filter on my phone and stick it in the housing, but the clip was too big, but it did help cut the glare. I was thinking of maybe trying a sheet of liners polarizing filter and tape it inside ... think it'd be worth the effort to try?
    Thanks again for the water droplet tips, Im going to do that. I tried using some spray on gel the company sent me but it didn't seem to work, but I didn't realize you were trying to get the water to stick to it, so maybe I was doing it wrong.

      thanks for the message mate.... yeah with dome ports its always best to use saliva in my experience. The products like the sprays and gels can sometimes work for flat ports but not for domes generally. SOme use baby shampoo for domes ports but i have always had great success with just spit and lick method. The problem is the reflection white surface of the phone, can you get a black phone cover to stop the kick back off the white surface, would it fit in the housing with a thin phone cover on it?

      @@dreamlifephotography Into the light Is the worst, but it can trick you, if you are you shooting in the shade, but if it's a bright day, the bright sky can still cause reflections even though Im not shooting into direct sun. It's tricky :)

    Iam using the Ikelite rings but still have the problem ... instead of the ribs u will get a whole ring reflection ... So not really better. I am trying to build something myself from cloth .... I don't know why there isn't really quality solutions for this problem on the market. Like a metal ring with non reflective material to screw on your lens... the ikelite stickers are just to flimsy and tend to come off after time too :/

      @dreamlifephotography  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, all really good points you raise here.. I think the Ikelite stickers help a bit but I agree they are not perfect. I think you are right, the ribs need to be hidden, If you come up with something let me know

    Hey Tom, Quick question: My newest lens (sony 24-70 gm II) Only fits into my 8“ DomePort at the moment. Will I have a negative side effects from using my setup like this? I want to use the longer focal lengths to capture some waves above the water mainly. I usually use my 20mm inside the domeport.

    • @dreamlifephotography
      @dreamlifephotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the question mate. Technically the dome ports are more designed for lenses 20mm or wider. So I would say using a flat port for your 24-70 would be more ideal...especially when using between 50mm to 70mm. However if its all you have at the moment then it can still work but the results will be mixed. I would work towards finding a flat port that fits your 24-70mm if I was in your shoes. If you already have a flat port but its too short for the 24-70 you can buy an extender (if you are on the Aquatech system) that allows longer lenses

      @@dreamlifephotography Thanks for your swift reply Tom! Unfortunately the Domeport is all I will have or be able to bring, as I am on a Sea Frogs Housing for now. I am just a college student starting out, relocating to the Caribbean for 6 months, so another port doesn’t really fits in my budget for now🥲 (I also think that the one from Seafrogs doesn’t 100% fit my housing) So if I want something save I gotta switch to aquatech sooner or later :)
      I just wanted to know if I could shoot some waves above the water with 50-70mm; I‘d most likely use the 20mm the majority of the time :)

    • @dreamlifephotography
      @dreamlifephotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Low2234 Cool mate, in that case I would definitely try the 50-70mm lens range in the dome. I know some domes work better than others with the longer lens, so you maybe alright. Your 20mm will be more suited, so if its really pumping take the wide out, but it would be worth experimenting to see if you get good results with the 50mm in the dome, it might actually work okay for some shots... The Caribbean trip sounds amazing... hope it goes well for you
