The original British "House of Cards"/"To Play the King"/"The Final Cut" series is way better than the American version. But "Yes, Minister!" and "Yes, Prime Minister!" are far more terrifying than "House of Cards". Can you imagine the clash between Francis Urquhart as PM and his Civil Service Secretary Sir Humphrey Appleby? Or, even worse, their alliance? These men could conquer, destroy and rebuild an empire in a week. And with a nice smile at that.
Ian Richardson is awesome. I classify actors in 3 categories : The one who have no face, those who have one face or those with three faces. Think about it. And our Ian is one of the scarcest: He's actually got three faces. Especially when you include his stage work. Plus this awesome Hamlet version "House of Cards". I'd love to have a chat with him, unfortunately difficult these days, so I've heard. I put him in the same drawer as Daniel Day Lewis, even above him. Awesome actor. But I can't possibly comment this.
I saw this on PBS thirty years ago.I caught the first episode by accident.I was hooked.Francis E.was the most dangerous man in politics since Donald Trump, although ,a helluva lot smarter.
That show is way more terrifying than the American one…
Imagine a world where Underwood is President of the USA and Urquhart is PM of Great Britain...

Just hearing the American theme makes me think of forced bisexual trysts and third wave feminism.
Yeah, Brits are great to play bad guys, the accent shows how scary he is.
Only a dyed in the wool Shakespearean actor like Ian Richardson could play Francis Urquhart to perfection. Lady Macbeth isn't bad either.
