Dave... Mom was a gourmet cook and owned alot of Porcelain on iron/steel cookware. Suggestion... Invest in a nice set of wooden spatulas, scrapers, pasta fork, spoons and in quantity, so you can have free reign to dedicate a utensil to each one of your skillets, pots, pans, etc. Cook~on my friend!🤗👍🐿
The first step to being a better cook is using what the French call "mise en place" or everything put in it's place. Makes cooking so much more relaxing. I line my "mise" up in the order it is used in the recipe. Makes everything much simpler. Really like your series because it makes cooking so much more approachable for people who don't really cook.
I always cut ALL proteins on a cutting board that can go in the dishwasher. Otherwise juice from the protein, especially chicken, will very in the groove made by the knife cuts. I'm from Texas & love chicken & dumplings. I use a lot of baby carrots. Actually chefs do measure out & prepare their ingredients before they begin, its called mise en place which means something to the effect of "everything in place" so it's great that you do that. It's good your C&D came to a boil not just a simmer. Anytime you use roux or corn starch, it doesn't fully thicken until it comes to a boil. I've never put peas in mine, but I think I will next time. You may know all this cuz in watching you, I'm betting you know a lot more about cooking than you let on, but you're fun to watch. 😉
I watch your picker and flipper channels, and I've been watching your cooking channel as well. I decided to watch all of cooking on a Saturday afternoon, so much fun couldn't have spent my time any better. So very fun and you have such a wonderful personality for this. I just adore you and your family. Please don't be so hard on yourself, you are a really great man. Barb
Italian parsley, for cooking and sprinkling on top of finished recipe, flavorful!!! Curley parsley decorate platters of appetizers, sliced roasts, chicken etc. love watching you create!!!
Dave you are great! Normally I buy dumplings frozen or use can dough. I primarily watch your flipper channel and TTC but this is becoming a favorite. 1 tip, when stirring use wooden spoon or spatula to get the "fond" off bottom so it doesn't stick and burn. Italian parsley is my favorite as it has more flavor, so great accident...
HAHA! I shouted " Oh Honey NOooooo! and my Husband came running! He wanted to know why I was so alarmed...then we both watched you attempt to eat screaming hot dumplings again and again!! Keep up your culinary explorations...I'm 3 videos in and now you have two more fans 😂
I think you do really well Dave. You're not a seasoned cook but you give these recipes a good chance to succeed. Watching and enjoying from Canada! 🍁p.s. ....and you're funny!
You're a mess Dave! LOL..... I was totally entertained tho. If I could choose one suggestion from the hundreds that I have, I would recommend that you watch at least 5 other C &D recipe videos by other people who know how to cook.... I give you an A for effort and truly admire your courage in actually eating the finished product! Again, I loved the video and with your determination and willingness to jump in there and just start cooking without any culinary experience is a testament to your perseverance! You're gonna make an excellent "cook" one day! Keep these videos coming! I liked and subscribed!
Acre Homestead is great. Homesteading doesnt mean you have to give up modern amenities. It means you are more self reliant with your food and resources.
Hi Dave! You crack me up, love your videos. That's a nice spin on 🐔 & dumplings with the veggies and, uh, Huge dumplings lol. Looks like a must try; sans the burning of the mouth, haha. Thanks for posting!
Acre homestead is a great channel. Becky lives in a big house with amenities . She has chickens for eggs and began a garden maybe 3 yrs ago and is enlarging the process as time goes and documenting and sharing her progress.. Homesteading is word with broad meaning.
Maybe you could have dropped a little water to pick up the flavoring from the bottom before the butter n flour step. You're one of my favorite cooking channels. Thanks! 😊
Dave, your reselling videos are funny but your cooking channel is hilarious. I like when you always burn your mouth. Reminds me of myself I just can’t wait to dig in. Great video!!
Dave, a roux always gets cooked on low. (I’m from Michigan, married a guy from Louisiana, and had to learn how to cook Cajun/Southern) Using a spatula or wooden cooking spoon would have made it easier to stir the roux. That gives you a chance to scrape the bottom of the pan. That will prevent burning. I just LOVE your cooking shows!!
I had a fusion of Cajun and Sichuan styles of cooking... Most Sichuan dishes never had roux in them...and that was one thing I added in one form or thr other...
Ditch the fork and use a flipper or flat edged big spoon. You need to be able to scrape the bottom so it doesn't burn. Even a wood spoon would be good and not scratch your pan. Love the video. I hate making the roux
Italian parsley is the parsley with most flavor. Curly parsley has very lil flavor but really used for decorating. Don’t use Curley parsley if you want real parsley flavor. It’s just pretty 😍
Yummy! Looks DELICIOUS!! Think i may try to make them for tomorrow dinner! Also i suggest you get the TFal diamond finish pan, Best pan i've ever owned and not too pricey either, i've went through so many pans and this was finally The ONE!
I cut chicken on my wooden board all the time for years .. I rinse my board off and then I clean it with vinegar and salt let stand for 5 min and rinse and dry .. store .. I am still alive because I am tying this suggestion lol .. lv u vds . No question is a dumb question.. only dumb people never ask their for never learn high Tina ❤️❤️❤️❤️
My top three genres on TH-cam are reselling homesteading and mom vlogs. I do watch acre homestead she has an awesome channel. But I found out about this channel from your other channels.
Interesting...Chicken n dumplings is one of my favorites. That recipe is different than traditional chicken n dumplings. I actually cook mine in the crockpot for the ease of it. The chicken should be very soft/tender. Usually without peas/carrots and a thicker sauce. That recipe looks more like soup. I'm sure it tasted good but not what I have ever eaten at a restaurant or what I cook for chicken n dumplings. I always order it at the Apple Barn & the Mill restaurants when we are in TN.
In days of old wooden cutting boards were the norm. The wood grain wood absorbs the raw chicken juice that could bring with it salmonella poisons inherent in chicken products not properly refrigerated to halt spoilage. Modern plastics have mostly taken care of the food poisoning problem as long as you wash everything in contact with the chicken. They don't call it foul for nothing.
thanks for making this recipe and I am looking forward to trying to make...I am not a professional cook either but love your videos and do share them on my Facebook..
Every time I see someone or if I eat something to hot I think of the sitcom Reba. Where the son-in-law Van takes a bite of hot food and does the mouth hot food dance. you have to look up the scene online and watch it. It is so funny.
Hay Dave, when you're chopped veggies are large and/or inconsistently chopped, just call it 'rustic'. That way it makes it seem like you meant for it to be that way. Nobody has to know.
Do a video on fried pickles. I attempted it about 3 days ago. Afterwards, my wife said that I was banned from the kitchen. That’s how bad they came out and I smoked out the entire house 😅
If you are clean don't fret about boards. The concern is that the chicken doesnt' get cleaned up well enough and cross contaminate. The blood was a vein that didn't get pulled out, yes real blood. And too funny, yes they grow.
I keep wondering whether you’re kidding us or not. The best most experienced cooks/chefs always collect and measure out all the ingredients first. It’s called “mis en place”. French for “put in place”. I guarantee you’re not the only one to do this.
Dude.....a quart of chicken broth is 4 cups.....why use the measuring cup for that? It works better if you use a wooden spatula for scraping the bottom of that enamel pan. That fork doesn't get the fond off the bottom and it burns and the fork will eventually scratch that beautiful pan. "Carry on "
Of course they got big. What you did was to make biscuit dough and cook them in liquid instead of baking in the oven. Don’t you expect biscuits to “grow” when baking? Plus I guarantee that it’s not the worlds best chicken and dumplings. Computers aren’t good at everything.
One more thing Dave...you should probably change the name of your video as some other unsuspecting newbie may actually try and follow your recipe and you wouldn't want to cross anyone up. Your video was entertaining and awesome but as I'm sure you've become aware, it isn't the World's Best Chicken and Dumpling Recipe even with the question mark that you added at the end.
Lol no wonder you’re not that good at picking. 😂 you found TH-cam and wanted to make a name through all angles. Makes sense now. . Get good at something honest advice. PS thanks commonwealth picker for the shoutout to this funny content. I appreciate a good laugh.

I grew up with chicken and dumplings and I can say that it is classically made starting with simmering a whole chicken.
I always cut ALL proteins on a cutting board that can go in the dishwasher. Otherwise juice from the protein, especially chicken, will very in the groove made by the knife cuts.

fond = flavor
Dave clean and rinse chicken always please be safe!😊if you don’t want to get anyone sick you must clean chicken first, please be safe Dave😊😊

Your so much fun watching your cooking - awesome🥰
Oh Dave! Another highly entertaining video! Thank you for the laughs!
I think you do really well Dave. You're not a seasoned cook but you give these recipes a good chance to succeed. Watching and enjoying from Canada! 🍁p.s. ....and you're funny!
Wow, thank you
It looked good to me….but yes the dumplings could be a tad smaller. I love how you just throw caution to the wind and cook away…I’ll keep watching!!!!
You're a mess Dave! LOL.....

You have such an awesome soul. I really enjoy your videos. I homestead in FL. I love Acre Homestead ❤
Ditch the fork and use a flipper or flat edged big spoon. You need to be able to scrape the bottom so it doesn't burn. Even a wood spoon would be good and not scratch your pan. Love the video. I hate making the roux
My mother use make the best chicken and dumplings. And she didn’t use heavy cream and it was very tasty. Thanks for sharing.😊
I would love to watch you make pupusas so I could learn! And also, the curtido that goes with it.
Italian parsley is the parsley with most flavor. Curly parsley has very lil flavor but really used for decorating. Don’t use Curley parsley if you want real parsley flavor. It’s just pretty 😍
Your chick and dumplings look great, just like my mom used to make! Great job.
I’m disappointed too; for you and me, because I was looking forward to this❤
Yes, I watch acres homestead , too
FUN. ..GREAT!!!!!!😊😊😊😊
lmao, Dave! Canada makes the best chicken and dumplings. Iove the channel, go Dave go!
Yummy! Looks DELICIOUS!! Think i may try to make them for tomorrow dinner!
Also i suggest you get the TFal diamond finish pan, Best pan i've ever owned and not too pricey either, i've went through so many pans and this was finally The ONE!
looks yum.. I use chicken thighs bone in with skin or cut up whole chicken.. i pressure cook the meat with onion celery carrots garlic
I cut chicken on my wooden board all the time for years .. I rinse my board off and then I clean it with vinegar and salt let stand for 5 min and rinse and dry .. store .. I usually prefer shredded chicken over cubed chicken in chicken and dumplings.
In preparation should the cutting board be washed after cutting chicken to avoid any type of contamination?
6:50 - You are chopping with a push-cut on the blade holding the carrot with the claw grip to keep your fingertips safe. Good work! :D
I love that solid metal knife. What brand is it?
Interesting...Chicken n dumplings is one of my favorites. That recipe is different than traditional chicken n dumplings. I actually cook mine in the crockpot for the ease of it. Omg, Dave, you make me laugh. I always blame Canada. And your description of the way parsley smells made me cackle.
“The whole thing is lumps?” 😂
Hilarious!
You could also make noodles. I like dumplings in my stew.
use rotissiery chicken. Love yor show

That was great😄 It looks really good! Just blow Dave-Blow🌬🌬
thanks for making this recipe and I am looking forward to trying to make...I am not a professional cook either but love your videos and do share them on my Facebook..
Thanks TYGER!
Just out of curiosity, what part of Fl? Just subscribed, and I think you’re doing a great job!
Daytona
Try making the best German Pancakes.
(Hint: must have fresh lemon, powd sugar and maple syrup on top). It’s easy but impressive
Is that a vintage pyrex bowl you are using?
yes indeed
Some of those sell really well. I have over a hundred of them I collected for the wife.
U make me laugh out loud😂
Melt the butter then add the flour for a rue
Overcrowding any meat will steam it instead of browning. 3 T of baking powder will make large dumplings indeed.
Hi Molly😊❤
Itslian parsley is regular flat leaf parsley used in cooking wow dude really

Lol, right?
Cook up the scraps for the dog
Dave when food is that HOT it’s hard to really taste it. 😊
Good job Dave. Keep sending your cooking videos our way. Next time, let your food cool off before tasting it.
Nahhh; he's a glutton for punishment lol!
Do a video on fried pickles. I attempted it about 3 days ago. Afterwards, my wife said that I was banned from the kitchen. That’s how bad they came out and I smoked out the entire house 😅
Wooden spoon. Metal utensils scratch the pans. You are so funny. I am surprised you have any taste buds left. You usually try to scald them off. Lol😂
💜💯👍🏻👋🏻
Always use wooden spoons 😊
I will, thanks for the tip!
Use a spoon my friend when sautéing
Don’t you peel your carrots 🥕??😊
If you are clean don't fret about boards. The concern is that the chicken doesnt' get cleaned up well enough and cross contaminate.
The blood was a vein that didn't get pulled out, yes real blood.
And too funny, yes they grow.
Use a spoon!
Raw chicken juices absorb into the porous wooden boards......
Use a spoon
I keep wondering whether you’re kidding us or not. The best most experienced cooks/chefs always collect and measure out all the ingredients first. It’s called “mis en place”. French for “put in place”. I guarantee you’re not the only one to do this.
Let food rest for 10 minutes after you take it off stove so you can actually eat it!! LOL!!The sauce will thicken up a bit as it cools….you want that.
Hope hurricane doesn’t get you and your family. We’re headed to key largo sept. 8th for the month. Actually, hope it doesn’t get us either! Be safe!
You make me crazy every time that fork goes back in that pot
I would have cut another carrot 🥕
Carrot peels do NOT have a pleasant taste soooooo, Peel your carrots and cut them into consistent uniformed bite sizes. Don't mince them.
Big dumpling’s
The biggest ever lol

Request from my 15 year old son - "Can the guy who taught you to make those flautas teach you to make soft pretzels?"
Just don't use metal PLEASE!
Ummmmmm.....ive never cook them that way before .... I cook it a couple times a year from starch and yeah
Of course they got big. What you did was to make biscuit dough and cook them in liquid instead of baking in the oven. Don’t you expect biscuits to “grow” when baking? Plus I guarantee that it’s not the worlds best chicken and dumplings. Computers aren’t good at everything.
That fork scratching the bottom of the pan, I'm out, lol...

Stop with the metal fork😮
Idea stop using a fork to stir I need a spoon or a silicone spatula plz at least try lol
Turn the stove off
Lol no wonder you’re not that good at picking. 😂 you found TH-cam and wanted to make a name through all angles. Makes sense now. . Get good at something honest advice. PS thanks commonwealth picker for the shoutout to this funny content. I appreciate a good laugh.
Hopefully, I don’t give nobody food poisoning. . Hopefully.😂 it gets more and more funny 😂.
LMAO why didn't you wait for it to COOL off?
before I continue... bruh you just put an empty spoon in your mouth at 0:03
and then try to say MMMmm MmmM good . Who you think you are Kamala Harris?
