Ah, the good ol' days. NBA in Seattle. A Sonics-Rockets playoff series. Good team basketball being played. And Shawn Kemp in Sonics uniform. Hard to believe that this was almost 27 years ago.
You must be thinking of the following year. This was the year they had their second best record in franchise history and the year they finally beat Seattle in the playoffs. Not a bad year at all, it just sucks the way it ended.
He was still good in 97-98, his first season with the Cavs and made the All-Star team and helped them get to the playoffs.. Then he arrived at camp overweight after the lockout in 1999, and it was all over from there.

Karl a Jordan hater. He’s with Zeke on the hate train…also that’s goofy cause Jordan beat them. They were able to bounce Hakeem out of the playoffs, never Mike. Simple logic
They should have given him the max deal. He earned it. But instead they trade him away in a 3-team deal in which they got Vin Baker in return. That's just a downgrade.
In the Rudy Tomjanovich/George Karl era when the matchups actually mattered with them being contending teams they faced each other only 3 times. The 1st time the Sonics benefitted from bad officiating in the overtime period and the 2nd matchup the Rockets didn't have a PF to matchup with the Sonics forwards who all played in the post they were using Chucky Brown out of position there.
Not in this series. Also, if you watch that game 7 in ‘93, the refs blew some obvious calls that should have gone the rockets way and of course Seattle took advantage as they needed every bit of help as it went down to the wire.
The Sonic had our number. We were okay with Phoenix taking out the Sonic bc Phoenix had the Sonic number bc we matchup we bad against Sonic and they had such good bench in the 90s. We were screwed 93 gm 7 with 3 blown calls. But we had Phoenix number bc they self destruct.
@@ShallOvercome24-7 The championship team with Thorpe at the PF position beat everyone in their conference at least twice that season, as a matter of fact the Sonics averaged a significantly lower shooting % (low 40's) against them when Thorpe was there. The Rockets team that matched up poorly with the Sonics was the version that didn't have a legitimate PF and players like Chucky Brown was starting at the position. The Sonics in 96 averaged over 50% in both the regular season and postseason because the Rockets had to double team the forwards often who all played in the low post. With Thorpe/Herrera and later Barkley/Willis the Rockets were able to defend them a lot better. The Suns also played a lot of small ball causing similar problems for the Rockets, Barkley was their only low post player though so the Rockets still could matchup with them w/o Thorpe and Herrera.
This game and G6 of the next round exposed Clyde Drexler's poor decisions. Down 4 with 13s, he should have drove (either getting fouled or easy deuce) instead of attempting three. As if prophetic, with tied game in WCF G6, "The Glide" failed to get a shot and left precious seconds that led to John Stockton's clutch three and finally advancing to the NBA Finals.
