I'm disabled and every con I get a special sticker which states I and my immediate party are allowed to go with me through exits like their entrances, because the con is so big I get trampled following the crowd. Actually was pushed over a few times, and they implemented this so those in wheelchairs or on crutches etc could avoid it.
I had a security member put his hands on me, I weigh 120 soaking wet, and use crutches. He manhandled me and told me he didnt care if I was disabled or not, it wasnt allowed, when con staff strictly gave me the okay.
I contacted the disability director and they got the dude fired on the spot.
The security director apologized and made a call out on the radio reminding his staff you're not supposed to directly touch the congoers, ESPECIALLY if they have crutches etc, because you could hurt them and the company would be responsible.
    Idiots.

Carnivorous Turtle I’m very glad, as well. They did give me a warning, however, since I did unsheathe my “knife” on him in reflex. But I hit him instead since I didn’t want to break my knife, I worked so hard on it and it looked so good ;-:
But no one else touched me, after that. My friend who went along with me watched very closely, and any other creepers who tried to hit on me or something like that- we made sure we had a plan. Our plan was to act like girlfriends, and she’d take my hand or show dominance. We’re like, super fucking close friends, so she understood every look or movement I’d make. If I touched her shoulder, there was someone behind us. Her hand was squeezed, I needed her to put up the “girlfriend” ruse again. Wrist? We need to get closer to my mom.
Thankfully, mom told us we could go back to the hotel room in the middle of the day. I needed to update my TikTok with the videos I had taken, anyway.

I think it'd be hilarious to cosplay as a "White Knight" and dress in literally a white full suit of armor, then stalk the stalkers. As soon as you see something inappropriate like this, you make a huge scene of striding valiantly over there and going, "HALT, THOU PERVASIVE FIEND! Begone from yonder maiden! Thine vile heart be greasier than the beard on thine foul neck!" and goofy callouts like that until they awkwardly leave. You then have to make sure you leave the scene as well, and don't even talk to the victims (unless they talk to you first), or else you're just a creeper too.

Late to the party, but I have the same issue with my girlfriend. There have been a couple of times where it's been... dire.. to say the least. From a guy that grabbed her hand by force proclaiming her to be his girl to a guy straight up wanting to molest her at a busstop(she got out without harm because of a friend luckily). We've been together for over 10 years and this still happens. Last I remember was a couple of months back. She was waiting on me at a train station when some dude tried to talk her up. When I arrived I saw him eyeing me nervously and when he heard about me being her boyfriend he just bailed. I thought it was one of her classmates, given how he was acting around her, but he wasn't.

Instead of you guys jumping to conclusions about what I said, let me explain it for you before you attack me for having a conversation. Galaxy said that Asian cosplayers "get it the worst". They then continued to state that they get treated unfairly instead of like normal, hinting at racism at cons.
I replied by stating that to those unfair people, they don't always find every asian race "cute". They usually find japanese/korean women cute, as that's the typical anime-girl, cutesy race. Saying that isn't racist, it's the truth. If somebody's being racist here, it would honestly be Galaxy for the assumption of asian women. Asian doesn't just mean japanese or korean. I stated that, by telling her that usually those weeboos and men only find japanese/koreans cute, not the other parts of Asia, ex. Filipino, Indian, etc. I know that, my mother is Filipino and honestly she'd look uncute in a little schoolgirl outfit. After I say that, Galaxy tells me I missed the point. But instead of being helpful, teling me I missed it, and then WHAT I MISSED. They just throw that comment at me, which is rude, and almost an attack like saying "You're dumb". Trying to understand what I missed, I ask where we might have been thinking differently. What do I get back? An attack. That's just immature. If you don't want to have a mature conversation about this, fine. But if that's what you want, I hope I don't get any notifications from this thread from either of you after this.

Friendly pro tip if anyone is unsure about where to put your hands with a cosplayer in a picture! Keanu Reeves does this sort of pose thing where he has his arms around the people in the photo but keeps his hands off, and sort of *jazzy hands* them so they don’t look awkward. Also! If you feel comfortable enough, ask the cosplayer to do peace signs, easy Jojo poses, thumbs up, and so on with you! I feel like if we start making stuff like that more normal we may get a couple less stories like this, the people I know personally that have been groped had it happen when a person took a photo with them and put their hand too low or too high around their waist. And if you are still comfortable with holding someone’s waist with a hand like is common, but the other person says no - chances are it’s nothing personal! It’s just their comfort level!
I’m lucky that so far I haven’t dealt with any creeps, but my *weirdest* situation happened when Doug Cockle (voice of Geralt from the Witcher series) saw me in a hotel lobby while I was dressed as a maid version of Guy Fieri and reacted about as you’d expect, so take that as you will. That was memorable.

That won't do, that's like teaching rapists not to rape.
The guy who grope girls don't do it because they don't know any better, they want to touch someone dressed as their waifu. They're crap who deserve to at least get kicked out of the con.
I can assure you that if a guy touches a girl by accident, he'll immediately apologize, as a normal guy would respect cosplayers, even more if they want a photo with them.

    • @redmasquerade13
      @redmasquerade13 5 ปีที่แล้ว +21

Burn Angel I fully agree, and whenever I’m at a con one of my top priorities is keeping an eye out for people who are clearly made uncomfortable by someone. But I know there’s a current climate where some people are worried about touching people, even in friendly photos, so I made the suggestions in hopes that maybe those who read it who might be nervous have an idea of what to do in those situations, or the cosplayers who don’t want to be touched. But you are definitely right - creeps don’t give a fuck about what is good or bad, they have motives that make them shirk common decency, and I hope to god more people start to out those fuckers loudly!

10:07 - I have a similar story. Way back in 2005, my buddies went to a video game convention outside of Philadelphia. My good kemosabe Mike decided to cosplay as a decaying zombie Santa Claus, in order to promote his indie horror movies to random people. Mind you, were were both just attendees and not vendors. After going inside and walking around for a few minutes, one of the staff members grabbed the both of us and gave Mike a big lecture about how his zombie Santa makeup was too gruesome and offensive, and that it would shock people. They told him to remove the costume or else we'd both be kicked out, since they claimed this was a "family event", and that it was sponsored by a major TV network. A security guard forced him to go to into a men's room and wash off his makeup. He kept the Santa suit, but removed most of the zombie makeup: this unfortunately wasn't enough for the bald asshole security guard, so he demanded he go back and remove all of the makeup. Eventually Mike was left just wearing a Santa suit, with no blood or guts - and just his regular face without the slightest bit of blood, and even the fake dark circles under his eyes were forced to be wiped off.
Throughout the rest of the convention, that bald asshole security guard kept following us around and giving us dirty looks while his arms were folded. Meanwhile, several other cosplayers showed up and wandered around: scantily-clad women in semi-nude goth outfits, and in some cases bloody makeup (I'm assuming they were various "sexy" versions of Silent Hill and Resident Evil characters). Did the staff members hassle them? Of course not. 14 years later and this still pisses us off.

Oh man, I can finally find a place to tell this story.
When I was 16, I went to delta H con, a really small con in my area, and cosplayed the me!me!me! girl when it was at it's hype. I was walking with my friend and this 40 year old asian guy cosplaying ness stopped us to ask for a photo. No big deal, I was ready to pose and my friend moved out the way. He ask if I can go down the hall to take "better photos" even though the lighting was awful there but I'm like "sure why not". I go there while my friend is watching from a distance and he says to me "you look tired from your heels, why don't you take them off and sit down?" I was a bit weirded out but I just went with it, trying to get it over with. I sat on the ground and tried making my face look cute. The fucker goes ahead and takes my thigh highs off, goes up close to my feet, nabs photos and books it so quick that I didn't even have time to react. My friend witnessed the entire thing from the corner and I'm sitting on the ground with my bare feet out thinking "what the fuck just happened?"
Never saw him again. To this day, anytime I see a Ness cosplayer I internally scream and try my best not to freak out. Fun times.

About 10 years ago I was at Supanova in Brisbane cosplaying as Hunk from Resident Evil. I feel a tug at my pants and look down through my very foggy gas mask to see a little girl about 5 dressed as Princess Peach, who asked me if she can have a photo with me. I instinctively looked around for a parent and saw her mum looking at me with more than a little disdain as the little girl said "Mummy I wanna picture with the gas-mask man!" I indicated that I was ok with this but her mum looked about at the other less-survival horror-inspired cosplayers desperately.
"Oh, um.... look! There's a Mario! Don't you want to get a picture with a Mario instead?" she asked, or rather pleaded.
"NO I WANNA PHOTO WITH THE GAS MASK MAAAAAN!!!!" was the wailing response.
Knowing it to be a battle she couldn't win (I'd guess from experience) she sighed and held up the camera. I knelt down to make it easier to get us both in frame. Then I hear the little girl ask "Can I hold the gun?" I look at the mum, she gave a look back that implied I just do it to get this done faster. So I pass her the $2 Crazy Clarks plastic MP5.
In a move that'd make whatever martial arts teacher she undoubted sees proud, she shoves the gun under my chin and grabs my collar with enough force to knock me off balance enough that I have to go from a kneel to holding myself up on one arm while my other stuck out in front to counterbalance me.
    And she pulls the trigger.
TL;DR Umbrella Corporation's coldest motherfucker gets taken out by the Mushroom Kingdoms baddest preschooler.

so i went to a con as Tatsumaki with 2 friends, one was her OC, and the other was Karkat. the karkats dad was supervising but he really liked the con stuff, too. (he mostly liked cowboy beebop and such) anyways, i got off topic.
the OC friend runs up to me and is like "bella! bella! theres a couple cosplaying Dipper and Bill Cipher and they kissed!!"(note, she practically screamed this)
i was like 'oh, thats cute' and then, then wave of fangirls...
this poor couple was bombarded byy BillDip fangirls asking for them to kiss for a picture, the OC friend being one of them. the couple look pretty uncomfortable and i kinda just gave them an 'im sorry' look.

Went to a con dressed as the 'MAGNET' version of Megurine Luka (Vocaloid) two months after I had my daughter. Was still breastfeeding and my partner had a lung infection so he stayed home. Went to the Con with the stroller, diaper bag and everything, intending to meet up with friends. Stayed in the lobby of the hotel for the most part, copious amounts of hand sanitizer and a plastic covering over the carseat/stroller to keep con crud away from my newborn. Went to a private portion of the lobby with a few couches, and started breastfeeding my daughter (even had a 'butterfly' blanket that matched my headset, so to maintain my modesty.
Had a guy show up and sit across from me while I was feeding my daughter. Kinda weird but whatever. I was covered up and we were discussing the cosplay. After about twenty minutes, I unlatch my daughter from her feeding, burp her, and put her back in her car seat where she proceeded to nap. I readjusted my cosplay to hide the straps of my maternity bra and the guy says "You have lovely breasts. I'm jealous of your daughter." and I look at him and ask "What do you mean jealous?" Bracing for a response I hoped wouldn't come. He mentions his breast milk fetish, and how if I had any left, whether I'd sell it to him, and that he'd pay extra to take it 'from the source.' I couldn't believe what I had just heard with my own two ears. I asked him if he would have said something like that to literally ANYONE ELSE in a setting outside of this, and told him he was a pig, and should be embarrassed of himself. Left in a hurry after that.
Haven't been to a convention since.

Cons are fun, but creeps suck! Tips to get away from creeps at cons if they dont go away:
    1. Make eye contact with anyone, groups too, and say 'hey guys you're here' and leave with them. They wont push you away. Stay with them until your far away from the creep.
    2. Go to the dealers hall. If its a big/medium con, dealers halls are ypur great escape. Get lost in the crowd and walk fast.
    3. Find con staff/ security. They will take care of the creep for you.
    4. Ignore them completely. Hopefully, they get the hint.
    5. If they lay a hand on you, SCREAM LOUD. Get attention! Trust me, con goers in the vicinity will come to the rescue. Say things like 'I dont know this person', or 'I need help' and get out of there.
Convention's are really fun places to be and seeing cosplay is really something special, it sucks that people are like this, so hopefully this stuff helps anyone who feels unsafe.

or asking us to do face reveal, sometimes they just follow us around, I definitly enjoy the ones that are genuinely loving the game that we are cosplaying in (especially Dark Souls) but some just....stalks you. follows you. ever watching.
I just think that they are shy and want to just be there to chill, but it's even worst when I talk to them and they flee.
That and the annual protester about cosplay is a sin at Anime North (In Ontario, Canada)
Anywho. odd times. But Cosplay is a great hobby in general, loving it and will never stop :D We..umm... just think 'creeps' are misunderstood nice shy people.

Honestly, nothing creepy really. Might be due to culture (people are generally respectful of other people's space), everyone always asks if they can hug the "free hugs" people and so on.
Once cosplaying a character I met a woman who had the biggest crush on my character. She was too embarrassed and shy to come to me, so I opened my arms and showed her to come forward to hug me, and she ran to me and jumped and clinged onto my neck so tightly as she blabbered how she cried when my character died etc. It was just cute and I felt happy I had made someone's day.

I did Bishoman from Noragami when I was like 14 or 15 which is a very showy outfit but a prime example of clothing of anykind isnot consent because she is one of the most badass anime women I know and one of only like 3 females I cosplay cause dysphoria and general body image issues. This outfit though my confidence skyrockets and I can even act like Bishoman so its still one of my favorites and a go to "Last Day of Con and I Want to Dress Up but Dont Want Effort" cosplay. The reason I mention this particular cosplay is that when I first wore it at 14 or 15, I had been fully expecting quite a few creeps cause people dont seem to understand that showy clothes do not mean a person is asking for it even outside of a con setting and I chose her weapon thats the easiest to make which is a whip cause I had like a week to make it. To my surprise and delight people had actually been really chill and polite and the worst it had gotten was a few people who were afraid of seeming creepy given my age and outfit but thought it was well done so they came across as really awkward and some people's awkward comes across as creepy but we've all been there. Well I was doing one of these pictures with a photographer I actually follow online when I felt someone trying to peek under my skirt. Jokes on him, I Always have a prop for a reason and I know how to use a whip so whilr staying in pose snapped the whip back right across the creep's face effectively making him stop and the photographer went with me to report it cause he had switched to action shots when he noticed the guy but that I seemed unphased so figured I had it handled but wanted me to have evidence just incase. Found out the creep guy was in his late 40s so 3X my age and I was a minor.

13 yrs old, I kept getting glomped by girls while in a lolita cosplay and had a photographer offer me a "private shoot"
Dressed as chibitalia (14)and fell asleep in the arcade waiting for my sister to redo her makeup. I woke up to find a guy "resting" his hand on my calf/up my skirt
15 yrs old and I had my, moderately conservative gothic lolita, picture end up on a hentai site
Bonus: 16 yrs old and I had to fight a dude off who was trying to separate me from my group for a pic when i wasnt even in cosplay

    Ok, I have a story:
I went to Taiyou Con in Phoenix this past year, and it was my first convention ever. My friends and I all decided to do Soul Eater together for one of the days, which was actually really popular. We were stopped countless times for pictures, and I was having an amazing time. There was a get together for Soul Eater happening later that day, and we decided to stop by to take pictures with other people who were also dressed as Soul Eater characters.
Now, I was dressed as Crona and my best friend was dressed as Death the Kid. I got a request from another Death the Kid to take a picture with her (I'm also female), and I said yes. What she didn't tell me was that the picture was one of those OTP photos where the characters are supposed to make out. Pretty soon, she's leaning in, eyes half closed and lips puckered as she wraps her arms around me. I massively hesitate and flinch away (I also somehow manage to stay in character) but she doesn't take the hint. My BFF (who does NOT approve of the Crona/Kid ship) steps in and pushes her arms directly in between us and practically wreches us away from each other. I'm sure it made for a hilarious photo l, having two Kids and a Crona, but it terrified me because it was my first convention ever and I didn't expect people to behave like that.
Anyway, thank you to those who read all the way through this. All I can say now is stay safe and respect people's boundaries. Always ask for permission and consent at conventions.

This isn’t really creepy but once me, my aunt and my uncle were waiting in line at the concessions at a comic con. While we were waiting, some guy started talking to my aunt. My aunt was dressed up as a character from Fallout, and I’m pretty sure the guy had no idea who she was supposed to be but made conversation with it anyways. Some time passes by and my uncle finds us and comes into the conversation. My uncle was dressed as a trailer park boy, sporting a mullet, hockey stick, and a flaming blue and red shirt. The guy who was potentially hitting on my aunt notices him and asks what is his costume, to which my uncle replies “what costume?”. Immediately after, the guy says something like,”oh...um” and then just bolts off. After realizing what had just happened, my aunt scolds my uncle as I die laughing in the middle of them.

"threatened to attack my cosplay buddy with a yaoi paddle if he didn't "support the empire""
Sorry, but that being said just sounds hilarious. If that was said to me, I might laugh. Unless I was cosplaying other Hetalia character. Then I would've been annoyed, I'd mutter out something along of lines that I don't really roleplay, and go away.
But still, attack with a yaoi paddle... Supporting the empire...😂

I just came back from a con from this weekend and really didn't have anything huge on this scale happening. That's why there's so many rules implemented. Like no Live Metal props or armor is allowed (to prevent such incidents like stated in the video). And a major thing is ALWAYS asking for permission first. It's one thing to be expressing love towards a cosplayer dressed up as your favorite character (I got that a lot where random people would run up to me and shout how much they love Wei Wu Xian and yes that was who I was cosplayed as on the first day). Cosplay does not equal consent!
The closest scariest moment I had was when a Con staff (she was the assisting director of the con) came running into the bathroom while I was washing my hand. Scared the crap out of me by saying "Sorry but can you help me!" She was in tears and was literally having a panic attack on me and another con-goer by the sink. I was startled and flustered on how to handle her situation. What happened was, she just had to deal with an old guy who had a professional camera who was apparently getting the way of another photo session (of another professional photographer) with his behavior. She went there to tell that old guy to move to another place and ask for permission to photograph cosplayers. The old guy got aggressive with her by getting up into her face and threatening to take pics and make statements about her 'true nature' and other threats. He was removed forcefully by security from the con and his badge revoked. I ended up staying with the staff lady while the other con-goer ran out to get water for her. And this was only the first day when this all went down...boyfriend wondered why I took so long in the bathroom lol.

the problem with most of these creeps is that they keep forgetting that cosplayers aren't actually who they cosplay.
They're people in _costumes_ who just want to have a good time around people with similar interests.
Besides, even if those characters they love so dearly were real, they probably wouldn't appreciate the perverted comments and sexual assault either.

This is the creepiest thing that’s happened to me at a con: I’m a guy but I was cosplaying Kanna Kamui from Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid. There was a guy running a booth that sold buttons. I went up to look at them, and his daughter who looked about 5 (she was sitting in a car seat watching an iPad) got up and started giggling and said “Are you sure you don’t want these ones?” She pointed to pins of explicit naked anime girls with their chests out that said “h*ntai” on it. I laughed nervously and said “hah, no thanks.” (Keep in mind I am very much a minor.) I walk away since her Dad was busy talking and I needed to get my wallet. Anyway, I came back when her dad wasn’t busy anymore and I had my wallet. I said “Do you take card?” And he said “yeah.” He took it and looked at it. It was a kind of debit card for kids that said “allowance manager” on it with a picture of a piggy bank. He said “allowance manager, huh?” And he continued to make fun of me for the fact that it was an allowance manager card. I laughed awkwardly. Then he said “are you sure your parents will let you use this? I also take other forms of payment later,” he said in a weird voice and winked. I laughed nervously again and said no. I finished the transaction and left ASAP. The fact that he acknowledged that I was a very young minor at the time and still said that and the whole thing with his daughter is really concerning. I really hope she’s doing okay. Not only was he willing to expose her to nudity and highly sexual themes but he also hit on me, a kid at the time. All around creepy.

On my first cosplay, i went in as shinobu kocho in a university, and some random guy suddenly hugged my waist real tight for a couple of seconds then ran away. He made me almost loose my balance and my sword, pants, and belt are all messy.
Not only that, one of my friends was stalked through the entire day. When we wanted to go and ask him why he did it, he will also ran away.

I remember when I cosplayed as Yuri from Doki Doki Literature Club and omfg let me tell you... All the adult men commenting on how short my skirt was so uncomfortable. I'm really tall (5'8), so I can't help how short a cosplay skirt is on me. I should've told them I was a minor so they would stop. Luckily this year I'm going to the same convention as Susie from Deltarune so HOPEFULLY no creepy guys will hit on me.

I wish people would call out these disgusting perverts instead of just "acting like I didn't see or just shrugged it off". The more you stand up and call them out, the less likely they'll keep doing it.
