I didn’t want to get a Mac, because of the lack of control I had over my pc. Now Microsoft is becoming the same way. Annoying.

Forget. MS don't disable defender even with policy completely. Defender autoenables after some time or restart. Defender Control (Sordum) tool can disable/enable defender completely. Other defender killer tools which worked until 21h1 or 20h2 dont work for me

Anybody that says otherwise is not truthful. Been through all this and Security Settings / Defender Antivirus shows its off but if you install and run a trainer for a game, it dump the trainer even if you allow it. I also use Malwarebytes , have been for a very long time and lately it does what defender does so I wash my hands of windoezzzzzzzzzzzzz and turn to Linux. My friend has been using it for over 10 years and has no such problems. Says gaming is smooth on Linux now. I will go with dual boot with a dedicated SD for Linux.
I'm also confused why you'd want to randomly advise anyone to do this. If they install a different anti-virus app, Windows Defender Antivirus will disable itself anyway once it detects you're using a different product. I can't wait for the next video where you explain how to turn the firewall off, then enable all macros, VB and ActiveX to run inside Microsoft Office without warning 🙄
You installed software that breaks many protections built into the OS, these must be circumvented if an AV is to do what it claims to do, however ironically when they do this the have weakened the OS's ability to protect itself. You might not have seen any problems, but victims of viruses seldom do. Give it time.
So, after an update, Defender blocked me on a win10 activator I know to be good. The build's too new for me to use this method. Good thing I got a win7 lappy for just such an occasion.

When it sees non-virus as viruses and whitelisting is impossible, it's a pain in the ass. I have to disable it every startup, since on Windows Home you don't have access to Group Policy, because it deletes my executables that I know aren't viruses. Getting viruses doesn't come out of the blue, you'd have to be looking for them. If you know what you're doing, an antivirus becomes annoying.

Why anyone would want to disable the AV provided by the OS with correctly enabled API's and hooks into the kernel I don't know. A 3rd party AV has to break the OS to do its job, introducing new vulnerabilities and problems. Eg any 3rd party AV has to behave like a virus to gain control of the OS. Furthermore a 3rd party OS cannot know all of the secrets hidden within the OS that protect it. If you want to use a 3rd party AV program, use an Open Source OS without secrets in the kernel. Real security is behaviour and training from a reputable source and regular updates to that training.
Yeah, this video is really bad. They don't give any context as to when you might need to do this, or warn sufficiently the risks of doing this, but just present it in a way that suggests it's a standard thing that should be done. Of all the random things they could do a video on, why this?

Not the ram is the problem: Defender scan uses 30-40% cpu usage under gaming.

Sometimes it uses disk 100%, so you need to turn it off to know if he is the issue
