Also another HUGE issue. Even for people who WANT to use edge uninstalling and reinstalling is a pretty common troubleshooting step. So if edge breaks you're out of luck. The Microsoft store was 100% broken for me for about 2 years and I couldn't uninstall it and reinstall it to fix it just like you couldn't with edge. I basically just had to wait until some random update re-wrote whatever file was broken/corrupted and it randomly started working again. Microsoft needs to realize that doing stuff like this makes people LESS likely to use their web browser. Not more likely. Sure have it install with windows, have it shortcut itself on the desktop, and have it give a little "You sure you don't want to try edge?" pop up when you go to download firefox or chrome. But anything more than that is scummy and borderline malware IMO. If you have to go into the registry to uninstall something then I consider it malware.

7:08 That's not a leftover of the now-uninstalled Edge Chromium by the way. That's a leftover of Edge UWP. You know, the now fully obsolete, useless, and non-functional version of Edge that predated the switch to Chromium? That thing is still part of Windows 11, albeit in a very crippled, forgotten state, to what should be no one's surprise by now.
You need to edit the AppX repository database with an SQLite editor to unlock the ability to uninstall that one too, and then there's removing the Internet Explorer optional package leftovers using install_wim_tweak. After that, all visible leftovers of Microsoft web browsers are gone for good. It should now follow as common sense that if you were to forget to install, or uninstall any alternative browsers, you'll have no web browsers on your Windows machine, period. As it should be.
Not to mention if you wanna debloat further, it might be helpful to start with a uupdump-built ISO of Windows 11 made on a Linux OS, since that one, conveniently, doesn't support provisioning the default appx packages into the ISO, meaning you start with no UWP apps aside from the truly critical system ones, like the start menu and Configuration apps. Edge UWP is still in that special top-most critical list, so you still have to manually delete it, but it's progress.

    • @3lH4ck3rC0mf0r7
      @3lH4ck3rC0mf0r7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +32

@@AyushTH Well, they already hide Edge UWP automatically when Chromium Edge is present, so why not do the same with Edge Chromium when any other browsers are installed?
You know, the same way Windows Defender already disables itself when you have another AV on?
Better yet, have an open WebView provider mechanism like Android that allows you to choose what browser is used when software needs to embed a web renderer inside its UI.
Edge automatically reinstalls itself during Windows and Visual Studio updates, takes over the desktop when a new user first logs on, tries to force users to complete its setup process, then sneakily adds itself to autostart and remains in the background as part of its "Fast Start" feature, even though most people will be using other browsers, and Microsoft intentionally made switching browser associations more cumbersome. And there's probably other sins I haven't used Edge long enough to find out.
It's awfully intrusive, and honestly pretty pathetic at this point. No wonder the thumbnail gave MS Edge a Potentially Unwanted Program malware moniker.

This is just one of the reasons I switched to Linux after more than 10 years of using Windows. The amount of tweaks you have to do to have a usable system is crazy.
Seriously, it's almost like Microsoft WANTS users to stop using it.
If I HAD to use Windows, I would probably switch to Windows 7, because every version released later on only worsens the user experience. More telemetry, more lazy GUI's slapped onto archaic code and more data siphoned from the user.
I understand if people HAVE to use Windows for a certain purpose (the adobe suite for some reason, multiplayer gaming with anti-cheat or work-related programs), and if all someone does is sit in their browser, Windows is perfectly fine for that. But the moment I decide I want my system to work differently (maybe I want custom shortcuts or a different theme or I want to use the command line) I'm almost always met with the need to install some program from a website I've never heard of, or I have to completely corrupt my install to the point that I can't get the newest updates.
Yes, that's something you have to do if you want to theme "your" Windows.
It's sad to see a good operating system turn into a pile of lazy code and ads, and I hope that Microsoft one day makes such a huge mistake that it'll completely ruin the market share, because that's pretty much where they're headed right now with the decisions they're making.
That was my rant, thanks for reading.

I’ve tried out many times Linux in VMs and on spare laptops and it’s amazing how much of a difference it makes, in terms of freedom and user interface, but I can’t leave Windows because of multiple reasons. I’m a C# programmer, but I use older non-cross-platform versions of the language to make most of my projects/mods, so running Linux wouldn’t give me perfect results. The most insulting part is sometime after this video was uploaded, some genius at Microsoft decided to break the uninstaller such that neither using the uninstall option you enabled through regedit - nor 'setup.exe --uninstall --force-uninstall --system-level' - would do anything outside of a UAC prompt requesting admin privileges. I have confirmed this with Microsoft Edge version 107.0.1418.35 but if anyone has noticed the same behaviour with versions 104, 105, or 106, then feel free to mention said version of Edge with the same behaviour.

I hate Microsoft for forcing you into their products, if you like it or not. They try so hard to make that you stick to their browser and OS, just because they want to have monopoly over all market shares. I couldn't install or boot into anything besides Windows on used PC I bought for little server project, I had to wipe the NTFS partition from hard drive just to make Linux bootable from USB stick because there was some kind of crap that tried to stop Linux from booting while Windows 10 was present on hard drive (and I tried several distros like Mint, Ubuntu, Debian, Arch). And on top of that they make that SecureBoot requirement for Windows 11 to install and have partnership with Lenovo to ship their laptops with chips that prevent anything besides Windows to be installed on them. I could understand that monopolistic approach in 90s or even mid-to-late 2000s, but now Windows is so dominant on the market that it doesn't need any of that nonsense, it is already in most households all over the world. Just give people some choice Microsoft, at least when they are using your system.

I didn't want to uninstall it, as there is the occasional, rare use-case of it, and I know how hard it is to reinstall if you ever change your mind, but I had far too many tickets of users using it, thinking it was IE (which was required for certain applications), and everyone was supposed to use IE or Chrome, as these were the only two browsers we supported and/or they were supposed to use.

Starting with MS Edge 105, it is no longer possible to uninstall it :/ Typing the command in cmd.exe does nothing, and changing the registry value does allow you to click on uninstall, but nothing happens afterwards. The only way to remove MS Edge now is to reinstall Windows, disconnect from the Internet and remove Edge before it automatically downloads v105 :D

Granted, the OS only lets you do it with a developer tool intended for testing, but still. And it doesn't have to be a total uninstall. Android allows users to disable noncritical system apps (among them Chrome and Android System WebView) and reenable them from the Settings app at any time. Microsoft could do the same, marking Edge as an optional feature users could delete and redownload from the Apps and Features configuration applet the way they can do with stuff like WordPad and .NET Framework 3.5. You can even uninstall Windows Media Player and Notepad that way, and there's even Windows editions without Windows Media Foundation. You could argue these are as much core Windows components as IE and Edge are, if not even more so.

Meanwhile, Apple does a lot to make sure only Apple approved apps run on iPhone, which hurts end users.
