After 6 years apart, my mother caught up with me to tell me what she really thinks about me quitting my career and living in a van - watch the video here: www.patreon.com/posts/swapping-career-7999031
It seems for me... what I've been learning... It's important to have a base or bases of operations.. ( such as for winter and summer heat.)a point of origin...a home front.. that you rutinely return to... To maintain friendships and family ties and other necessities...including recouperation time.. I've been greatly inspired to step out side my world a little more often.. I want to thank you for all your experiences and lessons learned. That have enriched so many of us who been a small part of your journeys... I hope you and the lady get back together..
Really enjoyed watching this. You have a lovely family. Your mum is very wise & clearly loves her family. Cherish them all as time passes very quickly. I think of my mum & dad every day & miss them terribly. Take care, all the best.
I love this so much. Your mom is so sweet. I cried at the end when you were saying goodbye. I hope you have many more meals and adventures with your family in the future. 💖💖💖
at the end of the peisode I just start crying. You are AWESOME! and your family is very nice. lots of big hugs for you and Alaska, and I wish you the best of luck!
I have been binge watching kombi life this weekend. Just got to this. Thank you so much for posting this series!! I have needed something like this for so long. I'm so happy you got to see your fanily!
ah i just love your videos and perspective man , i find myself smiling and relating as a fellow nomad , thanks so much for your time and energy you put into these vids. peace and love bro
So far this is your best episode. Loved your mom....Just started watching you vidoes in 2017. Wish I had seen earlier and caught up with you in San Diego.
What a great opportunity to spend some time with your family. Loved the scene where Mom was riding the outside of the van. Kind of made me sad though to know there are people their age who have never gone camping.
I used to fly the Dan Air flights from Gatwick to Jersey. I love the Channel Islands. I may have flown you and your family around!! Yosemite is awesome but pick your days (don't go at the weekend) Beware of rock slides. My wife and I found a great quiet area to have lunch. Right below El Capitan. 1 year to THE DAY a massive rockslide fell exactly where we were eating lunch... Tough saying goodbye to parents when you are on another continent with years between get togethers, same for me now that I live in NZ. P.S. Love that last scene with the Walmart wagon... :-)
Does this mean the engine will finally propel the Bus long into the future without a major breakdown....no!. A new exhaust, magnificent! Your mum looks continually bemused by her son's life, happy but confused! Great episode.
I am so bummed out that I missed you while you were in socal, but most of all while you were at LAX!. I work there. hopefully you will spend more time in California.
Thumbs up, great episode Ben. You have a GREAT family! I thought this episode might be boring but boy was I wrong, real life family bonds will do that. On a side note, I really like the way you've always kept your editing from becoming gimmicky; the fact that I don't even notice your edits, cuts, is testament to that...it's always the story that's most important.
Your family seems really cool! Im not so sure my family is willing to try my lifestyle, and if they did...they would be complaining. You have put out yet another entertaining and delightful to watch video, and I had fun watching!
Another excellent video Ben! Geez, had me tearing up when you had to say goodbye to your Mom. We can now see where you got your great smile. BTW, nice American accent there at the end! :-)
Dude! you're awesome!!!This better than watching any reality TV....I am in Ventura CA..hope to meet you someday..I am Vietnamese and have a family with two kids 3&8..great videos!.I used to travel in the USA alot when I was single, now not much..working all the time..try to buy a dam house...home here is too dam expensive..$600k ave..thank you for sharing..me,can't wait to get a trailer camper with my family, even if one night at the beach. good luck and have a save traveling to you!!!
wow I was surprised to see you actual went over tioga pass and saw mono lake.... I know people in diesel-powered motorhomes who will drive all the way down Highway 395 to the 58 rather than go over that hill or down it........... did you go back up that way too? that high country area around mono is cold at night even in the middle of summer that's why the area is one of my favorite summer destinations. and there are some epic Hot springs nearby
Were is all the footage of Sierra mountains and northern Ca? Humboldt county is incredible and many places to camp. Crater Lake oregon? Mt St Helens, Rainier and all of the Cascades is incredible. Olympic Peninsula was a must see.
Started on S4, rewinded to S2, halfway that rewinded to S1 all the way to the beginning. Ending up here after some serious hours watching this and i LOVE your mom! That patreon video conversation is gold. Keep up this all, i know you reached Alaska, because of the Alaska videos but, what's after that? I guess that answer is given already, i'll have to keep on watching all the episodes to get that answer
Hey Ben! I saw your van in Todos Santos near Cabo and I wasn't sure if it was still yours or not. Did you not give the van away. Anyway we are in Guatemala now and still headed south. Keep up the videos man!!
You say that, "to american viewers LA might now seem like the most interesting of locations," but there is a huge culture difference between the individual regions of the United States. I, having grown up in the Northeast (the state of NH), the West coast is worlds different than the area I grew up in. I say that even after having visited San Diego dozens of times and roadtripped up to San Louis Obispo and visited Monterey on a separate occasion. America is a huge country with lots of different people, attitudes, terrains, vegatation and wildlife to explore. I hope that you get to experience the Midwest and Northeast at some point as well! I am hoping to spend a few months in AZ soon and going forward explore the warmer climates along the West Coast, South West and eventually Latin America during the Northeasts cold seasons. If you ever are in need of a adventure guide for NH, VT, ME and MA feel free to reach out. Much love to you Ben and your travel family. I really admire your ingenuity and dedication to your dream! Safe Travels.
Wonderful videos. On your way back north be sure to check out canon beach in Oregon and Olympic national park in Washington. If you can swing it, mt rainier is also an amazing place to hike. If you want to get off the coast you can detour east of San Francisco and catch lassen volcanic park and crater lake too. There is lots of free camping in the wilderness areas. Hit me up and I can point you in some directions as I just did a van road trip with my family in the north west this past summer. I live in Las Vegas. Maybe we can hook up on your way back north and I'll buy you a beer. Get out of California as fast as you can and the scenery only gets better.
It's a common saying, at least in California... to say "I need a vacation from my vacation". Meaning that because I had to go, go, go to see the things I wanted to see and do during those two weeks of vacation, I am now more tired than ever after returning from my vacation.
What did you do with Alaska while eating and gambling? I plan on traveling with 2 very large dogs, I'll have solar and fans set up but looking for any other solutions as well.
