The RGB30 is a premium handheld, in a sense that it provides a great experience on a few select systems/games. If you want just to have a single handheld, buy one with a 4:3 screen.
I saw a comparison of this screen and the RP2s and it's almost the same width so it's just allowing extra height to be played with when playing certain consoles on it. Finding that out made me like the idea of this square screen more. a square screen on the likes of the ultra mini handhelds like the funkeyS, it's not that great imo.
The idea is not bad but I definitely wouldn't buy new handheld only coz of the square screen. But as I always say- to have a choice is always a good thing
Not everyone understands that with this device, the playable area for 4:3 systems is just as big as on devices with 3.5 inch screens and 4:3 aspect ratio. So this isn't really a specialist device for GB and GBC. It handles everything up to PS1 extremely well.
Im buying this to replace my playstation classic I played with a usb controller. It was a joy just to have a hassle free HDMI output PS1 to play Gran Turismo 1&2. The RGB30 does this too, but mini HDMI and Bluetooth controller. I cant wait.
@Zealous Chuck I understand where you're coming from. What drew me to the RGB30 is the ability to play vertical arcade games on a bigger 720x720 resolution screen. I'm old and I used to play Space Invaders, Galaga, Dig-Dug, Phoenix, and dozens more in the arcades. I also love the later vertical shooters like DoDonPachi and its bullet hell brethren. These vertical aspect ratio shooters look great on this screen and the processor is plenty powerful to play them. That was what drove me to get my RGB30. Also, I like playing the NES and SNES at an 8:7 aspect ratio and they look marvelous on this screen like that. This screen is not good for the PSP's 16:9 aspect ratio. That doesn't matter to me. I have a few PSPs and they play my games perfectly. The bottom line is that each person should choose what suits their needs. I simply wanted to highlight how well this form factor handles vertical arcade games since you hadn't mentioned that in your video. Thanks for investing your time to share your content. Keep up the good work!
A dedicated device for Gameboy, GBA, Neo Geo pocket (and color), game gear & pico 8 with an amazing aspect ratio and coming in at $90?! Sounds like a good deal to me.
This is a bad review. All you talk about is screen size and ratio. But you forgot resolution, 720p screen while others are 480p, which makes for bigger Integer Scaled games, for pixel perfect enthusiasts, which, most true retro gamers LOVE, and amateurs, like yourself, neglect. "Peace out"

For me this is perfect. I have other handhelds like the Vita or PSP gor 16:9

This clearly holds true also exactly the opposite way. That playable area on 4:3 for 1:1 is quite large
It was made for vertical shootem ups, it is a pleasure to use it that way
Personally I'd prefer a 3:2 or 5:3 Screen way less compromise between 4:3 and 16:9 content.
We ll see what they gonna come up next. I mostly care about the quality of the screen and chip. The rest is negotiable
This handheld can play everything! Its great because you can adjust the aspect ratios
