    I work with gas in the US. I like seeing how other countries do the same job as I do, it’s interesting.

    where gas smart meter gets its power from?

    • @AutoUnder
      @AutoUnder 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just looked online as I was wondering the same, turns out they're battery powered but the battery lasts around 10 years

    Haha, health and safety person will love this. Good old purge through meter, forgot to turn the power off to the boiler too 😄

    • @memyselfandi36
      @memyselfandi36 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't matter if power ain't off at boiler as long as the heating ain't on..as it's in standby waiting for further instructions really. Yes if heatings on then turn boiler off

      @@memyselfandi36 ideally you don’t want boiler to run while replacing meter so good practice to isolate power. Can see that while the engineer in this video is doing final tightness test, that the boiler has been run (making him have to go and investigate and redo his tightness test).

    Very interesting 🤔 I like these sort of videos it's not something you see everyday

    Hi there. I had a question….. since the government is banning gas from 2025, dont you think gas engineers will be out of jobs? Or will they be installing hobs only. Im asking because I’m interested in doing a gas course but I’m worried that I won’t be having a job in a few years and my course will go to waste.

      Did you find an answer ?
      It may switch to hydrogen etc

    • @MetTurtle818
      @MetTurtle818 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The government aren't banning gas in 2025, they are preventing new boiler installations in new build homes from 2025. For many, many years to come, people will replace existing boilers and continue to upgrade existing systems. The likely evolution is hydrogen, so I think the industry will be sound for a long time, but the ability to evolve will be needed. Best of luck

    Is a meter bar required for all new gas connections? asit is missing here.

    • @memyselfandi36
      @memyselfandi36 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not necessary but you would need to do some kind of tightness test ie a squirty bottle with washing up liquid in squirted onto nuts ..if it don't bubble then it's fine

    Where does the Smart Gas Meter get the power to run the meter electronics? Does it have a battery that has to be replaced on a regular basis or does it have a mains connection or a fuel cell operating off the gas supply?

      The smart meter itself has a lithium battery in it with the average life of 10 years.
      The In Home Display (which many people mistakenly call a smart meter), depends on manufacturer and model. Some have cable only so have battery and cable

      Cos the ones already on should be fine unless damaged but hard to see why they would've damaged...a 20yr old gas meters seals should still be fine...its gas going through not water and its air tight

    Why aren't the new meters the same size and fit as the old ones, so that there's no need for a new bracket? Is it to create extra (unnecessary) paid work for the fitters?

    • @stevofinlayson1979

      The meter should be supported from the top with a bracket rather than just sitting on one

      It takes a smart meter roughly 30 years to omit the same amount of RF output that takes a standard mobile phone 3 mins…. I would be more worried about your two year old phone or better yet your microwave than a smart meter…. Keep spreading misinformation though don’t worry about the objective facts 😂

  • @julienlefevre1812

    Let by test 7-10mb not 9-13mb (2min)
    Stabilisation (19-21mb-1min)
    Tightnesses test ( 19-21mb -1min)
    You need to purge the system at the cooker before recording standing pressure . 20-23mb usually
    Then do your working pressure ( 3 rings at cooker )
    The anaconda is kinked a bit so really be sure you don’t get a sharp bend.

    • @thewolf459
      @thewolf459 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sorry but you’re incorrect in what you’re saying also. Stabilisation and tightness testing is (not between 19 & 21mb), and standing pressure isn’t no greater than 23mb (that’s working pressure).
      - Tightness test pressure is between 20 and 21 mbar.
      - 1 minute pressure and temperature stabilisation (may require longer for a stable reading to be achieved).
      - 2 minute tightness test (where necessary adjust pressure to between 20 and 21 mbar before commencing test).
      Those are the correct procedures and pressure for a Tightness Test & Stabilisation Test.

      Probably a battery failure, if you have buttons a and b on the gas meter and it doesn’t respond when you press them contact your supplier

    Can anyone offer me a one-on-one training about installing meters? Found the physical installation part easy enough but things like the basic safety requirement and precautions, what could go wrong in an installation, tools required and the basic concepts behind what he's testing and reading (and the tool he's using to take the reading) before he uninstalled the old one is what I'm interested in. Thank you

    How do smart meters save you money. The only way i know is not to use the Gas or Electricity. I can do that without a smart meter.

    • @thewolf459
      @thewolf459 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheapest tariffs are now all sms tariffs (that’s one way).
      Dual Fuel smart tariffs usually save another 6%
      Being able to monitor your usage easier allows customers to make informed decisions where possible

    • @davidking2528
      @davidking2528 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Cameron Reason That’s perfectly inline with gas regs. One side rigid one side flexi. You are only allowed one flexible connection on new installs. Why make life difficult by having a double rigid connection when the meter is well supported with a bracket and up to current regs.
