I decided 18 months ago after first watching your videos, and Robert Lustig and decided to save my life. I was 500Lb and in poor health. I dropped carbohydrates (bread , wheat , pasta , rice , sugar etc) and embarked on an intermittent fasting and keto lifestyle. I also do an extended 7 day fast every 60 days. Currently I’ve lost 230 Lb, no longer on blood pressure medication, no longer have sleep apnea , no longer have insulin resistance (fasting blood sugars between 80-90) and have no more attacks of gout . I only eat once a day , am fat adapted and have not experienced hunger or cravings . I owe my life to you Dr. Fung and only wish this could be taught in the mainstream as I believe the food industry and the pharmaceutical industry is profiting by killing us .
Oh Wow!! You rock 👏! Congratulations to your transformation and new health! You are an inspiration to us all to see what power we have to return to good health! Kudos to you!! 👏🙏
Yep my wife and I get fed up telling people we are not dieting but having a healthy eating style most don’t get it. Definitely not crazy but both feeling great and losing weight 👌😎
This js why I've not told a single soul for the past 8 months that I've been fasting. I've dropped 15kgs. The few times that people talked about IF was negatively so I'm just keeping this to myself and focusing on my health
I started a 72-hour fast this week, however I am now at 94 hours and still not hungry so have decided to extend it to a five-day fast. The first 2 days were the hardest and then by the end of the third day when I was due to eat I just wasn't hungry. I woke up this morning (fourth day) and felt fantastic so I might as well do 5-days now!
🎉 Well done!!! 😂 That’s funny! I just finished a 72 hour/3 day fast and I felt the same way at the end! I only meant to do a 24hour fast but found I could go for longer. I did my usual activities, worked out on the first two days and just walked most of the day on day three… was even at Food Festival with my family. I actually felt so good and didn’t cravings. I should say, I don’t consume much sugar and carbs and two days prior to fasting I made sure my diet was very clean. It’s refined sugar and simple carbs that make us feel hungry. I will try for 5 days next month!
Did you take any salt or mineral supplements durring the long fast? Also how and with what did you start the refeeding? I'm new to all of this and want to give it a go. Thanks
I started IF almost exactly 1 year ago after watching several of Jason's videos. I was 71 years old, 5'7", borderline diabetic, had high blood pressure, had constant stomach problems, was tired all the time, and my weight was 254 pounds. For the past year I have been on a 19 - 5 IF plan with a few days of OMD a couple of times a month. My weight this morning - 184. During my physical at the VA in Oct my doctor was completely shocked at my appearance. At that time I'd lost 60 pounds. My blood pressure was 127/79. My blood sugar was 5.5 and I've had ZERO stomach problems in the past 9 months. I eat my first meal at noon and second around 5pm. For the first 8 months I was 100% keto. About 4 months ago I started adding a few carbohydrates a few times week like potatoes or glass of wine with dinner, and I'm still losing weight. I have energy all of the time and I feel great. Thank you doctor Fung. My life is fun and enjoyable again.
I'm on day 12 but for health reasons. I want to eliminate inflamation. OsteoArthritis stage 4 hip replacements indicated. Dreadful pain. The pains reduced 60% & I intend to do 21 days. It's important not to tell people.
This brilliant practitioner started saving his patients and now is revealing to countless thousands of people all around the world various ways they can regain wellness.
Imagine thinking it's crazy to give your stomach a day off for a day or 2. Stomach is being treated like damn overworked Slave! Give it a day off weekly (at least)
Dr. Fung, you are providing a tremendous public service. Thank you! At 73, I've been using IF for about 3 years for general health benefits, not weight loss. My longest fast was just under 72 hours. It was surprising how easy longer-term fasting is once you get over the 24-36 hour hump.
@@KD-zs8lj it actually gets easier as the days go by, especially after the 3rd day. I would suggest some light exercise every day like walks or bike rides, it really boosts the effects of fasting. Good luck and health to you!
In my experience, long term fasting is easier than it sounds. My record was 7 days. I felt fine without eating for a week. I currently like to do 3 day fasts fairly regularly when I'm feeling sluggish. It increases my physical energy level, improves my mood and sharpens my concentration. Dr. Fung knows his stuff.
@@AndrewEvenstar Not much. On a scale of couch potato to serial marathoner, about an average suburbanite. Just a fair amount of walking and lifting/carrying stuff at work. I work about 11 hours per day, 6 days per week. Just steady effort.
@@75blackviking ok thanks for the info! I'm just starting out and curious about people's training performance during days they are fasting! I'm so excited in trying this new way of living , trying to read all the feedback I can!
Thanks Jason, I was diagnosed type 2 diabetes October 27, 2021. My blood sugar was past 38, which is as high as the reader went. Dr in ER said to watch you. 4 months later I've lost over 80 lbs and am now off metformin, hugg blood pressure pills and my hyperthyroidism is going back to normal. Thanks for sharing and letting people know we can beat this! All glory to God amen!!

Thank you very much Dr Fung . I have lost 13,2 lbs in 5 weeks with intermittent fasting, I want to go for 3 days and beyond . You are such a blessing . God bless you 🙏
I'm so happy and proud to have Dr. Fung as "MY" primary doctor for my weight loss journey. I'm 58 and I've lost over 150lbs. since November of 2020. This video is perfect timing as now I'm learning how to fast to maintain and I hope I'm as successful as she has been. Intermittent fasting is just so different. You can't just decide not to be hungry. You have to actually not be hungry! And once you're fat adapted, this magic happens. I'm loving my new life. Many thanks 😊🙏
I'm on an 8/16 eating schedule right now. I've never had a weight problem... I decided to do this strictly for health reasons. And man... I feel great!! Thanks Doc!! 👍🏾🇺🇸
It works. I did an 8 day fast. I lost 8lbs of fat and increased 3lbs of lean mass. I only stopped because I got tired of not eating. I wasn't hungry. Just bored. It was a mental game.
I'm currently on da7 17 of a 31 day fast, I've done 29 before and it's always been a great benefit health wise. Get past the 1st 3 days and it works wonders.
Hey Jason, I am doing 5 day fasts every week right now I have been fasting for 19 months now & have lost 105lbs now I'm not losing anymore weight now as I think I've reached my set point so now it's all about the health benefits now. You are awesome 👌
I have lost 60 pounds so far and just wanted to say to you, good job. I wonder if it's hard to maintain the lower weight once we get to a steady weight.
I started watching your videos 2 months ago. I was a bit skeptical at first but I gave some of your advice a try. I knew I couldn't go all in because I would fail. So I gave up snacks in between meals for 2 weeks and stopped eating after 8p.m. and before 8a.m. I noticed I wasn't always hungry when I woke up so the next 2 weeks I skipped breakfast and had coffee with a small amount of creamer. That was the first month. For the second month, the first 2 weeks I did the same. Now I'm on the last 2 weeks of this month on one meal a day. I am down 18lbs in 2 months from 387 and have a lot more energy! What amazed me the most was when my neighbor came over and noticed my neck was not as dark as it used to be. I hadn't noticed but that was something that I had wanted to monitor but kept on forgetting. For years I kept scrubbing it thinking it was dirty but all this time it had to do with my health. I knew If I went all in I would have failed but for me I had to go this approach or I would have failed. I'm working my way towards a water fast which I hope to start the 4th month. Thank you for all your content! I constantly share your videos and Hope to share progress on You Tube soon. Not much of a YTuber but feel it's important to share for others. Thank you!
I just finished a 72 hr water fast this once a month feels so good ,5 oz of lean chicken no salt just pepper did not make me hunger .next day elongating this til noon the next day ,I’m all set for the month, thanks to you Jason for a individual appreciation of fasting .
From your reading and research, do you feel that it's okay for me to do 72 hour water-only fasts twice a month since I have never had any adverse events doing 48 hours twice a month? Or, am I naive about consequences?
Started a 7 day water Fast yesterday. I always watch videos of Dr. Jason Fung, Dr. Eric Berg, Dr. Mindy Pelz, and Thomas DeLauer when I do these longer fasts. I did a 7 day fast last year in August. I want to do at least two this year. My body is so used to a 24 hour fast eating OMAD that I have got to switch it up. That's hard for me because I get in a routine and I don't like change. I don't get hungry at all doing a OMAD. After this 7 days, I'm going to eat 3 days a week doing the OMAD every other day. Fasting heals the body and detoxes from all the garbage in this world a lot of which we can't avoid. So thankful for these natural doctors that aren't bought and paid for by pharmaceutical companies. I want ALL natural.
My biggest problem is my family saying I’m having eating disorders 😅lol . I’m having to fast quietly and disguising. I feel no hunger at all. Lots of energy and focus. Actually I’d rather not eat at all than 16/8. 12 cm menopausal belly fat gone in one month so far
I finished my first 6 day fast last night. Day 3/4 was a bit sticky, other than that you get into a good rhythm. Trained 3 hard sessions in gym which will help with focus. Total weight loss 3.7 kg . I found re-feeding a little bit difficult, but 16 hours later all is good 👍..I'm a 59 Yr old type 2..although I do regular 20/4 fastening, extending the fast takes it to another level.. mentally it takes you on a journey it's you against your self...And I WON !! Feel fantastic in body and mind ..peace and love from the UK
I think that I am going to do a 48 hour fast, starting after my last meal this afternoon.... I did a 50 hour fast a couple months ago and it was AWESOME!!
Dr fung has really saved my life with his education on TH-cam. I'm off metformin and lost more than 35 lbs and counting. I do the 48 hour fast then the next week I do the 5 day fast
Terrific video and I watched at the right time! I am getting close to my goal. 22 lbs to go! Started keto and IF and extended fasting March 7, 2021 I have lost 108 lbs and I am confident with my extended fasts included in my routine I will be able to keep it off. Thank you Dr Fung! 😀
I had FBS : 120 and PPBS 140 and started looking Dr FUng videos and immediately removed carbohydrates (Mainly Rice ) from diet. Started steam cooked vegetables and fruits with Intermittent fasting mostly 16 : 8 . I was a big Cereal and Rice eater. Within 15 days of stopping carbohydrates altogether , my readings came down drastically. Now FBS is 85 and PPBS is 102. Before this diet change My H1BAC was 8.2 and let see after 3 months how this marker will shape up.
The longest I’ve done is 72hrs (3 days) and the results only are incredible! Amazing for the gut and great just to reset if you had a weekend of special occasions
I always find that the first 2 days are the hardest for me; after that my hunger subsides and my energy increases. Because of this I have decided to fast for 7-10 days every 3 months instead of doing an extended fast every week. I did try weekly extended fasting for a while, but I was going through the miserable part over and over, and barely staying in the easy part. So far, this is working well for me: down 30 pounds and reversed my T2D entirely after 25 years. Giving up processed foods was a huge part of my progress. I'm shocked at how badly my body reacts now to foods that I used to constantly eat.
Dr Fung kind of leaves the timing of prolonged fasting wide open-so I found folklore that fasts work better if timed with the start of a full moon. I practice IF most of the month and just once a month attempt a 7 day extended fast because I agree with you-easier to face the “fasting hump “ once a month rather than every week. Why suffer more? Timing with the full moon also gives me a monthly goal and I can mentally prepare myself for this extended fasting “jump.” More power to you.
@Jason, your personality is so contagious and your videos are easy to understand by those in non-medical field. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and knowledge in a very meaningful way.
I started monk fasting once a week, on all other days I eat 11-7pm. I’m not overweight and I never have been but it makes me feel great and I want the long term benefits of fasting.
Dr Fung. My GP recommend your channel to support my IF progress. I’m a 40 yo nursing Mum and I’ve already lost 2.5kg in 3 weeks thanks to following you IF advice, loads of green tea and daily exercise. I thought it would be impossible because of my age, nursing and being a busy mum, but if I can do it, anyone can. I can’t thank your channel enough
Thank you for this information, Dr. Fung. I'm one of those people who does a lot better, both mentally and physically, on extended fasts. However, there's scarce info about conducting 4+ day fasts, so I've been diving into a 7-day fast once per month for the last few months, and it's been a terrific experience each time. I'm 44 years old, weigh about 66kg, lift weights 4x per week and walk 5+ kilometres daily. I'm hoping to get under 60kg by Christmas '22 -- my body's set point is very stubborn -- and intermittent/extended fasting has been a wonderful tool to help me reach my goals.
For weight loss it's better to keep fasts from 36-96 h. Very long fasts will slow metabolism just like dieting. Some weight lifting and more protein will help increase metabolism over time.
@@AzaleaBee I broke my fast at 92th hour because I don't want to eat too late. It was amazing, I lost 5.5 lbs during the 4 days fasting. On third day I didn't feel as hungry, I felt very energetic. On fourth day I actually had a bit of migraine and discomfort, probably because lack of electrolytes.
@@kentho7093 Good for you! The migraine could have been electrolytes as you said... or perhaps not being used to such long fasts. I'm sure you have enough body fat or you wouldn't have attempted 4 days.. but that can be a factor.
Deciding or planning what I'm going to do regarding fasting or time restricted eating ahead of time, and then staying busy have been the most helpful tips for me. I also try to watch one of Dr. Fung's videos each day for keeping me on track. Thanks Jason❣You've changed my life!!
Thank you for this video. I was beginning to get the idea, from what others were saying, that you don't support extended fasts. This is wonderfully clarifying.
Dr. Fung, I am on my 2nd extended fast. 1st one was 3 days in Feb. This time I’m going for 14dys fast, 3 day eat. Then I am going to a 3 day fast, 2 day eat. I am on day 8, not hungry but I have had bone broth x2. I am in moderate ketosis. But after watching this I will stick to water and herbal green teas. Thank you so much. I am 57yrs old have about 80lbs to lose.
If you are measuring via pee sticks, be careful. That only measures the excess ketones being spilled.your body should be using all of the ketones! You should be spilling excess into your urine
Hi Dr. Fung- I did three 10 day extended fasts Jan, Feb and March. Got good results lost 10-16 pounds per fast but half of the weight came back once I refeed. Now I’m trying ADF so far this is much more mentally tolerable. Thank you always. I love your content.
May I suggest you only fast that length of time once a quarter so your body doesn’t slow your metabolism? In between you can eat keto (that’s how I kept it off) and use time restricted eating once fully fat adapted.
By the way, much fasting weight loss is water so don’t panic when some of the water comes back. Your body needs the water when it restores your glycogen. If you eat keto this will be minimized.
You're the best! My siblings and I are reading the second of your books on fasting in our family book club. Thank you for sharing this great information.
I am sharing my experience of extended fasting. Last year I did 2 extended fasts. One for 3 days, the other for 7 days. The 3 day fast was a walk in the park. It was so easy. Well, the 7 day fast was not so easy. I found my energy level dropping during my 5 mile walk starting on day 5. I was also obsessed about food. I would spend hours shopping for food on Amazon. However, I would say that the fasts did not cause any harm, and they were probably very good for me. So, will I do it again? Yes. I will do another 7 day fast this year. Given the experience I gained last year, it should not be too difficult.
If you watch Dr. Pradip Jaramanas , a cardiologist, on The Galen Foundation, he gives a great discussion on the benefits of 7 day fasting. It blew me away when he cited a study that found that 73% of folks who do just one 7 day fast- they never get cancer, for life! Congratulations on doing 7 day fasts- I’ve been able to do 74 hours so far, but I haven’t been able to do a 7 day fast yet!!
@@elizabethy2912 My experience indicated that for me, a 5 day fast would probably not be too hard. Most of my challenges started after 5 days. I am redoing 7 days because as far as I know 7 days is the longest you should fast without medical supervision.
I’m doing rolling 72s losing 2 to 3 pounds every reedfeed eat until I’m uncomfortably full and still lose weight feels like magic if you have the discipline to fast lost 34 pounds in 30 days

Yeah, OMAD is easy. Just distract yourself for 30 minutes or so when the hungry arises, and will will be well. I am eating 2 meals a day only because I am building muscles and I want to spread out my protein intake.
When you cross the barrier of about two or three days you’ll feel amazing, like more energy than when you are eating. If you do strenuous exercise you’ll feel the energy fade quickly though.
@@CarbageMan I usually fast from 5pm Sunday until 10 or 11am on Tuesday. This week I'm going to go for as long as I can before breaking the fast. I do workout every day, I'll take it a bit easy on Tuesday. Thanks for the tip!
@@sanautin Sounds good if you can keep your mind off eating while you're at work. When I'm at my desk, I can only hold out until around 11am unless I've been fasted already. Thus, if I want to do an extended fast, I start on Friday night and try to go through the second Sunday. As for workouts, most of them aren't a problem if you're already fat adapted. The problem comes if you're a carb burner or if you completely destroy all the glycogen in your muscles (kinda hard to do if you're fat adapted, but if you do zone 2 cardio for a long time, it can happen), because gluconeogenesis feeds them slowly.
@@CarbageMan My worse time when fasting is in the mid afternoons, from 2 to 5pm. That's usually when work slows down and I get bored. Not hungry....just bored.

Dr. FUNG, could you do a video about cortisol and stress and their relations with obesity, belly fat, increased waist, etc? My sister has a demanding profession, bad character/mood, bad food habits, I'm very concerned about her health, and not making fun of this, she looks like a "stick through an olive". Thanks a lot!
cortisol and insulin are not meant to be in the body at the same time. When they are it burns lean tissue and causes cellulite and many other problems.
Extended Fasting..I 👍. Another amazing video....fasting is just part of my life for ever...I learned all of it cause of your videos. Gracias for all you do!!!
I’m 41 yo F 5’5” and have gained and lost several times since graduating high school. As high as 205 and as low as 132. I always lost by calorie control and exercise, and always could only keep up the will power for so long before I just was exhausted and gave in to all the sugary, baked, fried goods and ate till my tummy ached. I’m doing IF, basically omad and occasionally every other day. Haven’t changed my diet (still eating a combo of junk food and healthy choices and eating too much… hey, I can only do so much at a time!) and just with fasting I’m losing about 2# per week. From 205 to 196 isn’t bad.
Coincidentally, I’m at about 36 hours right now. I like to do 24 to 72 on weekends and do resistance training during the week. 👍 Weekends work well for me because I can take long walks and relax. Work seems to drive up my cortisol.
I have my last meal on Fridays at 6am, then fast until Mondays and eat at 6am. This works pretty well. One meal a day, about 1500-1600 calories, and less than 20 carbs a day. The rest of the time it's water, black coffee or tea of some kind. No processed food, no oils, no additives, just home-cooked food, with zero rubbish in the diet. It's worked so well I have a cardiac team & diabetes specialist consultancy studying me for mimicking my results for the NHS Trust where I was a patient.
@@lumpy3408 That's interesting, thanks. I decided to do two meals a day (on the usual eating day-it's slightly more complicated) because I wanted to get more protein. I apparently robbed myself of protein when I initially began fasting and doing keto, because I was given advice to keep the protein (too) low (in my opinion.) I ended up with a hip problem that I repaired with platelet rich plasma, physical therapy, and a higher-protein diet. So I try to get over 50g of protein at least twice a day on eating days. The day after weight training, I try to get three such meals. I may back off of that a bit, but I needed a reboot for my hip and overall muscle mass. Perhaps if I'd been doing weight training when I began fasting and keto, I would have preserved more lean mass.
@@CarbageMan I can help you a little there. I've had many injuries, the last of which was a broken shoulder, and walked 9 miles to the hospital to get treatment for the shoulder while having a heart event! I left the hospital after 4 days without a stent, surgery, or heart damage, and it freaked out all the surgical staff and cardiologists! That's how tough I am, as old boots as they used to say. Don't laugh, but they were so in shock with how I handled the cardiac event, they didn't even notice my broken shoulder! What you should do is two approaches. One low impact exercise to keep blood sugars low, and the other being load being, which will strengthen your back, torso. Get a backpack, with hip support and put a large bag of cat litter in it and walk say 10,000 steps a day with it (Say 5 miles). The other exercise to do is HiiT from a professional point of view. That won't spike your insulin either and is the type used by sports professionals. Have a browse on the internet and you'll soon find the science behind it. If you are near Hertfordshire you can join me and you can suffer with me on my rehab regime! I'm carrying a hip injury as well, so mimic what I do and you should be fine. Fast & train first, wait an hour, and then eat afterward for the best results.
I fasted 11 days after a traumatic loss. I gained it all back easily though. It would be great to see info on how to refeed properly so as to prevent refeed syndrome or weight regain
Watching this for motivation… I’m at 48hrs, I would like to reach 72 or more. I am doing fine right now and hope a full day of work will help me stay distracted tomorrow. I have never gotten beyond day 3 but if my body cooperates I would like to try…
I OMAD daily, and only occasionally have I dabbled over the 24 hour mark. 5 days is my max to date. After day 2, it does get much easier, just take electrolytes and keep water intake high. In many ways extended fasts are a huge catharsis. My only deviation from Fung and company is I refuse to buy into keto/low carb. I just can't do it. If some people can, more power to them, but I have no desire. I like my pizza and beer. Furthermore, I have been in maintenance almost 2 years now, and all my clinical markers are within the normal range, so I have just about zero motivation to make myself miserable with an extremely limited diet.
Cool Because, too, afterwards, when you eat food it's super great (to eat) It feels good to go without eating for awhile. Feel STRONG. And body going lean and agile.
I do at least one 24h+ fast per week, going for 48h is also not uncommon. My biggest advice to someone intimidated to try is to stop fearing hunger. We treat being hungry as the worst state to be in that needs to be fixed immediately. But is it? What bad thing is going to happen if you go to sleep hungry for a change? It will be uncomfortable, as you are not used to it, but set your mind learning to embrace being a little hungry sometimes and continuing with life regardless.
Do you do it on your own? Or the support of doctors? I'm trying for a 21 day fast, and just curious how much medical support long term fasters usually get.
Hi Dr. Fung, I was 75 kg, with a height of 174 cm. My fasting blood sugar was fine and it hovered around 5.5. My daily calorie intake has been 2000 to 2300 with low-carb and high-protein foods. Recently, I came across some websites promoting the benefits of IF. Hence, I thought it was good to try out. Since 3 months ago, I have been fasting till 2 p.m. and, at times, 4 p.m. I have taken some days off as well. My weight has come down to 70 kg. My blood pressure has been better too. Unfortunately, my fasting blood sugar has gone up to around 5.8 to 5.9, which I thought was still alright. Ironically, during the last few days, I took my blood sugar readings thrice. As usual, I did it in the morning, at around 9 a.m. I had readings of 6.7 and 6.6 twice. On those two occasions, I had a glass of unsweetened hot chocolate and two slices of bread with cheese and peanut butter the night before I went to bed at around 1 am. Anyway, it has been my bad habit to eat some light meals before bed. I am concerned that I might have "LAMP2- or BECN1-deficient" condition as described in the following article I have found in the National Library of Medicine. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5788488/ Key excerpt: In LAMP2-deficient mice, a model of lysosomal insufficiency, the benefits of IF on glucose metabolism are lost, and IF paradoxically promotes increased beta cell apoptosis and exacerbates autophagic impairment. IF also provokes impaired glucose tolerance in Becn1 (Beclin 1, autophagy related) haplo-insufficient mice, indicating an important mechanistic role for autophagy and lysosomal function. Interestingly, IF also stimulated nuclear expression of the transcription factor NEUROG3, a marker of beta cell regeneration, in wild-type but not in LAMP2- or BECN1-deficient mice. Kindly advise me. Thank you.
Best way to loose weight and get healthy. I'm new to I/F and needed to loose 26 lbs and lost 28 lbs in less than 50 days on a 18-6 fasting plan. But it does take willpower to be successful and what you eat is key to succeeding. It was hard the first 2, 3 weeks but got much easier as time went on. I'm on a mostly veggie eating plan with some chicken and eggs. I don't eat red meat, bread, pasta sugars, colored drinks or processed foods. I stay as organic as I can. Mostly low carb, zero sugar. But I do occasionally cheat on keto pizza, and sugar free chocolate.
Good for you finding how healthy fasting is. Fasting has been the answer for me for both weight loss (body fat loss) and chronic pain management. Eliminating highly processed foods certainly is key!!! I do disagree with you about "willpower", though. Willpower without the information and personal experience is not enough. I would call it experienced discipline.

Hardest part of prolonged fasting is convincing your uninformed family and friends that you're not crazy 😅😅
Yep my wife and I get fed up telling people we are not dieting but having a healthy eating style most don’t get it. Definitely not crazy but both feeling great and losing weight 👌😎
Literally why I don’t tell many people im fasting haha
This js why I've not told a single soul for the past 8 months that I've been fasting. I've dropped 15kgs. The few times that people talked about IF was negatively so I'm just keeping this to myself and focusing on my health
This weekend my first fast.
Yesssss omG my wife thinks You'll be harmed

I did a 4 day 17hr fast but had to do some serious physical manual labor and the cravings kicked in.
Wow! How commendable!
I'm on day 12 but for health reasons. I want to eliminate inflamation. OsteoArthritis stage 4 hip replacements indicated. Dreadful pain. The pains reduced 60% & I intend to do 21 days. It's important not to tell people.

In my experience, long term fasting is easier than it sounds. My record was 7 days. I felt fine without eating for a week. It works. I did an 8 day fast. I lost 8lbs of fat and increased 3lbs of lean mass. I only stopped because I got tired of not eating. I wasn't hungry. Just bored. It was a mental game.
The mental part is the most important and the hardest part to master when it comes to fasting.
Were you lifting heavy?
How could you tell how much lean mass you gained?
I'm on day 4 of an extended fast. I've got about 85-90 lbs to lose, and I'm not setting a limit on my fast, I'm going to see how far I can go.

One of my tools: Sunday morning video with Dr. Fung. Every video is helpful.
First attempt on 4-days fasting, currently at 48 hours, almost break my fast today but I am glad I can fight off the crave.
You probably finished your four days about now. How did it go?

Hi Dr Jason. I do intermittent fasting every day and I eat just one meal a day : 23: 1
You're the best!

I apparently robbed myself of protein when I initially began fasting and doing keto, because I was given advice to keep the protein (too) low (in my opinion.)
I ended up with a hip problem that I repaired with platelet rich plasma, physical therapy, and a higher-protein diet.
Wanderful Dr. FUNG! You are saving thousands of lives!
All thanks goes to you doctor
Fabulous video on extended fasting Dr Fung! Thank you and keep them coming please.
Cool
Because, too, afterwards, when you eat food it's super great (to eat)
It feels good to go without eating for awhile.
Feel STRONG.
And body going lean and agile.
Thank you so much Dr. Fung thank you thank you thank you
Such great information as always!
Excellent information. Thank you!
thanks doc, 24 hrs into my fast and i want to go 72hrs, so i needed to hear that.
Thank you Dr. Fung 🙌 as always‼️Stay safe & well❣️
great, talk about benefit of 72h fasting
Im on day 32 of 40. I want/need to go longer but my wife is already scared Im doing damage to myself. I know Im fine.
So far, I have done 40 days, 3 times.
I am now doing it again, and I am on day 17.
I am concerned that I might have "LAMP2- or BECN1-deficient" condition as described in the following article I have found in the National Library of Medicine.
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5788488/
Key excerpt:
In LAMP2-deficient mice, a model of lysosomal insufficiency, the benefits of IF on glucose metabolism are lost, and IF paradoxically promotes increased beta cell apoptosis and exacerbates autophagic impairment.
Thank you.
When fasting, glucose comes from your own body storage supply.
I lost 8 pounds within one month thank you so much all your video love it 🥰 god bless you 🙏😊
I really enjoy this so much fasting 😌thanx Dr
@7:18, Yes! And thank you.
@@AzaleaBee Nobody cares that YOU disagree. You’re nobody special lol!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge
Good day Dr.jason
Jason is a great doctor! Down to earth with great advice
For me keto lost weight slow but when intermittent fasting it kicked it into overdrive.
7 months 75 pounds. Hit my goal.
16 to 24 hr fasts daily
I’ve been on daily 23 hour fasts and keto for 18 months and have lost 230 Lb and never felt better
I fasted and always gained it back until I discovered keto, and was able to keep it off.
Keto diets don't last, our body doesn't want to be in ketosis very long!
@@jgrysiak6566 you should have told me that four years ago when I started keto and haven’t stopped since. 🤔
Going on another 35 plus hour fast and watching another japan fun to keep me going 🙏🏽💪🏼
I finally found the video that had the answer tonextended fasting as a type 2 diabetic.
Another great vid ... Thanks mate.🤓🇦🇺
Up early today thanks for video
