When we go on vacation, I know there are going to be some extra indulgences so my husband and I always make sure we walk "a lot". We do at least 15,000 steps per day and eat only two meals. Many times we both end up losing weight instead of gaining when we return home. I highly recommend it!

@@lifesart1. everyone is always in a fasting/feasting mode but may not realize it...when you are sleeping you aren't eating...which is fasting. When you are in your eating window of time then feasting. The key is to shorten the feasting time down to a minuscule amount so your body can do it's part by repairing itself during fasting time.
I usually eat just one meal in the middle of the day. I get everything ready before my first bite so my eating window is short. Then go right back into fasting after my last bite. Every bite is planned and no snacking at all during other times of the day. Every once in a while I get hungry for something with the rest of my family later. Sometimes I push through and continue fasting and other times I enjoy whichever it is. I am not starving, there's always food available, I just know now that the body needs to have a break from eating/calorie intake so it can repair itself and burn off excess weight.
I will continue this way of eating forever. During the holidays I already have some keto recipes saved which will help stay on goals. Remember, life happens, I'm not strict 24/7 sometimes I cheat something here and there, but personally it keeps my mental health happy knowing I can if I want but it feels so much better to be healthy and eat healthy. As far as food goes, I make everything homemade and if God made it we eat it and if He didn't we don't eat it. Also for some favorite foods which aren't necessarily "good for you" I look for recipes made into keto from pinterest.

@@janellewright8199 fasting always helps in losing weight. As far as your shifts go you could utilize that time as your fasting since your body is busy working anyway. I used to work a night shift and used my "lunch" hour as a brief nap no eating my entire shift. I have found fasting working no matter what times you choose. You do you and modify what works best for you.
👉 I'm not a doctor, so if you feel you would be putting your health at risk, find a doctor who supports a fasting, naturapathic lifestyle. 😃Just start, it works. Down about 60 now. Next year I'm focusing on targeting exercises to tone up. I am feeling pretty though which was one of my goals was to be happy with myself.

I am so in fear of being insulin resistant that I was able to avoid over eating. I still need to lose a lot of weight but I know that I will get there. Same. 5 day fasts for me require too much attention and working around family and friends. A few scheduled 36 fasts each week are easily doable and flexible around family plans. Eating, not eating. It's simple.
The results of both 5 day and a few 36 hour fasts for me (lower blood glucose, reduced chronic pain, weight loss, food control) seem to be about the same. Even loose skin disappears about the same.
But because I want to be sure to get the full benefits of autophagy etc, I plan to do one or two 5 day fasts per year as long as my blood sugar doesn't go too low.

Us prolonged-fasters have the mental thermostat / control mechanism to just whack that 1 lbs excess within a couple days, sometimes without interruptions in energy, and live our lives without social restriction. Its ridiculous to skip holiday meals, to skip dining out with family, to restrict during those events. Its equally ridiculous to let yourself become fat, and ridiculous to starve yourself miserable with weeks calorie restriction.
Get it over with, as jason said, by hitting it hard and fast. I love this motto, totally adopting it.

I lost over 100 and kept it off with extended fasting and keto in between. Be careful overdoing it, as it will lose its effect. Get plenty of protein between fasts, and take several weeks between fasts of 72 hours or more. The longer the fast, the longer the break. I did it quarterly, and fasted 10 days to three weeks, depending on how I felt. I never seem to fast longer than 72 hours anymore, having become less obese, but not yet particularly lean. HTH.
PS: The protein is a big deal, to avoid losing lean mass, and so is weight-bearing exercise, even while fasted. Protein and weight training (not doing it) are probably the biggest mistake I made. I'm currently at about 90 under my max, after having put maybe 15 pounds of muscle back on.

Interesting that you should mention the holidays because during the Middle Ages, the Catholics in Europe instituted St. Martin's Fast (St. Martin is the Roman who gave the naked man part of his cloak from his horse).
This fast works a lot like Lent but goes from 13 November to Christmas Eve.
I will research more of this fast, which I hypothisise might have been to conserve the fall harvest till the snow melted and more food could be hunted and/or grown.
As I am also minimalist, this Advent fast also checks people's desire to buy, buy, buy, and with fasting, they have the mental clarity to descern better where their money is going during this not only "fat-ridden" but "debt-ridden" time of the year.
Great video, as usual, Doctor! You're my new hero!!!

But I managed to stay on my intermittent fasting (skip breakfast) for the most part and tried to eat a lot of salads, meat and eggs (kind of a keto diet). I gained maybe a pound due to little exercise. Many days I only ate one meal as I really wasn't that hungry (kind of hard convincing my MIL that I didn't need to eat much). Of course, I lost a ton a day after coming home due to a norovirus that went through the family and a week later, am back to normal weight (still need to lose more weight, though).
