I think James is one of the UK's best music producers, he is a fantastic person to talk with, he is a very kind humble man, his heart is there for all up and coming music producers singer songwriters and all musicians. That's why he did F9 Audio. F9 audio is the way to go, its the future of music production, thanks Jameis best regards Robert UK London.

Very original and useful tricks, not the ones shown everywhere. Overall quality is high level (good demo song, good sounds, clean video editing, sound of the voice well balanced ...). Good job thanks !
I started messing around with Ableton a good number of years ago however it’s only the past year I’ve started using it as my DAW having gotten fed up with Reason... I can’t believe how much I’ve just learned... I know it’s a new upload, but I’m so glad to have found this :-D Massive thanks !!
Great tips! Thank you very much. I have one as well: you can simply select a region then drag it's title bar while holding the alt/option key to another track; no need to split first using ctrl/cmd+e.
19:31 min . You can also select duplicated audio files , press right click - consolidate ( or select - CTRL + J on Windows or CMD + J on Mac. ) to create one long audio file.
DraganPejicTV Absolutely - although Problem with Consolidate is that is cunningly Normalises the file then drops the clip gain to compensate for the change so I tend to use it sparingly - If they'd just allow us an option to turn off the normalise
There are more implications as well. Just pasting from the manual: "[...] creates new audio files, which are non-neutral in comparison to the original audio data. Specifically, the new files will be normalized, with their clip volumes adjusted to play back at the same volume as heard prior to consolidation. Normalization is a gain change, which is a non-neutral operation. Also, the new files will be created at the sample rate and bit depth set in Live‘s Preferences window, which may differ from those in the original audio files."
@@F9Audio Hi there, this is an old comment but I'd wanted to get back on it and ask: What would be the problem with the consolidated file being normalized and then changed back to the original volume? Especially when thinking about just consolidating little 4-8 bar loops. I've read in some forums, that people could hear artefacts in the consolidated files. I've never, at least consciously had that problem... and I consolidate quite a lot just to merge things, when rearranging audio within Ableton. It's just a quick shortcut within my workflow, as oppose to freeze/flatten. Any feedback is much appreciated :) Cheers!
@@friedrichtrede1735 i doubt there are artefacts audible without full lab anyalsis .. it does though negate an extra step of dsp during playback, even though a simple levelling will hardly use any CPU … personally I find it very handy to have clip gains at zero as I use them a lot for gain structure and being a DB Scale the most useful point is at ODB - Also you can obviously offload a plug-in chain with freeze / flatten and sometimes that allows you to find out you may have overloading in the chain of the resulting audio is visually clipping … you certainly won’t do any damage, but the obsession with Normalising in Ableton’s systems is a bit of mystery
@@F9Audio thanks for the super quick reply! yes, you are right regarding gain structure / gain staging it def more comfortable having clip gains at 0db and start off there. also visually seeing changes in the waveform done by processing is a pro for freeze/flatten. although, i can't change the plugins/processing at any time, which i can when just consolidate. i guess i will think about using freeze/flatten now more often depending on the use case. consolidating makes more sense to me when for example just quickly merging a 4bar kick loop (when using audio, using f.e. a drum rack and midi). big ups to your tutorials & especially the lovely patch packs!
Friend, we use almost the same tips and workflow on Live, so i can just admire and thank u for this awesome video, really usefull, clean, well edited and in addiction, u took very care about potential mistakes and misunderstanding. PERFECT TEACHER, really interested on what he is doin'!
great! i use some of your tipps for ages already :-) but some were pretty new. thx for all that fresh techniques. especially the simple delay stereo widening is what i never did before. i always used two copies of the same track and adjusted their pan to achieve a similar effect. with the simple delay its exactly like this: same effect, but very very easy and fast to setup. THX :)
Awesome videos, man. I just recently decided to dive into Live 8 even though I've had it for years. I've been working in Logic for a while and Live is quite different and has been a bit intimidating (hence why I've had it for so long and never learned it) so videos like this are just brilliant. I'm hoping to get fairly proficient in Suite 8 before I decide whether or not to shell out for the $300 upgrade to 9. I'm still working on getting some of the basic functions down so I can't thank you enough for providing so many great tips. PS: I also have to say thanks for your Logic tips. You showed me a lot of cool stuff that I never learned about.
very important tip @ 26:05 ! I remember exactly how annoyed and irritated I was when Live first introduced that fade feature back then... transients just went byebye and I thought: wtf??? what the hell is going on?! ..until I discovered mentioned feature in the settings... I also remember, that the fades are by default not displayed in the clip view. that's as ridiculous as the 'do not display file extensions' default setting in windows. pita.... good you mentioned that, I guess this is still bewildering folks as of now. nice collection of tips btw. ... I just realized that I use chord chops by far too rarely
There were some very good tips on this video. I have a compicated issue with Ableton - Melodyne 4. Melodyne can't read Ableton's tempo changes. However Ableton can read Melodyne's exported tempo maps (a MIDI file). Ableton asks Do you want to import signature and tempo? Yes you do. Ableton plays all the session with all the tempo variations and you can add and quantize other instruments. If you want to transfer a track into Melodyne 4, it doesn't follow the grid. There is an import button where you can import the tempo map you are using. But the Melodyne plug-in grid still won't follow. The purpose with an import button must be to get the plug-in grid to follow the session but it doesn't. So Melodyne plug-in can't read it's own files in Ableton. That's a tricky bit to solve and it is still unsolved.
F9 Audio, first off, I like you video that's the main thing. I think what you're saying is: "ALL DAWs sound far worse when the audio within is warped. Cubase, Logic all of them. Because Live relies so heavily on Warped Audio by design, you are confronted with this compromised sound more often than DAW's where warping is not such a big part of the workflow.' That's much different than saying Ableton's audio engine is inferior to others. Unrelated but interesting...I don't know if you saw the (unscientific not done by SOS Magazine!) Ableton Audio to Midi vs. Melodyne where some kid found in a pretty thorough test Live's did better. Now for all who are going to flame me, I'm just saying it's provocative not the gospel. 2 years ago I played a long electric guitar solo and then performed audio to MIDI. The resulting MIDI had only 1 bum note!
At around 4:00 you use the Auto Filter and record it so it goes with the audio file, I was wondering if you could explain how you can record the auto filter?
+Andreas Powell make sure that the automation arm is activated (it is 2nd button on right from the record button) and ableton will record any parameter change you make
Wtffff I didn't know you could click on a parameter and it would automatically pop up that parameters automation. That's super useful. Should have been obvious but damn. Nice.
Yes - you can do multiple groups at the same time using this method which is really handy for turning a full track or set of say drums into a lesser number of stems - With resample you can only do 1 at a time
Does anyone know this? When the arrangement view is full of tracks you can only scroll to the last track. Is there any way to scroll beyond the last track into empty space without having to alt drag the channels?
I'm afraid not directly - 3 work arounds .. 1 - select last track and use key commands to add new tracks ... 2 - Group a load of tracks that are just simply routed to master together and twirl the pack up using the folder arrow ... that should give you loads more space ... 3 - I believe if you tab round to session view you still get room to add more tracks but dont quote me on that one
f9 studio not so. (if you're referring to Ableton which I assume you are.) Sound on Sound in England measured with double blind listening as well as software measurements Ableton's engine and it had the same fidelity as all other DAWs (regarded as "sounding great.") this was done YEARS AGO.
I remember the article .. However they did so with the warping engine turned off - the moment any kind of warp is applied to audio the sound changes dramatically ( complex pro for example uses technology licensed from Zplane ).
Yes but my comments are about Ableton in Normal session - where Warping is used ..
