      I'll tell you - HKA design do an 8 bit crushing pedal and this morning I had the Prrophet through it and actually had to physically take the pedal out of the room as the combination was so addictive .. Felt like I was in a Justice Session

      That's the ticket - I did actually rack my brains for it whilst doing this as I've heard it countless times but could'nt remember the actual show - more investigate current affairs than news i guess ... Did you see the one on Ultra processed food recently ?

      This has actually got me thinking about the other modes - maybe keeping everything on the white notes and explaining them would be a great idea for another few vids

    I recently learned that a very common descending chord progression in European deep/progressive house is i-VII-VI-V, with the fifth chord played as a non-diatonic major (e.g. Am G F E in A minor, where an E minor is expected.) It turns out that it's known as the Andalusian cadence and is a resolution to the I chord (in a 4-3-2-1) in the Phrygian mode. So next time I see a house track going Am G F E, I'll be able to say "That might not be in A minor. It could be E Phrygian".

    As a psytrance/ goa producer E Phrygian was my best friend the first 10 years of my productions. Still love that scale and somehow this track has a totally different vibe to all of that. Music is truly magical ❤. Love all your tutorials man. Keep em coming!

    Really cool to hear this explained in an electronic music context. I use harmonic minor, Phrygian and the even darker Phrygian dominant variation a load with guitar...in fact I probably overuse it a lot as it was one of the first exotic scales I discovered and it felt like I had unlocked some secret to sound more like an advanced shredder rather than a beginner (but after just a couple years of playing I would still definitely consider myself a beginner...so much more to learn & practice!).
    I'm actually writing an essay about a house track atm for the music course I'm doing. It's a more mainstream vocal house song, not something darker like deep or tech house but I have noticed some melodies that use a semitone interval to add a moodier vibe in some parts...it's a '90s song so was perhaps influenced by the underground house of that time. I've been trying to find any information about that use of the semitone interval in more underground house styles like acid house, and the more atmospheric & trippy deep house styles like lofi house. I can't really find any definitive info about it though. Is this something you've explored yourself? Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on that!

    Brilliant video..I just wish you would do templates for Cubase users

    • @F9Audio
      @F9Audio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We were really hoping Steinberg would sort Halion Sonic with V7 out but alas no -
      We actually lost nearly a month trying to get F9 Mercury into it so we could support Cubase but they've not changed anything about the archaic, fussy and downright buggy library encoding system for Halion Libraries we just had to admit a very painful an expensive defeat.
      Please hassle them to put an editable, professional Sampler capable of multisample keygroups, layers and round-robin directly into Cubase and Nuendo - It's omission is striking and we can't create templates like this without it. To give you an example of the flipside - We were able to convert the entire library of Mercury to Bitwig in less than 24 hours - It was so easy to do, My wife ( who had never even opened Bitwig before ) could do the main bulk of the keygroup conversion for us in 2 hours.
      I love Cubase and use other Steinberg Apps like Backbone and Spectralayers every single week, but they are short changing users with this obsession of trying to push everyone into a sampling platform that has a frankly terrible development structure. This is the reason we simply don't see 3rd party Halion Libraries everywhere.
      We truly hope this changes in the future.

      I really wish I'd have known all this 20 years ago - I always had the understanding of modes completely backwards so I hope this starts to help others - by the way - there's a different mode starting from every key - see if you can find the one that sounds like the old Blockbusters jungle and the one that you hear all the time in Latin

    @F9Audio Why do yo have Genelec 8030c if you already have Event Opals? Do they provide something Event Opals don't?

    • @F9Audio
      @F9Audio  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes - All 3 monitors were chosen as they are so dramatically different - also to the left out of sight is a B+W zepplin Hifi Bluetooth speaker hardwired in with a convertor that takes a balanced output from my SPL monitor controller down to domestic ( RCA Phono ) level and in through a minjack aux - the mixture between all 4 is amazingly useful as if a mix sounds good across the bunch - it'll work absolutely anywhere .
      The Genelecs are very clean sounding and slightly sweetened - this means they are easy to work on for long periods of time whereas the Opals I find need to be driven properly and do not hold back on your mix's issues - this can be terribly distracted when in the artistic end of things as you'll get pulled away in technicalities that can actually be quickly solved later in either mixing or a dedicated time for rebalancing and Equalisation
      I have found that like my body's internal energy systems ( i.e. - blood sugar and when that runs out - stored energy ) my mind has two distinct modes of operation -
      1 - Creative, emotional response and inspiration
      2 - Technical, problem solving and fault finding
      Moving between the two is not seamless is actually quite jarring, it also breaks mental states and Flow state only really exists for me in the 1st, so creating an environment where I don't get dragged out of the creative work has been the best thing I've ever done - Both the Genelecs and the Avantone mixcubes are perfect for this - Actually the Avantones even more as there simply is no sub end so I just don't worry about it once I've done the bass end work initially as I know I can have a break, then throw it all up to the events and sort that end out
      Missing link was my Focal Clear MG pro headphones - they go all the way down to 5Hz and under so saved me having to set a sub up in here which i have never enjoyed

    • @F9Audio

      about 75% of Kicks that are key labelled are completely incorrect - i really wouldn't worry about it as the whole concept is immensely flawed ( covered in other videos here t - The Phrygian mode can be used in any key - though - please check the rest of this video where I actually discuss Gminor
