- Wakfu is a show that I had personally enjoyed watching. The best part of the show was the main villain of the first season Nox or Noximilian the Watchmaker btw this is my opinion.

Anyway there's no indication in the show that it's possible to travel back with any other method, why are you assuming that he could? There's no reason to assume for example that you could rewind only a small piece of the universe, nor what the consequences of that would be, nor how much additional time that would give you. You are assuming all of those things in direct contradiction to what the show is telling you.

You are literally just assuming that, not only based off no information, but counter to what the show has shown you is the case. There's nothing logical about that. Also the universe, both in fiction and in real life is definitely connected in a big way, it's called cause and effect. you cant possibly know just based on 'logic' how that would be affected.
@@slevinchannel7589 Well, lore tells you otherwise. Time has been set up by the Xelor god himself when he created the Divine Clockwork out of 6 dofus and various other things.
Going back in time is supposed to be impossible after that because it actually means to go against Xelor's creation but the Cube and it's long forgotten knowledge allowed him to achieve those 20 minutes. Nox is not as dumb as you think he is. He was desperate.
If I remember my lore, even the god Xelor was unable to go back in time. So even 20 minutes is a action that topped what The God of Time could do.
And Nox was not even supposed to make the Elacube work. Not even a Dragon could.

Honestly though, when I realized what Nox's plan was I legitimately started rooting for him. If he won, every awful thing he did would reversed. I was rooting for him so hard during the show, and so sad and utterly ticked off when it only sent him back 20 minutes.

As Nox explained to Yugo "only the people present in the clock would remember what happened" so if he went 200 years in the past, Nox would undo everything he had done but he would have kept the memories of it and wouldn't have made the same mistakes.
Nox's voice actor for the English dub did put heaps of effort in his character making sound psychotic but you can hear the sadness in his voice with lines like "I'm coming my darlings" and "Daddy's coming home"

In a way, I prefer the English voice. I feel the french one is too manic in the personality. Nox isn't some impulsive madman, he's a desperate, intelligent father commiting atrocities to try and fix all that he's done wrong, and I think the English dub does a better job of portraying that.

Destroying the Tree of Life wouldn't destroy the world, but it would instantly kill every member of an entire race (the Sadidas in french), since their vital energy directly comes from it, so much that the Tree of Life can actually take full control of any Sadida at will if he wants to.
And Nox was indeed a great villain because he wasn't a bad person, just a broken man who couldn't care less: He was persuaded that he would succeed so every wrong thing he had done would be erased from history and cancelled, and if he didn't succeed, well why would he care about the world since he cannot see his family again? In the end though, after losing and being confronted by Yugo on his crimes, he cries realizing what a monster he had become, and chooses to commit suicide to finally rejoin his family...
And to think this was aired just after Garfield the Cat, it's a miracle such a brilliant, emotional and dark scenario made it out on TV for young audiences at the time.
Edit: For those wondering, it has been confirmed in artbooks released after S1 that Nox did commit suicide to finally join his family in death.
I don't think he committed suicide because before one of those episode where he fueled himself with wakfu to live longer but when he visited to his family grave, his age caught up with him and turned into dust

@@TheTotoyesyes I don't remember completely, but based on the games and the series, I think they go back to where they came from and are a collection of souls. Some demi-gods reincarnate some amount of times and after that amount is done, they go back as well. What is sure is they don't go to the "Shukrute" (I don't know its name in English).
A good villain does not have to be a relatable one, nor does he/she/it have to have some quality(s) that can help us to understand/sympathize/etc with them. Some pure evil villains are absolutely amazing, and are just some of the best (if not THE best) villains of all time.

Yugo just teleported the clock to Mount Zinit, where Ogrest resided.
yeah but Ogrest's character model in that episode is a bit different fromm when we seem him later, so the speculation is understandable, and it would be a heartwrenching twist if by accident yugo's space warping interacted with the xelor magic nox was using and did send them back, it wouldn't have been the rewind Nox aimed for but, missed opportunities huh. Even without it the scene still works to show a bit of what Nox wants to undo, and adds to his character

@@hobbesgoblin2691 Kind of, that is why xelors like Nox are the only other people that can teleport other than eliatropes like yugo- and he clearly does this in a number of his battles, not just timestoping and moving- so yugo doing the opposite, and time traveling is concievable, if unlikely

The lesson we can learn from Nox's story is:
"Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got till it's gone..."
The more important lesson should be, "look out of your window once in a while, coz youll never know when a world ending flood will come".

The nox past episode was made by one of the most talented student of Masaaki Yuasa (The creator of devil man crybaby) and himself for the character design the storyboard and everything are so dark and ingenious even the animation reflects something creepy, and im not even mentioning the incredible voice actor of Nox who did a genius job anyway I love this episode so much that’s so sad Wakfu is not that popular in north america

Just one addendum, ogrest is a monster central to background lore of the wakfu age, is not mentioned in the series but he still alive and flooded the world changing totally the landscape. In the final battle they were teleported by accident to mount zinit, a giant mountain that is in the eye of the storm, and where ogrest lives.
I believe that them teleporting to mount zinit was a very subtle foreshadowing of the truth behind the mountain.
True the Chaos of Ogrest is another matter of a tragic antagonists actions since this chaos is just caused when moments of Orgrest's tears cause the oceans to swell.
Even then Ogrest was still destroying the world
Each times he cries a flood appears somewhere in the world. And he is a crybaby

They even went back to the very moment where Ogrest lost his mind, many people believe it only went back 20 minute bc of Nox's line, but it's not true, they show you that the clock went back in time, got almost drained of energy, then went forward until it didn't have more energy left

Also as someone who watched season 1 again a few months ago; it never occur to me that Yugo may had traveled all the way back before Nox's family was killed by Ogrest. If you are going to do more videos on Wakfu then I cannot wait! I am currently watching season 3.
Themanwithn0eyes I got through season 1-2 then watched a little of season 3 and I was like....holy shit.....the fuck happened. Why redacted has censored with redacted and they blank. So I decided to watch the OVA and read the manga. So I figured out the rest of the story. How blank died and other such things. The funniest thing is when redacted says to redacted they should take a break for a couple months then a time skip of 6 years from season 2 to the OVA happens.
PS: I love this show enough that I don’t want to spoil anything. I stupidly read some of the story details online before the second season and I fucking spoiled myself of all the surprise. So I censored half the stuff in my comment so the same does not happen to anyone who stumbles upon this comment.

It really hits you when you see Nox talking to himself that he knows everything he does is atrocious, but once he achieve his goals everything will be erased, none will ever have happened, then that conclusion. There's a part of a song from another animated series that always reminds me of Nox.

I have only one correction: The English dub Nox KILLS the voice role, and is, in my opinion, the only non-cringe va of the english dub, to the point that hearing his laugh is extremely chilling

honestly, while I think Nox is an amazing villain, personally I think Quilby is even better. and while is less relatable, I feel is kinda more original, and it's a bit of a shame that he's seen as the lesser villain of the two.
It's easy to see Qilby as a selfish asshole that put his entire race in danger for personal gain, but I think it's important to look at it from his point of view. Unlike his siblings, he could remember everything each time he was reborn. Now, if this happened with a human, it probably wouldn't be that big a deal since we are constantly advancing, but the Eliatropes didn't do that. They had their perfect society and it would remain static, never changing or advancing. Eventually he did everything that could be done, felt everything that could be felt, and then he did it over and over again. imagine being locked up in a single room for years and years, unable to leave or get any information from the outside world. that's how opresive it must have been for him.
He pleaded his siblings for help, to advance, explore the universe, but they wouldn't listen to him. they would not sacrifice their perfect world for him. he not only was trapped in an infinite loop of repetition, but he was alone, for no one could understand him. eventually his boredom turned into desperation, and that desperation into madness. He would sacrifice anything in order to escape his "prision", and that's what he did, instigating a devastating war that almost destroyed his race just to be able to experience something new.
and at the end his punishment was quite fitting, as he was left trapped in an endless void where there was literally nothing for him to do or no one for him to speak with. he started all of that cause he felt trapped and alone, so he ended up trully trapped and alone.
I feel it's honestly quite tragic. Nox could have accepted what he did and what he lost instead of almost destroying the world trying to fix it. But Qilby trully had no way to escape from his condition. He was forever destined to go insane, cause his ability was trully a curse.
I totally agree. Nox is a great villain, really REALLY great, but in my opinion, just Qilby's tragic and horrible backstory and curse makes him better.
I can't choose who's the greatest, but Nox and Qilby are both amazing antagonists (I don't even think we can use the word Villain at this point) they both wanted to reunite with their family in a sense, Since Qilby feared to be alone, he wanted to go with the other eliatropes, and the imprisonnement in the white dimension, worsened that feeling, and drove him crazy. I assume that Shinonome has the same curse than Qilby, since he says she's the only one to understand him, while he thinks no one cares about him and his curse.
Truly, Wakfu did pretty well at making astonishing antagonist, at some point, we can even root for them and hoping they succeed. And pushing the reflexion, we can even wondering if Yugo and his group did the good thing, are they really Heroes? (Plus, they've never defeated any major antagonist, never, Nox killed Yugo when he was distracted by Ogrest. Qilby was defeated by Shinonome, and Oropo decided to stay with Eko, even if it means getting killed by the eliabomb)
Honestly, when I watched the final episodes for the first time, I cried. He honestly has one of the most tragic backstories of most characters, and part of me felt horrible because of that.
I've never thought of that theory you talked about Yugo time travelling and not just teleporting. Either way, Nox is quite a great villain, as he isn't one in his eyes. Moreover, his plan can be interpreted as not evil even by others because of time travel logic. It's flawed because, well, he didn't think he could fail.
Nox is a great villain. He genuinely thought he could go back in time and save his family. But still he is bad and selfish. His plan was practically impossible even in the world of wakfu. The cube did twist his mind as well when he found it, if he didn't find it he would never become like this as well... Nox is a good villain compared to many others because he is not just a horrible monster that wants to destroy everything, he has feelings, he understands what he is doing is bad, but the idea of getting his family back if he could just go back in time is twisting his common sense. Going back in time for so many years was never happening, still he was ready to sacrifice it all just to have a 1:10000000 chance. That's what categorizes him as a villain losing his sense for reality and endangering millions for his family. His pain is understandable, I feel him, but I could never endanger or kill someone just for a small chance of seeing my loved ones again. Unfortunate events happen so cherish every moment with your loved ones here in this world because it may be the last 😢.

Edit : so the first thing was the videogame Dofus, from which we got the animation serie Wakfu (+some movies) and from that we got the videogame Wakfu which is actually very similar to Dofus.

Oh crap dude!! You blew my mind with that theory about the time rewind being the moment before Nox's family got killed!! If this is how it pans out in the show, then OMG my heart goes out for Nox. (I haven't finished watching the show yet)
This is a wrong theory (although a quite interesting), you can see it when nox makes time go backwards. It makes an expanding bubble whereas when nox teleports it just makes a flash. Moreover, Tot ( Ankama s CEO and writer) said last scene was meant to tell players from Wakfu game they would not kill Ogrest in the game. Because in fact the game takes place 10 years before the story. Just a small detail for the players, but a nice one. Sorry for this

The great thing about Nox is that it isn't clear at all that's his motivation, that that's the backstory, but when it clicks right at the end of the season, you're like "Wow!"
Because that evil dude that was pretty cool and had some great powers but was totally crazy, actually didn't just have good motivation, he had great motivation, and he failed so hard, and gods, that's painful.

Out of all the villians I've seen, I have to say that nox is one of my favorites, he's such a good developed character and he shows that not every villian is just a villian sometimes their just broken people.
I'm a little late but if someone want to know why nox special episode/backstory is so good, it's because it's actually very inspired by the life of Tot, the creator of ankama and what the creation and potentiel of ankama almost did to him and his family

I feel like I know why he didn't go back as far as he wanted.
When he started to go back, the Wakfu he had absorbed needed to go back to where it was taken from to restore its temporal state. Imagine Yugo staying dead after Nox went back.
When he reached a point where he took Wakfu, it had to return to its source, because at that point the Wakfu hadn't been taken yet.

Pretty much, alongside the fact the wakfu needed for the spell was never enough to begin, if he had been able to use every bit of it, he might´ve acomplished at best 1 hour of time rewinding not 20 minutes.
Lmao time travel does not work that way.
Wakfu can be completely expended, it does not have to return/be reused.

Such a heartbreaking story.
I’m kind of torn between which animation of Noximillian’s wife is better looking, because the flashback of her when Nox is remembering his family is both cute and pretty attractive. On the other hand, the special episode version of her has that beautiful tanned skin and a gorgeous hourglass figure that would drive any guy madder than Nox with the Eliacube.

its also a powerful note, nox in the end nox essentially committed suicide, or atleast what it seems to be set up that way if you have some of the game lore. in the games its explained that xelors have to have the bandages they wear tight and on at all times when they use their magic to teleport or manipulate time, if they dont it there are consequenses and has the high chance of killing them. nox in the end while even exceeding the human life span and may have turned to dust since he wasn't with the cube anymore and that kept him alive for so long, it is also possible he knew the xelor code and effects of the magic and since his bandages were so tattered and broken at the end of the fight him using the time manipulation teleportation to go to his families graves. it essentially turned him to dust. since we know xelors are immune to their own time traps that cause ageing and fast forwarding of time in areas as seen in the games and a few episodes later down the line.
at least thats what i gathered from the xelor religious code and lore about them as a race/magic class though it would be a fitting end for him. knowing that death would be the only way to see his family again and what he sees some what atone for the destruction and death that caused others so much pain if he did this knowingly and willingly. he is by far one of my favorite characters and baddies of all time and one of the best bad guys in the series.
Wakfu is incredibly underrated. Both seasons are good but Nox is such an incredible villain that the villain of second season fails to live up to him. His voice acting, his weird clock-like movements, his story and even motivation everything about him is perfect. Definitely one of my favorite villains.
Great video man, I never noticed the possibility that Nox actually went back but screwed it up because of his fight with yugo, thanks for that it adds that extra bitter sweet laye which makes Nox qll the more enjoyable.

Nox is the amazing story of a guy who just wanted to see his family he had lost
He though he could go back in time and so he accepted to become a villain and go against the whole world because he could then erase everything doing so, so for him crossing any limit like murder and world destruction were worth as they could be erased, he really believed that he could fix everyting.. he was just a broken guy and wasnt evil.. at some point he even heal Yugo's father which ask him why he did that, he explains that he want someone to know that he's sorry for what he's about to do to the world, he doesnt particularly enjoy what he does but he's so motivated to fixing his mistakes and seing his family again that he goes from a normal humain to one of the most powerful being
Its even said not all Xelor xan manipulate time but he became stronger than the Xelor god as he was able to bend time to his will, mostly slow it or toraly stop it teleport and eventualy go back in time
But he eventualy learned that past cannot be changed, or as far as we know he couldn't ..

When discovering that his plan had failed and that he can't go back more in time than 20m for 200 years worth of stealing wakfu from the strongest beings he eventualy accept his fate.. he knew that he had to accept all the bad things he had done and would never be able to erase it, so he vanished into dust accepting to give up, as time catched up on him.. he should have died long ago.. only the wakfu had kept him alive
Actually Nox did have more than enough Wakfu to go back 200 years, but Quilby, another Eliatrope trapped inside the cube and was the one who directed Nox’s actions, used that energy to free himself from the Eliacube in season 2. So mega oof for Nox there.
essentially if it weren't for quilby EVERYTHING WOULD BE SO MUCH BETTER. the eliatropes would be travelling literal dimensions just for the heck of it and the world of twelve would only just have to deal with ogrest and nothing more

This is not true. Quilby was trapped in the White Dimension and was freed through Yugo and Adamai using the Eliacube in season 2 when they opened a portal into it accidentaly.

Nox did not have enough wakfu to go back 200 years (not even Xelor god has that quantity of wakfu, because if you think about that, if Xelor had that amount of wakfu, he can go back in time and stop Ogrest's Chaos), and the one who directed Nox's actions was Oropo.
I remember randomly stumbling on this show on Netflix and I really liked it (other than season 3), and I remember being kind of disappointed by it not being main stream. I'm happy to see that there were some videos about it, even if me at the time didn't notice.

Janus Kirsatyrus what I love about Nox, though, is that he is one of the few villains where it feels like he has a real justification. Like, if he was right and he could actually go back 200 years, none of the damage he did would have happened.
I find it very intriguing as why Nox never went to kill Ogrest? I mean he would have 2 perfectly good reasons to do that:
1. It was Ogrest that killed his family, so he could take revenge and
2. Ogrest was one of the biggest sources of wakfu in the entire world and Nox needed every bit of it for his plan.
So yeah, I think that they could have make it as that Nox went against Ogrest. I mean just imagine how epic that fight would be!

Maybe I'm misremembering things, but didn't it take both Yugo with every Dofus and full-power Tristepin to bring him down? I doubt Nox could've defeated Ogrest.

Everyone is the hero of their own story. He thought he was a hero until the last moment, where he realized he was the villain.
I don't think he was crazy and that the cube was acually talking to him, but that it was Qilby trapped in the cube needing wakfu to escape. So in my mind everything Nox does can be linked back to Qilby.
Honestly, it is supreme story writing and character building to have a villain that gets so consumed by the thought of going back in time to save his family that succeeds... only to be so consumed by the fight he is in to not notice, and reverse time again to go back to the future where he started. Absolutely incredible. 10/10 for story theming.
You forgot to mention that upon realizing his mistake and raging against the cube, he reversed his time magic on himself and died. I think it really paints the character the right way, as someone who couldn't live with his failure.
Holy Crap! A Wakfu video? This is literally the best. This show is so good but soo underrated. Especially since the lore is so deep, the characters are fun and well designed and the world building is fantastic; pulling the video game lore and action into an animated tv show setting

When does Nox die?
In season 3 his "ghost" starts mocking yugo about his death being his fault
After his battle with Yugo he teleported away. But without the magic of the cube to extend his life, well... He went to his family grave (at least we think it is) and let time reclaim his body. At 7:33 we see his fate.
He commits suicide shortly after his defeat at the end of S1. The "ghost" in S3 is just an hallucination of Yugo showing his self-doubts.
I thought the eliacube was what was keeping Nox alive for so long, and after the fight it stops doing so and he dies or something, I dunno.
If they indeed went back in time then it'd make sense that eliacube was so "ineffective", it started to rewind time but on its way was a 200 years jump/gap, it's drained most of the contained wakfu and all that was left was just the 10 additional minutes.
This sounds & looks amazing, will have to give it its own time soon!
the fact that wakfu has been watch by others than french and canadian touch my hearth. its my childhood and the story behind the making of wakfu is pretty sad... Lets hope for season4

I have never seen a 'review of any sort, let alone a specific character, and most especially a villain, hit the nail, square on the head, as well as you seem to have done (in just under 8 minutes, by the way) as you did. Xelor in the dofus/wakfu metaverse is the god in charge of the fabric of time, because the time is not bounded with the space in the begining... so if nox wanted to stop time it just can do if the caster knows how to ¨deaccelerate¨ the flow of time (with spells from the xelor class), but the rewind of time needs a lot more than just the knowledge or energy, he needs the approval of the god himself, so when nox rewinds the time the one who alterates its goal is xelor itself... so that is why nox blames the eliacube, if nox knowed that rewind the time needs the approval of a god that most likely is dead then he must need the approval of some of its children (that had the authority to do that) and the ones that can do it are fraktal and vortex (past and future respectively)...
but just to speak with one of xelor´s child he must travel to the gods dimension, so nox idea was impossible from the start

Nox is a great villain because he runs, in some twisted way, on love. The love for his family whom he drove away.
Love is a powerful emotion that will make people perform great or terrible things and on that note, it makes Nox someone you can connect to quite easily.

seeing this video in my recommended instantly filled me with feeling of nostalgia as it is villains ad characters like NOX that inspired much of my love of story telling and fascination with interesting villains that actually have an interesting motive and personality in story telling in general such as, ultron, thanos, silco, thresh, megatron(from transformers prime) and a hundred other interesting villain characters that weren't simply empty evil husks for the main characters to defeat. thank you for the video and taking me on a little blast into the past :D

The English dub actor for nox was amazing tho, so underated. I suggest only watching the English dub because his voice is too chilling. So good
When I first watched wakfu as a young child I was so attached to dally and his character that I even started to respect the voice actor but when I watched season 3 and they had changed him I was so disappointed.
The english dub for nox sounds like a robot, pretty much exactly like Zenyatta from Overwatch which is completely disrespectful towards the character. Nox is just a human with powers and an armor, there is no reason he would have a robotic voice, he's a human with strong emotions and removing that is a total betrayal of his character.

I am utmostly certain that when Yuog and Nox teleported to mount Zinit, they didn't go back in time. Ogrest had spent the 200 last years there, so he was still in this place when Yugo and Nox fought. The only thing is that, where Nox used the cube, as a Time Mage, he could go back in time. Yugo, whose power is to teleport (along with Nox on small distances), teleports the whole clock instead.
It's more about the user's power's nature, the cube just works as a catalyst.
Sympathetic Villains are mostly best villains. And yeah I watched Wakfu in English dub. But still I liked the video.
