I’ve always been afraid to try my hand at edging, but I truly believe I can do it after watching this video! Thanks for always giving helpful tips and for allowing us to hang out with y’all in your beautiful garden.
I was so excited to see another video! Perfect with a cup of coffee and a notepad for any plant names or tool names I want to remember. Love those crisp fresh edges, thank you and hope you had a great trip!! 🌿❤
I am addicted to your channel. I'm the wife of this you tuber. After watching the 1st 5 min of this show, I went to Great Garden Plants site and bought some shrubs to fill some empty areas in my border. I told myself I was done planting this year, except for bulbs, but darn it, the dirt is still soft. I appreciate your one liners. I crack up listening to you both. You will need to take some garden trips and take us along. Maybe have us plant seeds with you this winter. I am obsessed with Hydrangeas now because of you Both! Keep doing what you are doing, a Plant addict from Ohio, Lynn
I love learning from you both, at 63 I need all the help I can get! We bought a home in August and both the house and yard needs to be done. I feel guilty when I work outside because there's so much inside but winter is coming here in Maine. I am clearing and cutting away to plant as much as I can in the fall, is there a time to stop planting. I want to go to Home Depot, half off, and grab a couple more hydrangeas and maybe more cypress. Thank you both, have a wonderful day.
Stunning backyard!!!🤩❤ i love the drone shots, i had to go back and watch it a few times! Hopefully you inspire your neighbors🤞...that's what i hope for mine anyway🫠
I place my hose to visualize the expanded bed before cutting in the edge. I don't think of myself as a visual person necessarily as many other gardeners say they are. But for that I am. Ah, yes. The dreaded sandy soil. Yours appears even more sandy than mine. In rejuvenating a garden bed this year, I added lots of Land & Sea compost. I never saw any worms. Fast forward a couple months later and heavy rains for the first time all season, I now have lots of worms. TY for answering my question about using Bio-tone this late in the season. (I know you can't read my mind, but I was curious about that.)
My closed captioning is not helping me with the annual you pointed out, the raspberry cream ... I just love those round pink lollypop flowers. This is such a helpful video and you two are a great team! Just look at the paradise you've created and in such a relatively short time!
First of all, thank you so much for the how to on edging. Second, the stones around the house like that is absolutely brilliant! I’ve been watching gardening videos a long time and have never seen either. ❤
Thank you for showing how to edge and mulching with compost. I am considering doing the same. My puffer fish is about 2 years old and it is beautiful. I am looking forward to see your next year. Great content as alway.
I am new to your videos and truly enjoy watching them. I have watched many of them this week while recuperating from a surgery. Thank you for your gentle pace and great advice. Quick question…where do you purchase all of the meadow rue varieties? I am in the same grow zone as you. Thanks so much!
I hope you are feeling well! The meadow rue we have collected from a few different garden trips. It’s not as common to find. I grab any new variety I can find!!
Beautiful work again, gentlemen. Because of you, I just purchased this week three gorgeous Little Quick Fires and have ordered a Let’s Dance Can Do and two Bobo Hydrangeas. I have definitely caught the bug. Thank you! And you’re area has such beautiful fall color. Cherish that. Here in my area of Kentucky, we don’t usually get a lot of tree color. Our usually very dry August and Septembers cause the leaves to just drop in October without any color show.
Love living in Upstate New York. Leaf peeking of Fall foilage is a huge tourist attraction for us. Beautiful colors. Thank you for taking us step by step on your edging process.
When I even mention my gardens my hubby says "can I mow around it" LOL. He knows me so well. I love edging but for a new bed I always use cardboard and compost. Enjoy every minute of your trip!
Another great video❤❤❤👏👏👏.here in South Texas zone 9a we put our seeds in brown paper bags. We find plastic allows humidity to accumulate and sometimes seeds will get fungi. ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊
I've been following you two for a while, and love your content. Your mulch always looks so great and stays dark. What do you use for mulch? It looks phenomenal and your edging is perfect.
Edging doesn’t look that difficult. Looks great. I bet you wished you had a flat shovel though. (Sorry, couldn’t help myself!) We had quite a few days of warm and humid weather here in northern WI but it’s gone so cool weather is on its way. Thanks for sharing guys!!!

Hi Eric and Christopher, this is Terry from Boise, ID zone 6b. This is my first time seeing your video, I enjoyed it very much. Where are you in zone 5b I think you said? I have quite a few flower beds with wood bark mulch, I really like your idea of putting compost on top of the bark, I know compost is better for the soil, but don't you get more weeds?
I love the look of the compost in your garden beds.❤❤ I'm definitely trying this in my garden. Do you have a problem with weeds growing inyour beds vs regular mulch??
Really great information….thanks guys! Do you use bagged compost…if so, what kind? I would love to use compost rather than mulch. It looks great and is so much better for the plants! Thanks again!
Your gardens are so gorgeous! I don’t see a weed in sight and I noticed you guys don’t use any type of weed fabric or cardboard in your beds. How do you guys keep weeds away?
I knew you couldn’t leave us hanging without a (final?) tally of hydrangeas! Of all the garden tools in my collection, I don’t have a manual edger. I make do, carefully trying to use a shovel but it’s not great of course- lol! I’ll be purchasing one now! It is interesting how different your soil is from my 5b here in the Chicago suburbs. I mean, I knew it was different, but to see you just be able to pull up the sod like that… Our soil is more clay-based and it definitely requires a flat shovel imo to help lift up the heavy pieces. Enjoyed the episode! 😊
Great job!! Isn't it fun removing grass to make flowerbeds bigger? I love my curved borders and edges ❤ 136 Hydrangeas!! Wow,what a collection - I'm a huge (Proven Winners) hydrangea fan and currently have 68... just planted a hedge of 6 Limelights. I see you perfected the drone - great overhead vistas ❤
Where do you get your compost from? It looks so dark. Love it! Don’t the weeds grow in your compost more than if you mulched your beds with bark mulch?
You definitely have inspired me to work on my garden edges. Do you have to refresh the edges every year? And next year instead of bagged mulch, I’m going to try compost.
At the 1:55 mark, the grass and coleus is a gorgeous combo. Type of grass and coleus? Your beautiful garden has a clean, and relaxing, yet structured feel.
This was fun! I get a kick out of what you call rocks. Here, we call those stones. Our rocks are beefy and I call hubby for help. Can you tell us what brand of electric edger you are using?
I love your gardens and I love the rocks around your foundation, and the curved edging to separate rock from mulch! I wish we had done that when we got started 8.5 years ago, but I would still like to do this at some point in the next year or 2. May I ask what edging you used to get such crisp curves?
I’m interested in switching from wood mulch to compost. My question is do weeds grow easily on compost? I like the mulch because it suppresses growth of weeds. My neighbor doesn’t spray his yard for weeds and I feel I would get lots of weeds growing on compost? Michigan zone 6❤
I have the exact same soil around our house, also due to the builders backfill. It is also shade on the North side of the house with hot afternoon sun, and full sun until noon in the front (East). It's been very challenging to learn about what plants will work with the soil and sun conditions. Especially having never gardened before (city life)! It's all so rewarding when it finally work though! Love the addition of the puffer fish hydrangeas! 140 in total..wow! How do you guys deal with deer? They must eat everything on your property!
@@growformegardening Ah! That's great! I had to deer fence every inch of my property. We only have .17 of an acre.. so it's managable but the only way I can have a garden. We have heavy heavy deer pressure. 🙁
Someone likes you to send all those plants? How does that work? Thanks. Love watching. Love me some hydrangeas. But, they are so expensive in numbers. Any suggestions on how to get the best plants for our money? Bargains in other words, perhaps? We want a garden like yours. All advice is appreciated.

I just saw that at Hoens Garden Center Toledo OH. you could call and make sure, but I know Seaside was on tag. They have 35% off now. I don't know if they ship. Maybe you need a weekend get away or on your return home from wherever you are. I live in zone 7 and I tried to grow hydrangea. The area gets morning thru 3 sun. I have had no luck. My neighbor put one out in full hot afternoon sun and her hydrangea is doing great?? I don't understand, I thought these plants were part sun/shade

Found the edger at Gardners Supply but did not find the weeding Hoe. Do you remember where you purchased it? Thank you!
Oh gosh. Some big box store. I really can’t remember
@@growformegardeninggot it. Thank you. I am on my way to better edges. ❤
Do you like the edging around your gravel? I made gravel paths but no edges and i chase gravel all the time. Does the edging stop that? Thanks!
It absolutely does. Once in awhile it gets kicked out but it’s no biggie
Your channel is now one of my favorites! I appreciate you being so real and funny, and showing how it really goes instead of being perfect.
What brand made your double blade edge hoe? Your attention to details results in the most beautiful landscaping! Love watching your videos!
Gosh I really don’t know. I k ow I grabbed it at a big box store
I want to exxpand the border in my backyard but the ground is hard as a rock. Any tips? My half moon tool won't budge AT ALL when I put pressure on it.
Have you tried running the hose on the area? Water might make the area softer so you can get your edge cut.
PS You need 4 more!
Yes!!! But what kind?!
Fairy Tale Bride for one, Just bought it by the picture and planted, and doing well. Twist and Shout (bought 3 of these) or Fire and Ice I've been taking notes on your plantings. I usually buy one of everything. Now I am buying sometimes 3. Like you say "to repeat for the wow factor and it draws the eye."
Waiting anxiously for your next Vid!@@growformegardening
Thank you kindly. We didn't have the best luck with FairyTrail. We've been on the hunt for one called Seaside Serenade Glacier Bay.
I just saw that at Hoens Garden Center Toledo OH. you could call and make sure, but I know Seaside was on tag. They have 35% off now. I don't know if they ship. Maybe you need a weekend get away or on your return home from wherever you are. I'm about to watch your next vid with morning coffee. the best part of traveling is pulling into random nurseries and finding what you really need. Good luck hunting!@@growformegardening
@@jthej2811 Thanks for the tip! Maybe they ship!
What kind of compost is best?
We have ours delivered from a local supplier.
I live in zone 7 and I tried to grow hydrangea. The area gets morning thru 3 sun. I have had no luck. My neighbor put one out in full hot afternoon sun and her hydrangea is doing great?? I don't understand, I thought these plants were part sun/shade
Some hydrangeas are just better suited to sun than others. Try panicle hydrangeas, they can handle the most sun.
