      Kinda the same for me when I played Bethpage Black a year before the 2002 Open was played there. Just a little more anticipation when it's played on a course you've played before. This layout looks sick. Very unique, especially for this tournament.

    I have never seen this course before, and I have to say that it is absolutely stunning! At first glance, it seems like angles of play into the greens and hole locations are going to be the primary challenges. I’m pumped for this US Open. I’m really hoping the winning score can stay in single digits under par, but no matter what the pros shoot, this should be a delight to watch.

    • @jz4461
      @jz4461 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @colinmahon8092 You call hole 8 wide? Sure, the back 9 is wider, but those hole lengths are crazy too. And the undulations and U.S. Open fast conditions will mean those fairways play effectively much narrower than appear.
      I see a ton of variety on this layout, which should make for a great tourney!

    A perfect golf course. I can’t wait for this tournament.
    To those commenting that this isn’t that impressive (or it looks like a muni) - respectfully, you could not be more wrong. Rancho Park is only a couple miles down the road and was my home muni for 3 years. I loved playing there but there is absolutely no comparison
    LACC North is (intentionally) a less lush Augusta National. Creativity and precision will be rewarded on every hole.

      This new guy, Perpall, said the rough will be minimal, unlike the typical Open layout. And they will be very wide too, but it doesn't matter much since the landing targets will be narrow and rollout will be critical. But you can't have big rough if you have fast sloping greens. He also said there will lots of birdies and doubles. It's a sick layout, and how it avoided an Open til now is shocking.

    Not a fan of these types of courses for a US Open. The fairways look to be way too generous and there is basically no rough to speak of. With the length these guys have now, I would rather see the US open with tight fairways and 6 inch or higher rough. I have a feeling these pros will tear this course up and we will see double digit under par which is not the US Open I want to see.

    • @AJ-jf4cx
      @AJ-jf4cx ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The rough is plenty ugly at the moment. Wouldn't be surprised if someone has to take a drop out of the fescue around the greenside bunkers.

    • @nickseminerio7480
      @nickseminerio7480 ปีที่แล้ว

      2 62’s and 55 players under par…as i predicted they are tearing it up. The USGA should be embarrassed.

    • @georgesealy4706

      I think it depends on the wind and how the ball rolls in those valleys and elevation changes. We might see some 350-yard drives.

    • @AJ-jf4cx
      @AJ-jf4cx ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually you can't carry the ball onto those greens, it'll just bounce off the back. Plenty of room to bounce it in there.

    Derek, did you just listen to Gil Hanse's comments on the renovation and regurgitate them here? A bunch of this content is almost verbatim what Hanse along with some other commentators have said about the course. Amd how many times can you say "barranca?" Furfher, there's no such thing as a "dry barranca." A barranca, by definition, drains water. A barranca that never has water flowing in it is no longer a barranca, it's just a ditch. And if it really is just a ditch, stop being a golf snob and calling it a "barranca." Most of those areas at LACC aren't barrancas, so just call them "waste areas" or something similar...

    this course looks bad, surprised its hosting a US open, but hey $$ speaks, and there is no denying this is a very tough course, going for the green on par 5's is going to be a bad idea for most players
